Pea Soup And The Prom

Not together, though. Oh goodness no.

Lunch Munch:

Magic Mushrooms (I didn’t know it was 4/20; I promise!), mache, toast with vegan butter and smashberry jam, and homemade pea soup. Below, more photos, because I have issues with making decisions, and therefore couldn’t decide which to post:

After lunch, my friend and I took her younger sister prom dress-shopping! Considering the prom is this Saturday, it’s really last-minute! But my friend’s sister wasn’t originally planning to go. We had to convince her that she’d regret it later if she skipped out, and that she could have so much fun if she went!

Do you remember your prom?

Did you go? Did you have a good time, or was it a let-down? I went to prom as a freshman and had a lot of fun. But Senior Prom was amazing; one of the best nights of my life! I think what helped me was that I’d heard so many people say their prom didn’t live up to expectations. Therefore, I tried not to build up prom in my head as this magical event. But it turned out to be just that! I had the prettiest dress, a super-sweet date, and fun friends. What more could a girl want?

Oh yeah, really cool prom hair. Haha because that’s what’s important in life, right?

If any of you have your old prom photos, you should totally post them!

I’d love to see!

Awww…prom! That was a long time ago for me, lol. As a sophomore, I went to the senior prom with a really popular jock! I thought I had died and gone to heaven. Of course, he’s my husband now so I look back and laugh at myself. I still have the dress I wore because it was sooo gorgeous. My own proms were fun too, and I’m really glad I went. I have 10-year reunion coming up soon…eek!!

  2. Keri - IEatTrees says

Aww, prom. I went to prom sophomore, junior, and senior year. I think my sophomore year was the best- it was on a cruise ship. I guess the others weren’t that memorable because I don’t remember much other than the dresses… and it wasn’t *that* long ago… haha.

You and your dress are gorgeous!!

  3. vegangal says

katie you are so pretty! i hope that when i go to my prom i can look as pretty too and have a pretty dress like that too i love the sparkles. well i cant post pics of mine because i havent gone yet but soon!

  4. Valerie says

Does your date know how lucky he is to be standing next to such a beautiful girl? 🙂
I never went to my prom, and I DO regret it.

  5. Mary says

Haha 4/20. Are you sure those Magic Mushrooms aren’t REALLY magical?
And I agree with everyone else: you and your dress and your date could just be something out of a princess fairytale!

  6. eatandrun says

I didn’t go to prom, and I’m ok with that. I had a fun night with friends watching movies and eating popcorn instead. No boy drama!

  7. Simply T says

Oh my god, your dress is SO pretty! It reminds me of like Miss America. I don’t know if that many people could pull that off.

My Junior prom was pretty good – I wore a yellow dress – pictured below… not the best picture, but the only one I could find on my computer, hahaha.

My Senior prom was HORRIBLE. I had Mono and my date was kind of a jerk. He got a speeding ticket for driving 100 mph on the highway. People kept congratulating us because they thought we’d just gotten married (I wore a white poofy dress with orange butterflies on the bodice) and when we got to the after party I fell asleep within 5 minutes. Oh well. I made up for it with lots of fun sorority/fraternity formals in college.

Check out the young me at Jr. Prom:

Hi, I’ve been a lurker for a week or so and am really inspired. I’m planning to send you an email soon with all the details :).

Well, I’m fourteen and homeschooling so I don’t think I’ll be going to the prom.

Also- pretty dress! Do you still have it?

  9. jcd says

Wow! That’s about all I can say.

Your lunch. You. That dress. Wow.

I didn’t like our grad dinner/dance/party event. I didn’t have any expectations, but I didn’t enjoy it one bit. Such a downer, I know.

However, the best part of my grad was coming home (early), changing into sweatpants, going for a walk with my then-boyfriend (now husband), and laying in the park on the grass staring up at the stars and talking until 3 AM. Now THAT, was incredibly memorable.

oh my you are gorgeous in that picture wow! i went to 3 proms and 1 was AMAZING. i think everything else during our “senior week” was better than the actual prom though (probably because it included a 4 day trip to disney!).

  11. Marina says

you look amazing, and your dress is beautiful!
We have some kind of prom, when we graduate, so it’s only once. I had the most perfect dress, I remember I never felt so pretty in my life

  12. Jessica says

I loved my prom! I went with the guy I eventually married! So now we have great memories to share with our future kids 🙂

  13. L says

hey katie! could you remind how it was that you used breakfast cereal to make blended grains? i have some that I need to use up and that sounded like a new and interesting way to try!

  14. cookeatburn says

Aww, your hair and dress (and you) are gorgeous! I went to prom my junior year and it wasn’t really anything that special, and senior year my friends and I just decided to go out for a fancy dinner and then watch a movie. Low key but I have to admit I don’t regret it… I was never really a fancy dress/hair person :).

