A birthday without Chocolate is no birthday at all

by Chocolate-Covered Katie on September 16, 2009

First things first:

(Going back to yesterday’s Friends discussion)

For all the other Friends-watchers out there, who’s your favorite character?  I don’t know that I can choose!  I think one of the reasons the show was so popular was that everyone could see a little of his or herself in each character.  I guess if I had to pick, I’d say Chandler.  He was just so gosh-darn funny :)

On to today’s post:

I’ve watched the movie For Richer or Poorer over and over.  Yet I still don’t know: What in Sam Hill is a Schnitz Pie?!  I guess I could Google it… but honestly, who cares?  As long as there’s chocolate mousse pie in the world, ain’t no need for any other type of pie ;) .

So what did I look forward to the most on my birthday?  Well, no, it wasn’t the pie.  But that certainly was a highlight!

True love in action: a girl and her chocolate mousse pie

   kblog

(Made by my lovely mommy, who modified the mousse recipe a little so it’d work as a pie)

The rich, chocolatey-ness was insane.  Perfect birthday treat.

And thanks to two dear friends…

…Chocolate Fest did not end on my birthday!

Nope.  A few days later, I received the following in the mail:

znyc 087

Do you want to know the nicest girl in the world?  Her name is Heather, and she lives here:

Heathereatsalmondbutter.com

Not only did she send me some serious Jay-Robb loving (and a cute card), she made me a batch of her Maple Oaties—with 90% dark chocolate pieces!!—from scratch!  I was especially touched by the fact that she thought to use extra-dark chocolate because it’s my favorite.  Friends that considerate are one in a million.  Heather is truly a gem.

The above picture doesn’t really do justice to the size of the Jay Robb package.  (I just realized how dirty that sounds.)

So, for your viewing pleasure:

 wjay

I either have a huge cell phone (hello 1990s!) or that is one honkin’ big package of Jay Robb!

A few more days later:

The other nicest girl in the world lives here:

Damjanalikesitwholesome.wordpress.com

After I wrote this post on my favorite chocolate, Damjana told me that she wanted to send me chocolate from a factory right near her home in Slovenia!  Oh, to have a chocolate factory right near one’s home…

Thank you so much, Damjana, for sending me such an awesome present!!

To Recap

Heather lives here: heathereatsalmondbutter.com

Damjana lives here: damjanalikesitwholesome.wordpress.com

And that chocolate mousse pie?

 mousse

It recently relocated… to my belly! ;)

Happy birthday again!

I don’t know what’s more gorgeous, you or the pie!

I’m with you. No choclate, no birthday. To be honest, I think every day without chocolate is not such a good day. Even if it is only a tiny bit, there has to be chocolate :)

how sweet. nothing better than good friends. and speaking of… my favorite character is probably phibi (is that how you spell it!?!)

Ooooh, that pie would have made it into my belly very quickly, too. Is it okay if I ask for the recipe?
I don’t know whether you can get it where you live but my (not-so-secret) addiction is Chocolate Tea. It’s such a nice sugar-free chocolatey treat :) .

I forgot to say that the present from Heather and Damjana are so nice, too!

Katie, I love you, and I loved Chandler too. Oh, how I miss that show.

So glad you enjoyed your big bag of Jay love as well as your Oaties…I had a hard time keeping CD out of that batch!

Your chocolate mousse pie sounds divine…so much chocolate loving in this post. :)

Ha! I’m glad you caught the dirtiness in that Jay Robb’s package comment because if not, I’d have to bring it up. You know where my mind always goes!

Glad your birthday was swell! And that chocolate mousse pie looks so amazing!

Happy Birthday (belated)!

The chocolate mousse pie looks wonderful! I don’t know if I would have had the willpower to share!

I do have to agree that a chocolate mousse pie will beat a snitz pie anyday. Dried apple rings are called snitz and I believe the snitz pie referred to would be a pie made with dried apples.

Chocolate, chocolate, dark and handsome, that’s how I like em too :)

Chocolate Jay…

I have chocolate and vanilla Sun Warrier

And Vanilla Jay, but never chocolate Jay.

I would love to hear your thoughts on it, and if you’ve tried the vanilla or chocolate of either Sun W or Jay’s vanilla?

I think that Heather is one in a million and that would be the most divine present to get a little oatie treat in the mail from her! I just bookmarked her oatie recipe in her post yesterday b/c I need to get on that….pronto :)

Choosing a favorite Friends character is hard! I think I’d say Monica though. Or Phoebe. Or Joey. Ok, I can’t pick – I love them all!

Happy belated birthday!
Love all that chocolate!
I didn’t watch Friends too much, but my favorite was Ross.

Reply

Jenny R. September 16, 2009 at 7:47 pm

that’s so sweet of those girls! how do you do-up your jay robb…in oats or in a drink? I’m scared of what it will do to the consistency of oatmeal so I have yet to try that technique.
Ross in the later episodes but Chandler in the earlier ones. For sure needing a reunion. Seinfeld’s even having one (sort of).

I’m glad I’m not the only one who thinks of chocolate all day! ;)

I think I related most to the anal-retentiveness of Monica, but I loved the hippy-love of Phoebe… I also found Chandler very funny. :)

What great blog friends you have! Sounds like you had a very good birthday week!

You are SO right–that show was made so you couldn’t have a fave. If I HAD to pick, I’d say Chandler or Monica–they are both so realistically endearing with all of their idiosyncrasies

I’d have to agree that “Heather is a gem.” What a sweetheart!

And your mom rules too, not that we didn’t already know that! I love my mom, but she has never made any food for me since going vegetarian. Boo!

Happy Wednesday!

Wow…AMAZING pie!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My mommy offered to throw me a birthday bash this year….SO SO SO sweet. About 5 of of my friends are going to be on tour with their band, though, and won’t be around…I’m devastated that they’re gonna be gone so long and it kinda gets me out of a celebratory mood. But the birthday enthusiasm on your posts makes me rethink doing something….and baking yummy things for everyone who comes :-)

I love Monica, because she is basically a caricature of myself, from the neuroses to the abnormal strength to the neuroses:-)

Lucky girl! I’ve been searching for that rice protein forever and a day. You must tell me what you think–if our taste buds are as similar as the rest of us, I think there’s a good chance your review would be quite useful!

Alisa - Frugal Foodie September 17, 2009 at 3:56 am

Aw, what sweeties … the food and the ladies!

Um, on your first question, I think it is too hard to pick! My first thought was Feebs, then you said Chandler and I was like “too funny,” then I thought of Joey’s facial expressions, Monica’s obsessive compulsiveness … do I have to choose?

Reply

Kaitlin September 17, 2009 at 4:04 am

lol, I’ve been a fan of your blog for about a month now and always enjoy reading, but I felt compelled to comment today- I think I’ve quite possibly watched For Richer or Poorer more than anyone else. I have no idea why I liked it so much as a kid. Most people don’t know what I’m talking about when they ask ‘favorite movie,’ so I was amused when I read your blog entry today! Happy belated birthday!

Melinda September 17, 2009 at 9:23 am

Perfect way to celebrate. Chocolate is essential. And I agree, dark is the best, there is no other that compares. It’s great that you have so many thoughtful friends. At least you know they pay attention and think about your feelings.

Reply

Shelby September 17, 2009 at 10:33 am

Aw Katie! I can’t choose my favortie character! I love them all equally! Rachel totally reminds me of myself though.

That pie? Swoon! And the cookies look amazing too. I bought dark chocolate the other day and when I got home I looked at the back and it was like 53%…needless to say I almost spit it out it was so sweet! I prefer mine at least 70% and higher.
