I want to feature you!

Every time someone blogs about one of my recipes, it puts a huge smile on my face. This past week, especially, I can’t tell you how much I’ve needed that smile.

I really want to give some of this happiness back. But because my blog is a recipe blog, not a “what I ate” blog, I rarely write about others’ recipes. I’m too busy writing about yummy things like…

Cookie Ball Pops

Or about equally yummy, albeit a little more strange, creations such as…

mint ice cream

Spinach Ice Cream

(Hey, it’s an arduous task, convincing people that spinach ice cream tastes good.)

A few weeks ago, when we did the online bake sale for Japan, I had a lot of fun featuring your brilliant creations., and ever since that experience, I’ve been trying to figure out a good way to feature y’all again on the blog. Finally it hit me: desserts! There’s a popular misconception that vegan foods—especially desserts—are bland and boring. Some people are even surprised when I assure them that, as a vegan, I can still eat chocolate! Therefore, I thought it’d be fun to do a series highlighting your favorite vegan desserts. Oh yes, it’s time to…

Hug a Vegan Dessert

To be featured:

Just write a blog post about a favorite vegan treat. It can be your own recipe, one of my dessert recipes, a cookbook recipe, or even a packaged product. Include, in your post, a photo of the food (or a photo of you hugging the food).  Throughout the summer, I’ll write a few feature posts, highlighting the photos of your desserts and linking to your blogs. (If you don’t have a blog, you can email a photo.)

True, my blog might not get as many visitors as foodgawker. But I can promise you’ll get at least some new visitors if you’re featured here. Plus, I won’t reject any photos Winking smile.

Side note: sweet breakfasts or drinks are totally ok, too!

  1. Great idea Katie!

I love vegan breakfasts — smoothies, oatmeal, PBJ on toast :) Nothing too crazy, but they all taste delicious!

  2. i LOVED the guest post you did for my blog. :) it was perfect!

  3. Oh hooray! I loved when you did Hug a Fat and Hug a Fruit. I never got to participate in the Hug a Vegan series…but this is perhaps a great alternative. [And I HAVE been promising my “sometimes vegan” roommate to make a treat for her before she leaves for the summer…]

  4. Emily says:

Waffles are definitely a favorite breakfast food although I rarely make them. I should get on that!

  5. Great idea, Katie!

I have a zillion vegan dessert recipes. Gosh, where do I begin. That’s like picking what child is your just CANT pick. lol No bake, warm and gooey, frozen, smooth, chewy, crunchy, so many textures and flavors, so little time.. :)

I will be sure to write about something and link back to this post. Maybe more than once :)

Congrats on your guesties last week. I saw them all when they were live on all those blogs. CONGRATS! And on your FG successes lately, too!

  6. Samantha says:

Oooooh this is a perfect idea! Can’t wait to see all the other wonderful bloggers’ post out there… question, can it be a post we’ve already written i.e. if I want to submit this post is it okay? let me know :D!

My heart still goes out to you and those around you <3

    – Samantha

    1. It has to be a new post, but you can totally write about an already-posted recipe!! :)

  7. Katherine says:

O this is awesome! I know what I will be making! A great shake I have been nommming on!
Anyways, if you get a chance I really would love it if you could add me to your favs, you are on my blogroll :)

    1. Hi Katherine, can you leave me a comment on the post titled “chocolate covered blogroll”?

  8. great idea babe! and some more hugs!

  9. Love the idea! I love making overnight oats and having pancakes 😀

  10. Um… I am probably going to buy an ice cream maker because of your spinach ice cream. Just sayin.

  11. Aw, I read the sad news. I hope you are doing better as the week progresses.

Those all look yummy! I’m boring, nut butter, cinnamon, and toast is my latest breakfast love.

  12. Sara says:

Hey Katie! I hope you are feeling better this week! I am way into implementing vegan recipes daily. My husband just rolls his eyes at me. I made my grandma your single lady carrot cupcake for her bday, she loved it! I also plan on making some of your cookies and goodies for this weekend because I finally get to see my nieces and nephew! I would love to be featured on your blog!!

    1. Aww that is so sweet, and makes me so happy, that you made a single-lady for your grandma!

  13. Katie, this is such a cool idea! I love these “round ups.” Always get sooooo many new ideas. This will be a great excuse to break out my new Baby Cakes cookbook for submission inspiration. :)

  14. Jenny says:

I love oatmeal and vegan overnight oats… but I have to say, I think my absolute favourite vegan breakfast is a smoothie in a bowl! Good ol’ SIABs. 😀 I like ’em BRIGHT green – so either spinach, parsley, kale, or mint is involved. And breakfast is like dessert to me, so you could also say it’s my favourite vegan dessert, maybe…? Reminds me that I have to try your spinach ice cream, ASAP. Spinach = <3

Hope you have an AWESOME week. If I had a blog, I'd blog the recipes of yours I've tried – and hopefully send more smiles your way. D: Oh well – I know there are other great bloggers that will help out with that!

    Take care~!

