Get the h*** outta my Kitchen!

by Chocolate-Covered Katie on November 25, 2009

Oh man, some of your comments yesterday were hilarious.

Thanks for the source of entertainment.  And I’m glad to know I’m not the only one who’s observed that big men have little

It’s time for the Thanksgiving-preparation scramble. I can tell ya, my mom has not left the kitchen since yesterday afternoon!  Poor Mommy… but she enjoys cooking. (*Shudder*)  Unfortunately for her, I’m going to have to bug her soon, as I need to get in there to make my Thanksgiving dishes.

Do any of y’all have issues letting others into the kitchen when you’re working?

Personally, I like when others join me: the more the merrier (especially since the company gives me a distraction from cooking, which isn’t my favorite thing to do).  But Mommy Dearest feels crowded, even by little old me.  Oh all right, I’ll admit I can make a big mess when I cook…  but I always clean up afterwards.  Actually, she doesn’t mind others being in the kitchen, as long as they’re not cooking.

.

.

I’ve decided NOT to make Pumpkin Pie Babies for Thanksgiving.

Wait!  Hear me out: As much as I like the babies, I’m worried that our health-food-wary guests might not be too keen on anything pumpkin-flavored (aside from pie).  So I’m going to make Cookie Dough Babies instead :) :)

cd1

Maybe I’ll be brave and throw some pumpkin into the mix for Pumpkin Cookie Dough Babies

We’ll see.

Watch out, Mommy: Here I come!

*Storms the kitchen, fudge baby-making supplies in hand*

.

.

.

Molly and Henry want to wish you all a Happy Thanksgiving!

(Please ignore the shamrock sock in the background :-? )

z 250

(They like to hang around in the kitchen too.  Wonder why…)

So what are all my American friends up to on this lovely day-before-Thanksgiving?

And what are all my fellow vegetarians eating?  I need inspiration :)

I say I like people in the kitchen with me, but when they do help I just get irritated because I like the way I do things : ) I guess that is why I am a chef. haha but I do like teaching others to cook, so I go back in forth with help in the kitchen. As far as what I am eating a Thanksgiving there will be a lot of veggies and pumpkin pie (all vegan of course), oh and some chocolate I am sure!

Today is food prep day for me :) I’m making Thanksgiving dinner this year so everything is vegan-friendly (dream come true!!!) :) We’ll have… hummus & veggies, pumpkin dip with apples and graham crackers, garlic mashed potatoes, roasted root veggies, massaged kale salad, roasted garlic bread, whole wheat stuffing, baked beans, pumpkin pie and a cranberry walnut tart. Phew… good thing I love cooking!

I lOVe cooking and I like it when others join me. My friends and I have cooking and baking nights when we get together. :)

I’m not American, but my favourite think to make for Canadian Thanksgiving is veggie Haggis! Even non-veggies love it. Roasted root veggies are another favourite, as are barley or wheatberry salad, ginger-garlic broccoli, and cranberry pudding.

Mmm…

And I’ll admit I’m a kitchen hog. I’m trying to get better though because my hubby wants to learn how to cook too and the only way he’ll learn is if I let him in the kitchen :)

i dont really care about the others in the kitchen, but if its somebody i dont really like it might make me angry which will make the food tasting bad.
cute dogs! i have no pets, my mother will never let me adopt some.
here in my country we dont celebrate thanksgiving, only christmas. but for christmas there’s like a month! im not sure what im gonna make. i’m thinking of making a vegan cheese (i have never tasted it, and theres no vegan cheese for sale here), but my mother won’t really let me do it. i really need to check my christmas (food) list :)

Whenever anyone asks me “Can I help?” in the kitchen, I usually ask them to pour me a glass of wine :) There are very few people I like in my kitchen space when I’m busy cooking. However a little help with prep can go a long way, as can setting the table! Luckily my boyfriend is my kitchen guardian angel and we work miraculously well together!

my dad is notorious for creeping around while I’m trying to make something. Normally I wouldn’t mind, until he proceeds to say “what the hell is that that your cooking?” normal people just don’t understand bloggie’s superior palates ;)

We are making a sweet potato casserole so I will be eating that and hoping that other dishes may be vegetarian. We are going somewhere so I plan on eating a little before I go so I am not starving there is there is nothing I can eat.

