The Ugliest Food You'll Ever Love

I’m in love… with my food processor. We’re together almost every day, having an exhilarating time by choosing random ingredients, hitting the switch, and seeing (and eating!) the results. But our relationship wasn’t always this good…

When I first met Mr. FP, I didn’t like him at all! He was messy, he was scary, he was confusing. (Sound like any other men you know?) However, as the years have passed, I’ve grown to appreciate him a great deal– he’s so helpful in the kitchen!

One of my most recent food processor successes is something I’ve named “Awesome Aspara-dip”. If you aren’t a vegan, this dip will most assuredly NOT convince you to become one. I’ll admit, it’s not very pretty to look at. But don’t judge a dip by its cover, because this stuff tastes terrific– as a dip, as a side dish, even eaten plain, with a spoon! It’s so healthy, too.

I’m not posting a recipe, because I really do just throw a bunch of stuff in the food processor… but if you want to know how to make this dip, just email me and I’ll be happy to share.

Meanwhile, here are three more food processor ideas I’ve come up with:

1. Katie’s Nut Butter and Banana Pudding– Blend 2-3 tablespoons nut butter of choice with one banana. Eat as a pudding, or spread on bread, crackers, waffles, etc.

2. Katie’s Peanut Butter and Banana Oatmeal Fusion.

3. Little Vegan Tofu Quiche Dip– Be on the lookout for a future post with this recipe 😉

Before I sign off, here’s a bit of relationship advice for all of you out there in Blogland: Start paying more attention to your own food processors. They’re really great guys!

    Ugly-beautiful. Yum!

  2. Vegan_Noodle says:

How funny, I was afraid of food processors for awhile too… now I couldn’t live without it! Your aspara-dip sounds yummy. And I love bright green food, so I think it’s pretty 🙂

  3. asmexyhousewife says:

I think one of the hardest things to do as a food blogger is to make the food look as tasty as it is, especially with things like dips. It’s like, “Look! A mound of stuff! But trust me, it tastes good!”. Heh.

I have a “Magic Bullet” (sounds naughty, eh?) that is great for blending up smoothies. I’d like to get a larger food processor to help take care of less “wet” things that my MB doesn’t deal with well…

  4. Cody says:

Eh. If guacamole doesn’t scare me, I can’t imagine why AsparaDip would be any different. (The only green food that worries me a little is pea soup. It’s just… not right.)

    Sounds pretty good to me.

  5. Ashasarala says:

I LOVE my food processor. I just got it for my birthday in November and I’ve been dating it ever since. 😉 I’ll never go back to the single life now!

I love green foods, so that wouldn’t turn me off. And it most certainly wouldn’t turn off a youngin’. I know my nephew would be all about the green mush!

  6. Romina says:

Ugly? I think not! It looks yum-yum delicious. =)

  7. Liz² says:

ugly, not at all! beautiful jewel-green, it sounds really nice! I’m very curious about your quiche dip… and I am SO that way with my immersion blender. we do everything together. 😀

  8. Monika K says:

I agree, Mr. FP can be daunting at first but the more you work with one another, the better the relationship. (-: I love using the Vita Mix, too – talk about raw chopping power!

  9. Bonnie says:

You and Mr. FP do seem to come up with some good ideas!
That dip looks totally awesome and delicious to me. Does that mean I’m really, really vegan?

  10. Ricki says:

I have to admit that my food processor is my best friend (don’t tell my Honey!) Your dip sounds delicious to me–I’d love the recipe!

  11. Jennifer says:

Sometimes the ickiest looking things taste the best. Guacamole -case in point! And it’s aspara-dip, what is not to love about that. I’d eat even if it does look ick! 🙂

  12. Veg*Triathlete says:

Cute post! And I think the dip looks pretty darn tasty 🙂

  13. Bianca says:

I agree! I love my food processor. It’s one my grandma gave me, and for months, I couldn’t even figure out how to turn it on (I later learned the main compartment had to lock in place before the “on” switch would work).

But once I got the hang of it, it’s become my fave utensil! It’s soooo much better than my crappy blender (which refuses to even chop ice…). I use it for hummus, my favorite spinach dip, and even finely chopping veggies.

Another fave toy — my “Pampered Chef” food chopper….it minces garlic so fine!

My fp and I have been in love for awhile, although my hand blender is getting more attention these days…

    Great post! 😉

  15. Theresa says:

Everytime I read about vegans and their food processors, I get all self-loathing and wish that I had a relationship like that. I try to fill the void with my stick blender and my mini-chopper, but they really just don’t have the same… je ne sais quoi!

  16. Jess - The Domestic Vegan says:

Haha. How cute! I am in love with my Mr. FP, as well. And your dip sounds DELICIOUS!

  17. kindkitchen says:

If anyone, I knew you would agree with that statement hehe ;)That’s cool that they had Freezees in Texas, but a bummer that they don’t have it anymore! Ooo, and I forgot to say that dip looks yummy!!

  18. pleasantly plump vegan says:

i like my food processor but i LOVE my immersion blender. i use that for just about everything i use a food processor for.

  19. aTxVegn says:

I think it’s beautiful! And it sounds totally yummy. It’s a good thing to be friends with your Mr. FP.

  20. Amy says:

I feel the food processor love! Mine was expensive but they’re actually really well-made. I think my mom has had hers almost as long as she’s had me…
