Chocolate-Covered Meal of the Day
Cold, winter weather + warm, thick soup = comfort d’jour. So I revived a favorite: Cozy Kuzu Stew
While all you ladies are busy with xantham and guar gums, I haven’t abandoned my old thickening-agent friends:
Kuzu and Agar Agar
The thick kuzu stew did a great job of warming me up.
.
But then I had to go an ruin it with the accompaniment I chose:
Super-chilly, and straight from the Vita-Mix: Dreamy Dark Chocolate-Strawberry Ice Cream
Warm feelings gone. But totally worth it!
.
Changing topics:
Until a few days ago, I’d never even heard of Formspring. I’m still not sure I understand the appeal. (But then again, what’s the appeal of Twitter? I just don’t get it!) And, for me, the whole concept seems a bit redundant.
I mean, if you want to ask me an anonymous personal question, you’ve always been able to do that by leaving a comment on any one of my posts. I don’t require commenters to fill in an email address or even a name.
But because I was curious, and because it only took like a minute to sign up, I now have a Formspring account. So if, for whatever reason, you don’t want to ask a certain question on the blog, there’s now another place to ask. Dunno if I’ll have much time to log on, but at least it exists. Ack! Another technological concept I need to master.

..
Speaking of technology…
Through no fault of its own, my poor camera has bitten the dust. This may or may not be due to the fact that I dropped it on the floor. Jeez, you’d think they’d make these things more durable. One little slip and it’s broken beyond repair? In that case, I’m surprised it even lasted this long (a few years).
So now I have the daunting task of trying to figure out the best camera to buy. Advice needed!!!
What cameras do you all have, and what do you most like about them?
Honestly, I just wish I could get my old one back; I’m comfortable with it, and I know how to work it!
.
And thus ends another CCV post.
Look guys, I got through a whole post without mentioning coconut butter! Aren’t you proud of me?
Oops, wait; now I guess I blew it by bringing it up. Well, I was close! What fun’s a post with no coconut butter anywhoos?
.
Oh, and happy Vegan Thursday!
If you forgot to celebrate, who the heck says you can’t celebrate tomorrow instead
(especially if you’re Catholic and are therefore abstaining from meat on Fridays anyway)?

I have a Nikon D50 which I love love love!
And I just don’t get twitter either, but what do I know.
Yay for vegan Thursday! Droooooooollliiiing over the ice cream picture! Perhaps there’s homemade vegan ice cream in my very near future….
I’d tell you my type of camera but the exposure button somehow popped off while it was in my purse, soooo my camera is crap and you don’t want it.
I have a Twitter acct but I’m still not sure I “get” it either, and FormSpring? Ahhh all these weird social networking websites. I’m too old-fashioned for this stuff.
I’ve never heard of FormSpring either–cool!
I’ve never heard of Form-Spring… I’m so behind!
FormSpring? Another new thing that I need to check out, I guess. I feel so oooooold… I can’t keep up with all this new technology! LOL
I have an Olympus E-500 — I do like it, but admit that I really don’t know how to use it properly, in that I have not yet even come close to mastering all the possibilities.
I also have a Pentax point and shoot that I got free a bunch of years ago. I love its ease of use… but it eats batteries.
I have never heard of Formspring until I just read your post. Now I have to investigate. LOL! Thanx!
I have a Canon Rebel DSLR and love it. It makes taking pictures so easy & they come out really good. It can do way more than I even know how to do with it – I probably should take a class.
Kim
I have an Olympus Stylus 1050 SW which is just a regular digital camera, except it is shock proof and water proof!!! So you can drop it from 5 fine and it’s guaranteed to be fine, and you can take it under water up to I think 10 feet. Taking pictures in the pool is basically awesome.
I have never heard of FormSpring either… but I don’t keep up to date with internet doodads.
Ahhh… that ice cream looks amazing!
I really like the Canon PowerShot cameras – the compact point-and-shoot ones. We have an A1000IS for special events but I keep an A420 in my backpack all the time. I have dropped the latter at least three or four times and sure, it starts making funny noises or comes up with errors afterwards, but give it a week and it magically works fine again. Hey, I’m all for magic cameras.
As for SLRs, they are great, but super expensive to go digital… I’ll stick to my older-than-me SLR film camera thanks.
I have a Panasonic Lumix and I just love it because of its great zoom! 12x and it’s pocket sized
never heard of fromspring- I’m in a digital media course next term so if it come up I’ll let you know what the profs all think.
I haven’t heard of formspring and I’ve never even looked at Twitter. I do have a facebook account, but pretty much everybody does these days!
I have a Canon PowerShot and it takes great pictures. I might upgrade to a newer version soon since mine is 2 years old and has taken a beating (I like to drop mine too, hehe!)
I have a formspring but it’s wired to my e-mail so I don’t have to log in all the time. I don’t really understand twitter either…I don’t think anyone cares if I tweet that I’m watching tv or doing homework?
I have a cannon powershot and I love it! It takes really nice pictures, has a lot of features, but it’s not too complicated to figure out. P.S. You’ve inspired me to make homemade coconut butter
Details to come…
thank goodness i read this post before plopping down to eat breakfast
. i def would have grabbed my yogurt mess, but i’ll have to think up something else! i tried to do “vegan venday” yesterday a la adrien (confessions of a health nut) but forgot! i figure with 2 vegan days a week i’ll be able to remember one. your stew looks so meaty, but it’s NOT
oo sorry about your camera!! and I really need to try agar, but its so expensive! I’m really wary of the gums, they just sound freaky to me, I would rather use agar…I just need to break down and buy it!
i like reading people’s formsprings, but i don’t think i’d make one. the things most people are willing to answer are things they would share on blogs for the most part anyway, so i see your point.
