I’m so proud of you, Charlie!

Judging by the comments I received on yesterday’s post, I guess I should abandon my pot pie stew recipe and go back to making regular pot pie. It seems I have a plethora of blogging friends who would be delighted to take the crust off my hands. But anyway…

Remember this little guy?

This is my cousin, Charlie. Charlie is only nine, but he’s wise beyond his years. I am so proud of him, because Charlie is now a vegetarian! And this isn’t just a week-long phase either. (I was a vegetarian when I was eight, but I quit after only two days!) Nope, apparently Charlie hasn’t touched a piece of meat since his family visited me back in March!

You ROCK, Charlie!

Yayyy Charlie! That’s awesome. I did not have that kind of willpower until high school, and even then I went back and forth.

You should teach him how to cook amazing vegetarian food 🙂

Oh my goodness! What a great kid! I have to admit – I never gave vegetarianism a single thought when I was a kid …. wow Katie, I bet he look up to you so much .. you’re such a role model!

That is so awesome of your cousin! And it shows he’s not just having one of those “phases” kids go through since it has been months now! That is awesome!

Wow, congratulations to Charlie!! What a smart and independent kid, and what a stellar example you must have set. You’ll have him whipping up his own seitan in no time!

That is so cool! My younger brother went veg after I spent a few weeks one summer at my parents’ house. It made me feel so proud of him & was wonderful to share that change with him, too!

aww that’s so awesome! it’s so great that younger people are learning about “vegetarianism” and such..i too started at a young age, i think it’s best that way! 🙂

    that’s great!

I became a vegetarian when I was kid after spending time with my veggie aunt. Then, many years later after I became vegan, my aunt switched to being a vegan also! Isn’t that fun?

Wow Katie you must have had a pretty profound influence on little Charlie. Good for him and you should be very proud of yourself.

That’s so great that Charlie (and you) were aware of vegetarianism and the horrors of the meat industry at such a young age!

We didn’t even think about vegetarianism until the last few years, especially after taking a great eye-opening Food & Society class at the University of New Hampshire.

    Kudos to Charlie!

Wow that is absolutely amazing! Major kudos to Charlie!

I have a 9 year old cousin and I only wish he’d be vegetarian. He was over at my house this past Friday and you know what his favorite pastime is? Putting meat in my face. Nasty! But he’s only 9, I’m hoping he changes his mind someday 🙂

That’s so awesome! It’s definitely best for people to start very young. That’s when you have a lot of willpower and determination. I was 14 when I went veg and I know it was super-easy then because I was so strong in my convictions.

And you should be proud too! You planted the seeds and made veggie-ism look really cool. Congrats to Charlie and Katie!

That means you connect well with kids. You should be a teacher!

I meant to tell you several posts ago that you are a terrific blogger reaching a lot of people, so an apologize from you really wasn’t necessary.

Give Charlie a hug for me. He’s so awesome and you are too for setting a good example for him. xoxo

That’s awesome! Sounds like you had a great influence on him, and how wonderful he’s made such a good decision so young!
Lol, international insurance? I’m going to have to think about that one–I definitely want to travel, but I don’t know…that sounds pretty boring to me too.

  16. Ashasarala says

That is terrific. It always makes me happy when the youngins see the light. My little 3-year-old nephew already enjoys his fruit and veggies waaaaaay more than a piece of meat. I just hope he doesn’t change his mind.

This reminds me of a story my co-worker told me. Her 7-year-old nephew used to think that bacon just fell off of pigs and it was perfectly fine. That’s what his parents told him anyway. But when he learned that pigs were actually killed and made into bacon, he refused to eat it anymore. Or any meat, for the matter. How awesome is that? 🙂

    Kristin—
Ok, either we BOTH spend too much time at Whole Foods, or we somehow have our brains wired to go there at the same time. How else can one explain that we’ve been there at the same time TWICE now?! (P.S. I hope you didn’t get caught in the downpour!)

    Caitlin—
I’m glad I am not the only one who thinks my dad’s job sounds super-boring! A better idea—become an international spy!

    Kimberly, Anonymous, and everyone else—
    Thanks :o).
I’m really excited about Charlie, because he’s influenced his entire family to eat healthier. Hard to believe a nine-year-old can be such a good influence!

  18. Lizzy says

    That’s WONDERFUL fantastic news =D
You can be proud to have such an inspiring impact!!!
More kids should hang out with you… sooner or later they’d all go veg I’m sure!
