This is the Oldest I’ve ever been!

I think eight is the best age– you’re old enough to have an awareness of the world and yourself, but you have no idea about the meaning of responsibility. If you say, “I want to be an astronaut when I grow up,” you’d hear this response: “Gee, that’s nice.”  But at my age? The response changes to this:  “So what classes are you taking to get there? And what job are you going to get when you graduate? How are you going to support yourself?”

Ah, to be eight…

On Friday, my parents surprised me with tickets to see The Capitol Steps. The Capitol Steps is a political satire group, and they are hilarious!  I don’t think I ever stopped laughing, throughout the entire show. If you have an interest in politics, I’d definitely recommend getting tickets to see a show.

By now, you’re probably all sick of seeing pictures of my infamous post-run breakfasts. But I wanted to post a picture of yesterday’s in order to show off a new birthday present– plates! Yeah, I am a nerd… I get so excited about fun dishware.

Mad-Scrambled Tofu, an apple, 2 slices toast, and pistachios.

Happy birthday! You’re smart enough to be an astronaut if you really wanted, but then again…the idea of space accidents and explosions and other possibilities is pretty scary. And we want our Chocolate Covered Vegan to be around for many more birthdays!

  4. Animal-Friendly says

Glad to hear your birthday was so special! I’m right there with you about being eight years old again- it’s so sad that then when you are that age you just can’t wait to grow up…

That comedy group sounds like my kind of show. And your new dishes are so fun :o) Glad to hear you had a fun weekend – birthdays should always be celebrated over the course of several days… or a week!

Yay! I’m so glad you had a FAB b-day weekend! Though I’m with you on wishing I could be eight years old again…

    Two things:

    1) I’m seeing Maroon 5 on Wednesday…wahoo!

Happy B-day Katie!!! And while I agree that 8 was nice, I prefer 21. That was a good age…back in the days of partying with reckless abandon. Waking up with the world’s worst hangover in some stranger’s living room. Ah, those were the good old days.

Your plates, by the way, are super duper cute!

  17. ChocolateCoveredVegan says

    Caitlin–
With the two concerts and the carnival, I was too busy to make/eat birthday cake or a gourmet birthday meal, so my family agreed we’ll do that next weekend… hey, no complaints here; it means I get to celebrate my birthday all over again next weekend! I’m thinking there will be chocolate involved!

  18. russ says

I love those plates!! So fancy! I was in London last weekend, and saw some real nice hand painted bowls in the Japan centre, which I almost couldn’t resist, but I’d already got a bag full of food, and couldn’t fit em in!
    Yours look nicer though.

  19. Jade C says

Ohh Katie your dinners look so delicious!! I love these kinds of meals – fancy/dressed-up veggies alongside grains or another ((although I also love potatoes, ohh, and SWEET POTATOES, so it’s a tough call there 😉 😉 )) – but still, wow!! I have started to take pictures of my meals – the ones I’m proud of, anyways!!
I realise this comment is a bit late for the post ..over 3 years too late, LOL 😀 😀 , but heyy, I’m pretty new to your site, so I can be a noob 🙂 🙂 .
