Garlic Ice Cream & Chocolate-Covered Stork

by Chocolate-Covered Katie on May 27, 2010

Fried eggplant ice cream?  Soy Sauce ice cream? I’m officially scared now.

.

Thanks, Leslie, for sharing the following: Weird Ice Cream Flavors

(There’s even a “noodle” one!) Moving on to more palatable things (especially since it’s so early in the morning!). Guess who got to decorate the cake for my aunt’s recent birthday… DSCN0333

.

The actual cake recipe was the same as this Maple Fudge Cake.

For some reason, that’s become the “go-to” family-favorite cake of my mom, dad, sister, uncle, grandma, aunt… basically everyone except me!  Why on earth they’d rather have a maple birthday dessert than a chocolate one makes no sense to this chocolate-obsessed girlie.

What do you think: maple or chocolate? For me, the answer’s always going to be chocolate. Crazy family! Sometimes I wonder if the stork dropped me off.

stork

Wheeeeeee :)

.Do your family members have any quirks, preferences, or hobbies that sometimes make you wonder: “Am I really related to these people?” Or, is there someone else in your family that you sometimes suspect might’ve been a “stork delivery”? I like to tease my sister and tell her that she is.  But the truth of the matter is that we both look and act so similarly to our parents and other relatives that there’s no doubt we’re related.

p

Mr. Vita-Mix thanks you all for humoring his peanut butter-banana ice cream whim yesterday.

He’d also like to remind everyone that there’s still a full week left to hug a fat (‘cause I won’t get around to finishing the feature post by June 1st). Please let your Vita-Mixes, blenders, dogs, cats, grandmas, and little sisters know that they are welcome to join, too!

I’m making your pb ice cream today! Could you, by any chance, do a post where you explain exactly how to make ice cream in the vita-mix? I’m a new owner, and I followed one in the manual, but it turned out more like ice than ice cream :( .

Chocolate > Maple…for sure. Unless you combine the 2 & then it’s *heaven*

I’ve questioned whether the stork dropped my brother off because we’re a family of brunettes and he has blonde hair!

Chocolate for sure. And yes, I’m 30 and still question if I am adopted. I often wonder, “Who are these strange creatures?” LOL :D

How do you make ice cream in your Vita-Mix? I usually use the food processor for banana soft serve, but I worry about too much air getting in with the Vita-Mix after my smoothie flop yesterday. :(

I would prefer a chocolate birthday dessert to maple. Something about maple just doesn’t scream Birthday Dessert to me. I have a lot of interests that are different than my family. For example, I’m much more interested in healthy eating and exercise. While my parents are perfectly content to do their grocery shopping at Wal-mart, I’m the annoying one who insists on trying health food chains, ethnic markets and produce stands.

Don’t hate me, but I’d choose maple over chocolate too. And wouldn’t Maple Fudge cake also have fudge in it? So it’s the best of both worlds!

Is that a serious question!?!?! Maple’s good, but chocolate is supreme. How are ya’ll related again? Haha.

My family is NUTS but I *know* we’re related because I happen to be nuts too!

I have to go with your family! I LOVE your blog, but I don’t LOVE chocolate. Oh, I do like it, but I’d rather have a big old hunk of maple fudge or strawberry ice cream. LOL please don’t hate me ;) .

The stork in the family is my sister- she’s a (somewhat) natural blonde with blue eyes in a sea of brown hair and brown eyes!

Have you guys heard of Heston Blumenthal in the States? He’s a British chef who is famous for very odd food combinations – bacon and egg ice-cream, snail porridge, parsnip cereal and equally exotic things!

this is a link to the menu at his (very expensive restaurant) – he also has a tv show in which he creates odd and dramatic dishes.

I haven’t been to his restaurant but am dying to go!

I LOVE chocolate but not chocolate cake! I’m actually not a big cake person but I prefer fruity cakes. My favorite is strawberry. :)

Chocolate all the way. Maple sounds more like breakfast food to me.

Definitely chocolate! That cake looks amazing as well – amazing decorations. :D

I’d go with chocolate 90% of the time, but maple might occasionally tempt me! You did a nice job on the cake. :)

Haha I hear you! But luckily, I can drag my dad into WF and leave him in the wine section. Then, when it’s time to go, it’s usually ME that has to drag HIM out!

BTW – I just made (raw vegan) mint chocolate ice cream for the kids I babysit for and topped it with the coconut oil chocolate thingy…they told me they feel sorry for me because I can’t eat ice cream! Haha I’ll show them :)

spoonfulofsugarfree May 27, 2010 at 6:12 pm

Definitely chocolate! Actually, I don’t think I’ve every even had anything with maple before, and when I was little my mom would always use Hungry Jack syrup (so I haven’t even had real maple syrup!) Ah well….

I actually am completely alike my family. My sister is EXACTLY like my dad, and I am EXACTLY like my mom. We have good laughs….

Those ice cream flavors do not sound pleasing to me! haha
I never liked chocolate as a kid but now I love it but the thought of maple cake sounds good!

My brother and cousin used to eat peanut butter and Cheese Whiz sandwiches- yuck!

I sometimes think the stork dropped me off. My mom, dad, and brother are all “nerdy” engineers and I somehow got interested in nutrition. Nobody else in my family is remotely interested in horses and they’re my love. There are some other weird differences- I’d sware the stork brought me if my brother and I didn’t resemble each other so much our younger years. hahaha

my family always asks me where I have come from because my italian family do not have the tamest mouths lol, i love to have fun but im a little more laid back! =)

p.s. i love them both (chocolate/maple), i think it may depend =X

I dunno, my mom made me a spice cake with maple frosting for my birthday for years…so it’s a tough call on the maple vs. chocolate debate!

I think I’m the stork baby of my family. They don’t understand my exercise + healthy food hobbies.

Maple or chocolate?? gahhhh that’s hard. Don’t make me choose…

must hug a fat soon!

Marianne May 28, 2010 at 7:56 am

Chocolate all the way. I’m Canadian, and I think maple is highly overrated. It’s good, but not something I want over chocolate.

Reply

Jo May 28, 2010 at 3:18 pm

breast milk cheese guy????!!!! No – but that creeps me out!

Reply

Quix May 28, 2010 at 9:26 pm

Cute cake! I love garlic – I’m not sure about ice cream but I’d sure try it.

My parents are both very meat and potatoes people. I’m more like “potatoes and veggies with a little meat”. We ate so differently I started making my own food at a young age (though most of it was from boxes or cans) because I wouldn’t eat what they served. I also got pale skin when both of my parents are darker – but I look EXACTLY like them in most other regards so I know I wasn’t delivered. :)
