I feel so Loved!

I’ve met SO MANY amazing people thanks to blogging. I’m sure most of you feel the same way. Some of y’all are more like me than anyone I know in the real world. It’s sad to think that, even just a few years ago, people could go through their entire lives with no way to connect to others who had similar interests (or even to know such others existed). Imagine going through life thinking you were the only crazy person who got excited over pretty food, over a new nut butter, or over a trip to the grocery store. Ah, but thanks to the powers of the internet, I know I’m not crazy… or at least I’m not the only one! And, a few days ago, I received a very special gift from one such online friend.

.

This gift was an early birthday present from Caitlin, a super sweetie:

bdaypres

Above, a card filled with such kind words, and raw cookie dough bites!

.

In the card (she said I could share):

Hi Katie, I hope you have the most delicious birthday anyone’s ever had. I know we’ve never met, but you put so much love into your blog that I feel like we’re best friends. Maybe it’s wishful thinking. Your blog gives me so much happiness every day when I log on and see another sweet post from you that I wanted to return the favor. I know you make fudge babies a lot, but I’m betting no one has ever made them for you! So today, I am! And of course I’ve made a chocolate variety, with the darkest chocolate I could find, Ghirardelli 100%, as the chips. Ingredients: dates, cashews, salt, and chocolate.

Hope you enjoy these raw cookie dough bites. They’re my faves!

Caitlin, how on earth can I ever thank you?? Your gift was so sweet (literally!). And I think I’ll use 100% chocolate in all my chocolate chip cookie dough babies from now on!

.

Question of the Day:

Do you ever think about how strange it is that some of the people you’ve never met in person happen to be your best friends who are most like you?

And miss Caitlin, I would totally love to be best friends with you. Come on over; I’ll save you a piece of raw Carrot Cake! 😉

Hi my adorable little Katie! What a fabulous birthday present!
I believe everyone is a stranger until you meet them, the internet just presents us with new ways to meet people! And there are people like you and Averie who I really can’t wait for the day I finally get to meet them in real life!
I do sometimes think it’s weird that I don’t really frequently talk about my blog in real life but I share some very personal details on my blog for strangers to read … life is strange!!

  2. Angela says

    Happy Birthday!

I’ve gotten so used to having blogger friends that its not weird to me, but it is to others. They need to get over it though, I have more in common with a lot of the girls (and guys) in the blog world than I do with my sorority sisters. Not to mention, there is so much support and love. I love the community I’ve become a part of through blogging.

Katie – youre really awesome!!! And those cookie dough bites look scrumptious!! I’ve never posted a comment on your site but I love your recipes and read your stories all of the time!! My situation at home is the same – where the rest of my family are omnivores etc etc. and a lot of people don’t understand why I’m a vegan – which, over time, has made me a lot of the person I am today. So youre right that, sometimes we connect more with strangers than we do to the people who are closest to us. Anyways, I lived in London for a while and found the best chocolate in the world there!!! You can buy it online so check out this site!!! It’s expensive but I guarantee that you will never taste better chocolate!!! http://www.consciouschocolate.co.uk/index.php If youre going to buy some, fruit fantasy is delicious and a lot of the other ones containing berries!!!

    • Chocolate-Covered Katie says

Awww, YOU are awesome too, just for the fact that you took the time to leave such a sweet comment… and send me a link having to do with chocolate. ‘Cause let’s face it, chocolate links are the best kind. I’m off to click now :).

P.S. I used to live in London too… but I don’t remember. I left when I was a baby hehe.

  4. Faith says

I can’t wait to meet so many of my bloggie friends – there’s really such a sweet spirit in the community and I’d be lucky to know you ladies in “real life” as well as over the internet!

  5. Caitlin says

Oh wow oh wow oh wow! I can’t believe that my name is actually in one of your posts. Do you realize how much this means to me? Thank you so much, Katie! And I hope you do try Ghiradelli 100% chocolate bars. I’m sure a dark chocolate lover like you will love them! You deserve all the happiness on your birthday and every day :).
And thank you to everyone else who’s left such a nice comment about me. These comments, and even being mentioned in Katie’s post, have just made me so happy!

