Starting with another new food for the New-Food Challenge:
The new food this week was Starfruit. Sadly, it did not make a good impression on me (nor on my mom). Perhaps I just picked an unripe fruit?

It looks pretty enough. Too bad.

Moving on…
Chocolate-Covered Meal of the Day
Everybody’s favorite meal– breakfast!
What?! You mean it’s not everybody’s favorite meal? Well I bet it would be if you all ate like the lovely Meg! Just look at the deliciousness (below) that is Meg’s version of Peaches-n-Cream Oatmeal Dream. And what better time to make this than now, when peaches are coming back into season?
(Above, Meg’s Peaches-n-Cream Oatmeal Dream.
The oh-so-lovely Meg also used the Melted Banana Trick.).
.
Even more randomness…
A shout-out to Carrie of PETA for sending me not only the Vegan College Cookbook that seems to be omnipresent in the blogworld these days, but also U-chic: The College Girl’s Guide to Everything. Since I’m on vacation right now, I haven’t yet gotten a chance to make anything from the cookbook, but I did flip through it before I left, and I’m lovin’ some of the creative recipe titles. Thanks so much, Carrie!

Further randomness…
Popsicle Flavor of the Day
It’s a Vruit-sicle!

These rambunctious little boxes jumped into my cart at Whole Foods the other day, and the juice makes for super-yummy popsicles.

Plus, ya gotta love the semi-creepy fruit faces
.
.
.
Let’s see… what other randomness can I throw in? How about another random meal?

A satisfying Second Breakfast:
- Scrambled veggies (Mad Scramble minus the tofu– I wanted tofu later in the day, so I left it out for the sake of variety)
- Pink grapefruit slices (on yet another crazy-fun dish)
- Not pictured, a glass of Nature’s sports drink!
- Two plump little Love Muffins
One more Act of Randomness– a random question!
What’s your absolute favorite place in the world? (I mention mine here, in scrapbook form.)
.
And so concludes a ridiculously-random post.

That question is a lot harder to answer than I thought it would be…but here I am still unable to narrow it down to one! Maybe I’ll just be lame and say my favorite place is wherever my boyfriend is. CHEEEEEEEEESE
those berry faces are a bit creepy!!! they don’t look like they want to be eaten
i don’t know if i could pick just ONE place to call my favorite… but what comes to mind is prob Banos, Ecuador – it was so lush like a rainforest and the people were so friendly. not to mention i ate so many fresh fruits and veggies from farmstands every day
Sorry to hear you didn’t like the star fruit. It sure looks pretty! That popsicle looks yummy, but dang! That berry face is creepy! I’m sure it would scare me if I was a kid!
I wasn’t a big fan of starfruit either when I tried it a few years ago ….
Aw I love Meg!
You inspired me.. I bought a kabocha yesterday at the Reading Terminal Market.
And I’m pretty jealous of everyone that got the PETA cookbook. How’d you get a hold of it.. she contacted you?
And a big BLEEHHHH to the starfruit. I’m no fan either. Pretty but unappetizing.
Loveyababe.

