Where be my Fruit Huggers?

Oh yes, that’s right. It’s:

Hug a Fruit Month!!!!

So let the kiwi kissing, apple adoring, and lemon loving begin!

Me? I love me some honeydew. The fruit, itself, is delish. However, the photo is a bit bland for my tastes…

That’s better, don’tcha think?

Find some yummy fruit, and hug away! Then I’ll include your photos in the “Hug a Fruit” post at the end of July. (If you don’t have a blog, you can send a photo in an email.) Camera shy? Whip up a favorite dish featuring fruit (or try a new fruity recipe), and photograph that instead.

If you need inspiration:

Here’s an extensive alphabetical list of tons of fruits.

Now go make out with your mangoes ASAP!

  1. ahhh YAY! i can’t wait to hug me some fruits. i might as well just go to a farmers market and huge the whole stand :)
you’re so cute with your honeydew by the way!
i’d love to hug me some banana bread. and lucky for me, i’ve got some baked right now… :)

  2. Leslie says:

Ha! Mr. Honeydew is very handsome. And you are stunningly beautiful, so you two make a perfect couple. Sounds weird, but this is meant to be a compliment ;).

  3. Julie says:

I would love to hug a huge mango. I love that fruit but I’m very fond of red fruits too. Actually, I don’t know what I would take if I had to choose because it depends on the seasons. But right now, I would love a huge mango… It is so hot here !

By the way, did you bring with you your vitamix or did you leave it at home ? Your parents brought it to their car or not ? Sorry if you already answered to that question. I’m losing my mind with the warm weather.

I would love to get the vitamix. I’ve been praying for it for two years now, but it is so expensive… :( Lucky you !

    1. Julie,
Sadly I did not bring my Vita-Mix with me. I miss poor Vita-man, but I’ll survive ;). My parents brought the Magic Bullet, which is much smaller. So I still get to have puddings, fudge babies, etc… just not Vita-Mix ice cream. Eh, it’ll taste twice as good when I get back!

  4. Molly says:

I would totally hug me some watermelon. I can eat this stuff until I have a waterbelly baby! It’s so sweet and juicy and loaded with Vitamin C. No wonder I never get sick!
I haven’t had honeydew since I was a little kid, seeing your picture makes me want to go buy some!

  5. Serena says:

Your nails look so cute in that picture! I really want to participate in this one… I did not participatei n Hug-a-Fat ’cause I simply did not have time. We’ll see!

  6. Gabby says:

I am so going to get creative with this!
I missed the fat hug month, but not this time :).
P.S. You are so pretty with the honeydew.

  7. Okay, I’m totally hugging something this go-round. And I love lemons! I think they’re bad for your teeth to eat straight (or so my grandma used to tell me), but I do sometimes. :)

  8. Ilana says:

    YES!! Favorite food ever=fruit!
I’d go hug my black berry bush but it’s a little thorny. Also I think we can cross “Hug-a-Durian” off the list.

  9. VeggieGirl says:

I’d like to hug a kiwi (you know why)

  10. McKella says:

I eat at least one watermelon and two cantaloupes every week during the summer! Melons rule! Not too fond of honeydew though, weird.

  11. Caroline says:

Hehe your melon is so cute!

My mom actually used to eat lemon slices…weird, huh? I’ll take a little juice in my tea or in my raw cheesecake.

I think I’d love to hug some raspberries, as those are my favorite fruit (great, b/c they are so expensive!)…but the poor fragile guys squish a little easily. So maybe a bowl of raspberry banana soft serve with almond butter sauce…that’s been one of my favorite breakfasts recently!

Oh, and a question about your running breakfast routine (cuz I’ll have to start running in the mornings soon as its hot!)…do you eat first breakfast to fill up or just to take the edge off?? I hate running hungry..I feel like I can’t go fast!

    1. Caroline,
I guess I just eat first breakfast because I want to give my body something to fuel my running. I’m not really hungry when I first get up.
It’s usually something small (like I showed in my 3000-calorie post), but enough to do the job :).

  12. Heather says:

Haha….actually my son (8 months) loves lemons. He’s the only one I’ve ever met who does! We gave him one as a joke initially, to see his reaction (we had the camera out and everything!)….and he *liked* it! So now, if we take him to a restaurant, we’ll request a plate of lemons or give him the citrus wedges from our water glasses to keep him occupied.

  13. Melissa says:

Oohhh… expect a pic of me hugging my big 5lb box of bahri dates. LOL.
LOVE those things. And bananas. :)

  14. I want to hug a banana VERY badly. Those beasties are my best friends at the moment 😛
Or dates. And figs. And cantaloupe…hm…too many!