  6. Katie says

Caitlin is a super doll! How sweet!!

Katie you are truly an amazing, beautiful, and big hearted girl! I am so glad we became friends through blogs, you are just one of the true sweet people, not many peeps like you, and I love ya! When is your actual birthdate?!!! xoxo

  7. Stef says

    Hey,
even though i just occasionally comment on your blog I feel like I know you better than some of my closest friends 😉 Even though I am an omnivore and not vegan like you I love trying out your recipes!
I always find it so sweet that some of the bloggers like Caitlin send other bloggers stuffs! And this card is really awesomely thoughtful.
So if you ever neew anything from Germany just shoot me an e-mail 😉
    Stef

  8. Brian Woz says

The cynic in me wonders if you should really be eating something a total stranger sent you in the mail.. You’re way more trusting than I, my lovely.

Great blog! I read it everyday.

    Fellow runner, vegan and blogger,
    Brian.

that must make you feel so good…that was completely thoughtful of that person 🙂
genuine kindness is so much appreciated.

“strangers are friends we haven’t made yet”

    have a great day.

  11. Rachel (tea and chocolate) says

I love love this blogging community too. It’s what keeps me blogging and what made me start in the first place. I too know no one in real life who shares similar in interests in healthy living, and so being able to “meet” and chat with people who have similar interests makes me so happy. I really think the Internet is redefining what a community is.

  12. Mary @ Bites and Bliss says

I think ti’s incredible that people we’ve never met in person know *so* much about us..and we know so much about them, too it’s like we’re all best friends! I can’t wait to meet some of them in real life some day 🙂

  13. Foodie (Fab and Delicious Food) says

Awww, that card is so sweet! And those cookie dough bites look amazing!

I love the food blogging world! I think it’s awesome how we can all relate to each other so much and how supportive the community is of everyone!

  14. Laura says

I met my best friend online! See her every month now despite the fact she lives 6 hours on a train away! Could not thank the internet enough! xx

  15. Jenny says

Aww wow! What a generous and kind girl, that Caitlin. 🙂 It’s nice to see someone giving back to you, when you give us so much by posting frequently to brighten our days with your optimism and brilliant positivity… and by sharing recipes to make all our lives more delicious (and chocolatey ;)).

Three cheers for Caitlin, I say, and three more for our favourite chocolate-covered vegan Katie! 😀

  16. Vanilla says

Awwww so sweet!! Caitlin you’re a doll!

This post made me want to whip up a batch of Babies…I just have to choose which one to make 😀

  17. hmcclees says

Katie, I want to say too how much I love your blog as I’ve told you many, many times. Your creativity, love for food and chocolate and quirky food, is so much like me. I just ordered some new food this week online and was thrilled. No one else I know besides my fellow bloggers feels that way. My mom thinks I’m nuts! Maybe I am but at least I’m a happy nut:) and a chocolate covered one:) lol

You also inspired me to start running again. I have always walked but after reading your blog several months ago, I started attempted running again. I can proudly say that my entire 45 minutes I’m almost completely running now. I still have to walk every now and then but I feel fantastic. Running helped me overcome depression several years ago and just want to say, it felt great to feel the rush again.

I have raw cookie dough every morning for breakfast! It keeps me energized and happy! The ingredients: Black Mission organic figs, ( spectacular compared to dates), almonds, walnuts, shredded coconut, and of course, chopped 100% chocolate. YUM:)

Thanks again for all you do and HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU ( Belated ):)

Oh Heather, thank you so much for such kind words. Do you know how amazing you are for your kindness to me? Do you know how much it means to me???? Gosh I hope so!!

      Love,
      your fellow cookie-dough-loving friend,
      Katie

    Hi Katie,

Just a suggestion from a long time fan of the blog….

Have you considered updating your camera?
I recently splurged on a nice camera and a decent lens; its changed the way I take pictures!
You could really take your blog to the next level!