  15. *Andrea* says

i love the multiple shots of the meal..and of course i love seeing meals in general, they’re always so balanced and easy for me as an amateur to recreate 🙂

i miss high school proms so much!! we have a commencement ball soon i’m excited for, but it’s just not the same.

your dress is so unique! sparkly and not the typical poofy prom dress- i love that!! Blue is a gorgeous color on you. your date must have been on cloud9 🙂

  16. Kiersten says

I definitely can’t complain about prom. It was my first date with my boyfriend. He asked me to senior prom, even though we didn’t really know each other or ever talk. No idea why I said yes, but I did and 4 years later we are still together.

I loved my prom dress too! I still do, I wish I had somewhere to wear it again. lol

  17. Michal says

Your dress is GORGEOUS girl! Im actually going to my senior prom next friday and im excited about it… but then im not because a lot of my friends arent going for reasons that are just awful. 🙁 But I will share pictures as soon as it happens!

  18. julzdanceruns says

You look so stunning, I’m majorly loving that dress!

As for my prom, I’m homeschooled, so prom isn’t in my forseeable future. This is my senior year, so I’ll probably conclude highschool without having expirienced a dance 🙁

BUT… the honors program I’ve been accepted to for college hosts a formal, so that’s something to look forward to!

  19. Janna ~ Just Flourishing says

Wow, that is an exciting dress! I could never pull that off, but you totally did 🙂

I loved my prom… and HATED my prom dress. I went with my best guy friend and had the best time. However, I went totally against my normal style and got a poofy prom dress. Not only that, but I tried it on in a light pink color and decided to order it in BRIGHT RED. Bad idea. The light pink would have been poofy, but subtle. But poofy and bright red DO NOT work. Just so ya know 🙂

  20. ohkansascity says

I went to prom three times. My own prom was… bad. I ended up feeling sick half the night. The next year I went with my best friend to her prom and had an absolute blast (my dress only cost $10) and then I went to my ex-boyfriend’s prom the year after, and my best friend went with his best friend so it was kind of perfect. (I wore 3 different dresses each time, which was fun too).

That soup looks amazing. I love split pea soup so much.

  21. foodlovingpolarbear says

You look so pretty in your dress, what a fantastic colour!!!! 🙂

My prom was GREAT. I also had a great dress, hair extensions and a cute boy as a date, good memories 🙂

  22. Rika says

    gorgeous! 😀

I went to prom with a popular one too but I didn’t have much fun until I ditched him and hung out with my own friends! haha!

  23. sagojyou says

Your dress looks amazing! And very…tacky and stylish!! 😀 I love it; do you still have it? And is he your BF or a good friend that’s a boy?

And your lunch looks soooo good! I love mushrooms! 🙂

  24. Chocolate-Covered Katie says

    Sagojyou,
I do still have it! But I’m impatiently waiting for another excuse to wear it…
My date was one of my really good friends, not a boyfriend. So I didn’t have to worry about boy drama. I know people whose bfs dumped them the week before prom! Ugh!! He was awesome… and he loves to dance, so I didn’t have to drag him out there lol.

  25. Lily @ Lily's Health Pad says

That dress is awesome! Too bad for the average non-celeb that prom is really the only reason to wear sequined gowns in one’s lifetime.

  26. theprocessofhealing says

    Your dress is GORGEOUS!!!
Ahh prom.. at the time, it was amazing! I went to my junior prom and Senior prom. And my ex’s senior prom (yeah, he was younger than me.. I seem to have a thing for younger guys?). I hadn’t built them up in my head either and so they exceeded expectations. Now, it kind of brings back sad memories because I have since broken up with said guy buuut at the time, it was awesome. I think everyone should go to prom, at least once!

  27. Lorin says

I tried making your split banana vegan cheescake thing but my blender is NOT a vitamix. I was so bummed, it smelled good but the cashews were still pretty much intact even when the blade was whirling around. Oh well, I can try vegan stuff at health food stores I guess.

  28. Anna says

I love split pea soup!! Are you planning on sharing the recipe or have you in the past and I’m just not in-touch with my blogging!?

  29. Lana says

Unfortunately, we don’t really do proms over here 🙁 that picture is lovely, though! So happy 🙂
I just wanted to let you know that I tried your pizzert recipe, and it was a success! Very yummy, so thank you xxxx

  30. Gaby says

OMG you look incredible!!! I love that dress! I went to 2 proms because the guy I dated all through high school and beginning of college was a year behind me. First year I had a navy blue sparkly dress. Not sure what happened to that one. Second year I had a pale green poofy princess-y dress with embroidered flowers that I actually donated recently to the Fairy Godmother project, which gives prom dresses to girls who can’t afford to go otherwise. It’s pretty cool!

I want to go eat with you, all your meals look so good yet so simple. Exactly how I eat!

And I put up a new post, recap of my first 10k!! And you’re one of the bloggers that inspired me to start running, so thank you Katie! 🙂

  31. Katie says

Gosh, your beautiful, smart, and sweet! The whole package!!!

  32. ruby red says

You are absolutely gorgeous in that prom photo!!! You look like a sparkly mermaid – so beautiful and radiant! Awww. And so happy too – love the genuine smile!
