You’re Going Down!

I think it may be an unwritten rule that every runner, at some point, will experience the dreaded wipe-out. Unfortunately for me, today was my day. I was minding my own business, just running along, when suddenly a puddle of EVIL mud jumped into my path and took me down. At least my fall took place when I was in the 60th, or last, minute of my run, and therefore I was close to home. And thankfully, no broken bones! In fact, the only lasting memory of the fall is a huge, ugly scrape that has taken over my right leg. (I’ll refrain from posting pictures of said huge, ugly scrape.)

Upon arriving home, I was in need of some serious comfort food for my post-run breakfast. Enter Bulgur Pudding. I chose simple add-ins today: just non-dairy milk and a little salt. I also had a nice, juicy apple and a lot of peanut butter (the second best pb combination– after pb-banana, of course).

I wasn’t the only one to battle the mud today…

On my behalf, Miss Molly tried to fight that evil mud. But the poor girl lost and was thus subjected to the b-a-t-h. (We have to spell it out; otherwise Molly will run away and hide under the bed, coward that she is.)

Happy Sunday, everyone. Tomorrow I will take revenge on the mud!!!

Well, lucky you to have Miss Molly to defend you against the evil mud! She’s too cute!!

Sorry about your huge, ugly scrape. Hey, at least you had some yummy food to make it all better! 😛

  2. Joanna says

peanut butter makes everything feel better, really. haha hope your leg is okay and that nobody saw u fall. i hate when i wipeout in front of people cuz the first thing i hear out of their mouths is laughter. haha

  3. Chris says

Your first ‘battle scar’ – how fun! Well, maybe not fun.. but still, be proud of it and show off just how much of a badass runner girl you are.

In a little moment of serious, be careful with the scrape and running. If you go too hard you can open it up again and then it’ll be the wound-that-never-ends.

Enjoy the peanut-buttery goodness while you heal up!

Uhh I hate wiping out, I once was walking to school and slipped on ice and fell right on my butt. I was expecting lots of laughter…but miraculously no one was around.

Bulgar Pudding =) I love it. I used to eat PB and apples like everday, such a great combination.

  5. sweetpotato says

Oh no! I had my huge wipeout on the treadmill when I was 12 and fooling around on it. It was awful!! Hopefully that won’t happen again!

    Yum, bulgur pudding!

  6. Animal-Friendly says

Aw….sorry to hear about your wipe-out! At least you’re not seriously injured, although big ugly scrapes can be pretty bad. And a nice, juicy apple with some peanut butter sounds like an awesome, comforting snack post-run.

I have a lovely shred scar on my right knee from a whipe-out in the woods over a year ago. It would have been worse, but I was able to catch myself with my water bottle- it hurt like hell, but I felt so cool continuing my 12-mile run with blood down my leg – every time I crossed other runners they were in awe of my Iron-Womanness (or just wondered why I was so clumsy).
    I hope you don’t have a scar!

  8. Ricki says

Aw, sorry to hear about your downfall! Miss Molly doesn’t look too upset, though 🙂 . Hope the scrape heals up quickly.

  9. Vegyogini says

Oh no! I hope your leg heals soon. 🙂 PB and apple is one of my favorite combos, too, but I usually eat it with Granny Smiths.

  10. Meg says

I am sorry about the mud incidents that occurred. Hopefully, you will both recover well!

We have to spell “haircut” around our house when the groomers are on their way!

  11. Vaala says

Hahaha, I love that story! I’ve had a lot of wipe outs in my time (the consequences of trail running and orienteering where there is not one event I have come out completely unscathed).

Bulgaur pudding sounds delicious…the perfect comfort food. So hopefully it hit the spot.

  12. Ruby Red Vegan says

Your poor leg! Poo on that mud. But don’t worry, I won’t be calling you Mud Covered Vegan from now on. That would be mean.

My dad still talks about a wipe out I had on the ice in front of a gas station one time. My bootay hurt sooo bad after that!

I hope your scrapey heals up soon.

  13. tofufreak says

Stinks that you fell in the mud and got a bad scrape! hope it heals quickly!

hooray for apples and pb 😀

and three cheers for miss molly who was so brave 😀

  14. Veg-a-Nut says

I am so sorry for you mud attack. Molly is hysterical. We have to say round things instead of cookies our our kids think it is time for they treat.

I am glad you are ok and that your comfort food helps you heal quickly!

  15. trustmyintuition says

I’m sorry about the mud 🙁 I will look out for it. Thanks for the heads up! I really enjoy reading your blog and hope tomorrow is scrape/wipeout free!

  16. Lily Girl says

I’m sorry you fell, it’s an unfortunate hazard of the sport. Hope you’re feeling better! Molly is hilarious, such a brave girl 🙂
Your pumpkin mousse looks delicious too, I’m also not so big on pie crust and that’s a yummy solution.

  17. VeganView says

Yummmoo, I do have to say peanut butter and apples is my personal fave over bananas…but i can put nut/seed butters on pretty much anything!
As a “skinny” vegan myself, those keep me stable in my weight…well i guess that cake I keep talking about helps too 😉

  18. just me says

oh, i’ve had the wipe out all right…more than a few times and with quite a few scars! but i’m glad you’re ok!!!

  19. Vegetation says

Oh NO! Poor you! And poor Molly! I hope you both recover soon (you from your scrape and Molly from her b~a~t~h) 🙂

  20. herbivore says

Good thing it was the end of your run. Its horrible when runs are ruined by falls. Once, I was always a mile in, and I tripped on the side walk (it was raised) and slid down the hill. Ouch! I had a big gushing scrape on my knee. Plus I had to walk a mile up the hill to get home. Also, I had the same thing as you for breakfast, except with a banana instead of apple. Mmmm.

  21. Kati says

Oh no! Hope your leg feels better.

That’s so cute that Molly knows it’s bath time and hides under the bed. Strangely enough, one of my cats loves the bath and jumps in even when there’s no water in the tub!

  22. jelymo says

our dog understands O-U-T. glad you weren’t seriously hurt. i try to stay away from sports that cause injuries.

  23. eatingbender says

Ouch!! I have yet to fall while running, but that’s only because I don’t go running very often. I’m prone to tripping, so it’s only a matter of time! Sorry about your scrape, that’s no fun :o( But you definitely made everything better with bulgur and PB + apple – definitely the second best combo!

  24. Lisa says

Aw, wipeouts stink. But, like you said, a good excuse for comfort food (as if some of us need an excuse).

Be nice to your leg and give it a chance to heal.

  25. brooke says

I am so sorry about the fall! Neosporin works perfectly for scarpes. I can relate, I always have bruises on my legs. I am continuely tripping or falling over on something.

And of course Molly looks adorable! Haha, we always spell out words when Riley is around (c-a-r, p-u-f-f-i-n-s, h-a-i-r-c-u-t, etc) Our terriers are very intuitive!

P.S Thanks for the mousse recipe, I loved it with graham crackers!

  26. Melissa says

    Awww…what a cutey Molly is!
Sorry about your fall. Mmmm..apples and peanut butter.
The pudding looks great. I’ll have to try my hand at making some.
