Clif, Larabar, now Kashi… Watch out, PB&Co!

by Chocolate-Covered Katie on February 12, 2009

I’ll have another chocolate-y post up tomorrow. But for right now, I wanted to warn everyone who hasn’t already heard that the Kashi Company is just the latest in the ever-growing string of companies who have recalled products with peanut butter. So if you have any Kashi bars or cookies, eat them at your own risk. They’re probably fine, as it’s a voluntary recall, but sometimes it’s better to be safe than sorry. Plus, the company will reimburse you for the products if you call this number: 877-701-5868. You can read more about the recall here: http://www.kashipeanutbutterrecall.com/.

Missing all your favorite peanutty products? Now might be a good time to order some of this stuff.

Thanks for the warning! I know you had this issue the other day, and I can’t get my latest post to show up in google reader. Any ideas?

OOh, I hope PB&Co. isn't next! I have two jars — Mighty Maple and Dark Choc Dreams — that I've been eatin' on. So far, I'm not sick. I'm also working on a tub of Earth Balance pb…hope it's safe too.

Thank you so much for the heads up!! I have a box of Kashi Peanut Butter bars, but I kept them stashed away for fear that they might be contaminated… even if their website DID previously say that they were ok. Thanks for the update again!! :)

Yeah, nuts huh? ooops, bad pun, not intended.

I wrote a brief about the peanut recall affecting the natural foods industry – http://tinyurl.com/bretdm.

People are so scared to buy PB now that we just picked up 8 jars (yes, we got a little excited) of Santa Cruz Organic PB for $1.50 a jar!

you know, as a health food store-shopping vegan, I usually feel like all these food scares don’t really apply to me. So, i’ve been surprised by the recalls reaching companies whose products I DO buy. It actually makes me think more about not buying those products in the future… to think they’re getting their ingredients from the same suppliers as companies that make total crap that I would never eat, you know? Anyhow, thanks for the warning!

It said on their website that they weren't affected but you never know. I really hope not though because I love me some PB&Co!!! I haven't been sick (besides hay fever) so I think it's safe.

The one thing I can say about the UK is we do not have the passion for peanut-butter – or cinnamon! – that you guys do, so we don’t have the proliferation of peanut butter-flavoured goodies over here. In this case it seems, that’s actually a good thing…

Why are us peanut butter lovers being punished by the Universe?

Thanks for your sweet comment, you’re too kind… kindlicious? :)

I don’t even know what to say about Joaquin!

I hadn't even heard about Clif and Larabar. I haven't had a PB&J Mojo bar for awhile, but… still. Spooky.

I didn’t know Kashi made vegan bars, so I don’t have any. I sure miss Clif and Lara though.

I completely ignored the whole pb recall, and I haven’t died yet! Knock on wood.
