Where be my Fruit Huggers?

by Chocolate-Covered Katie on July 2, 2010

.

.

Thank you for the (mostly) sweet comments on the Exercising post.

And now, it’s time to be silly…

.

Oh yes, that’s right. It’s:

Hug a Fruit Month!!!!

.

So let the kiwi kissing, apple adoring, and lemon loving begin!

(Does anyone actually love lemons: the fruit, not lemon cookies or Lemon Cloud pie?)

honeydew1

Me? I love me some honeydew :) .

The fruit, itself, is delish. However, the photo is a bit bland for my tastes…

.

honeydew2

That’s better, don’tcha think?

(I didn’t know it when I took the picture, but this honeydew turned out to be one of the sweetest melons I’ve ever eaten!)

.

.

“Hug a Fruit” Rules are like those of Hug a Fat:

Find some yummy fruit, and hug away! Then blog about Hug-a-Fruit month, send me a link, and I’ll include your photos in the “Hug a Fruit” post at the end of July.

(If you don’t have a blog, you can send a photo in an email.)

.

Camera shy?

Whip up a favorite dish featuring fruit (or try a new fruity recipe), and photograph that instead.

*Hint hint* Fudge babies have fruit ;)

nail

So does All-Fruit ice cream

(Above, with the matching nail art of the day)

.

.

And if you need fruity inspiration:

Here’s an extensive alphabetical list of tons of fruits :) .

Now go make out with your mangoes ASAP!

.

you’re so cute with your honeydew by the way!
i’d love to hug me some banana bread. and lucky for me, i’ve got some baked right now… :)

Ha! Mr. Honeydew is very handsome. And you are stunningly beautiful, so you two make a perfect couple. Sounds weird, but this is meant to be a compliment ;) .

I would love to hug a huge mango. I love that fruit but I’m very fond of red fruits too. Actually, I don’t know what I would take if I had to choose because it depends on the seasons. But right now, I would love a huge mango… It is so hot here !

By the way, did you bring with you your vitamix or did you leave it at home ? Your parents brought it to their car or not ? Sorry if you already answered to that question. I’m losing my mind with the warm weather.

I would love to get the vitamix. I’ve been praying for it for two years now, but it is so expensive… :( Lucky you !

Julie,
Sadly I did not bring my Vita-Mix with me. I miss poor Vita-man, but I’ll survive ;) . My parents brought the Magic Bullet, which is much smaller. So I still get to have puddings, fudge babies, etc… just not Vita-Mix ice cream. Eh, it’ll taste twice as good when I get back!

Reply

Molly July 2, 2010 at 2:07 pm

I would totally hug me some watermelon. I can eat this stuff until I have a waterbelly baby! It’s so sweet and juicy and loaded with Vitamin C. No wonder I never get sick!
I haven’t had honeydew since I was a little kid, seeing your picture makes me want to go buy some!

Reply

Serena July 2, 2010 at 2:08 pm

Your nails look so cute in that picture! I really want to participate in this one… I did not participatei n Hug-a-Fat ’cause I simply did not have time. We’ll see!

I am so going to get creative with this!
I missed the fat hug month, but not this time :) .
P.S. You are so pretty with the honeydew.

Okay, I’m totally hugging something this go-round. And I love lemons! I think they’re bad for your teeth to eat straight (or so my grandma used to tell me), but I do sometimes. :)

YES!! Favorite food ever=fruit!
I’d go hug my black berry bush but it’s a little thorny. Also I think we can cross “Hug-a-Durian” off the list.

Reply

VeggieGirl July 2, 2010 at 2:26 pm

I’d like to hug a kiwi (you know why)

Reply

McKella July 2, 2010 at 2:41 pm

I eat at least one watermelon and two cantaloupes every week during the summer! Melons rule! Not too fond of honeydew though, weird.

Reply

Caroline July 2, 2010 at 2:51 pm

Hehe your melon is so cute!

My mom actually used to eat lemon slices…weird, huh? I’ll take a little juice in my tea or in my raw cheesecake.

I think I’d love to hug some raspberries, as those are my favorite fruit (great, b/c they are so expensive!)…but the poor fragile guys squish a little easily. So maybe a bowl of raspberry banana soft serve with almond butter sauce…that’s been one of my favorite breakfasts recently!

Oh, and a question about your running breakfast routine (cuz I’ll have to start running in the mornings soon as its hot!)…do you eat first breakfast to fill up or just to take the edge off?? I hate running hungry..I feel like I can’t go fast!

Reply

Chocolate-Covered Katie July 2, 2010 at 8:53 pm

Caroline,
I guess I just eat first breakfast because I want to give my body something to fuel my running. I’m not really hungry when I first get up.
It’s usually something small (like I showed in my 3000-calorie post), but enough to do the job :) .