    1. You are such a sweetheart, Jenny! And lol yes, breakfasts are interchangeable with desserts for me too… that’s why I had to add on to my post that people can submit brekkie recipes too! :)

  15. Awesome idea… I will surely be doing this and linking!

  16. Angela says:

My fav breakfast is oatmeal using your voluminous oatmeal trick. I just get everything ready the night before and its so easy. I top it with dates and bananas. My treat for weekends are crepes. I have a recipe for gluten-free pancakes that use quinoa flour, buckwheat flour, and amaranth flour. So delicious.

  17. Ragnhild says:

That is a GREAT idea Katie! I need to come up with my absolut favorit dessert for this one :)
Also, Could you please add me to you Blog roll?

    1. can you leave me a comment on the post titled “chocolate covered blogroll”?

  18. Cookie dough pancakes with chocolate syrup?!! After seeing this, I may never use maple again…chocolate syrup sounds like such a better idea!

Fave vegan desserts: Any cupcake from Vegan Cupcakes Take Over the World … and vegan peanut butter milkshakes from our new vegan restaurant, Imagine Vegan Cafe.

  19. This a fab idea. All of your desserts are amazing!

  20. Love this idea, thanks Katie! :)

I’m just writing a post at the moment (featuring a yummy treat, inspired by one of your recipes, that I made and loved today!) but is it ok if it also includes details of other food within the post (eg other things I’ve eaten today), or does it just have to focus on the treat I’d like you to feature?

    1. Can definitely include other stuff! :)

      1. Brill, thanks, will be posting in a minute in that case! :) Do I just need to link back to this post, or shall I email you a link to the post as well? Sorry for all the questions!!

  21. YES YES YES I DO!! ahh so excited!! i love EVERY vegan dessert- like for real… ! im a sucker for brownies and cookies though :)

  22. Ooh, awesome! I’m just finishing up a post about vegan oatmeal raisin cookies, I’m super excited to participate!

  23. LOVE THIS IDEA almost as much as I love you, so that’s saying something :) I love ALL your recipes so darn much though I won’t know what to hug!! What a shame I guess I’ll have to make them all *sigh* 😉

AAAH that blondie looks AMAZING!! Can’t wait for the recipe!! 😀

  24. This is a great thing to do! I love vegan breakfasts and desserts! By the way, I made a microwave cake that you inspired and blogged about it today. Ya gotta love the single serve treats! I hope you have a great day Katie!

  25. Vivianne says:

Yum! Sounds like a great challenge. This might be my perfect chance to try a recipe of my own! 😮 Huzzah!

Congratz on guest posting (: I love your blog and I’m so happy I was able to come upon it (from one of your guest posts no less!)

    1. I am so so glad you found me… haha I probably already told you that, but it’s true!

  26. Hi Katie!
Just posted my latest and favorite(-ist?) vegan dessert: Kabocha Spice Gelato ( All my desserts are always vegan, gluten-free, and free of most common allergens too… So please consider me in the running! I’ve been a fan of your blog since forever p.s. and am so grateful for everything you do, Katie… Thank you!! :)

    1. Aww thank you so much, Desi!
(For the post, though, can you link back to this post?)

      1. Just did it – Hope it worked! Thanks, Katie! :)

  27. Aww how fun! What a great idea and awesome opportunity you’re giving other bloggers. You are such a sweetie, Katie :-) I can’t wait for this!

  28. Gen says:

Can’t wait to drool over all of the wonderful pics to come! 😀

  29. When it comes to breakfast, having something sweet is always the way to go, and any dessert with chocolate in it has my name written all over it! Which is why I adore your blog and am so glad I came across it a couple weeks ago!

    1. Hehe chocolate desserts are my weakness too! Or wait, maybe my strength, since chocolate isn’t a weakness at all, right? 😉

  30. Melissa says:

So sweet of you to spread your love around! I have been enjoying many of your recipes lately–you’re my new go-to site for when my evening sweet tooth kicks in! :)

  31. Love this idea and I loved all of your guest blogs too! I love how you want to help people get more viewers. Very sweet :-) I have yet to make one of your recipes OR anything vegan for that matter. So perhaps my post can be about my first venture into vegan territory. I would obviously use your recipe for my first go at it! :-)

  32. aww Katie I’m so glad that you’re feeling at least a tad bit better? 😀 and this is a fun idea. spontaneity is always good. have a blessed day

    1. Thanks, Ellie! I’m trying to keep myself busy… it’s when I’m not busy that I start thinking of my baby and crying again. Chocolate is a good distraction.

  33. Lovely idea. I am putting my thinking cap on.

  34. kate says:

what a fun idea im definitely doing it! :)

  35. Hannah says:

Ahhh great idea. Can I use this post for it? It was from a week ago but I added the link to your page at the bottom, so let me know if it works out. Hmmm my favorite vegan breakfast is oats, always oats, haha.

    1. It does need to be a new post, but you can just put a little picture at the end of ANY post you write. In other words, the recipe can be an old one and the post doesn’t have to be about the recipe!

  36. Great idea! I am not vegan but I have a friend who is on an egg, dairy, soy, gluten and wheat free diet. So I came up with this incredible cookie that she can enjoy!

  37. I always love surprising people with delicious treats that are vegan. Here is a recipe that is not only vegan, but gluten free too! Thank you!!

