Putting the R in random

by Chocolate-Covered Katie on November 12, 2009

The responses you all are leaving on the Guilt and Exercise post are great.

I am reading them, even if I haven’t responded to them all.  That’s another thing I need to work on: feeling guilty about not having time to personally respond to all the sweet comments I get.  But please be assured that I read them all!!

So keep leaving your thoughts. :)

.

.

Since I’m supposed to mention them daily, as part of my self-prescribed therapy, here’s your Fudge Baby Flavor of the Day:

Chocolate-Covered-Strawberry Fudge Babies

znyc 412

Basically, I just used the Hot Chocolate fudge baby version and added dried strawberries.

For Heather’s pomegranate recipe challenge, I wanted to do a Chocolate-Pomegranate flavor, but since I couldn’t locate dried pomegranate seeds, I settled for dried strawberries instead.  But if you find dried pomegranate seeds (or any other dried berry), feel free to substitute.

Africard of the Day

And I’m glad I just posted this, because it reminded me that I need to make some more Africards; I’m running out, which is a good thing, I guess :)

IMPORTANT Kitchen-Gadget Giveaway Note

I am not going to email the winner of the Your-Choice Giveaway.  So you’ll have to check back here to see if you’ve won.  (I’ll announce the winner either tomorrow or Saturday.)  I don’t mean to be annoying… I’m doing this as a way to generate more page views for the charity drive.

.

.

Now, go leave your thoughts on the guilt and exercise post.

And if you’ve already done that, just randomly click around a few times to raise more money for charity ;) .

Chocolate covered strawberry sounds yummy! I admit that I usually push fruit right out of the way when I see chocolate, but that’s the best of both worlds! :)

Aww, the card is adorable! I’m sure you’ve noticed, but just in case – there’s a pesky 404 error on your home page.

The fudge babies look delicious as always :)

I am clicking away on as many pages as possible. However, I haven’t commented on the guilt and exercise post because it’s still a very raw and sensitive topic with me at the moment and I’m in rather a bad place in many ways with it. Not that I don’t think it’s a fantastic subject to have raised, I just don’t feel psychologically strong enough to go into my own views or experiences in any detail.

I just didn’t want you to think that I’d forgotten about operation CCK or didn’t care about the post topic!

You don’t have to respond to all of my comments. They are comments from me to you, not solicitations for emails to me. But it’s very sweet of you to be so considerate of your readers.

I made babies!! With mostly cashews, some almonds a bit of coconut butter and a few farmer’s market dates that were so fresh, one dripped on my shirt when I was sampling it at the booth. Into the vitamix went the ingredients and out came dreams and love and bliss rolled in little balls. Yum!!

I’ve been reading through ur blog and FAQ, and I can’t help feeling that u are just…full of crap. If u are struggling with an eating disorder, why don’t u just admit it instead of going through all this pains to deny it and “prove” that u are not. There is a natural petite, and an unnatural, unattractive skinniness, and u are the latter.
I also think u are a self-promoter, disguised under charity drives that serves only to generate more page views for ur blog.
I know I am being a “meanie” for saying such things, but someone needed to call u out. I’ll bet a lot of ppl are thinking the same things, becauz I was referred to u by another person who told me abt ur blog, who also thinks u are full of crap.

Hi Katie, I have a weird question for ya… but don’t feel like you have to respond because I don’t want to contribute to any guilt :) I know you are a busy lady!

Anyway, I was wondering if rude friends, family, or strangers give you a hard time for your Africards. I say that because in the past I have raised money for charities in Africa (when I ran my first marathon I raised money for the International Association of Afghan Women) and I could not BELIEVE it but a lot of people actually gave me a hard time for it.

They gave me grief 1, because so many people still have negative opinions about people in that part of the country, 2, because they just didn’t care about those people like I did, and/or 3, because they felt that I should focus on the needs here in America instead of worrying about people in other countries.

I was just curious if you had ever received this type of feedback from others, or if it was just me that got this type of negative flak.

I, for one, think your work with Africards is amazing and should be commended! Keep up the great work! :)

Katie, I hope you know well enough to ignore Tracey’s comment. Sometimes people just take things the way they want to see things, and there’s nothing you can do about it. I hope you know that you and the things you do are fantastic, and there’s no short supply of people who believe so.