The kitchen is my area. Specifically the stove/oven…. but I LOVE company to talk to, just not to help… Weird, huh? That and my kitchen is quite tiny, so the more=not the merrier.

Today I plan on chopping things up and doing all the preparations I can! And cleaning/decorating the house :)

I kind of control the kitchen..ahha…I LOVE cooking with my mom though. Its so much fun and shes my inspiration. Luckily my husband doesnt like to cook so I usually have the kitchen to myself. This year its going to be a little thanksgiving. Just me and my husband. We cant go see family this year=( But its ok…I plan on making all our favorites and having a nice quiet chill holiday. =)

I don’t like to share my kitchen space either! Luckily, most people who say they’re going to “help” me cook quickly move out of the way when they see I’m willing to do all the work.

Happy Thanksgiving CCV!

My mom is threatening me under pain of death if I make a mess in the kitchen. I am a messy chef so I am BANNED!

Ugh I have no idea! As the only vegan it’s going to be whatever doesn’t use the kitchen because there won’t be room for my food :(

Can’t believe you have a jack too mine also “helps”, but the poodle is even better she hovers and climbs on the counters for food. What a pal *rolls eyes* she did eat some reject waffles though!

I prefer to work alone. It’s nice to have the counter with barstools so people can speak to me on the other side of the kitchen.lol! Sometimes its nice to have helpl chopping, you know prep work.
Today my son is going to help me make pumpkin cheesecake, I’m trying to teach him how to cook.
Have a truly wonderful Thanksgiving with your family.

When I’m cooking the place is such a bombsite because I’m usually doing 8 times at once. I get kind of stressed just looking at it and I know if I could be more organised I wouldn’t injure myself so much or break as many cups/plates/glasses etc. However I always leave the place tidy afterwards so all’s well that ends well (apart from the cut/scrape/burn on my hand and the broken cup/plate/glass in the bin. D’oh!!!!!!)

I’ve got to say, I side with your mom on this debate! I’m very much a solitary chef… I like to do things my way and if I’m forced to cook with someone, I invariably end up delegating in a rather officious manner. But I don’t mind if someone else is merely keeping me company when I cook, as long as she stays away from the food and outta MY way. Hehe. :)

I have to work today at my part-time job, but luckily it’s only for three hours. Then I’m going to come home and make vegan pumpkin pie and a vegan cranberry-orange bread for tomorrow! My aunt just made a vegan roasted yam and apple dish, so the house smells like it’s Thanksgiving already. Mmm!

I’m going to attempt making a Mushroom & Sage Loaf for Thanksgiving! Since we’re having a small dinner tomorrow (with our in-laws) and they’re vegan, it’s actually pretty easy for us to eat everything! ;)

There are some really creative Thanksgiving recipes available here until this Saturday: http://wp.me/pB1yI-6x

(that’s where I got the Mushroom & Sage loaf recipe)

I might have to make some pumpkin fudge babies, too! :D

i am really protective of my kitchen. maybe i’m hypersensitive, but we have friendly gatherings every couple months and people swarm and take over my kitchen! they bring stuff to bake, cook, etc. half the time i can’t even get into my kitchen to put out my snacks! and what’s worse, it’s like cleaning up after 8 cooks in a kitchen!

My dad used to prepare all the food on his own, but since I turned vegan, he asks me to join him and prepare whatever I like. He also veganized most of the dishes, such as mashed potatoes and stuffing. Isn´t that totally cute of him??

My Thanksgiving favorite is simple but delicious- my dad´s green beans with garlic, olive oil and roasted almonds! Yumm!

Hope you´re having a great T-Day!!

I have to admit it – I’m like your mom. Drives me crazy when I’m cooking in the kitchen, and then CD comes in and starts cooking too. There just isn’t enough room. Hey CD, that’s why we need a little remodeling….I really want an island, and some new floors…and a back splash…a double oven would be nice as well. OK, I’ll stop now.

Happy Thanksgiving to you as well Katie!!!