  15. Stefanie says:

There are so many fruits that I would like to hug it is hard to choose. I am liking your nail art of the day and your hug a fruit picture. Have a great day. :)

  16. maxinthegym says:

Oooh I can’t wait to go take a picture with all my mangoes and grapes 😀

  17. After having eaten an entire honeydew yesterday afternoon….I think I’d have to follow in your footsteps at this moment :)

  18. *Andrea* says:

love the nails!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! so pretty and girly. yay! i eat so much fruit it’s not even funny. i will try and hug a pink lady at lunch 😉

  19. Laura says:

oooh, i LOVE fruit!!!! i never get sick of it! there are just SO many different choices and so many ways you can eat it! yum yum! i’ll definitely hug a fruit for ya 😉 xx

  20. Hey now! I LOVE lemons! Well, lemon juice. It is the perfect addition to so many meals, soups, dahls, curries, dips, and salads. I looooove it!

  21. Great idea – Hug a Fruit month! I would say probably bananas or blueberries.

  22. Danielle says:

Girl, keep wearing that bulletproof vest…with all the anon comments 😀

I am *soooooo* hugging a pineapple

  23. Raquel says:

    I also love lemons…for my tea! 😀

  24. Rachel says:

    Hi Katie,

Have you ever considered making a comprehensive chocolate-covered grocery / shopping list and posting it on your website? A list with all the food staples you like to buy / keep your pantry stocked up with… I think it would be neat and helpful and inspirational!

(forgive me if there has already been one posted!)

    1. Rachel,
Ooo sounds like a fun idea! I’m going to make a note to work on it when I get back from vacation (and can look in my pantry to help with the list).

  25. Tori says:

This is kinda hard to choose. Can we hug more than one fruit? Banana/Strawberries……can’t decide!!!!!!

    <3 Tori

    1. Tori,
      Yes!!! The more the… fruitier? :) :)

  26. emily says:

mm the only question is which fruit to hug…. i love summer berries, cantaloupe & honeydew so sweet it’s unbelievable, frozen mango, kiwi, granny smith apples, bananas, & umm pretty much everything. & i think your honeydew’s expression is adorable.

i adore lemon, too. a favorite way to eat leafy romaine (perhaps with slivered carrots as well) is with stevia & loads of lemon juice. my poor teeth. adding fresh strawberries / cherries / whatever to the mix & smashing them up a bit makes it even better (and so pretty, too). it’s like dessert. for those that are okay with eating honey, a dressing with lemon juice, a smidge of olive oil, honey, & cracked pepper is good as well.

  27. Marina says:

Wee!! I can’t wait to hug some fruit. Maybe a watermelon :)

  28. I eat lemon slices with a dash of salt! My friends remind me that only should be done when doing body shots, haha!

I eat a billion pounds of fruit a day, I will be sending a pic over shortly. :)

  29. cookeatburn says:

I want to gather up all my berry friends (can we pretend that cherries are berries too?) and give them a gentle hug so they won’t squish :-P. Really though, <3 fruit.

  30. The question about the lemon reminded me of when I was younger and we went out to eat at Shoneys. I squeezed so much lemon into the water it hurt to drink it…so everytime I took a swig, I’d squinch up and go for the water to relieve the pain..but then it’d just happen again!! Yes, it makes me sound like a ditz, but it’s true! 😛 I can’t wait to start hugging non-pain inducing fruits! 😀

  31. It’s so funny, but my baby brother actually loves lemons. He’s 9 months old and someone gave him a lemon slice at dinner just to see him make a face (nice, I know) and he actually loved it and it didn’t even seem like he thought it was sour. He kept reaching for more!

Personally, my favorite fruit is cherimoya. My fave fruit that I eat more regularly is green apples.

  32. my mom draws faces on the outside of fruit (melons, grapefruit etc) with sharpies!

  33. katie, i will be all over this like a bag of cherries at a summer fair! lol no seriously.. i think i might choose cherries. i’ll get a pic as soon as i can. us hug a fruities are still out there.. maybe we’ve just been enjoying our fruit too much to realize “oh right, i need to take a pic first lol” <3

  34. Yay! I’m so excited for hug a fruit month. I’m camera shy, but I will try to participate by making a fruity dish…maybe I’ll try your fudge babies. I’ve always wanted to. I also love making fruit salads with a coconut milk dressing that could quite possibly be featured. There are endless options…
Love the picture of you and your honeydew! So adorable.

  35. lisasfoods says:

Sounds fun. I saw photos from Hug a Fat, but never tried it myself. I’d probably hug a raspberry or a blueberry, but they’d get squished. Honeydew are much easier to hug.

  36. Rachel says:

yaaaay that you will consider the shopping list! And I’m gona see if I can find a durian to hug. It would be hilarious!

    1. Rachel,
Ohmigosh, please do!! But then don’t eat it afterwards LOL. Well, unless you like durian. Haha I guess *some*one out there must like it!