Reply

Heather July 2, 2010 at 2:53 pm

Haha….actually my son (8 months) loves lemons. He’s the only one I’ve ever met who does! We gave him one as a joke initially, to see his reaction (we had the camera out and everything!)….and he *liked* it! So now, if we take him to a restaurant, we’ll request a plate of lemons or give him the citrus wedges from our water glasses to keep him occupied.

Hi Katie,

Have you ever considered making a comprehensive chocolate-covered grocery / shopping list and posting it on your website? A list with all the food staples you like to buy / keep your pantry stocked up with… I think it would be neat and helpful and inspirational!

(forgive me if there has already been one posted!)

Reply

Chocolate-Covered Katie July 2, 2010 at 8:56 pm

Rachel,
Ooo sounds like a fun idea! I’m going to make a note to work on it when I get back from vacation (and can look in my pantry to help with the list).

Reply

Tori July 2, 2010 at 7:36 pm

This is kinda hard to choose. Can we hug more than one fruit? Banana/Strawberries……can’t decide!!!!!!

<3 Tori

Tori,
Yes!!! The more the… fruitier? :) :)

Reply

emily July 2, 2010 at 7:46 pm

mm the only question is which fruit to hug…. i love summer berries, cantaloupe & honeydew so sweet it’s unbelievable, frozen mango, kiwi, granny smith apples, bananas, & umm pretty much everything. & i think your honeydew’s expression is adorable.

i adore lemon, too. a favorite way to eat leafy romaine (perhaps with slivered carrots as well) is with stevia & loads of lemon juice. my poor teeth. adding fresh strawberries / cherries / whatever to the mix & smashing them up a bit makes it even better (and so pretty, too). it’s like dessert. for those that are okay with eating honey, a dressing with lemon juice, a smidge of olive oil, honey, & cracked pepper is good as well.

Reply

Kat (MyFruityLife) July 2, 2010 at 7:49 pm

I eat lemon slices with a dash of salt! My friends remind me that only should be done when doing body shots, haha!

I eat a billion pounds of fruit a day, I will be sending a pic over shortly. :)

Reply

cookeatburn July 2, 2010 at 8:10 pm

I want to gather up all my berry friends (can we pretend that cherries are berries too?) and give them a gentle hug so they won’t squish :-P . Really though, <3 fruit.

Reply

Mary @ Bites and Bliss July 2, 2010 at 8:31 pm

The question about the lemon reminded me of when I was younger and we went out to eat at Shoneys. I squeezed so much lemon into the water it hurt to drink it…so everytime I took a swig, I’d squinch up and go for the water to relieve the pain..but then it’d just happen again!! Yes, it makes me sound like a ditz, but it’s true! :P I can’t wait to start hugging non-pain inducing fruits! :D

Erika @ Health and Happiness in LA July 2, 2010 at 8:47 pm

It’s so funny, but my baby brother actually loves lemons. He’s 9 months old and someone gave him a lemon slice at dinner just to see him make a face (nice, I know) and he actually loved it and it didn’t even seem like he thought it was sour. He kept reaching for more!

Personally, my favorite fruit is cherimoya. My fave fruit that I eat more regularly is green apples.

Love the picture of you and your honeydew! So adorable.

lisasfoods July 2, 2010 at 11:17 pm

Sounds fun. I saw photos from Hug a Fat, but never tried it myself. I’d probably hug a raspberry or a blueberry, but they’d get squished. Honeydew are much easier to hug.

Oh yeah, that’s the one I wanna get… Anyway, I was thinking of buying the Magic Bullet for replacing my food processor, which is broken. But I was wondering if the MB would be enough powerful to grind seeds such as nuts as well as dried fruits. Did you try that already ? I guess you did when we see your raw recipes but I want you to confirm it. I don’t wanna buy something that I won’t use. Promise, that’s my last question for the day ! :P Thanks ! xxx

Reply

Chocolate-Covered Katie July 3, 2010 at 8:12 pm

Julie,
No no, I love answering your questions. The Magic Bullet definitely is powerful enough to chop nuts. I make fudge babies in it all the time. It also can shred carrots. (The Magic Bullet to-go isn’t as powerful.) I definitely recommend the MB; I use mine every day :) . And if you have a Bed, Bath, Beyond near you, you can download a coupon for 20% off!

Alright. I was going to buy the Magic Bullet to-go (I didn’t know there were different kinds), but I have no clue what is the Magic Bullet you’re talking about. Is it that one : http://www.valsedesprix.com/magic-bullet.htm or the other one : http://www.m6boutique.com/produit.asp?productid=217000000000CDUA&unv=1 ? Unfortunately, I don’t have a Bed, Bath, Beyond in my country. I would love to. Thank you for answering so quickly Katie :)