    • Melissa says

Are you serious? I think Katie’s photos are gorgeous already. I can’t see how they could get much more vibrant. In fact, that’s actually what I thought when I first saw the photo in today’s post: Wow, that’s a bright and inviting photo!

  19. BroccoliHut says

I can’t get over how much our posting seems to coincide–we blog about the same topics! I guess that’s pretty strange, considering we’ve never met:)

  20. Melissa says

That was so sweet of Caitlin! The cookie dough babies look beautiful. But I’m not sure how they could ever look unattractive, because only good things can be associated with something so delicious. 😉

  21. ecogrrl says

absolutely – i’ve been so thankful for this community of blog sistaz 🙂 (and a few boyz too) and hope someday i can meet every single one…in fact going to be meeting one this fall 🙂

  22. Emma says

That’s so cool! I love reading about how there are actual Vegans out there. Its not just me and some crazy people on the internet 🙂

  23. Lorin says

Aw that was cute. I was wondering, when you were in college as a freshman and had a passion for food, did you meet people like you, or where you the black sheep of the students. I’m going to college this fall and I feel like people are going to think I’m weird with my vegetariansim and my love for talking about food (mostly peanut butter).

    • Chocolate-Covered Katie says

Hehehe my college friendies teased me (in a nice way, of course). Yes, yes they thought I was weird, but in a good way. Does that make sens at all? People with quirks are much more fun/interesting to hang out with than people who are exactly the same as everyone else! 😉 Otherwise life gets really boring!
They bought me foodie-themed gifts and were constantly asking to try my creations.

  24. caronae says

While I have always had close, deep friendships and felt loved, I have connected with people through blogging in a way I never have before (or haven’t in a while). It’s just like these people know me more, somehow, even though we have never met (although I have a few close blog friends who I have had the pleasure of meeting; we always have an awesome time together). Somehow the written word and the intimacy of blog posts just draws me into people. My mom thinks it’s weird, but I think it is wonderful and fun and healthy to develop close friendships through blogging. 🙂

  25. Song says

Wow that’s the sweetest thing ever!!
    I
Just started blogging but have been reading yours and many others for a while and they all fill my mind, soul and body with recipes and stories.
    Soooo nice meeting you Katie!!

  26. neonflamingosandwhitepeacocks says

Hey Katie! I just did a shout out to your genius breakfast pizzert recipe! I had to tweak it a little, b/c that´s just the way I roll 😉 This brekkie totally made my day 🙂 thanks so much for inspiring me once again!
    <3 <3 <3

Hope you enjoy a lovely weekend!
    xoxo Mel

  27. Lucy says

Yes the internet is such a wonderful resource. It can be use for so much good, but unfortunately it can be used for a lot of terrible things too. But we will focus on the good things like yummy food by Katie! I have yet to try the cookie dough bites, but someday I will. Wouldn’t it be fun for us to all get together and have a big vegan feast?! Anyways, you seem like a very genuine person who really cares about people. I can tell you have a very likeable, fun personality and thanks for blogging and sharing all your recipes and stories!

    • Chocolate-Covered Katie says

Wow, thank you so much, Lucy!
And I think your idea pretty much sounds like the most-fun idea EVER!! I wish I knew more vegans in the “real” world. Thank goodness for this blogworld; before finding it, I sometimes felt like I was the only one!

  28. Lindsey says

    That’s the sweetest!

I’m so sorry that I’ve not commented in forever. I got a new job that’s been taking up all of my time. I miss your blogs sooooo much. You’re awesome, Katie!

  29. kristensweetly says

Katie, I think it is strange. And so awesome. I’m new to this blogging world, but I’m just wrapping my head around what you said – that the people I’ve been reading and talking to are so similar to me. It’s amazing to me that we can all connect in this way. Aside from all of you, people I’m close to still think my passion for certain aspects of food are weird! I like knowing that there’s an entire army of ladies out there with cameras in hand, snapping away before they’re even chewing! (I got some giggles today, but a lot of sweet encouragement, too, after going vocal about my starting a blog.)