  38. What a brilliant idea… I’ll have to start thinking, cooking and eating!
I made some vegan (and GF) carrot cake flapjacks (with coconut cream) at the weekend (link below) – they would have been right up your street :-)
Favourite vegan breakfast at the moment is fresh strawberries and raspberries with plain soya yoghurt, followed by GF multiseed toast with coconut butter and strawberry jam; it’s amazing :-)

  39. Charissa says:

Here’s my dessert submission…linked you in my latest post…lovely idea girlfriend!

  40. Ann Claire says:

This is such a great idea!! Now, I’ve just gotta get baking a vegan dessert!

  41. Moni'sMeals says:

Katie, such a fun idea. I am so in!
I actually just posted my favorite Vegan Brownies yesterday (*NEW*) so I am going to summit those! :) That works out great and I look so forward to all the submissions and I bet you get sooooo many! :)

  42. Thanks so much for this opportunity! I’d love to be featured. I can’t wait to get to work creating a delicious vegan recipe…hopefully filled with chocolate! 😛
Oh and by the way, your blog definitely doesn’t give off the “me! me! me” vibe. It’s awesome! 😀

  43. Oh I can’t wait to do this! Now I just have to think up something delicious and vegan!!! :)

  44. Debra says:

Katie! i absolutely adore all your sinful yet healthy desserts! however, i was wondering if you could formulate a low-fat (of course vegan!) single lady sweet potato pie/souffle kind of thing, maybe in a ramekin?

    1. I can try… I don’t think I’ve ever had souffle! Yikes!

  45. You know… I really struggled tonight with how difficult it is to find non-dairy desserts in restaurants. This is a perfect excuse to try one of your delish recipes so I can have something on hand when I’m having a massive craving!

  46. Tara says:

Yay I’m so excited to hug my favorite vegan desserts, but I’m even more excited to see what everyone else shares!! Make sure you post lots of reminders because I will forget. I read your blog everyday though so if you keep reminding us I won’t!
I might just have to hug the blondies that you post tomorrow though :)

  47. BroccoliHut says:

What a great idea! I would love see my fellow readers’ delectable concoctions:)

  48. Veronica says:

    I’m in! What’s the deadline?

    1. How about… two weeks from today? :)

  49. I just made a vegan dessert recipe for this. I’ll be blogging about it on Friday. I don’t make enough desserts, let alone vegan desserts so this is a great way for me to try something new.

    1. Aww yay! I’m excited to see it! :)

  50. I just made my very own CCK-inspired Single Lady Cupcakes! 😀 The Pink Lady cupcake is my favourite in terms of looks, but the Honey Almond was to live for. I’d love to be featured!

  51. Fun! I’ll link a recipe to you tonight!

  52. My mom made these quinoa flake PB cookies which could be vegan if the honey was substituted for agave…so they’re easily vegan and they’re delicious!! They taste JUST like the full-fat regular PB cookie but they’re actually really good for you. (They’re whole wheat and gluten-free, too)
Not to spam, but here’s a link if you’re interested:

    1. Sorry, meant to say wheat & gluten-free, not whole wheat

  53. Karla says:

Hi there Katie! I totally took your challenge and made a vegan dessert I had never made before! I’m excited to share it with all of you.

  54. kris says:

    Low Calorie Choco-Cookie-Dough Spread:

By the way, I have a plea!
If you really do release a cookbook, can you plleeeeassseee pleeeeaaasssee let in be sold in Singapore so that your biggest fan (me) can snap up the first copy?!!! 😀

    1. Awwww!! And lol yes of course… not that I’d have control over that, but I could always personally deliver one. I adore Singapore, even though I was only there once. It was so warm… and clean of course ;).

  56. Damjana says:

I’d buy your book too! :)
Here’s my tribute to vegan dessert hugging month :)
    Kisses xoxo

  57. This sounds like fun!!! Do I have to link to this post, or your other one with the list of other people who have done this?

    1. This post :).
I’m excited to see what you feature… because your creations always look so yummy!

  58. Awweee, thanks Katie! :) You are so sweet. :)

  59. Danielle says:

  60. Rebecca says:

  61. Can I submit another post? I made some Single Serving Fat-free Fudgy-centred Mini-Choco-Cupcakes (Gluten-free) and really want to share it with everyone! 😀

    Happy Memorial Day Katie

  64. Jeneveve says:

Hey Katie, not sure if I’m a bit late to this party but I’ve just found your blog and couldn’t resist making the blondies! I’m not even a vegan and they’re fantastic. Link to my post about it here, but thank you for all the wonderful recipe inspiration.

  65. Hey there! I hope it’s not too late to submit a recipe. I just posted a vegan, gluten-free chocolate cake recipe :) I linked to this “want to be featured” post so I hope it works. Let me know. Thanks Katie! Keep up the amazing work you’re doing.

    1. It looks beautiful!!! You’re definitely not too late to be featured in a future post! :)

  66. Hey Katie!!

  67. Not sure if I am supposed to comment again since I linked a second vegan/gluten-free dessert to this post?? Anyway, here it is…

    This was the first one:

    Thanks Katie
