New Flavor: Blueberry Muffin Larabars

I’ll get my New Year’s Eve recap post up tomorrow. Since it’s only 9AM, I haven’t had a chance to write the post yet. Hopefully y’all had an awesome night :).

Instead, today, I’ll gush about the surprise package I received in the mail on Thursday:

Blueberry muffin larabar

Blueberry Muffin Larabars?!

Didn’t even know they were making these! So opening the package was a complete shock. Right off the bat, I liked ‘em, because they’re blue. (Best color!)

I never did a blueberry version of the famous Homemade Larabars. but it could easily be done. Here’s a look at the ingredient list on the Larabar package:

blueberry larabar ingredients

Blueberry Muffin Larabar Ingredients: dates, cashews, blueberries, blueberry juice concentrate, lemon juice concentrate, vanilla extract

And Blueberry Muffin Larabar Nutrition Facts:

Sadly, they weren’t my favorite, taste-wise. But please don’t see this as a slight against the bar. I am biased against all of the Larabars that don’t contain chocolate. 😉

The chocolate Jocalat bars, using my Microwave Brownie Trick, are pretty much the only Larabars I like. (Well, I’ve been warming to the Cookie Dough bars lately, too.)

I’m also not fit to judge these bars because dried blueberries and I don’t get along. At all. But—if it helps—my little sister liked them. She said they tasted like a chewy blueberry cookie. And my mom thinks they’re delicious. Her words: “They really are like blueberry muffins. I want to slather butter on and toast them!” Silly Mommy.

Ooh, I’d love to try one 🙂 The Blueberry Clif Bars are my favorite, and blueberry muffins are the only muffins I actually enjoy…guess you can say I really like blueberry, haha. (Hope you had a rockin’ New Year’s Eve!)

  2. Rachel says

ohhh snap i love blueberries despite the fact that they turn my mouth purple, i’d be pretty nifty to win this 😀

  3. Bethany says

OMG! I’m so excited for this! I can’t wait for them to hit shelves. Mmmm Blueberry Muffin. I wonder if they will come out with a chocolate chip banana muffin. Now that would be amazing!

  4. Freya says

Awh that sucks you don’t like them! I reckon you should send them my way :p a) we can’t get larabars in the uk, and b) my mum is obsessed with blueberries!! If you don’t ask, you’ll NEVER receive….

  5. Elisa says

Sweet! Thanks for the giveaway :). I’m going to like your facebook page right now for the extra entry. I would’ve liked it anyway if I knew it existed! 🙂
    Love Larabars!!!!

  6. Fi says

Happy New Year Katie! im not a big lara fan becausae i dont like the strong taste of dates. But I do love bluberry muffins, ill just have one of those instead 🙂

  7. Brandie says

Blue!! *giggle* I KNEW I made the right choice for your Christmas color! Yay! I’m not a fan of blueberry either but my Beebits will LOVE that if I get one 🙂 And I already like your FB page, does that count?

Happy New Year Katie!! 🙂 *HUGS from San Diego!*

  8. Leena says

    finally! i’ve been waiting for larabar to put blueberries in there bars for so long! blueberries are my favorite fruit, and don’t even get me started about how much i love blueberry muffins… (;
    cant wait to try these!

  9. Kalese says

I would be curious to try this flavor…has to be better than the blueberry muffin mini shredded wheats!
    Happy New Year!

  10. Clemmy says

Oooh bloooooobs, what a FAB larabar idea! i am such a blueberry fan, i even have a secret stash at the back of my freezer in case of emergency!!!
    Happy (chocolate covered) New Year!
    🙂

  11. maya says

ooh cool! i’ve attempted to make my own incarnation of a blueberry larabar and they turned out… interesting, but not particularly tasty.
would love to give these a try and see how they taste!
    happy new year!

  12. Lorin says

I just bought some cookie dough and carrot cake flavors a few days ago at REI because I have seen them in a store. I will have to try it soon, but I have a weird thing about hoarding bars instead of eating them. However, I am going back to college on Monday so I’m sure they will be good to use for emergency meals or snacks in between classes. Blueberry muffin sounds interesting though.

  13. courtney says

I think this would be my favorite Larabar flavor!!! Even if I don’t win, I am seeking these out at the store ASAP! 🙂 Happy New Year, Katie!

