“Accident is the name of the greatest of all inventors.”

November 24, 2008
by Chocolate-Covered Katie

So said that ever-sagacious Mark Twain.

What do chocolate-chip cookies, Coca Cola, Penicillin, and Velcro have in common?
Turns out that all of these inventions were discovered by accident.

And now I can add one more invention to the list: Crepe Cakes. Definition: something between a pancake and a crepe.

One day, as I was making pancakes, my little chocolate-covered fingers slipped, causing me to add extra water to the whole-wheat-pastry flour batter. But it has oft been said that accidents are the #1 source of inventions. And I am definitely enjoying this particular little accident.

Crepe-Cakes, Apple Pie Pudding, and lotsa cinnamon. Perfect breakfast.

Crepe-Cakes and… roasted asparagus? Hey, why not?

Smile! How could you not, with such scrumptious victuals? (Crepe-cakes and apple pie pudding again)

So good they’re scary!

Crepe-Cakes, roasted butternut squash (best stuff ever!), and Whole Foods unsweetened ricemilk (I was turned off of ricemilk years ago, after trying a sickly-sweet version. But this stuff is so refreshing, with just a slight hint of sweetness. You’ll be seeing more of it in future posts for sure!)

Good food. Good news. ‘Nuff said.
(That’s pear puree in the little dish.)

Chocolate-Covered Words of the Day:

1. EDIT: the Crepe Cake recipe is now up; it can be found here: Click me :)

2. My mom informed me that my Three-Ingredient “Alfredo” Sauce, because it lacks cheese, is not Alfredo but Bechamel. Eh, but the sauce is vegan, so any “cheese” I’d put in wouldn’t be real cheese anyway! I’ll continue calling it Alfredo ;o). Sorry to my Italian heritage!

    1. Peanut Butter Cap’n Crunch
    2. Sausage (gasp) and cheese omlette with hash browns from Bob Evans…with a side of biscuits with honey on them.

I am not the biggest breakfast fan. I know, lame. I also end up eating my oatmeal/granola as an afternoon snack! But if I do eat breakfast it’s typically super light, like fruit or a small bowl of cereal…

Breakfast is my favorite meal of the day! I can’t wait to eat breakfast every morning. I usually eat oatmeal made with soy or rice milk. I always add cinnamon, some kind of fruit (fresh or dried), and top it off with a spoonful of nut butter. I usually eat a banana on the side. Mmm.
