Cake Batter Desserts

Time to break out those Funfetti Cookie Dough Balls.

In honor of my birthday (I’m excited and not-so-excited at the same time), today’s post spotlights cake, funfetti, and all things sprinkle!

Cake Batter Pizza

Can you look at this photo and not feel happy? Give me birthday-cake pizza over regular pizza any day. It’s much more fun. And much more pretty-ful (which should be a word, by the way).

If you’ve been reading my blog for a while, you’ve probably seen this photo a million times, because it’s one of the most-popular recipes on my site!

Even better than the original… because chocolate is always better!

I made these for a bunch of kindergarteners, and they ate every last crumb sprinkle.

Also known as “fairy dust” ice cream or “magic fairytale” ice cream.

Question of the Day:

Do people think you look younger (or older) than you are?

People always mistake me for being younger.  And I know some people find it offensive or annoying when others mistake them for being much younger than they are. But I really don’t mind. (Except for one time when a guy thought I was twelve. That made me mad.) I am secretly hoping it means I can look like Michelle Pfeiffer when I’m 53. (Seriously, what is her secret?)

My birthday dessert is going to be Chocolate Mousse Pie. And yes, I will be posting the recipe this week.

when i was sick with the ED, everyone thought i was older but now that i’m at a healthy weight (& i smile a lot more) people think i’m younger! gotta love those filled out cheeks & my asian genes! 🙂

  2. Qi Ting @ Misadventures of Fat free Baking says

Whoa A Double Dark Chocolate Mousse Pie!!!! That’s the DREAM!!! I can’t wait! 😀 😀 I’m 18 but I have a hard time convincing older people (neighbours and random people) that I’m not 13! I’m pretty sure one of my neighbours is still angry with me because she thinks I keep lying to her about my age 🙁
And Yes! You do look really young! I hope this doesn’t offend you but I thought you were 17 when I first saw your photo!! You don’t look a DAY older than 24! 😀

  3. Jenny says

Nahh, I wasn’t surprised that you were twenty-five. 🙂 Maybe only because I’ve been reading your blog for so long, though… The first commenter – Katie – is right: you do look young! But rather than “young”, I’d say “youthful”. Which is definitely a good thing! I always get mistaken for being two or three years older (people think I’m about 23), though my parents say it’s because I have a “mature” face… (i.e. I look too serious?! I don’t know what they mean, really!)

I hope you’re taking Tuesday off to yourself! Well, even if you do blog, I hope it’ll be because you love doing so…!

Of all your cake-batter recipes, I have to say that the chocolate cake-batter milkshake is my absolute favourite! With chocolate sprinkles or cacao nibs on top. I STILL haven’t made cake batter pizza yet… Insane. Must put that on my to-do list. Maybe for Tuesday in honour of your birthday!

    Have a great Sunday. 😀

  4. Jennyb says

I look younger i think, especially now i’ve lost a little weight again (& opposite to tea-bagginit, i looked much younger when i was very ill) . Although i must pass for 18 still as they haven’t asked me for ID when i’ve been doing the grocery shopping recently!

By the way your sprinkles in the US are so much brighter and prettier than those in the UK, ours are pathetic and not at all bright 🙁

  5. Demelza says

I still haven’t tried any of the cake batter recipes! I need to get on that.

I wasn’t surprised by your age because I’ve been reading your blog for a while. ;]
People always mistake me for being younger than I am, too. I’m 21, but I get all sorts of funny answers. I remember being out for a walk one day last year and there were a bunch of elementary/middle school kids playing outside. A group of girls called out to me and asked if I went to their school. It caught me off guard!

I was also at an eating disorders fundraiser/speaker event a year or two ago (my best friend was anorexic), and when my mom went to get the car she left me behind to watch the items we had won for the silent auction. Several adults came up to me while she was gone, saying, “It’s okay, little girl…your mom just went to get the car. She didn’t leave you!”
“Yes, she’ll be right back–don’t worry, she wouldn’t abandon you!”
I remember just staring at them all at first, like…okay? I’m not worried? Haha.
I finally just played along and said, “Yes, I know.”

