Let's Play Dress-Up!

by Chocolate-Covered Katie on November 3, 2008

I loved playing “dress-up” as a little girl. But now that I am twenty-two and in college…

…I still love playing dress-up! What can I say? I’m a five-year-old at heart. Sadly, there aren’t nearly as many occasions for grown-ups to dress up as there are for kids. So I have to take full advantage of every opportunity I do get. Halloween is one such opportunity. The creative side of me always gets super-super-excited sometime around August or September, when I let my imagination go wild trying to answer the question “What imaginative costume can I create this year?”

Some costumes of years past:

1. Miss Mars, the Martian Beauty Queen
2. Monster Chef (I used a kitchen pot as my trick-or-treating bag)
3. One-eyed-one-horned-flying-purple-people-eater
4. Sandwich (a.k.a. Sand Witch– complete with a black sand bucket for trick-or-treating candy)

5. Dust Bunny

This year, I was a “Devil in a Blue Dress” (like the song).

In my previous post, some of you asked to see scrapbook pages. Therefore, I’ll try to incorporate more scrapbook pages into my future posts. Here are two past Halloween pages:

Hope everyone had a Happy Halloween!
(Fifteen-year-old me, contentedly carving a pumpkin. What, high-schoolers can’t enjoy kiddie activities?)

Haha, fun costumes!

So … are you implying that as an adult I shouldn’t regularly dress up in costumes for the office? Hmm, that would explain some things about my most recent performance evaluation.

i love fall holidays. for me being a jew it’s non stop fun in the fall: rosh hashana, yom kippur, sukkot, simchat torah, then ending with halloween. and all of them involve food! i was sarah palin this year. i didn’t really look like her 100%, but i stayed in character most of the night and got to make people laugh by saying stupid stuff.

Ummm if 15 year olds supposedly can’t carve pumpkins, then an 18 year old like me shouldn’t be doing it either…
but I did!

Well I’m from toronto, so the heat change makes me smile lol.Very creative on the devil costume hehe. I looked at your earlier blog post and WOW! #1 that dish looked awesome #2 Heck yeah a meet up would be awesome. Maybe even a monthly one or something. Umhh urban market from the looks of it is just a whole foods type shop setup in downtown…May be cool to go walk around but I prefer to buy most of my stuff at Natural Grocers.

Umhh not to sound wierd but if you ever want a vegan friend from dallas :) I’m all ears.

How could I pick number 14? Everything you post is lovely, even the vote posts! :)

You are wicked beautiful… BOO-tiful! Your smile is so contagious!

The picture of you leaning your head against that pumpkin should win an award for most adorable picture of anything ever!

Romina—
Thanks! And it’s greeeeeeaat to hear from you :o ).

Michael—
Not weird at all! I definitely would love another vegan friend, especially one in “real” life. We’ll have to put our heads together and plan a meet-up. Patrick, Tara, are y’all reading this? Alaina, you’re invited too!

Used to have a creative streak for costumes. Here a few family faves:

Barbie was easy if I found a formal gown at Goodwill or a rummage sale. Just wear WAY too much eyeshadow, a ponytail, and I heart Ken button.

Schizophrenic was my sister’s creation. She bought a package of “Hello! My Name Is” sticker badges and wore about 12-15 different names all over her outfit.

And our most hilarious was the “Coat of Arms” (Code of Arms). We cut the sleeves off of a bunch of old shirts, stuffed them, and sewed them to an overcoat. Not the most comfy costume, but it got a lot of laughs!

Oh wow, I LOVE your ideas, especially your sister’s Schizophrenia one. I still need to think about what I’m going to be this year!