I had the same reaction to starfruit when I tried it. It wasn’t worth it. :/
My favorite place? Can I just say anywhere between the latitudes 30 and 55 degrees N? Okay, thanks.
Love,
Emma
My absolute favorite place in the whole world would be Hilton Head Island. It’s where my family LOVED to vacation when us kids were growing up. We haven’t been back in years but I’m totally wanting to live out in the Carolinas now. Living somewhere beautiful makes me so happy, so that’s the goal when I’m looking for my next move!
Love your random posts
and what a hard question! I’m going to have to go with Costa Rica. The people there are so nice and the land is beautiful. Would love to move there someday!
I have always wanted to try starfruit! Too bad about the flavor though =/
That oatmeal looks heavenly! I can’t believe I haven’t made that combo yet =0
I have both of those books! U Chic is from the library though, I can’t wait to start reading.
I haven’t been far but my favorite place so far in my travels would have to be Hilton Head, South Carolina
Katie,
My random friend, I don’t think I’ve ever had Starfruit. I’m bummed you didn’t like it that much as it just looks so cute and fun.
Loved all your random eats, and that’s a great idea to make popsicles from that juice.
My favorite place in the world? Too many to choose from. How about my top 3:
1. Tuscany
2. Wales
3. Colorado
i like randomness, espeicaly when its chocolate covered! my favorite place isn’t sophisticated- it’s ocean city new jersey! mainly cause i love the beach and i love the memories of being there with family
speaking of which, hope you are enjoying your vacation to the fullest!
p.s. my mom took some of that juice to india and i agree the faces are CREEPY! but funny too
Too bad you didn’t like starfruit – I love it! I tried purple cauliflower yesterday and it’s pretty darn good. I also tried Cluckphrey patties and they were alright but not mind-blowing.
My favorite place in the world is Beaver Stadium. To clarify, that’s the home of Penn State football. I love being there on game day with 110,000 other fans, everyone cheering together and wearing white. Just thinking about it makes me wish for fall…
the starfruit is an acquired taste. I suspect that this was not a good one. They are excellent when you blend them and add some sugar. I rarely eat them like that because they have to be super ripe.
But it looks so pretty! How could something so pretty taste bad?!
Hmmm, my favourite place in the world would have to be my beach house about 75 minutes north of Auckland, New Zealand. It helps that I have so many awesome memories of childhood summer holidays there but it is beautiful.
Starfruit – tastes bad?! Really?! I’ve never tried one, but they look SO AWESOME! It’s just one of those things that you really wanna eat, haha! I’m so sad that it wasn’t as tasty as it looks! Maybe next time
Oooh, maybe it would be good in a recipe maybe?! Just an idea
Those juice boxes definitely look like the kind that just so happen to make their way into shopping carts. Sneaky sneaky. I hope you enjoy every last one of those popsicles! Although the fruit-face is a little strange, the popsicles look great
Thank you so much for the shout out, I love your oat ideas! I’m planning on the Snickerdoodle tomorrow
I can’t wait. You’re a genius!
Love,
Meg
I LOVE random posts! Since mine are pretty much always random!
and I agree that breakfast really is the best meal!
haha the fruit faces are whacked!
sorry the starfruit was no bueno. i made a take on your cauliflower “cheese” mash the other day, and it was yum yum yum. also, im proud to say, i FINALLY made my own edamammus (edamame + hummus) the toher day. if you havent done this yet, you MUST! stat!
Oh no! I feel the need to defend my precious star fruit. I think maybe they might be best when you eat them in their native homeland- by a beach on a tropical island. They may be one of those acquired taste things- given the weird blending of an apple and orange that make up star fruit. I think they are delicious! I can gobble up a whole one just as it is- though it is nice sitting on the side of a tropical beverage. Try it again… just to see.
my fav place…is wherever my loved ones are
btw, starfruits are really not much of a tasty fruit…I don’ think they were bad, just being ol’ regular unspectacular starfruit. they sure are pretty, tho!
Hmmm…I can’t remember what starfruit tastes like. It’s been so long! But it is really pretty!
Sorry the star fruit didn’t taste as good as it looked!
Yay for new cookbooks!!! And my favourite place in the whole world? My bed, in winter, with a hot water bottle!
Interesting about the starfruit. first time i tried one, it was disgusting. if they are yellowy-orange, i think they will taste like rotten fruit. they need to be light yellow with maybe still a tinge of green. then it’s a lovely tartness (but i find lemons sweet so…) a nice firm, tart starfruit sliced into little stars with melted dark chocolate drizzled over and then popped in the freezer makes a nice summery snack.
Katie,
Hey darlin! It’s so great to “see” your shining face this morning!
Wowser! I love the idea of fruit juice popsicles! Genius.
My fav place is my kitchen!
Have a great Thursday day girlie!
With Love,
Emily
Sorry the starfruit was icky!!! I hate that!
Hope you are still off having fun! I am slightly jealous as it seems like a super long vacay! I need a vacay!!
Fav place: Anywhere with my husband
Yes, I am a cheese-ball!
I like starfruit– it never occured to me that someone else wouldn’t! I like them best when they’re crisp. They remind me of an apple mixed with a pineapple.
I hate that the star fruit was disappointing. I like them, but I am more of a passion fruit/guava/mango person.
Oh my god, I have no idea! Can I copy Diana nd say where my hus is? Second, Oregon
My home!
Not that Lubbock isn’t paradise!
Katie!! i did the new food challenge and posted the result on my blog! i tried a “litchi” ever had one?? it’s in spanish but i have a translator at the bottom
check it out!
No it’s not just you, starfruits in my experience, have shown less than “star potential”. They’re bland and ehhh! Alot of people find dragonfruit to be flavorless but they’re just mellowed sweetness which I really gravitate to. So thirst quenching
And I ALWAYS use your melted banana trick for me oaties (check my bloggyy for my latest oatmeal flavor. Hint: It incorporates toasted macadamian nuts and mango chunks)
Awww, I’m so sad that star fruit didn’t taste as good as it looks. Oh well, good for you for trying something new! Mmm, that peaches ‘n cream oatmeal looks fabulous. Breakfast is definitely my favorite meal of the day
I loooove starfruit.
and place?
Im in total nerdville
right now it is my house.
the domicile.
hanging with my toddler.
(cringe. I know )
Hahha, the faces on those are definitely kind of creepy.
I tried starfruit once and…I don’t remember liking it either. In any case, I haven’t bought it since! Too bad, since it is so pretty
That is some creepy looking fruit on the box of that juice. I think it might scare children. LOL.
Starfruit I find kind of boring – it’s mostly just refreshing, without alot of flavour (as least, all the ones I’ve had). But it does make for a great garnish, especially on the rim of a martini glass
