Do you remember Y2K?

by Chocolate-Covered Katie on December 31, 2009

Can you believe it was 10 years ago already?!

Remember how people predicted it was the end of the world and stocked up on bottled water and canned goods?

That all seems so silly now…

.

Chocolate-Covered Meal of the Day

I made a hybrid version of a favorite comfort dish: Bug-a-Boo Bulgur Pilaf

 znyc 422

The hybrid version included clean-out-the-fridge veggies, white beans, and wheatberries for the bulgur

… but not these wheatberries! ;)

Also: a spinach salad with dried cranberries (which I decided I don’t really like, so they mainly went untouched).

.

.

Later:

Dessert was glorious:

Sweet, organic raspberries and Raw Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough, in bar form

.

.

.

.

Speaking of bars, don’t forget to enter to win a whole case of my favorite bars.

Question of the Day:

Do you remember what you were up to when we ushered in the new Millennium?  Were you scared? Excited?  I threw a huge sleepover party: Lots of giggling middle-school girls all in one place?  Now that’s something to be scared about!  I remember that the boy I liked called me and told me he liked me too, so it was a pretty awesome night for me.  Ah, middle school drama…

Happy 2010, everyone!!!!!!

I have a feeling 2012 is going to be the millennium all over again. I wasn’t scared then and I won’t be in ’12 either. I hate when people get so crazy!

I was a little scared, but like you had a big party so it was fun. When the ball dropped, I remember thinking the power may go off…lol.

Haha, middle school drama. Love. I remember being relieved when the world did not actually end, but that’s it.

Send me your cranberries! I love those things!

Happy New Year’s Eve! 10 years ago seems like so long ago… I can’t even remember what I did that night… I was a young little thing though, so probably nothing too interesting :D

I was in 6th grade when we rang in the new millenium. All the end of the world hype scared the heck out of me. I guess I had nothing to be scared of!

Happy new year Katie!

Your bulgur pilaf looks like the perfect meal for a cold night.

I can’t remember what I did but I remember a girl who hunkered down with about 10 pounds of dried chickpeas. Guess you’d need gallons of water and a fire source to actually consume them though- not sure if she thought about that :-/ Durrrr.

I think I was a little too young to get caught in the hype of the Y2K… I just remember being so excited that my mom finally let me drink some champagne for the first time. So cooooooool.

Happy New Year’s Eve.. hope it’s filled with chocolate and love :)

OMG – that meal looks AMAZING!!! I think it’s my favorite one yet!

I was already with my husband in 2000 so I wasn’t afraid (I could tell you what we were doing when the clock struck midnite but this is a family blog). He was pretty sure nothing was gonna happen (but we may have had cash and water just in case – New York can get crazy like that).

Have a Happy New Year!!!!!

I think I was in middle school too for Y2K! My dad was a PC systems analyst who knew everything would be ok, but he let me stay up till 1am too see if the world was going to end. Naturally it didn’t, planes didn’t fall out of the sky, atms didn’t start spewing money, so he slipped me the smallest 1/4 glass of champagne when my mom wasn’t looking and told me to go to bed and leave the glass in my top dresser drawer for him to retreive. Awesome dad!

The funny thing is I don’t remember that New Year’s Eve, but I do remember everyone freaking out that the computers were going to crash and the whole world was going to be in chaos. I can’t believe there are kids born now who will someday look at me and think, “Wow she was born in the 1900s!”

I do remember where I was but I would like to forget. I was with my ex at a party in the home of one of his relatives. I have much better NYE plans these days with my husband. Tonight we will stay in and watch movies and eat dinner. Avoid the crazies out there. Happy New Year to you sweetie! Be safe!

Ahaha – I had a similar Y2K experience…I was at a boy’s house who I had a MAJOR crush on, I think I stalked him all night (there were TONS of other people there)…he had a girlfriend at the time, but he kept giving me the eye and then later became my boyfriend all the way until college. Crazyness – but good memories nonetheless. :-)

Happy New Years!

I don’t like dried cranberries usually either! They’re too heavily sweetened…yuck.

My parents sent me, my sister, my cousin, and best friend to wait it out at my grandparents (they went to a party, of course). We drank “kid’s wine” aka sparkling cider and banged up the pots and pans at midnight. Then we had the kids wine taken away because my grandparents were convinced we were drunk.

Hahah oh Y2K. We definitely had a small stash of just in case goods in the basement. Nothing crazy though. I never really believed that would happen! I love your millennium boy story, that’s so cute haha. And definitely so middle school.

Happy New Years Katie!! :)

ahh the millenium! it was spent at my BFF’s house with some ‘boys’ and we drank some alcohol in her basement while her parents were upstairs, we were just so rebellious :)

THere was a health food store a mile or so from our house that sold all kinds of Y2K prep stuff. They didn’t stay open too much longer after the world didn’t end.

I don’t think I stayed up ’til midnight. I never really bought into the whole Y2K thing. I just woke up the next morning glad that the world didn’t end.

Maria December 31, 2009 at 9:47 pm

Haha middle school was full of drama! I was in middle school during y2k as well. Honestly, I didn’t really pay attention to the scare, I was too caught up in my own little 6th grade world. I can’t believe it’s 2010…sigh. Time just flies by like crazy!

Happy NYE, Katie!!!

That whole end-of-the-world madness will probably happen again in 2012. I have no memory of what I was doing 10 years ago. Probably trying to hide under a table while everyone else enjoyed the party. Happy new year! :-)

Millennium… uh, I was pretty young, so I don’t recall thinking it was anything special. It was just another year to me! Boring, right? Raw chocolate chip cookie dough sounds like a pretty good New Year’s Eve dessert to me! ;)

I remember Y2K… my mom is a big worry wart so she was paranoid that something would happen. We couldn’t go anywhere and I missed the fun parties with my friends. Oh well, doesn’t seem like a big deal now!

I’ll eat your dried cranberries. :)

For NYE 2000 I was here in Saudi Arabia, 17 years old, at a friends small party. It was very low key but fun. :-)

I echo what everyone’s saying about 2012 – the people love a good opportunity to act crazy!! On the eve of the Millenium I was walking through the lines of gridlocked traffic in Manchester city centre with my boyfriend (now husband) and bffs, waving to and hugging random people as the fireworks went off in Albert Square. I think we all felt a little bit like rockstars that night! :)

ahah! so fun! I used to love having sleep overs parties! When Y2K came around me and my best friend were suppose to go to this big party but she got super sick so I ditched it so she wouldnt have to ring in the new years alone! We cheered in the new milenium with cough syrup, heating pads and piles of movies! ahha. Still fun although not glamorous.

I wish you and your friends a wonderful, happy and spectacular holidays!! Happy New Years sweetie!! xoxo!
