In the Garden of Eden (Foods)

by Chocolate-Covered Katie on February 3, 2009

I’ve always liked Eden Foods’ beans. And, about a year ago, I discovered the wonderfulness that is Eden Ponzu Sauce.  So when Eden asked me if I’d like to sample some of their new products, I of course jumped at the chance. Little did I know just how many products they’d send me…
Their generosity was mind-boggling; here’s what came in my package:

1. Organic Spelt Flakes
2. Organic Kamut Flakes
3. Organic Brown Rice Flakes
4. Organic Buckwheat
5. Wild Rice
6. Organic Popcorn
7. Organic Wild Berry Mix
8. Organic Trail Mix (called “All Mixed Up”)
9. Organic Tamari Almonds

As if that weren’t enough, the kind folks at Eden Foods also sent me a pen and TEN coupons so that I can stock my pantry with even more Eden-y goodness!

So far, I’ve tried the Kamut flakes, Spelt flakes, and Buckwheat. My mom’s been munchin‘ on the popcorn, and the trail mix has kept my dad busy during several business trips (instant airplane entertainment!).

.

Both the Spelt and Kamut flakes can be cooked in the same manner as rolled oats. The Kamut flakes are thinner than oats, and they yield a slightly sweeter hot cereal. And the Spelt flakes possess a mildly nutty, roasted flavor. Oatmeal is still #1 in my book, but by sometimes subbing these grains for my beloved oats, I’m able to get my daily oatmeal fix and have a varied diet simultaneously.
.

As for the “Mystery Grain” featured in this post? It was the Spelt Flakes. But Julz, I’ll give you credit anyway, because you tried SO hard! (And because you’re so cute!)

Chocolate-Covered Song of the Day
Hot Hot Hot
(Arrow)
Listening to this song kept me warm while I ran in the 30-degree morning. With the brightly-shining sun and “feelin hot hot hot” screaming in my head, the cold didn’t bother me one bit :o ).
.

Chocolate-Covered Meals of the Day

Isn’t it gorgeous? Curried veggies (asparagus, carrots, green beans, bean sprouts, and cauliflower), a super-sweetie orange, kale-Romaine salad with salsa, and Kamut Pilaf

Spelt Flakes made with soymilk and cinnamon, with Creamy Cantaloupe Ice Cream tagging along for the ride. Wheeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!!

I have a few more meals to post that incorporate these Eden grains, but unfortunately my camera needs to be charged before I can transfer the pics onto my computer. So I’ll get the other pictures up tomorrow. To be continued…

interesting! I tend to find “flake” cereal too bland, but it looks versatile, too :-)

running to “hot hot hot” in 30-degree weather is too cute.

Dude, how does everybody keep getting free sample stuff?! I’m so super jealous of ya’ll. What’s a girl gotta do to get some kamut flakes (Eden foods, if you’re out there and reading this, I think ya’ll are awesome and would love to sample your products!).

Anyway, enough begging and groveling. Your food looks tasty and healthy, as always!

Your so lucky! Free foods, free vitamixers.

I love eden foods too. I like that they don’t put a bunch of salt in there beans, and that there is kombu in them.

I want some ponzu sauce though! I bet it would be good on some okonomiyaki. mmm.

0MG you're S0 CUTE! I loooveeee <333

And you should get all the samples in the W0RLD! You D0CTA THEM SHIZZLES UP RIGHT Y0. REPPIN.

You know what I L000VE adding with curry… L0TS of cinnamon, red pepper flakes, and liquid aminos + water = TASTES EXACTLY LIKE Singapore style =] Minus all the nastiness that is fried and oiled… I just steam them all in the micro with those seasonings! YUMM-0.

[PS] I bought a box of Amaranth Flakes (HELL0 CHALLENGE F00D!) and other than being ridic nervous @ the grain, what do you recommend I do with the little babies? (Luckily they are in little pre-portioned baggies =] )

<3 ,
Y0 TWEEN.

How generous of the Eden folks to send you all those goodies! I’m anxious to try some of the flakes. I used my hand blender this morning to get my oat bran all nice and creamy -added a little Smart Balance Light as well. So good Katie!

Have a good day.

Random: Have you ever seen Get Fresh with Sara Snow? It’s a great TV show all about “green” living, etc. and her family is the founder of Eden Foods. Cool, huh?
