Tomato-less in Texas (Still)

by Chocolate-Covered Katie on January 14, 2010

Hey guys! Happy Vegan Thursday to ya :) .

.

Remember how Two muffins are better than one?

Well, the same thing goes for sweetheart bloggers!

Therefore, the shout-out of the day goes to two super-sweet girlies:

Jenny and Caroline both made Banana Bread in a Bowl.

bbj

bbh

And they inspired my Vegan Thursday Breakfast

Chocolate-Chip Banana Bread in a Bowl!

.

Basically, I just mixed in—to the regular recipe—some broken-up pieces of the best-ever chocolate.

But y’all know that adding chocolate takes everything to a whole new level, right? ;)

The Banana Bread in a Bowl was no exception.

.

.

.

.

And now for some randomness:

I thought that my fellow Dish-a-Holics would appreciate these photos.

These were supposed to be part of a summer post, but seeing as it’s already January, I think the time for summer recap posts is long-gone.  I *had* to share about this place, though, as it’s so much fun!  If you’re ever in Philadelphia, be sure to hit up the Magic Gardens.  (Bonus: it’s right next to a huge Whole Foods.  Woohoo!)  The Magic Gardens, constructed by mosaicist Isaiah Zagar, give new meaning to the term junk art.  They cover half a city block with tiles, bottles, dishes, sculptures, and other found objects.  Go on a nice day: the mosaic-ed artwork glitters in the sunlight!

It’s unique, ya know?  Not like your everyday museum.  Uniqueness is the best!!

.

Question of the Day:

In what ways are you unique?

When I was in middle school, I went through a phase where I wanted to be as unique as possible.  (My rebellious phase, I guess? LOL)  I chose to play the oboe even though the band instructor told me I’d be a good flautist.  I painted my nails with crazy designs every week.  (Oh wait, I still do that.)

I ate everything with chopsticks.  (Still do that too ;)

Maybe my desire stemmed from having a little sister who wanted to “be just like Katie” and do every single thing I did!  From soccer to ice skating to art lessons to tennis… but I finally flummoxed dear sister when I became a vegetarian!  Poor thing, she didn’t want to follow me there!

.

.

Glad you all liked my joke yesterday.

But c’mon: What’s a girl gotta do to get some tomatoes around here???  The pasta is getting cold! :-? .

Anyway, Happy Thursday (Vegan Thursday or otherwise) to all!  Enjoy it: Do something unique!

LOL you rebel. My family thinks I’m weird b/c I decided not to become a lawyer and I’m a holistic nutritionist instead…haha random. My dad still tells me I’d make a good lawyer and I just roll my eyes.

Oh yes, I went through a rebellious phase too in which I wanted to be as weird as possible. Mostly that meant wearing odd clothes (like my ruffled tuxedo shirt…) and proclaiming my love for weirdness to anyone who would listen. I was very sad that my parents hadn’t given me a more unique name so I could stand out even more. ;)

Okay, if you insist…I’ll throw the first tomato (or two)…Ready for a rant?

Just because it’s Canada does NOT mean it’s cold!!!!!! I live in Vancouver, BC (West Coast, just above WA), and our winters are normally quite mild. Think Seattle. Contrary to popular belief, it isn’t all snow and ice as soon as you cross the border! In fact, we only had a few light snowfalls back in December, and that was it. Lately, it’s been more like mid-fall temps.

Just to clarify: I DON’T ride a dogsled to school, I DON’T wear a toque (woolen hat) year-round (or at all…), I NEVER say “eh” (really!) or “aboot,” and I only speak a little French because we have to learn it in school, when actually we should be learning Mandarin or Punjabi because more people speak those than the latter.

Any other myths I can put to rest while we’re at it? *Hucks giant tomato at Katie*

I’m from a small town so pretty much everything I do is unique here. I’m yet to meet a foodie or fellow blog reader that lives near me!!!
Happy Vegan Thursday!!!

Katie – it is your unique-ness that makes you such an interesting person.

And no tomatoes from here. In my part of Canada, it does get horribly cold every year. But I like it that way.

Totally forgot about vegan Thursday. Need to remedy that with lunch or dinner. :)

What makes me unique…ha ha, read some of my old blog posts. Purple cauliflower oats anyone??? Yeah, I didn’t think so. ;)

Hi Katie dear! Sorry I have been such a horrible commenter–life sure does catch up with you after you’ve been on vacation for a month! Now hopefully I can get some schedule back into my life. I love that you eat with chopsticks–I won a set awhile back, but never used em!

you’re so cute :) your posts always make me smile!