I just bought a Canon SD980 IS and it’s been awesome so far!
Yeah… I guess you´re right.
Everyday will be Vegan Thursday, from now on!
Haha
Brazilian XOXO´s,
Gabriela
yeah, panasonic lumix is grand for everyday use.
but i´m in love with my nikon d60! it is sooooooo amazing and i hardly use photoshop as you can do everything with the kamera itself. super easy and the pics are just gorgeous!
i have a small p&s, the canon sd780is.. its a quick little camera and it takes good macro shots.
Hey! just wondering what the link is to your formspring? I cant seem to find it.
Thanks girl
you are brave with the formspring. I hope hope hope you get only sweet comments honey! Seriously I am not that brave
Camera. I have a sony dsc w200. I got it about 18 mos ago and it was about $300. It has held up and takes good pics, I mean, for my needs but i am always looking for the latest & greatest, LMK what you end up with!!!!
Yikes! I always forget about vegan thursdays – but coincidentally, my thursday has been vegan so far…
I’ve never heard of this “formspring” thing…hmmm. I have a Kodak Easy Share DX7440 and I love it – it’s not too fancy, but still takes good pictures.
I’ve never heard of Formspring. I’m a FaceBook junky myself
Always on it!
I have an ok camera, it takes decent pics, and was on sale for less then $100. It’s a Nikon coolpix. Good luck!
I have the Canon Powershot SX20. It’s basically a pimped out point and shoot with the ability to have it be completely manual. It is pricey but SOOOO worth it! And it isnt nearly as bulky as an SLR.
I have a Panasonic Lumix FZ30….it has manual focus, even though it’s a large “point and shoot”. Can’t afford a DSLR. I’m also looking to get a compact Panasonic…maybe the ZS3 or the LX3.
PS…I found Coconut Butter in a health food store on the way home from our FL trip!!!
I remembered vegan Thursday…for breakfast and MOST of lunch anyway.
Katie, I’m seriously obsessed with the coconut butter. It’s all I want. Poor Mr. Almond.
Off to play with my xanthan and guar gums.
I’ve never heard of Formspring. Does that mean I’m getting old? And I’ve been vegan so far today…
Amy,
Hey Amy!
I didn’t include it because I was using internet explorer when I wrote the post, and for some reason, it won’t let me get to formspring with i.e.
Hopefully this link works for you (I tried it, and it seems to work).
http://www.formspring.me/ChocolateKatie
I’m going to edit my post when I have more time to include the link!
I have a Canon 30D and the same thing happened to me over the weekend! I brought it in to be fixed and they can’t even do it. They have to send it in to Canon for an estimate. Very sad but at least on the bright side I have my back up point and shoot!
Canon Rebel DSLR… woot woot!!
although, i will admit sometimes it’s nice to just have a small point and shoot… so i have a lil sony that is several years old, but still takes great pictures. oh wait, i should say DID take great pictures… until my sister dumped an entire POMtini on it during christmas… poor poor lil sony
i digress!
if you want a big spiffy camera, i’m a Canon person all the way!
if you want a small point and shoot, i think Nikon is the winner…
Bummer about your camera! I love my Canon PowerShot:)
That last line of thought made me LOL, mostly because my mentality today has been “You couldn’t eat meat yesterday, you can’t eat it tomorrow, get your fill today!”
I celebrate vegan eats every Thursday (and other day), but are they ever as cool as yours? Nopers. Maybe when I make it big in law (let’s stop and giggle at that), I can spring for a vegan chef.
I do, however, have some rockin’ chopsticks! Yeah!
Loving vegan Thursday!! Since I made the commitment to be 100% vegetarian this lent I think I’m actually going to end up being vegan most of the time since I don’t eat dairy and have been hearing such awful things about the poor chickies who lay eggs. When you first became vegan did you have any trouble missing foods you used to enjoy?
I have a Canon PowerShot SD1200 IS aka this one: http://reviews.cnet.com/digital-cameras/canon-powershot-sd1200-is/4505-6501_7-33529009.html.
It take really good pictures for a fairly inexpensive digital camera, and it comes in soooo many pretty colors! (I have the orange one!)
cameras…i still haven’t gone digital because thus far the digitals are too much about bells and whistles…i want a digital camera that’s the equivalent of the pentax k1000 but with a digital back
the k1000 was my trusty, totally manual, camera for about 15 years. i upgraded to one with ‘features’ and sold my k1000 and have regretted it ever since.
buy a camera that is intuitive. remember the camera doesn’t take the pictures, you do. most bells and whistles you’ll never use. don’t spend too much. buy from a place that has a good return policy and don’t be afraid to return it if after a week it’s just not a good fit.
good luck
Ummm I have vitamix envy
As for the camera, I’m so clumsy.. I’ve dropped my camera and laptop numerous times..crossing my fingers they won’t break.
I just got a canon s90 and really like it. the last few of my blog posts have pictures taken with it if you’d like to see how it takes pictures. i really like it!
Wow, that “ice cream” is going on my never ending must try list!!!! It looks absolutely decadent, in such a healthy way!!
I don’t know anything about formspring….what is it just for bloggers to manage questions? Well I’m sure you get a lot of those about your great blog so it could help…
