Fun Fourth

by Chocolate-Covered Katie on July 5, 2009

Although the insipid title might suggest otherwise, my Fourth of July was anything but dull.

I woke up this morning, though, and realized I didn’t have a post planned for today.  So, since I’m short on time, I’ll do a quick recap of just the highlights of my Fourth of July (leaving out the fireworks—y’all probably saw so many yesterday that you don’t need more from me!).

This year, the Fourth of July turned into Carnival of the Animals

Poor Molly did NOT enjoy the fireworks.  I did my best to shield her, but she was shaking like a leaf by the end.  Happens every year :(

(At least she managed to stay clean this year.)

Henry was oblivious.  No, that’s not really true; this photo was taken before the fireworks started.  Henry was just as scared as Molly.

hman

Do you think it’d be possible for him to sleep in any tighter of a ball???

Bu the Star of the Spangled Show was definitely this guy:

I thought he’d move away when I snapped a photo, but he was one brave little horned lizard!

And speaking of brave…

How brave was I to bring seaweed to a barbecue?   I won’t lie and say that everyone loved the salad (although many people did).  Oh well; more for me.

True, it’s no fondant-decorated cupcake.  But it’s just as good, in its own seaweed-y way.

All the Way Arame Salad

(Who cares if it’s not red, white, and blue?)

All for now.  Come back tomorrow for pancakes :)

Best part of your Fourth of July?  Or, for you non-Americans, your Saturday?

And now that Fourth of July is over for the year, I’ll cease my incessant linking to Spandex Man.  He’s gotten more than enough face-time (shorts-time?) on my blog.

I would’ve loved the seaweed salad Katie :P but like you said – more for you if other’s don’t want to try it, right?!

Woahh was that lizard in your backyard? That’s insane! I think I’d flip out if something like that showed up anywhere but the zoo around here, haha!

My dog also HATES fireworks, or any loud noises for that matter…I guess it’s more of a big dog thing :)

Glad you enjoyed your 4th! Can’t wait for some pancakes tomorrow.

Love,
Meg

So cool that you brought a dish you knew you’d enjoy and I’m glad some others did, even if everyone didn’t!

My favorite part of the 4th is spending time with friends and family and having some tasty BBQ – veggie or otherwise ;-)

Best part was everything! The food, roasting S’mores, and chatting about good vegan eats.

Just wondering what on earth(or sea:) does sea weed taste like? I don’t know if I would be brave enough to eat that or not.

I wish there was seaweed salad at my bbq! There was no veggie options and I ended up just eating at home later :(

I think that is the cutest Henry picture to date!

Your dogs are so adorable! Our first poodle hated the fireworks, but our current dog, Bayley, didn’t seem to be too affected.

My favorite part of the 4th was spending time with my fam!

Hugs to your pups! My aunt had a dog who was very scared of fireworks, and she’d take her pup for rides out in the country on the fourth of July.

I think your salad looks awesome! I would have been all over it!!

Yeah, cats aren’t so good with the fireworks either I find. Sounds like you had a good 4th of July :)

That salad looks gorgeous – loving all the colours :)

Hmmm, well since I don’t get to celebrate 4th of July over here I guess the best part of my Saturday was having a Harry Potter movie marathon with friends! We may be closing in towards 30 but that doesn’t mean we can’t love Harry!

Aww, poor Molly and Henry–I want to give them a hug. My dogs don’t care for the fireworks either!

Most animals are scared by fireworks. There sould be an animal-friendly version, don’t you think?
I am glad you enjoyed the holiday. And since you asked, we celebrated, too. Not the 4th of July but my BF’s birthday. And now bring on the pancakes :)
