I love my Easter dress!!

A perfect Easter morning

When I stepped outside for an early-morning run, there was a bunny in our front yard. I’m so serious! I could not believe it!! This put a huge smile on my face for the entirety of my run… and pretty much for the entirety of my whole day.

Breakfast made me smile too: Raspberry-Truffle Oatmeal

One must eat chocolate on Easter, yes?

I ate my breakfast with the rest of my family. It’s always so nice to have everyone together again… just like when we were little. Now, the only times we’re all together, sadly, is during holidays and sometimes in the summer.

Their Easter breakfast was the most un-vegan creation you could ever dream up! It’s a pie known as “pizza rustica,” and the ingredients include: salami, pepperoni, ham, ricotta cheese, and eggs. I loathed the pie even as an omnivore and therefore have absolutely no plans to create a vegan version (if such a thing would even be possible!). In my book, chocolate beats salami any day!

After breakfast, I used a new nailpolish (Easter gift) to make my fingers festive:

However, I ran outta time and only drew chickies on the thumbs.

True, it’s no watermelon manicure.

Finally, after three years in a row of cold, we got a gorgeous Easter of 80 degrees. (Last year, I had to change into fleece pants!)

My mom says she’s going to continue to give us Easter baskets until we are 70 years old. Smile

Can one be “in love” with a dress? If so, I was in love with my Easter dress this year. It was fun and frilly, only $50, and–most importantly–my favorite color. Love.

What colors do you normally wear?
And are there any colors you will never wear?

I am a blue girl! If a shirt comes in different colors and one of them is blue, you can bet your jeans (blue jeans!) I’ll be buying that color. I also love wearing dark green and light purple; I wish companies would make more in these colors. As for a color I avoid at all costs? Yellow!! It’s a beautiful color, and if I looked like Kate Hudson in How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days (or even like my lovely sister, above), I’d wear it all the time. But I don’t. And therefore, if I see a yellow shirt or dress, I run the other way. Fast.

For Easter, normally I wear pink.

  2. Carrie (Moves 'N Munchies) says

um YOU LOOK GORGEOUS !i LOVEEEEEE YOUR DRESS!!!!!!!!
and chocolate beats that pizza thang ANYDAY and everyday!
who wants a savory breakfast? not me!

i tend to wear earthy colors a lot… but then again.. i love bright colors too .. esp in the summer!

  3. Aimee says

I pretty much stick to black. Not because I’m depressed or anything, or a goth (although I did go through a big punk phase in high school). I just like the color and like that it matches anything. Plus, I’m just not a girly girl.

  4. Lisa C. says

Oh Katie, I bet you are too hard on yourself. I bet you DO too look good in yellow! 😉
For me, I stay away from orange. I eat a lot of vitamin A foods, such as sweet potatoes, and so I’m orange enough as it is! 😕

  5. krickit6 says

Katie, LOVE your dress!! I originally wanted my wedding dress to have a ruffly skirt like your dress 🙂 I called it “the cupcake dress” because it reminded me of a happy, yummy cupcake 🙂 I wear lots and lots of pink, darker/brighter pink is my favorite. Your dress in blue is perfect, though, definitely awesome!

  6. Ellen @ Cinnamonalicious says

OMG I LURVEEEEE your dress!! you look absolutely gorgeous!!
I tend to wear alottt of grey… sounds so boring but whenever i buy clothes I’m always drawn to grey! I have alot of purple too though 😀
I never wear orange.. it just does noooot look nice on me :/ i like coral though!

  7. Kristen @ The Red Velvet Life says

You look gorgeous in your pretty Easter dress! I also love light blue (matches the eyes) and pink. I probably wear too much pink, but I like the pop of color that a bright pink gives me…prob because I’m so pale, er…fair. 🙂 I wore a pink Lilly Pulitzer dress for Easter yesterday, which I’ll post tomorrow. Still catching up with zee posts…and detoxing from a lil’ too much chocolate. 🙂

      • Kristen @ The Red Velvet Life says

YES — it’s dangerous in the Lilly store! Dangerous for my wallet, that is!! I also have to limit my visits. Luckily there are no Lilly stores in San Francisco, so I tend to only go if I’m in Austin or SoCal. But that might change soon because I’m moving soon…more on that later! I see Lilly dresses in my future, LOL!

  8. Elle says

You and your sister look lovely in your Easter dresses. Aqua is my color too!

The one color I would NEVER wear is orange. I love to eat it, and I love orange flowers, too, but never never to wear!

  9. Ari@ThE DiVa DiSh says

YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL! and I LLOOOOVVVE the dress and it’s frills!! My mom still gives us easter baskets, and I am married AND have a baby haha 🙂 I am def not complaining though 🙂

  10. Eric Jaffa says

At the “zPizza” chain of pizzerias, the term “rustica” just refers to the shape of the bread.

If the shape is rectangular, then the pizza is a “rustica,” regardless of the toppings.

    zPizza has a vegan-cheese option.

