Works every time!
(from Legally Blonde)
.
If you’ve been reading this blog for a while, you’re probably sick and tired of my mentioning the blended grains technique in every single freakin’ post. Well, then you’re in luck, because this post is not about blended grains. After all, there are other foods, besides grains, that you can blend
.
.
Such as… Beans!
Scooping out some Amy’s Baked Beans one day, my eye caught sight of the never-far-away hand blender. And thus, a new bean dip was born.
Chocolate-Covered Beanie-Baby Meals:
Baked Beanie Blend, snow peas dipped in vegan mayo (I was going to have Zesty Zucchini Fries, but was pressed for time), steamed cauliflower, and a Rudi’s English Muffin with a bit o’ vegan butter. Yum yum.
.
Blended Baked Beans, broccoli slaw (made the same way as here), steamed asparagus, and Rye-flake pilaf (a new favorite grain, courtesy of these guys)
.
.
The Blended Baked Beans are also great as a dip for spinach and other raw veggies.
And I bet they’d make a terrific sauce, too (Maybe here: Betty Spaghetti Squash).
I also created a recipe for a Black-Eyed-Pea Bean Dip, so I’ll hopefully post that soon (more on the dip can be found here). Yikes, there are so many posts I want to write!

On a separate note: A reader (hi Natalie!) asked me for more info on the Acai-sicle featured in this post: Hop on Pop(sicle). Below is a picture of the juice I used:
Now if you’ll excuse me…
*Ambles back into the kitchen to see what else she can blend*
Muahahahaha! Nothing can escape my all-powerful hand blender!
What’s your favorite food to blend? I don’t think I need to even mention mine

I guess it has to be humus.
i love smoothies, and your blended grains were pretty good
Blended beans! I must try it
Pesto!
I love blending beans – especially left-overs. If we have left-over beans or lentils or whatever, I’ll often blend ‘em up and use them as spreads, or add some vegan mayo and pickle and use as sammie spread or even some cumin and such for burritos. I do love the blending. “You blend, and blend, and blend” Great movie quote…
Oh shit, I just saw Legally Blonde the musical last month, and now that Bend and Snap number is in my head. Love the blended bean dip idea. You know I’m not big on super creamy foods, but you dip crunchy stuff into creamy stuff and that balances things out.
Is there anything you won’t blend Katie? At least you have the comfort of knowing that if you ever lose all your teeth, you still have plenty of things you can eat!
I still need to try your blended grains technique. I eat tons of grains, yet I never think of blending them until after I’ve eaten most of them.
Hehe, you do like to blend! My favorite thing to blend is ice cream…into a shake, of course
Loving the beans
what a wonderful idea! Especially for bean dip – I know what appetizer I’ll be bringing to my next family holiday get together
My fave thin to blend would prooobably be some kind of yogurt and fruit to make a smoothie!
Love, Meg
Blended beans…..brilliant!!
I think you win the best post title for the day!
My favorite food to blend is silken tofu – I love your tofu pudding concoctions!
i love how you name your recipes! i am boring and just blend tofu into dessert dishes!
That looks easy to make and yummy! Happy Friday!
Not really up your alley, but I love to blend cottage cheese. I imagine sliken tofu is just as yummy.
Great idea!!! Your such a genius =)
My favorite blended food? Oats!!!
I’m a blend lady too!!! blend blend blend to create marvelous food!
Mmmm blended beans! I’ve nearly come to the conclusion that everything is better blended. Although maybe I’d take that back if I tried blending something like pizza. ALTHOUGH blended pizza actually sounds like it just might not be half bad… am I going too far?
I had blended kamut flakes at brekkie. YUMS!
I love that movie! And smushy beans. Yum.
Garbanzo beans + lemon juice, s&p, tahini, garlic, spices and EVOO = Heavenly hummus!
favourite food to blend? cashews with just about anything … such as a little miso or roasted garlic or a whole lot of cilantro or agave and cinnamon or chocolate chips or paprika and sage or or or…
My current favorite food to blend is asparagus, for asparagus soup…
I think your brilliant baked beans idea is soon to become my new favorite, though!
You are a blending machine! What a horrible pun (?)
I think dips are my favourite thing to blend, because I believe all foods are made better (and more fun) when they can be dipped!
Tomatoes, Onions, and Peppers for Salsa!
O yea, I tried the Moophrey and they’re AWESOME =]
Blend and Snap! haha Made me laugh! Love the blended beans! yum!
Mmm I just had some of those baked beans today–they’re so sweet and delicious, I can only imagine how fab they would be as a dip.
I think it goes without saying that my favorite thing to blend is smoothies!
Mmm, those blended baked beans sound wonderful. Yummy!
love the beans!!! it looks fantastic! not many people in my family like beans, but hey… i still do.. lol
I love your love of the blender. It even exceeds my own
I recently discovered the joy of blending beans myself. The other day I blended up some black beans and pumpkin for a delicious spread. I highly recommend it!
I love the bend and snap! Haha, Legally Blonde is so great!
I’m a blend o master, too. I love blending soups (even those not requiring blending). Recently I used it on some Mexican Black Beans with Peppers. They just didn’t get that starchy soupy effect. Enter stick blender and veggie stock. Bang-a-rang!
Hi,
I think I should start blending more food, too!
As you love your grains: Have you ever tried Weetabix? They make for a delicious, creamy porridge, too (especially when being prepared with hot water and a bit of coconut milk … yum!).
Hey Sina!
Oh gosh, I looooove weetabix! One of my favorite cereal combinations has weetabix flakes:

But I never thought to try it with coconut milk. Yum!!
