Ok, enough with the Thanksgiving-themed posts already!

I promise that, after this week, I’ll lay off the pumpkin recipes for awhile. But for now, a lot of you have requested a Thanksgiving-recipe round-up. (Maybe because you’ve seen other bloggers doing similar round-ups?) So here goes:

Of course, while I drag out the holiday, there are others who completely ignore it altogether:

  • Radio stations that are already playing Christmas music (It’s never too early for Christmas music!)
  • Our neighbors, who put up lights the day after Halloween
  • Stores that don’t set up a Thanksgiving display, going straight to Christmas

.

Do you get into the Christmas season early?

Or do you think October 31st is too darn early to start playing Christmas music? And are you tired of pumpkin recipes? Or do you think: The more pumpkin the better!

I love Christmas music — Oct 31st is not too early for me. But, when I worked in a retail store I remember hating Christmas music because I would hear it all day, every day.

Pumpkin? I could never have enough. I cannot wait to have some pie tomorrow!!!

    Have a good holiday Katie!

    • Carie says

This is a really late reply, so I don’t know if you’ll see it, but how else would you hold a spoon? I hold mine the same way and I’ve never eaten with chopsticks.

    • Psyckoprincess says

Oh I hear ya on this! I’m in San Diego and last month it was 110! Ugh.. but thanksfully this week it has started getting quite cold, it’s so nice! 🙂 Does make it hard to feel wintery and festive when it’s so hot lol..

  2. purplebirdblog says

I hate that the awesome fall holiday that is Thanksgiving gets overshadowed by Christmas… Thanksgiving is my favorite day of the whole year! 🙂 And I can never get enough pumpkin things… ever!! 😀

  3. Psyckoprincess says

Hey Katie! I wondered on a post awhile back with pea soup, but now I see chopsticks in the stew pic too – how do you eat soup with them?? I love chopsticks! I’ve already started teachin the wee man to use ’em and he thinks they’re so fun 😉 But soup? You just use em to get the big bits and drink the rest? lol 😉 And omg your food all looks SO good! I want kabocha bowl and candy veggies! 🙂 Yay!

You can never have enough pumpkin! Love the recipe roundup, even if our Thanksgiving was before Hallowe’en.

Up here it’s very Christmasy early in the season. Everoyne puts up lights in early November, before it’s too cold to do so. Pplus, the sun sets at 4:20 PM and sunrise at 8:20 AM (and the days are getting shorter) so lights are welcome as early as you get them up. As for Christmas music, none of the stations here start playing it until 01 December, but then it’s Christmas music non-stop, and that’s just enough for me.

    Happy (early) American Thanksgiving!

With pumpkin, the more- the merrier! I don’t usually get into Christmas until Christmas. :/ As you know, it never feels like winter in Texas.

  6. Gloria says

It is way too early for Christmas music. Give me 48 hours, then I’ll be ready. All it does is stress me out because I don’t even have all my Thanksgiving cooking done yet and people are talking about what they are making for Christmas. One holiday at a time, people!

And today was the first day I didn’t wake up craving pumpkin, but I think that’s only because I know i’m gonna be stuffed with squash tomorrow 🙂 Keep the pumpkin comin!

  7. Alisa Cooks says

Never to many Thanksgiving ideas! But I must admit, I always feel bad for Canadians as we totally forget their Thanksgiving is in October and then bombard them with recipes after their big event has passed. Oh well, it’s all the holiday season!

Those candied veggies look SO good.

I really do wish it could be christmas everyday! i dont celebrate thanksgiving, but if i did, im sure i wouldve been prepping for it straight after halloween! ive got my xmas music on my ipod, ive made my xmas lists, i checked them twice 🙂 and i cant wait for the xmas spirit to really kick in!!! i wish pumpkin was a bigger deal here than it is!! xx

  9. Christina says

I secretly resent people who start to celebrate Christmas before Thanksgiving…it shouldn’t be allowed! I also try really hard to ignore the music when I’m in stores that are playing Christmas songs right now because I don’t want to ruin the REAL festive season when it starts…AFTER THANKSGIVING, lol.

