I am Hungry, Hear me ROAR!

Thought I’d share a picture of yesterday’s post-run breakfast (i.e. “second breakfast”) because it features a new favorite of mine– pine nuts.

I used to eat these little gems all the time in cookies (called “Pignoli Cookies”), but never thought to pop ’em plain. Gosh, they’re good. In fact, I think I’ll end this post and go have some more right now!

Mixed veggies stir-fried with garlic and ginger (I made this the night before)/ Three slices toast/ Lots of pine nuts

Not pictured: I also had a mini-protein shake, consisting of a cup of almond milk and 1tablespoon of Nutiva chocolate hemp protein powder. Told you I was hungry!

    happy saturday!

Your meals always look SO satifying!! How did you like the protein powder shake? I’ve been thinking about picking up a few packets to try…did you get it at Whole Foods? Have a great day, girl!!

  3. Amy says

With Caroline on broccoli hut and Allison trying chopsticks I was wondering if you could do a chopstick tutorial post since your the pro 🙂 They look so fun to use, but I have (probably like most people) no idea how to use them without getting most of the food on my lap! Have a good weekend 🙂

p.s. sorry to sound naive, but besides the wooden disposable ones you get at a Chinese restaurant where do you buy chopsticks?

I’m glad you posted about the smoothie protein powder, because I’m thinking of trying it. I’ve tried the regular plain hemp protein powder and it is not good at all. But I think the chocolate one sounds better without the nasty aftertaste.
Looks like a very yummy filling meal!

Ooooh I have a story about pine nuts. Those little nuggets of wonder are usually hella expensive ($7 for 125 g) but for some reason the local grocery recently listed them for $4.40 a KILO (should have been $4.40/100g I think). So I ended up buying $40 worth of pine nuts for $4.

Right now I use soy protein powder, but that hemp stuff is intriguing. Did you order it online? Both breakfasts sound fab!

I love pine nuts! I really discovered them when living in the desert southwest. I love love love them. You can lightly toast them in a hot, dry pan and they make a great addition to pastas & salads – and non-toasted, too! Not to mentioned blended up to make creamy sauces!

I love your appetite 🙂 My kinda girl 🙂 Mmmm to your veggie stirfry, you wanna mail me some leftovers? But don’t send by UPS because we know what happened to that giant banana when he encountered the thieving UPS man……..

Oh goodness, that looks delicious! It certainly feels nice to sit down to a big yummy meal after a hard workout. Pine nuts, huh? I am going to have to try some… I’ve probably had them in a restaurant before, but I’ve never cooked with them before and have definitely never popped them plain. I think they’re calling to me!

Oh and congrats on your blog award. Yay yay yay! You deserve it, because you and your blog are so awesome and fun.

oh katie dearest, if i even had one peanut butter parfait to my name, you know i’d share it with you. but me no have one! 🙁 and those little meanies — they didn’t even put the recipe for it in the native foods cookbook! but i think some vegan peanut butter cheesecake would make up for this…

LOL … that title sounds familiar, did you use it before?! 0_o Hrmm, my brain …

I love pine nuts, they taste so amazing!! Lol, I told my dad I’m on the look out for vegan protein shakes … he gave me this funny look and say “you trying to bulk up?” hehehehe … hrmmm, me with mass amount of muscles?!! Maybe not ….

  13. Lily Girl says

Honestly, I don’t know how you eat that much especially that often – I am always amazed at the size of your meals! Do you like the chocolate hemp powder? I use the original flavor, but I use it in my green smoothies, so the ‘green’ taste isn’t out of place.
Of course you may add me to your blog roll, I’m honored! I added you to mine, which I realize now was poor blogging etiquette… lesson learned!
Congratulations on your blog awards – you most certainly deserve them!

Congratulations on being featured on the cupcake blog! You so deserve it.

    Hey Amy,
LOL thanks for calling me the chopstick pro :o). I don’t think I can “tell” someone how to use chopsticks without being able to “show” them… Too bad I don’t know how to make a movie tutorial and post that! So I googled it and found a site where someone who does know how to make and post a movie did so:
    http://video.about.com/chinesefood/How-to-Use-Chopsticks.htm

    Hopefully that’s helpful!

I’m trying to remember where I’ve gotten my non-disposable chopsticks over the years. Some of my pairs are from Japan, but I have found other pairs in places like “World Market” and Asian grocery stores.

  18. Pink Theory says

yummy post workout meal! I’ll have to look into the hemp protein powder, sounds interesting. And of course you can add me to your blog roll…I would be honored!! 🙂

  19. Vegan_Noodle says

Toasted pine nuts are a favorite of mine to snack on as well. And I seem to put them on pretty much every salad I eat.

This post makes me want to start running again so I can have second breakfast. 🙂

  20. Jenn says

I LOVE pine nuts – but I’ve never had them plain either! They’ve always been mixed with some other part of the meal. I think I’ve got to try it too…