  37. BroccoliHut says:

I think I might have to embrace a few mangoes….

  38. Julie says:

Thank you for answering Katie. The Magic Bullet seems to be great too and it’s not that expensive – Around 35€ – About the Vita-Mix, which one do you have ? Hope you have a great day !

    1. Julie,
I have the 5200… I think! I’m not sure what the difference is between different models, but I do know that I love mine!

  39. Wahoo! Fruit! I eat it every day:) I LOVE banana ice cream, strawberry and blueberries with almond milk, fresh mango, and smoothies!

  40. Eleanor says:

I always thought black cherries were best but I bought some local yellowish ones this week – and ate the lot!
Also, my neighbours have gone on holiday and asked me to water their garden and actually told me to pick and eat their strawberries – what could I do?? x

    1. Eleanor,
Sheesh, what a difficult task you were left with! Sounds like you might need some help. *hint hint* 😉

  41. Justine says:

Dates arey favourite fruit! They’re versatile and naturally super sweet. What note could you ask for? :)

  42. caronae says:

Oh I am totally a fruit hugger! Yum. I have so many favorites: pear, mango, berries, fresh peaches, crisp apples…I could go on and on! I am definitely going to be participating this month Katie!

  43. Hello! What a fab idea! At the moment I am loving raspberries-
(scroll down for the photo- yes I took a photo!)
    So refreshing in the heat.
I tried a banana one with chocolate too, but have not put the photo on the blog yet!

  44. Love it! I don’t know if I could choose just one but I will think of one for sure! :-)
Check out my blog for my giveaway! :-)

  45. Julie says:

Oh yeah, that’s the one I wanna get… Anyway, I was thinking of buying the Magic Bullet for replacing my food processor, which is broken. But I was wondering if the MB would be enough powerful to grind seeds such as nuts as well as dried fruits. Did you try that already ? I guess you did when we see your raw recipes but I want you to confirm it. I don’t wanna buy something that I won’t use. Promise, that’s my last question for the day ! 😛 Thanks ! xxx

    1. Julie,
No no, I love answering your questions. The Magic Bullet definitely is powerful enough to chop nuts. I make fudge babies in it all the time. It also can shred carrots. (The Magic Bullet to-go isn’t as powerful.) I definitely recommend the MB; I use mine every day :). And if you have a Bed, Bath, Beyond near you, you can download a coupon for 20% off!

  46. Faith says:

Hear Hear for Hug a Fruit Month! I’m in…just let me think up something incredible! Hmmm, the possibilities…

  47. Julie says:

Alright. I was going to buy the Magic Bullet to-go (I didn’t know there were different kinds), but I have no clue what is the Magic Bullet you’re talking about. Is it that one : or the other one : ? Unfortunately, I don’t have a Bed, Bath, Beyond in my country. I would love to. Thank you for answering so quickly Katie :)

  48. Julie says:

Thank you so much Katie. You’re so kind and helpful. If I was in Texas, I definitely would love to meet you up. If you’re flying to Paris someday, let me know !

  49. Krystina says:

I’m pretty much obsessed with bananas and blueberries, so those will get lots of hugs!

  50. Ah I love this!! I absolutely cannot wait. :) Fruit is one of my most favorite things in the whole world. I see some pineapple-huggin’ in my future. :)

  51. emily says:

i guess this relates to fruit hugging, too– i made some chocolate chip cookie dough babies today for the first time! they’re adorable, if i do say so myself. 😉 i don’t even like dates, so was skeptical, but i’ll definitely be making them again & trying the other kinds. a mini (preemie?) one was the perfect post-workout snack. :)

    1. Emily,
Awww I’m so excited you made them!! And even more excited you liked them! :)

  52. My new papaya smoothie recipe is SO GOOD! I just posted it a few minutes ago. 😀

  53. Amanda says:

I’m counting avocado as a fruit – so that is who I’d like to hug!

  54. Eleanor says:

I’m such a good neighbour *sigh* and I’ll put some strawberries in the post to you… look out for a red, damp airmail envelope…!

    1. Eleanor,
      Score!! :)
*Takes out envelope carefully, so as to not get hands messy*

  55. I can’t wait to hug a fruit!

Yes, some people do really love lemons a lot. I know this because my best friend has a tattoo of a lemon on her foot, just because she went to Italy and fell in love with the lemons!

  56. joy says:

I do love lemons – I like to just eat them plain (always have) but my mother used to tell me the acid would eat my teeth

  57. I hugged a load of fruit on my blog here:
Fruit is just delicious and when it is hot it is perfect

  58. Jessica says:

    I hugged my blueberries here:

On another note, my husband actually does love lemons. He eats them whole, like an orange – I don’t know how he does it!