I’m unique in that I’m left handed, but throw and use scissors with my right hand. I’m double jointed in my fingers. and many more, I’m sure :)

I’ll look that place up next time I’m in Philly. It sounds like fun!

I think my extreme love of college football makes me pretty unique. I’m one of those crazy fans who follows their team across the country, often driving 24+ hours in one weekend, lol…

I am JUST NOW hitting my rebel stage (late bloomer)

it’s fun.
I began doing things WAAAAAAAAAAY before they were cool like yoga (in the 80′s) and knitting (90′s) and people would just stare at me and go?????????

it made me laugh. It’s funny to me know that the things I do are cool. Makes me want to find a new ODD hobby! haha

Love the banana bread in a bowl idea.
I think all of my weird little quirks (wearing mismatched socks) make me unique!

I was totally unique in high school … still am. But back then, I was a self-professed “freak” (that’s what we called ourselves). I wore all black and kept copies of the Communist Manifesto and the works of Jack Kerouac in my painted-up Jansport backpack. People appreciated my unique-ness. And that was cool, but I was always so afraid of blending in. I still don’t like to be viewed as plain or part of the crowd. But I think my beliefs and personality stand out without having to be goth all the time. That being said, I still think I have a unique sense of fashion. :-)

OMG girl! Ive totally been there. Right down on south side! Awesome. That place is so fantastic. I loved looking at all the creative stuff they had going on. Too fun. I love all this bread bowl action going on. Sounds fabulous. Yum!! Ok lets see, in jr. high school i wanted to be like Gwen Stefani, so maybe not unique but i dyed my hair all crazy colors and sported the red lipstick. The full nine yards. hahaha. Oh my. It was fun at the time anyways. ( I still love Gwen though!) Happy Vegan Thursday girl!! xoxoxox!

Cool place that Magic Gardens is!

I think alot of us expressed ourselves in highschool. When I was in highschool it was the new wave/punk scene so I had my hair pretty short and I would use the stiffest gel so it would stick out in the back. My favorite shoes were these red pointy ones with a buckle. My mom said I was buying man shoes and didn’t like it but she let me dress how I wanted. Oh those were some crazy times!

You’re so cute in your shorts, but the fact that you can wear shorts in the middle of January makes me so envious! I’m in fleece sweats here! Send me some warmth!

How cute are you with the dishes. :) And…I went through a similar phase in middle school. I was the weird gymnastics girl that wore shorts in the winter and drew/altered her own clothes. Then again at the end of high school I was the girl with crazy hats and red hair. Normal is boring! I like standing out. ;)

Oh crap – I forgot about VT again and had a chicken sandwich for lunch. I seriously do not know what day it is these days!

I’m unique because I’m a natural blonde who dyes her hair red. I was once told I have no ego. I think it was a compliment, though I probably have a lot more ego now than ever.

Hi Katie! I’ve been following your blog for a while, but I’ve never commented (partially because I’m kind of shy, and partially because I feel bad about not having a blog of my own to share with you — yet!). As a fellow foodie (and Texan), I LOVE your blog and each creative recipe you create! Just wanted to let you know that I successfully completed Vegan Thursday today :) . Keep up the great work with the blog!

I’m unique because I once died my black hair blond…for 3 YEARS! And it didn’t look bad, but it killed my hair. I recently went back to black. And have been getting lots of haircuts to cut out the dead hair. (My poor husband, never knew who he was coming home to, LOL)

Banana bread in a bowl…loving that idea!

Have a great day!

During high school and college we dyed our hair different colors so we could unique, instead of really looking like twins. Though, do not do that anymore so now we are not so unique anymore! :) Lovin the banana bread in a bowl. so cute

Mmm, banana bread in a bowl– delish! The Magic Gardens looks like a cool place, too!

Hmm, unique. Longevity comes to mind. I started playing an instrument when I was 3, so by high school I totally rocked it when others were just learning. I also was the girl who dated the college guy back in HS. I grew my hair out long then chopped it for Locks of Love. And I had to have the snappy one-liner comeback to make a joke even funnier.

I know girl I miss my tomatoes too! I bought some grape ones today… but they just arent the same. And I cant believe your wearing shorts! I dont think my poor legs have seen the sun since august.

Hmm… what makes me unique? Well my name for starters I have never met another michal! I also have a obsession with harry potter and love taking care of my body (which is weird for a teen!)

Happy vegan thursday to you too :)