  14. ~Jessica~ says

I adore blueberries, though like you I am not the avid fan of Larabars that I once was. I still rather like the Choc Chip Cookie Dough and Cashew Cookiie, but my obsession with them has waned since the General Mills takeover. Plus, I can’t buy them in the UK any more anyway!

I’d still love to try these though ~ I have also ‘liked’ your FB page 🙂

  15. Gabriela @ Fro-Yo Lover says

The new “blueberry muffin” larabars sound like a great idea!
Sorry they weren’t you’re favorite, though.
As they don’t sell larabars in Brazil, I was thinking about trying one of your raw recipes..
But Grandma says her food processor is made for cutting onions only. So that leaves me with a mixer and a blender. I have dates (thanks to the holidays) in the house, so… can I still do it?
Sorry to bother you on January 1st!
    Happy New Year, Katie!
    xoxo

    • Chocolate-Covered Katie says

What?? Bother me?!? Oh girl, you are WAY too sweet!!! I don’t think you could ever bother me (or anyone else!). Anywhoos… I actually do use a blender (a mini-blender, called the Magic Bullet) for my babies, and it works perfectly. If your blender is small, just don’t try to make more than one batch at once. I know a lot of other people use blenders too, so you should be fine :). Let me know how it works out if you try it!

  16. Alex@Spoonful of Sugar Free says

Uh yum! I haven’t tried the flavor yet, but I am a HUGE fan of blueberry muffins 🙂 I think I agree with your sister-let’s toast em up with butter!

  17. Stefanie says

Happy New Year! I am not a big Larabar fan. The only one I liked was the peanut butter cookie bar. I did try your fudge babies a while ago and enjoyed them. They seemed fresher to me. 🙂

  18. melissa @ the delicate place says

blueberries are my fave fruit! i’m shocked that they made this one! hope it tastes better than the carrot cake which was SUCH a let down 🙁 why did they put pineapple in there?! happy new year!

  19. heather says

I liked your facebook page… then wondered why I hadn’t done it sooner! Those blueberry muffin bars sound great. (Though my husband always asks me why I buy Larabars when I can just make them. You have spoiled us with your recipes!;))

  20. Ilana says

I looove the blueberry ones- found them at a health food store this summer, I would slather tofutti on top and microwave for a few seconds. yum.

  21. Gloria says

I can’t wait to try out the blueberry flavor! However, because I live in Vancouver canada, it will probably be a while before I see it in stores 🙁 Same with some of the other new flavors…

  22. Emma says

Ok, I have to be honest- when I first started reading blogs, I was wondering why everyone was so crazy for larabars. And then I looked at the ingredients in the cashew cookie bar- just cashews and dates? No extra ingredients that I can’t pronounce? Awesome! Even though I don’t buy them often, I definitely have a greater appreciation for them now. (I like making fudge babies and using other recipe on your site- I think they taste much better, they’re affordable to make and they’re a great little snack!),

    • Sarah says

Me too! I did not know what the big deal was, but now I love them. And I especially love the fudge babies, because they DO taste better (and cheaper, which is a huge plus!).

  23. Keegan says

Pretty much like everyone else, I had no idea these existed and yet sound delicious! I’m a blueberry addict, can’t wait to find them around VA!!

  24. Maryea @Happy Healthy Mama says

My two year old is a Larabar freak and loves blueberries so she would likely love this flavor!

  25. Frances says

i want one! i want one!

    🙂

i bet i’d enjoy the blueberry kind. i think i prefer larabar’s Jocolat line, too, though…it’s SO rich, but rather healthy, as far as sweets go. Delicious.

  26. Eliza says

OMGOSH! Aahh 🙂 I just saw your twitter status and squealed lol 😉 anyway this made my 1st day of 2011 a bit happier/better lol ;P
this is definitely an amazing new Larabar flavor! i can’t wait to try one, i love the blueberry pure bars, and i always thought lara needed a berry flavor of some sort !! 🙂 the nutritional info looks so perfect + the blue packaging is really lovely.
happy new year babe, all my love

    xx
    eliza

  27. Lisa says

Wow you’re so lucky to have gotten those to try! I would love to taste one even though i’ve only tried the cashew cookie flavor before. Hope you had an awesome new year’s!

