Yet another Thanksgiving post

We’ve all been there– someone discovers that you’re a vegan and feels the need to shout it out to the world (or at least the room): “Hey everybody, look at the freak!” Suddenly you’re being bombarded with questions and comments from every direction.

“How do you live on just salad greens?”

“Don’t you miss good, tasty food?”

“What CAN you eat?”

“I could never deprive myself like you do.”

“It’s so sad that you can’t even eat ice cream.”

And on and on and on.

But there’s a simple way to stop this overwhelming assault. All you have to do is let others see for themselves that vegan foods can look, smell, and taste amazingly decadent.

Such was my mission for Thanksgiving. I’d be darned if I was going to let some dead bird upstage MY vegan feast! And guess what… Not ONE negative comment was made about my meal or how sad it was that I didn’t partake in the eating of the turkey! In fact, my vegan dishes were some of the most popular and some of the first to be gone :o).

Homemade seitan, waiting for gravy

Porcini-Mushroom Gravy, to cover the seitan

Harvest Confetti Rice– with raisins, pecans, and dried apricots– everyone loved this

Dijon Cauliflower Dip (I dipped carrots in)

Cranberry-Orange Sauce

Sauteed Mushrooms, in red wine vinegar, olive oil, and garlic

And then, of course, there was the pumpkin pie (see previous post).
Take THAT, critical omnis!
