Bring on the Christmas Posts!

Christmas Week!

Like most families I know, our family used to open Christmas presents super-early (translation: as soon as my little sister and I were successful in pulling our groggy parents from bed). But in the past few years, we’ve waited until after lunch to open gifts. My parents and sister say they like this better because it gives them time to relax in the morning and “prettify” before church… but I know the real reason– it means they get to sleep longer!

Yesterday, for example, the house was still silent when I returned from running at 8:45. Honestly, who sleeps until 8:45 on Christmas?! As I brewed myself some Sugar Cookie tea and poured a big bowl of cereal (complete with lots of sweet strawberries and banana slices, most of which are hiding out on the bottom), people finally started ambling into the kitchen.

Cutest dishes ever, or what?

A few hours and a church service later, it was time for Christmas lunch.

Christmas Quiche Soup
(a variation of my
Quiche Dip)

  • 1 red pepper, chopped (doesn’t need to be chopped too finely, as it’s just going to go in the blender anyway)
  • About 200 grams Mori-Nu firm tofu (or another aseptic tofu)
  • 1 tablespoon nutritional yeast (or more, if you’re a big fan of the stuff)
  • 1/4 tsp Turmeric
  • 1/4 tsp onion powder
  • 1 tablespoon freeze-dried chives
  • 1/2 tsp dried Rosemary
  • 1/2 tsp salt, or more or less, depending on your taste buds
  • pepper, to taste
  • Water or non-dairy milk to thin it down, if you wish (I add 2 tablespoons of water to help it blend better.)

Procedure: Blend everything with a hand blender, food processor, or regular blender. Or, cram it all into the Magic Bullet, which is my method-of-choice. (I only put in 1/2 the red pepper to begin with, because otherwise it won’t all fit in the MB.)

Above, with steamed brussels sprouts.

Aww, I’m glad you had a good Christmas but come on??? 8:45?? That’s insane haha. I’ve always woken up the family before 7am. Always.

Great recipe, sounds yummy with the brussels on top!

Oh my gosh! About those Steamfresh packets. I love them too but now I know not to microwave them in the package because one time I did and when I opened it, it had a large crinkled piece of plastic bag in it! =/ Now I open them and check everytime.

Good for you for getting a run in on Christmas morning! Your lunch looks yummy except for the brussels. 🙂 I realize that I forgot to mention your post in MY post today so I’ll go back and edit. I’m very forgetful. 😉

Your Christmas morning sounds so leisurely and fun – it’s impressive that you got up for a run :o) Those bowls are definitely the cutest!

I am going to post a link to your comment drive post next time – I’m keeping your blog up on my screen so that I remember!

I love the penguin mug! You always have such cute dishes.

I used to wake up my parents super early too. They finally had to make up a rule that me and my little brother could open our stockings as soon as we woke up, but had to let our parents sleep in. They were usually up but 9:00 so we didn’t have to wait that long.

Now I’m the one wishing I could sleep in, lol. I’m sure there will be many years before the baby actually lets me sleep in though!

    Merry Christmas!

Christmas wouldn’t be Christmas without brussel sprouts! My sisters always drag me out of bed at an absurdly early hour, but now we are all older, we at least have the restraint to not open everything before dad finally rolls out of bed!

What a great idea for Christmas day! And that soup idea is another CCV original–looks wonderfully creamy and good. And what adorable snowman bowls!

I’ll post a comment about your drive next time. . . once I get back to blogging! 🙂

8:45 sounds pretty early to me… You probably dont' want to know when we got up.

I love the bowl and the breakfast. yummy!

I always forget about quiche at TG or xmas. I dont' know why. It is one of the traditional things my mom makes. I probalby forgot because Andy & I stay in WA during the holidays because we like to avoid too much cold (NE or VT). Jokes on us this year because we got more than both places combined in WA.