Anyway! I’m excited about the newest fudge baby creation. <3

And your Africard made me squeal and shout "Kawaii!!" Just saying. xD I'm a big arts 'n crafts fan, too.

Tracey,
It’s sad that you’d waste your time reading through someone’s faq and old posts if you don’t even like that person. It sounds like you, not me, are the one with an eating disorder.

However, I’m happy you’re reading for whatever reason, because it means more page views for the charity drive ;)

P.S. If I really was only interested in page views/money for myself, I’d definitely do something else instead of blogging. Any blogger will tell you that blogging does NOT make much money, considering the time and effort one puts into it.

Tracey November 13, 2009 at 3:00 am

Well, Katie, I DID NOT know who u really were until I read ur blog. The only reason why I read urs on the first place was because someone told me about u, and curiosity got the better of me.

And yeah, I have an eating disorder. Which is why it’s even clearer to me that you have one, too. The difference bwn u and me is that I don’t deny it and create all kinds of crap to prove that I don’t. I am not proud of it, and am still struggling with it, but I am honest abt it. If I had a blog I would be honest in it, too. In fact, I read blogs for inspiration, but urs is just pure poison and I am not going to read it from now on, so you don’t need to worry abt me bothering u anymore.

If u really cared abt charity, u would be donating straight-up and not turn it into a publicity stunt.

Michelle November 13, 2009 at 3:15 am

hmm… “try to make ‘ur’ blog popular” it already IS popular, and “poison”, I don’t follow… “I bet a lot of ppl are thinking the same thing”, what? I only see a lot of people thinking the exact OPPOSITE. silly me, I am just not cold-hearted and self centered I guess.
Anyway, what exactly are these africards? They are super cute! (I am a craft-junkie myself, but have never heard of these things)

Another wonderful fudge baby creation. :D I bet it’s possible to dry your own pomegranate arils. Stick ‘em in the oven at 165-175*? That’s how I dried apple slices and banana slices (so chewy and yummy!).

You self-promoter, you, trying to get people to click around your blog to raise money for charity. I’m sure those who benefit from the Enough Project are throwing their arms in the air in disgust.
I was just going to comment to say you’re clever in getting people to check in to see if they’ve won and that I’ve been using my “cough” work “cough” time to click away through your archives, but Tracey’s comment made me quite annoyed. It’s as stupid as saying “there’s white and then there’s just too white, you are sick, go lay out in the sun”.
You’re gorgeous Katie, inside and out, I’ve never once thought you look sickly skinny, you’re thin with the healthiest glow I’ve ever seen. Anyone who thinks you are sick clearly is far too caught up in their own mental issues.

Woah, I came here to leave an innocent comment about fudge babies and found the above from some a**holes who have nothing better to do with their time?

Am I the only one who thinks Tracey and Another One are the same person? Just sayin.

And that Tracey says she’s “honest” about her disorder is the most laughable thing I’ve ever heard! So now leaving rude anonymous comments on people’s blogs is being honest? Hm, I wonder what her therapist would say (if she even has one. she doesn’t sound too committed to recovery to me!)

I think you are beautiful, Katie, and Tracey is seriously jealous that skinny, happy, healthy people exist and can be healthy and happy when she’s not!
Keep on doing what you’re doing!

Hey Katie – after what I said in my email to you (i.e people’s criticisms and judgments are more about them than you) I think Tracey is an IDEAL example (it was almost too good to be true!).

I still can’t believe that people would be so vindictive. I was always told growing up – if you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything at all.

Dearest Katie, I LOVE the choco-covered strawberry baby idea ! Just wanted to let you know that you inspired me and I ended up making my own darling babies with a blend of soaked cashews/brazils (got them from work..), dates, and *fresh* strawberries – and it made the tastiest little concoction – sweet, nutty, with a delicious hint of strawberry ! Because the nuts were soaked, the “babies” weren’t as hard, BUT I thought to mix them in with my morning breakfast (yesterday: quinoa, today: oatmeal) and it took both breakfasts to the next level !

Thanks for the inspiration! Like I’ve said before, you are *wonderful* !