  28. Laura @ Meet Virginia says

How fun! I’ve never even heard of this flavor until now! I’m usually just a fan of the chocolate chip cookie dough, but I’d love to give this new one a try!

  29. Jillian says

MMM….those look so yummy! Being allergic to gluten, I haven’t had a blueberry muffin in years! I would really want to heat it up and eat it warm! That idea of putting butter on it actually sounds kind of good to me, haha.

  30. Megan G. says

Oh my goodness, I was so excited to see that there’s a new flavor! I love blueberries!!! Are these in stores yet?

  31. Jade says

Unbelievably, I’ve never had a blueberry muffin. But blueberries are a favorite and larabars are delicious…so they must be good!

  32. Gaby says

Wow, I’d love to try one! I love blueberry muffins and anything blueberry. I’ve made blueberry babies (balls) with blueberry, shredded coconut and almonds in the food processor and they were amazing!

  33. Teresa says

Blueberry muffin flavor! Oh my gosh this is so exciting! It’s funny because I’m also a HUGE chocolate fan, but interestingly I much prefer the fruity flavors to the jocolat bars. I think it may be due to the fact that your fudge babies are so superior to the chocolate Lara’s. Happy 2011!

  34. Meghan says

I loooooovvvvve blueberries & larabars! I’ve never seen them in the store though…hopefully they’ll get them near me soon!

  35. Ashley C says

Im so excited for a new flavor!!! It was actually you who got me hooked on Larabars in the first place from your blog 🙂 I cant wait to try blueberry but i havent seen them in any stores around my town yet 🙁 The look and sound delicious (plus i love blueberry anything!!)

I was just at Whole Foods today and I didn’t see the blueberry muffin and they didn’t have the PB&J which I love! Oh well, guess it’s another trip to WF tomorrow:) Happy New Year!

  38. Cynthia K says

I “like” you on facebook…it’s out there for the world to see 🙂 Good morning Katie, I hope you have a fabulous day!

  39. Anita says

I agree CCK, dried blueberries can be a little hard to handle. Thank you for all of your pictures, recipes and posts all year ’round. Your recipes inspire me to be a better cooking mom. I’d try one, the BB Lara Bar, but honestly, I think I’d end up agreeing with you. Health, happiness, and good fortune now and always. Happy 2011 to all !!!

  42. Holly says

Yummy… I love Lara bars ad share them whenever I can! I didn’t know about this flavor, Madame Blewberry! Care to share?

  43. Heather says

Yay! Another Larabar that doesn’t contain almonds! I

am allergic to almonds and there are in sooo many Larabars! I hope they sell this flavour in Canada!

  44. Sarah Courtney says

    Katie:
I am so obsessed with LARABARS! I day dream about getting them and eating them!
YUUM! And making them (well, really, making Babies, I mean your babies, I mean….)

This flavor isn’t even listen on the website yet! I LOVE dried blueberries. Can’t wait until these are in the stores!

  46. jen says

I know what you mean about larabars. you know how to make em your own way so buyin the bar seems superfluious. I’m still always down to try their new flavors though 😉

  47. Arielle says

Just catching up on the posts I’ve missed lately, Katie – and man, I wish I had tried this when I was in North America for Christmas, I heart dried blueberries more than I can say!

  48. Bryce says

Hi Katie — doesn’t look like you get too many guys posting on your blog, but you sure look pretty hot so I don’t know why? Had somebody throw one of these Larabars at me right off the American Eagle chairlift at Copper Moutain this past weekend. Tried it yesterday and was pretty impressed.

I love blueberry anything, and I’m hiking the Peruvian Andes this Summer for a couple weeks. Looking for a fruit supplement in case the cook’s grub on the trail is only fit for his burros. You wanna throw me a Blueberry Larabar sample? If any good, I might bring a box with me.

You sure are pretty but you also look way to young. OK. Enjoy your chocolate! (if that what this site is supposed to be about.)

  49. Kathy Anderson says

I have been looking for blueberry EVERYTHING because I am battling breast cancer and I know blueberries are a good antioxidant. I can’t wait to try this bar. Thanks so much for this wonderful website! I’m a new follower and so glad I did.
