A Little Fish in a Big Ocean of Choices

by Chocolate-Covered Katie on January 29, 2009

Just keep swimming, just keep swimming…

Have you ever tried to count the number of decisions you make in a given day? It’s probably impossible to do, because we’re faced with so many choices in our lives–big choices (like what college to attend or whom to marry), as well as smaller choices (like what to eat or how to dress).
I don’t know about the rest of you, but sometimes I’d like to take a break from making decisions, as it can be stressful! If there exists such a job as a personal decision-maker, then please add my name to the list of hopeful recipients. (While you’re at it, you can also sign me up for a personal shopper, personal chef, and a butler. Thank you very much.)
Who is feeling magnanimous today and would thus like to make all decisions for me from here on out? Anyone care to volunteer?
Bueller… Bueller… Bueller…
No, no takers?
Too bad, because that means all of you are now my personal decision-makers (as far as this post goes, anyway). And for your first task, you get to decide the topic of my next post.
Honestly, I feel like this blog is all Me, Me, Me! But I want to know more about all of you. Therefore, I’m going to start trying to ask more questions and look for more feedback from all my lovely fellow fishies– both bloggers and readers.
You know the routine; leave a comment and let me know what you want to see!
1. Love Muffin recipe
2. How to make vegan yogurt (without all that complicated “yogurt starter” rubbish)
3. Product Reviews (If you pick this one, is there anything specific you want to hear about? Recent sampled products include: a new nut butter, grain, sauce-thickener, drink, meat substitute, bread, and chocolate bar.)
4. A new kitchen gadget
5. A post about Africards
6. Things I’ve cooked/eaten recently
7. Screw all the above; just show me pictures of Henry!

Chocolate-Covered Words of the Day
1. The Chocolate-Covered Blogger of the Day is Little Miss Kristie, of Lighterportions. Besides being amazingly beautiful on the outside, Christie is also such a warm-hearted person inside. Good thing she has that kind heart to keep her warm, as the poor girl lives in freezing-cold Canada! Kristie seems like such a fun friend; someday I would love to get together with her so we can dance the night away!

Chocolate-Covered Song of the Day
As was pointed out to me, I dropped the ball (or the squash!) in my last post by not having “Build me up Buttercup” as the song of the day. So it can be today’s song instead!

Chocolate-Covered Meal of the Day

Tomato soup (the usual), sauteed garlic-y cabbage, broiled spaghetti squash, baked tofu (marinated in soy sauce), two Love Muffins, and a baby mekan (I grew up eating these in Japan)

And yes, Erin, I do eat almost everything with chopsticks (Explanation here). I say “almost everything” because I definitely don’t eat foods like peanut butter, pudding, or soup with chopsticks LOL.

Someone once asked me if I ate oatmeal with chopsticks, and I said “no.” But after that, of course I had to try it. And guess what… it’s fun! (You might remember I also tried pancake-eating with chopsticks. It’s official– I’m insane.)

But enough chit-chat. Get to voting, people!

I hear you about the personal decision maker! Though I’m sure they would become way too stressed out and have a meltdown- definitely not good.

I’d love to see a post about vegan yogurt-making! I’ve wanted to try it for so long, but it always just confuses the heck out of me.

Katie-
I know what you mean about the decision making! It’s funny how we’d probably never be able to calculate how many we make in a day!
I’d like to see the love muffin recipe, is it based on Hannah’s? Of course, Henry’s always a cutie! =D

All those ideas sound awesome BUT a post about how to make vegan yogurt caught my eye first so that’s my vote :)

We (well, me at least) read the blog ’cause it’s all about you (well, and food)! Isn’t that the point?!

Aah I want someone to make all my decisions too ^^ Wouldn’t that make things so much easier?
As for your blog – I’d love to see that Love Muffin recipe… and the yoghurt! Ooh and some more of your eats too, because they always look so delicious and give me great ideas for new things to try myself!
Henry pictures = HELL YES! I love this little guy – can he and Pigsy be friends?

All that choice can leave me sounding like one of those ‘it was better back in the day when we could choose to eat or heat and we’d never even seen a banana’ kind of nostaligists! But I sure would like to see how to make vegan yogurt without all the faff!

I vote for the Love Muffin recipe because I could always use more love in my life.

Theoretically, I know how to use chopsticks, but in practice, I don’t! I’m sure it’s fun to see you in action. :)

I’d love to see the Love Muffin recipe! With Valentine’s sneaking up and all….

That meal-of-the-day looks super yummy. I have to try broiled spaghetti squash, and I’ve never heard of that citrus fruit.
Mekan — I’ll have to try and find it!

I heart chopsticks, I’m using some right now on stir-fry.

I haaaate making decisions, too! I wish everyone else could just make them for me and then I could complain as I see fit. :) Grown-up decisions and responsibilities are so stressful sometimes.

I just caught up with all your butternut fries posts and must say that I loved them! I am so sorry I can’t comment every time but I try to read all your lovely posts… Your writing is so fun and creative that I can’t help but want to give you a big fat hug after reading a post of yours. :) As for your question, I’d like to see the love muffin recipe and some more CCV meals.

I would go crazy if I counted my daily decisions- oh what it is like to be all grown up! Sometimes I wish I could just take myself back to my childhood days, where I didn’t have any responsibility. lol. Oh well!

I personally love reading other vegan blogger’s reviews on products!

Isn’t the point of having a blog to be all about mememe? :) When I told my parents I started one, it confirmed what they already know – I’m self-centered and vain! ;)
I’d love a chopstick tutorial! But I love hearing ABOUT YOU, that’s why I read your blog. You’re fabulous!

I def. know how you feel on the whole wanting a personal decision maker thing. My super long, personal post I posted tonight is something I’ve struggled with a long time…there were days where all I wanted was someone to tell me “just do this”. So yeah. I feel ya girl!!!

Well, if I have to choose, I say Love Muffin & Henry. But I'm okay with anything.

And it's fun to eat with chopsticks. I don't eat all my meals that way, but enjoy it on occasion :D

I’m voting for 1, 2 and 7!

And yes! I could really use a decision maker in my life. I have a motto (jokingly): “I used to be indecisive, but now I’m not so sure” and it definitely sums me up!

Reply

jane January 30, 2009 at 3:33 am

ooh vegan yogurt definitely! i recently starting buying it but if there’s a cheaper way to make it i’d love to hear it!

also, the love muffin. i’ve been wanting a good muffin all week, and i’m sure one awesome enough to be labeled “love muffin” would cure those cravings!

p.s. there’s nothing wrong with talking about or thinking about yourself– after all, getting in touch with ourselves enables us to love and serve others better!

I think a kitchen gadget post would be cool. I love seeing what everyone USES to make their creations…. yogurt is good too though :)

Oh, cute Henry. :)

I would LOVE a vegan yogurt recipe as I’m trying to lessen my dairy consumption, and I have a serious yogurt condition.

I love reading about and seeing pictures of your eats. You’ve already inspired several meals in my house, and let me just say that Smart Balance Light is heavenly!

For my celebration I would like a post about brain food.
And I don’t mean “brain pane” but rather something that will elevate my IQ.

I can empathize. My job is to make important decisions with varying amounts of actual information all day long (I’m a product manager) and I’m held accountable for all of them.. so, when I get home, I don’t want to decide *anything*. :)

I can be your personal decision maker, I’m very good at making decisions… I think. No, maybe not so much. Although I just decided to have a couple of scones and some tea without thinking about it too much, so I guess I’m good at it. Do I really want tea right now though? Maybe some peppermint tea. Or just black tea? Hmmm… what were we talking about? :)

I choose all seven topics and a double vote for Henry!!
