Title-less in Dallas

by Chocolate-Covered Katie on February 16, 2009

(The forgettable sequel to Sleepless in Seattle)

I realized I’ve been neglecting my “Chocolate-Covered Meals of the Day” in the last few posts. Let’s remedy that right away:

Chocolate-Covered Meal of the Day
Dinnertime! Mondo mix-green and kale salad, spicy black beans, zucchini sauteed with garlic and soy sauce, awesome almondies, and creamy-blended hulled-barley pilaf
.
I’m so excited that, thanks to yummy posts from Heather and Erin, people are finally startin‘ to try my super-fantabulous blended grains’ technique!!! Yay to the extreme; now everyone can experience the creamy amazingness that is blended grains :o ). (Heather lists some great grain-makin’ tips in the comment section of her post, too.)
.
In not-as-exciting news: For the spicy black beans, I just mixed a bunch of spices (sorry, didn’t measure) with the beanie babies. And, after the photo, the beanies proposed a merger with Zucchini&Co. So I let them have at it!

.
More not-as-exciting news: I’m thankful no one teased me after my confession yesterday! Yay, there are other Blink-lovers out there!
.

A few years ago I had a friend who made fun of my taste in music, Blink 182 in particular. But no worries; the story has a happy ending—out of the blue, he gave me TWO new New Found Glory CDs to “improve” my musical education ;o). You can go ahead and make fun of me as much as you want as long as presents are involved!
.

And on that note, here’s the song of the day:

Chocolate-Covered Song of the Day
My Friends over You
(New Found Glory)

Thanks, Matt; turns out I really liked New Found Glory too! (Didn’t mean I gave up my Blink 182, though!)
.

And now, every time I hear the above song, I smile because it makes me think of Matt and how appalled he was to learn of my taste in music. I love how certain songs can trigger memories.
.

What songs bring back memories for you?

Just let those beanie babies & their opening act Corgetti & Co know that if they want to come on a European tour they can stay at my place.

Ooo, loving the creamy grains. I’ll be making some this week!

Hmm a song that brings up memories? I’d say The Great Escape by Boys Like Girls (go check out this band now! they are my favorite) brings back memories of a 2007 vacation in South Carolina.

I’m still going to have to try those blended grains!

Your last post was so incredibly sweet! I’m glad you had a lovely time!

The Postal Service’s, Give Up album reminds me of my first 2 weeks at college doing double days (=hell) for soccer. A rather lonesome time before any other students had gotten to school yet.

Those black beans look scrumptious!

Yum, love those beanie babies!

And music that brings up memories for me.. ARG all I can think of is kids music! Joanie Bartells, Peter Paul and Mary, etc. They all remind me of when I was six and would dance along with my sister in the back seat. Good times. Enjoy your Monday!

That black bean dish looks great!

I have so many songs that bring back memories! First one that I can think of is J-Lo’s Lets get loud, brings back memories of doingmy dance team dance during halftime games my junior year of high school. :)

There’s a lot of songs that bring up memories, but just the group the Beach Boys is especially salient. :) My mom used to play their TAPES on long car rides!
Yay blended grains! I hope you do try the tofu oaties!

I can’t laugh at the B182 confession – my high school senior quote MAY OR MAY NOT be from a Blink song. Emphasis on “may.”

Never be ashamed of your taste in music my friend. It's completely random, and I love it. Music is such a huge part of my life, and I connect every major occurance (minor too) with a certain song. Love my tunes. :)

It's about freaking time people started eating your creamy grain bowls…have no idea what took them (& me) so long to try.

Have a wonderful week Katie!!!!!!

I am surprised at how bright and yummy everything looks! I'm a vegan too, but don't take the time to make my food look "pretty." I love blended grains… my grandma used feed us them far before it was popular! I think you should put this information up on RawPeople… I think people would love your stories, and pretty food! :)

Dude, it’s totally okay that you like Blink. I like the Jonas Brothers. You better believe my friends make fun of me for that too.

ooooooh I like this question!DEF “I Will Always Love You” by Whitney Houston…I would sing it NON stop when I was little. Only I thought she was saying “And Die” rather than “And I”, which my parents found too amusing to tell me until I was like 11:P

There’s this silly song from 1996 that reminds me of driving around with my best friend… I think its called “Whoever You Are”…don’t remember the band!

Your meals always look so appetizing in those cutie plates and bowls! Song memories? Hmmm. I’d have to say “Stairway to Heaven,” that old groaner cliche (that’s how far back my music memories go!)

my immersion blender is my best friend – soooo many creamy soups and dips and snackity snacks to munch on, mmm.

my current musical obsessions are cut copy, lykke li, and basically whatever else is european or dance-able, haha.

any song from John Mayer’s first album reminds me of high school and driving around in my little old car :)

The beanies are single and ready to mingle! With the zucchini, that is.

Songs that bring back memories. Well, here’s the thing, it actually happens backwards. Some things that I do, remind me of songs or movies/TV shows. For example, I was making pizza a couple of weeks ago and “What a girl wants” with Amanda Bynes (I know) was on, so the next time I made pizza I kept thinking about that movie. It happens with songs too. So I’m all backwards!

Oh gosh, I have lots of songs that remind me of soccer too. One year in high school, some of the seniors made a mix tape with a song for evry girl’s name! I don’t know how on earth they managed to find songs for all of us!

You’re grains are genius. genius. I’ve been gushing about my breakfast all day!
And as for songs…so many bring back memories. Strawberry Fields makes me think of my Dad. Guster makes me think of a summer a few years ago. Great Big Sea makes me think of my boyfriend! And there are many more I’m sure!

Yeah, no need to be embarassed by your music collection. Mine is totally random, and people will raise eyebrows, but I don’t care.

I can’t think of any particular song that brings back memories right now, but I bet as soon as I heard one, I would! HA!

Vegyogini February 17, 2009 at 4:50 am

That’s too difficult a question! Zillions of my memories are linked to music. :)

Hahaha, I’m not sure NFG ranks much higher than Blink182 in the grand scheme of musical greatness, but I still can’t poke fun. I have also listened to NFG while working out…
