Isn’t it supposed to be the MAN who forgets the anniversary?

Well, not in this case– I forgot my own Veganiversary! I became a vegan more than eight years ago, after being a vegetarian for a year. I’d kept putting off going vegan, until finally I gave up dairy products for Lent… and never went back :).

As I say in my profile, these have been the happiest years of my life. I wake up every day with a sense of happiness and fulfillment because I know I am helping–in my own little way–to make the world a more humane place for ALL creatures. Plus I feel healthy and full of boundless energy! I can’t say enough good things about this lifestyle!

Better late than never, I decided to celebrate last night:

Wow, 8 years. Good for you! Happy Veggieversary – your celebration dinner looks perfect. Go out and celebrate this weekend!

  2. Lizzy says

    Congratulations!!!
I’ve only been vegan for about a month, but I can already identify myself with what you’ve written. =)

And like you, I used to be not very fond of mustard, but now I can’t live without it anymore.

When I’ll bring you the cupcakes for your birthday I’ll include the breakfast, too! He he!

    Frieeeends, me too! High five!
I watched “Dinner for six for one…. you’re about to see something reeeally special.” “I hope you’ve got some room left!” *cake comes in* “This is the best birthday ever!” Oh man Joey rules =p

  3. Jess - The Domestic Vegan says

Happy Veganversary! 🙂 That’s so exciting. I can’t believe you’re only 21 & have been vegan for so long!! Good for you!

And I totally relate to your feelings regarding veganism & making that small difference for everyone! I’ve never been happier, either, and never could have imagined that a change in diet/lifestyle could change my outlook so much.

  4. Jennifer says

Congrats on your Veganiversary! Thats quite an accomplishment! It’s a nice time to reflect on why you’re vegan and while your continuing to do so makes such an impact.

And the sweet and sour seitan looks wonderful! This sounds like something Brett would love.

  5. Cody says

    The seitan looks yummy.

Happy vegiversary! I just went vegan on my fourth anniversary of being vegetarian (New Year’s Eve.) At the very least, my body feels so much better already.

  6. Jenny says

Happy Veganversary! That is quite an accomplishment. You inspire so many of us! And you are such a joyful vegan as well!

  7. Romina says

Happy Veganiversary!!! 8 years is something to be truly proud of. I can’t wait to celebrate my 8 years, 10 years, 25 years… etc. It’s something we should all be truly proud of. =)

Mmm. That sweet and sour seitan looks delicious! I used to be addicted to sweet and sour pork at chinese restaurants (I’d actually just pour the sauce over rice), and this brings back yummy memories.

  8. Ruby Red Vegan says

Eight years is an amazing accomplishment! Happy Veganiversary! It looks like you picked an excellent reward for yourself, mmm – and a TRILLION times better than what Sweet & Sour Chicken will ever be.
I’m so with you, ever since I became a vegan I have a ton of energy. 🙂

  9. Paulina says

I agree with you, being vegan makes you feel so great. I love this lifestyle too and would never trade it for the world. I can’t wait ’til my one year veganiversery!

    Congrats!

  10. Jamie says

CONGRATULATIONS!!! I was excited to hit my first veganniversary last month. I can’t even imagine getting to my eighth. You’re doing an amazing thing. Thank you.

  11. Ruby Red Vegan says

Awww, yay! I am so glad you enjoyed it! Carob powder is only yummy in certain things, and carob oatmeal pudding is one of them. 🙂 And YOUR oatmeal raisin pudding is so fabulous, it produced a similar euphoria in me after I first had it. And now I make it all the time!

  12. Melissa says

That looks so good! You know what? I’ve been vegan for about 5-6 years and have no idea when I became exactly…just around the time. My DH can’t remember when he became vegan either! Well, Kieran’s been vegan for life…so we know that at least. 😉

  13. mustardseed says

Yeah!! Eveyone says, “What happened to you??” Like, my teachers ask me the same thing, and think I have liver problems.

I feel okay, just no idea why I’m yellow. I can’t help it I always order pumpkin soup PLUS pumpkin salad when I go to my favourite soup place.

  14. Mel says

Congrats on your 8th year anniversary. You are certainly an inspiration. Thanks for such a wonderful blog 🙂 And cheers to 8 more years as a vegan !

  15. Emma says

Congratulations on 8 years, that is an amzing achievement! I have only been vegan for a little over 7months, although I was vegetarian for 10 years before that. I can’t wait till I can say I have been vegan for 8 years!

Your dinner looks soo yummy, it is so pretty and colourful too!

  16. Liz² says

Happy 8-year veganniversary! That seitan looks like the perfect celebratory meal! And 8 years is such a long time, that’s amazing.

  17. Theresa says

Happy Veganniversary! I wouldn’t feel too bad about missing the exact day… I don’t even know the date I went vegan, I just know it was in early feb!

So you’ve been vegan for more than a third of your life. That’s impressive.

  18. Ashasarala says

Happy Veganversary! I don’t even remember what time of year it was when I took the plunge! But that’s a good excuse to eat some yummy sweet and sour seitan. 🙂

  19. Missy the Garden Freak says