  11. Elle says

    your easter dress is adorable!

ick, that breakfast thing sounds gross! oatmeal and chocolate are way better than meat, cheese, and eggs every day. :p

  12. Kimberley says

Love your dress and the colour looks gorgeous on you, suits you well!
I love navy and coral colours on me best… right now!

I would be so happy if my mom said that to me, I will have to mention it too her 😉

  13. Rachel (tea and chocolate) says

Gorgeous dress! Most of my wardrobe is blue, haha. I should probably switch it up. I also like rose, which I read somewhere is the only color that looks good with any skin type.

Your breakfast sounds so much better than that egg dish! Sweet breakfasts always win over savory, in my opinion.

  14. Alicia says

I love pink and blue. Stay away from yellow. I’m just too pale.

Great dress! My mom still sends me peeps every year. I’m 33 and haven’t like peeps in at least 10 years but she still remembers them as my favorite. Gotta love moms!

  15. Stephanie says

Yup, your breakfast sounds way (way way way) better than your family’s! Also, is that a donut pan I see in your basket? If so, I’m totally jealous. I need to get one ASAP (and probably will, because my mom works at Crate and Barrel now, woot woot!).

  16. Cait @ Beyond Bananas says

I love your dress! And the little chickie on your nail.. well thats some serious skill right there!

In all honesty, Easter has become a very low key celebration in my family. In the past , my brother and I would be away at school or I would have some sort of soccer tournament.. so we’ve kind of just let it be..and celebrate it only with my mom, dad and bro. Therefore, yesterday’s outfit.. as jeans and a sweatshirt!

  17. Shannon says

I love love love that dress. The colors and pattern are just so flirty and girlie. Absolutely gorgeous.

I tend to mix my colors up, but I’m a big fan of the purples and pinks and anything floral. I do tend to wear a lot of purple and green though. I just like to mix it up in general.

  18. Tara says

I love your dress!! You look so pretty in it. I wear lots of green, yellow, and brown. I decided to branch out and buy a pink dress for prom though!

  19. Emily says

Your nails are too cute! And you look beautiful, I love your dress!!

I wear black and white a LOT. I love color but black and white always steals my heart (and the money in my wallet). 😀

  20. Jess says

I like the dress too. i wear a lot of blue (denim), pink, white, brown, and purple, which is my fav color. I”m trying to wear more different colors though.

  21. Holly @ The Runny Egg says

Your Easter dress is so adorable!

I actually wear lots of black, gray, blue or brown (not all together) — those colors seem to look the best on me. Plus I am not adventurous at all when it comes to clothes, so the more neutral, the better!

  22. Alex@Spoonful of Sugar Free says

Looks like you had a wonderful Easter 🙂 🙂 🙂 You look wonderful in your adorable Easter dress! And I am a blue girl, too! (I’m blue daba dee daba di…). Almost all of my school pictures were taken in blue shirts, and about 80% of my closet is blue. BLUE BLUE BLUE!

  23. Rebecca says

Your dress is beautiful, no wonder you’re in love with it! I was pretty psyched about being able to finally wear mine yesterday too 🙂 It’s funny, I was telling my grandmother about it and she asked the color and I told her blue (blue is my clothing color of choice).
“Why did I even ask” lol,-Grandma (smiles)

  24. Faith @ lovelyascharged says

That’s a fun, festive dress – I’d be in love with it too! I refuse to wear neons, but outside of that, anything goes! Blue always makes my eyes pop, though, and I feel so fiesty in red and chic in black, so the vast majority of my clothes are those shades!

  25. Monica Eve says

I LOVE that dress! Flirty and sweet at the same time.

My favorite color is green but it is REALLY hard for me to find a shade that looks good on me. Frustrating.

  26. Ann Claire says

Your Easter dress is so pretty!! That is one my favorite colors and it looks so good on you!
My favorite colors to where are blues of all shades, dark purples, and certain greens. While I used to where a ton of pink when I was little I don’t where it much anymore just because I don’t think it looks that good on me…Looks like you had a fun Easter!

  27. Mariah says

    chocolate does beat salami anyday!!!
my favorite color is blue and i like to wear alot of blue and black! I NEVER wear pink!

  28. Meghan @ StruggleMuffins says

You’re adorable in your Easter dress! I love dresses with ruffles 🙂 I love anything pink or purple but will wear pretty much anything…except for orange. I fully appreciate the vibrant color, just not when its on me 😉

  29. Eleanor@eatinglikeahorse says

The blue dress is beautiful, as is the picture of you and your sister 🙂
And bless your mum for doing the baskets! Mine still gives us all Easter eggs and she bought some amazing handmade chocolates this year too, which I did full justice to!
I love all different shades of blue and turqoise too but I bet you would look lovely in yellow if it was pale; about the colour of your sister’s skirt?

  30. Catherine @ Running Beginners says

Love your dress! And funnily enough we had the same thing for breakfast today here 🙂 Except we added more than a little chocolate lol – and we stirred it through to melt it in there before adding a bit extra on top haha.

