While We’re on the Subject of Ice Cream…

June 16, 2008
by Chocolate-Covered Katie

Has anyone ever encountered someone who said, “I could never be a vegan; the idea of eating soy ice cream is gross.”?

Well, the above excuse is no longer valid. Purely Decadent So Delicious has just introduced a line of coconut milk-based ice creams in flavors such as cookie dough, chocolate, and mint chip. There’s not a trace of soy to be found in these new creations.

And speaking of So Delicious, I spotted some exciting new soy ice cream flavors at Whole Foods that are not even listed on their website yet! Some of the flavors I remember, off the top of my head: Snickerdoodle, Key Lime Pie, Belgian Chocolate, and Blueberry Cheesecake.

Happy Fathers’ Day to all the dads out there! I’ll post a Fathers’ Day entry soon.

Wow you look stunning Katie! Your dress is so colorful!

I actually don’t have any prom photos (sadly), they featured me and an ex I hated, so they got tossed. :P We spent the whole time arguing so it was a wash anyway.

I went to PF Chang’s for the first time ever with my famfam tonight and I thought of you! :)

That is a beautiful photo! I swear you could win a million dollars for your smile. I shall steal it (the smile, not the money)! Too many strangers lately have told me to smile or else I look mean. What?!

Snickerdoodle ice cream? My favorite cookie with ice cream? Vegan?! Hooray for that! Thanks for getting the word out!

And, yes CCV, I did happen to make some extra zucchini muffins just for you! The recipe oddly enough made fourteen muffins…Zucchini might end up becoming one of my favorite veggies soon enough!

I’m afraid you’re a bit behind the times on the soy-free coconut-based ice cream. I’ve been eating Coconut Bliss (http://www.coconutbliss.com/) since I became a vegan in September. So good…

Cuteness! You are just too adorable Katie! I’d have to break out the scanner to post my prom photos…taken before the digital revolution. That makes me feel old. It was the 90s, so I wore combat boots to prom. Ha!

I read about the coconut milk soy cream on Syn’s blog…and I sooooo want to try it. I’ll have to seek it out at the Wild Oats when I’m there next time. I hope they have it.

You look stunning in the photo and what a great dress. I certainly would have voted you Prom Queen.

Our Vegan ice cream is very limited and doesn’t taste all that good so have been experimenting with homemade ice cream, funnily enough also with a coconut milk base, as I am still not all that crazy about soy milk unless it has a very strong flavor added.

Wow, what a beautiful dress (and you look beautiful too)! I love sparkles. :) I am definitely going to try making ice cream in the Vitamix…peanut butter and banana sounds really good. Lol, my parents are trendsetters… I was in Whole Foods the other day when I was visiting my grandparents and I saw the key lime, blueberry cheesecake, and snickerdoodle flavors…they looked soo good but we were about to drive home (a 2.5 hour trip) and I knew they wouldn’t make it! Now I wish I’d bought a container and eaten it all in the car! lol.

Haha you SHOULD have eaten the ice cream in the car ;o). Sounds like a great way to turn a boring old car ride into a fun adventure (I hate car rides).

Wow, and I’m amazed that Vitamixes have been around so long! Thanks for the trivia (learning useless trivia is always fun… if only for the fact that it may come in handy one day while doing a crossword puzzle or playing Trivial Pursuit).

oh you are so beautiful! i LOVE your dress! I have slowly been incorporating more vegetarian/vegan meals (I usually eat normal breads and therefore can’t say vegan!) into my diet and I have to thank YOU for that!!! You have inspired me to make lots of new and interesting meals and both my fiance and I have been enjoying the benefits.. I feel like just by having 2 veg meals a day (and one meal that is not completely veg) I have clearer skin, more energy, feel happier, and lots of other strange positive effects. so.. thanks!

Have you tried Nada Moo? It’s made from coconut and sweetened with agave nectar and quite tasty, but a little more expensive than other non-dairy ice creams. Those other So Delicious flavors sound wonderful. I love your dress, and you look beautiful! I didn’t go to my prom, so I can’t post any photos.

What makes the vitamix so different from a blender? They are quite expensive, so I don’t just want to purchase one unless it does something different/better. Thanks for the smoothie ideas!

The biggest difference between my old blender and the Vitamix is that the Vitamix yields a MUCH smoother result. You don’t have to add any liquid at all to the Vitamix, so it’s much better for making thick smoothies or ice creams. And it makes hot soup in like 30 seconds and easily chops up ice… but of course if you don’t use a blender very often, then spending all the extra money probably isn’t worth it.