I think next year I’m going to start a “Take Back Thanksgiving” campaign. I don’t know how I’ll do it or what it will entail, but we must lift the overshadowing shroud of Christmas/Holiday-oriented commercialism from Thanksgiving!!

With all the exclamation points and statements of resent that sounds very revolutionary. Perhaps I shall draw up a Declaration freeing us lay-folk from the grips of those wallet-parasites we call “major retailers”. Yes. Yes! Alright, I’m off to do that. Or, you know, make a million Peppermint Mochas for all the people going to Chicago to see them light the Christmas tree for the first time. You know, THE DAY BEFORE THANKSGIVING.

    Hrumph. 😛

The more pumpkin, the better!! And I definitely get into Christmas early. I’d be cool with Christmas music all year long. 😉 Althought I havent decorated my house yet.

  11. Bianca- Vegan Crunk says

Omg. I am sooooo anti the “holiday creep” (that’s the official retail phrase for the phenomenon of putting the Christmas goods out earlier and earlier). I love Thanksgiving and I feel like it’s totally overshadowed by Xmas’ mass consumerism. Nothing against Xmas. I love giving (and receiving!) gifts and all the baking and holiday cheer. But let’s save it for AFTER Tofurky Day. Even my mom put up the Xmas tree this week….because she wanted it to be up when everyone came over to eat tomorrow. She’s never done this before, and I’m convinced she’s been brainwashed by the holiday creep. 🙁

  12. Kristinefitness says

Loooove the pot pie soup idea! Especially now that its winter and COLD!

I love the Christmas spirit, I really get into it about a month out from xmas. Its the best time of the year, you just HAVE to savor it :).

I am 100% in love with any thing pumpkin, so no worries there 😉

    Love your blog!

  13. thedelicateplace says

speaking of things too early, i got a freaking christmas card from someone yesterday?!! i was like um…..wtf i’d like to celebrate thanksgiving first please haha! looks like a great spread and i’m so happy to see you avoid ‘tofurky’ *barf*

When we lived in the UK decorations would begin to emerge in September which is a little too early for my liking, by the time is was actually December most people were already past caring which is a bit sad. Personally I like Chirstmas decorations and such coming out mid November, but a bit earlier wouldn’t hurt anyone 😛
Here’s my contribution for ‘Hug a Vegan’ it was the first vegan treat ever made and the family loved them! http://preheatto180.blogspot.com/2010/11/well-well-well-where-to-begin-my-last.html
    Have a great time tomorrow!

  15. Stefanie says

Great looking suggestions. Christmas starts the day after thanksgiving. I refuse to buy anything christmas before then. It just does not seem right to have winter holiday decor up in october.

Xmas starting in Oct (or Sept!!)
Pumpkin Recipes and/or being a bit overplayed in the ‘sphere
    and Vegan Thankgiving Ideas

Have posted about all of the above. Just not a huge pumpkin person. Fine but months and months of it daily..well, I am ready for ummmm peppermint and gingerbread season. We need a new song on this channel, so to speak 🙂

    Happy TG hon!!!

  17. carascravings says

I’m not American, so I don’t celebrate Thanksgiving, but I still wait until
December 1st hits till I get into the Christmas spirit.

  18. laurak says

I wish I could experience a Thanksgiving celebration, it all looks so fun and festive! So much pumpkin to be seen on everyone’s blogs too hehe, totally different from the consumption in Australia I think!
I am giant christmas dork, I have a selection of super-tacky earrings, badges, broaches, jumpers and ill-fitting t-shirts that I wear (even to work which embarrassing my boss I think lol), and I play christmas carols non-stop all through december…best time of the year!
    Laura 🙂
ps very impressed to read you ate oatmeal with chopsticks, I can’t even manage sushi!

  19. spoonfulofsugarfree says

I love the Christmas Season!!! So cheerful, and happy, and bright 🙂 And I definetly agree-the more pumpkin the better!!