As for clothes. My favourite colours are pink and yellow – and I do wear quite a few things that are pink or yellow. But I like to wear bright happy colours, and as long as I don’t look washed out and terrible I’ll wear any colour. I have a fairly eclectic wardrobe as I dress according to my mood lol.

  31. Jess (In My Healthy Opinion) says

Aw, I love your dress!! You look great!! 🙂 I normally wear lots of pink and black.. I also love anything cream-colored and yellow!

  32. Albizia says

    Happy Easter!

It’s really easy to fall in love with such a gorgeous dress. And it looks amazing on you!

For a long time the only color I used to choose in the clothes shops was black. The few colorful items in my wardrobe were there thanks to thoughtful friends who bought them for me and were hardly ever worn. Now I am open to new colors. At the moment I am in a red period. I have a red coat, jacket, shirt, T-shirt, skirt, backpack… Red makes me feel more confident. But in the past I’ve had a short blue period, too. I can still appreciate a cute blue blouse 🙂 .

  33. Tricia says

Lol, that pizza does sound a bit gross. I was never a big meat eater.
Your dress looks absolutely adorable 🙂
My go-to color has got to be blue or earthy colors. I typically stay away from super neon yellows, but I do go for gold occasionally 🙂 glad you had a happy easter.

  34. Averie (LoveVeggiesAndYoga) says

You look beautiful in your dress as does your sister in hers! Two stunning ladies!

I love yellow on me, actually. Blond hair, tan skin, it works for me. I also look good in teal blue like the color you’re wearing. I love pink and purple to look at and it doesnt look bad on me, but it’s not as flattering as other colors. I run the other way for orange or lime green!

  35. Ginger&Rice says

    You look so pretty!
We normally don’t do much for Easter other than acknowledge it. BUT if I were to go out any buy me a hot new dress, it would be made in warm colors – red, orange, and yellow!

And yea, that pie sounds pretty grodie.

  36. Alexandra (Veggin' Out in the Kitchen) says

You look absolutely gorgeous in that dress girl!! Of course, the dress is beautiful, but you make it ten times more beautiful! 😀 And you and your sister are so cute 🙂

Haha, chocolate definitely wins me over every time, too 😉 While the rest of my family ate their non-vegetarian meal, I snacked on some delicious dark chocolate stuffed dates! YUM!

Oh, I made your healthier chocolate cake for my birthday on Friday! LOVED IT!!! Thanks so much for providing a healthy, whole grain, vegan, and, most importantly, delicious cake recipe! None of my friends knew it was vegan and whole grain – they were too focussed on the amazing chocolaty-ness! 😀

  37. Beth @ naturallyyoursbeth says

My moms the same way about our Easter baskets 🙂 and I love the dress…you guys look so pretty and springy!

  38. Mary @ Bites and Bliss says

That is so cute!! I love it!! I love wearing aquas/teals/turquise- those sorts of blues along with other bright colors. It’s mainly black, greay, or white with yoga though. As for a color I don’t wear..hmmm..I’m not a huge huge fan of wearing red unless it’s a dress.

  39. Allison says

I would be smiling the whole day just from seeing a bunny period much less on Easter! Your dress is a beautiful color. I like to stick with shirts in blues and greens for at home. Almost my entire work wardrobe is black and gray though. I need to get some more colorful work clothes. Generally I stay away from yellow, but I bought a pair of yellow shoes I am in love with and if I managed to find a shirt to match them, I might buy it. I never wear pink though. Or red.

  40. J says

Sounds like a very nice Easter. Our weather was warm and sunny here in NYC too. I love it! Just out of curiosity, I heard someone mention a donut pan (very fun) but what other treats did the Easter bunny bring you?

  41. jaclyn@lifeoftodayslady says

I love that there was a bunny on the lawn!!!! That puts a smile on my face right now 🙂

And your dress is so so pretty! I tend to wear a lot of neutral colors and then wear colored accessories. A color that I hardly ever (I don’t know if I would say never) wear is orange….. I like orange but I feel like it would be hard to find a good orange to wear.

  42. BroccoliHut says

Love the ruffles on your dress!
I really love salmon-colored dresses (not to sound like Ross from friends), but I will absolutely never wear yellow. It brings out all the orange that’s in my skin due to all my carrot chompin;.

  43. Heather @ kissmybroccoli says

The dress is gorgeous, Katie! That is definitely a good color for you!

I tend to stay on the neutral side of things with the color of my wardrobe: gray, black, brown, dark green…but in the summer, I love spicing it up a bit and mixing in pink, purple, and blue!

Yellow…I can’t wear yellow! It looks awful with my complexion!

So glad you had a beautiful Easter!

  44. Christin@purplebirdblog says

I wish my family still gave me Easter baskets too!! 🙂 I had the same bunny in the yard on Easter phenomenon 2 years ago… I’ll never forget how cool I thought that was!!

  45. Kate says

Yummy Raspberry Truffle Oatmeal!!! I wore a beautiful watermelon pink on Easter…should have done the watermelon nails to match;)