I love having the kitchen to myself when I cook. I always ask my husband to take the kids upstairs or outside. I do love to cook fun things with them – snacks, desserts, etc. for their learning experience and quality time together. But if I’m cooking a meal…I just want to be alone or my brain gets overwhelmed. I’m making (all vegan) Tofurky with roasted root vegetables, stuffing (bagged kind from Whole Foods), green beans almondine, acorn squash filled with couscous, cranberries, walnuts, etc., ciabatta rolls, pumpkin pie, and a couple of dishes from yourveganmom.com – brussel sprouts and rice dish.

I’m actually using your chocolate fudge babies as the base for my raw Chocolate Strawberry pie I’m going to make. So excited! :)

Oh hey…BTW… I just thought I’d let you know (gulp) I put up some pictures of me pre-vegan (5 1/2 weeks ago) and to date to show everyone the craziness of how my body is changing so quickly by going vegan, AND NOT FEELING DEPRIVED, in the slightest! it’s been an awesome ride so far.

I’m planning on taking it easy this year…
stuffing
baked beans (canned or maybe homemade?)
cranberry sauce (homemade – seriously easy)
sweet potatoes, baked
salad (kale, romaine, carrots, etc.)
and if I’m feeling adventurous, I think I’ll try to make a vegan pumpkin pie from Angela over at Oh She Glows. :D

Have a great Thanksgiving!

Sometimes, you just have to sacrifice amazingness for alternate amazingness to satisfy the guests’ palates. *sigh* ;) But isn’t pumpkin pie a normal Thanksgiving dish? Just sneak some pumpkin in there, they’ll never notice… :P I myself went out to buy ingredients for the first pie I’ve ever made. I’m kind of nervous!

I was looking forward to spending my first vegan Thanksgiving at 2 different houses and just pecking through the olives, some separately prepared mashed potatoes, maybe bread and possibly veggie trays and eating mostly when I got home because I didn’t think my mom wanted to prepare anything different than normal. I was so shocked when she told me that she was going to make stuffing from scratch with veggie broth and mashed potatoes with mushroom gravy and a vegan pumpkin pie! I told her that I would attempt the pumpkin pie so she didn’t have to worry about that. 2 years ago I tried to get her to make stuffing from scratch just to rid ourselves of the hydrogenated oil, but she would hear nothing of it. Last year I brought my own home made stuffing and it was darn good. I am sooo excited for Thanksgiving now which is such a relief because I was quite worried before.

Hope your Thanksgiving is wonderful!

I have the same issues trying to serve “healthy” food to my family and friends. Why does healthy have such a bad image?! But usually I trick my friends and family into eating things that are good for them by just making it really delicious :) exactly like fudge babies!
This year I made up a good meatloaf recipe by just putting together a bunch of recipes I found online, and I”m going to make some roasted veggies maybe in a balsamic or wine sauce.
Last year I stuffed mini pumpkins with wild rice stuffing and they were super cute but they weren’t devoured the way I was hoping, squash is a bit too “veggie” and wild rice is not white enough haha.
I’m also considering attempting to make up a cranberry tofu “cheesecake” but I’m afraid of overdoing desserts since we have 30 people coming to my house! There should be no shortage of food lol, I”ll take pics of anything good!

hehe. I am a bit of a kitchen hog myself, especially when my dad and brother look over my shoulder and ask what kind of “vegan crap” I am making :/. I do love cooking with my mom though. She and I work well together. Today I spent the entire day prepping and cooking my contributions. Being the only vegan in the house, I wanted to make a few dishes to contribute that I knew I could eat. I make a homemade tofurkey stuffed with homemade stuffing, veggie gravy, stuffed acorn squash, and homemade bread. Tomorrow I am going to reserve some of the potatoes for mashed potatoes and make mine vegan, and roast some brussel sprouts. I am sooo looking forward to my feast! :D
oh, and I have some cinnamon fudgy babies in the freezer waiting for me after I awake from my food induced coma. ;D

Happy thanksgiving Katie!

Sometimes I don’t mind people in the kitchen, an extra set of hands to roll out some cookies can be fun, but our kitchen is kind of teeny so usually I sho em out out when I need to get down to some serious food-making business!

I’m kind of in love with the pumpkin pie babies idea and will hopefully be whipping some up tomorrow. oh yummmmmmm.

Have an excellent thanksgiving missy, I can’t wait to hear what kind of eats you end up chowing down on!