People that know me still have trouble remembering how old I am. The people at my parents’ church are wondering if I’ve graduated high school yet and the people at my college usually think I’m a freshman (I’m a senior this year, hee hee).

Hope you have a great birthday week, Katie! :]

  6. Sarah @ Feeeding Brain and Body says

Everyone thinks I look younger then my age, but I’m okay with that cause I don’t like getting older! I still feel like I should be a teenager, although I act like a granny in an 20 year old body! You look younger then you are 🙂 I’ve got to try those Funfetti Cookie Dough Balls!

  7. Amy Sun says

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!! I’m not surprised at your turning 25. Enjoy it. That was my favorite age to be!! It’s such a happy medium. I claimed I was 25 for 3 years! 🙂 I can’t wait to try some of your sprinkles desserts. (Are the sprinkles clean and sugar free? And where do you buy them?) Thanks!

  8. Liz @ Tip Top Shape says

People often say I look older than my age. You definitely look younger!! All this time I thought you were 21-22. But own it, girl!! A lot of people wish they had your problem! lol

And happy birthday!!! I wish you lots and lots of chocolate and happiness 😀

  9. Steph says

You lucky girl! I would love for people to guess my age to be younger than it is! Most of the time they’re always right on, or over by a year or two. Which isn’t so bad, seeing as i’m still only in my twenties as well. But when I get older, that may be a problem, as I refuse to age past my 30th birthday :p

  10. Emma says

I figured you were in your early twenties. You look very young, but you’re so intelligent that you couldn’t have possibly been younger than 20!

All of these recipes look so delicious, I think I might make them all this week.
I’m 17, but people always think i’m a lot older. I’m always mistaken for my sibling’s mother! One guy actually told me, “You look old. Old enough to be a mom.” That wasn’t a very good day for me.

  11. Roanne says

You do look younger than 25 but that’s a good thing! I get mistaken as younger all the time, I’m 32 and told I look somewhere between 18 and 23. Oh and a few times I’ve been asked if my 10 yr old daughter is my little sister LOL. You look great Katie! Always better to look younger than older. 😀

  12. Genevieve says

I totally understand…I turned 25 this year too but I’ve been getting the same comments from people for about the last ten years who think I’m still a teenager and are very surprised when they find out my actual age! I don’t think I’ve gotten anything as young as 12 though, I think the youngest guess I’ve had is 14. I’ve gotten used to it by now, and I people tell me that I will appreciate it once I’m older!

ps. Good timing for the cake batter round-up – any of these would be good for the Labour Day neighbourhood BBQ I’m going to this weekend!

    • Chocolate-Covered Katie says

I was going to do a Labor Day round up… but then I realized it would look very similar to my Memorial Day round up, and I didn’t want to be repetitive. Not everyone likes the deep-dish cookie pie picture as much as me, I’m sure ;).

      • Genevieve says

After you mentioned the deep dish cookie pie, I considered making that…but instead I made the funfetti cookie dough balls (I just had to use my math skills so that I could make a slightly larger batch).
I thought they would be perfect for the kids at our neighbourhood BBQ, but as it turned out, no kids showed up to appreciate the sprinkles! Oh well, I still loved them – they were so cute and yummy too! I usually stay away from desserts that have sprinkles in them (because they often involve frosting from a can and boxed caked mix), but you may have converted me now 😉

  13. Megan says

Hooray for your almost birthday! I hope it is splendid and that you enjoy the cooler weather on its way!! (The 80s this week sounds AMAZING) I totally understand looking younger than you are…I am 24 and am usually told that I look like I could be in high school. Sometimes I don’t mind, depending on the individual’s comment, but it got old at work when I was told that every week. I didn’t appreciate it when I would walk away from serving someone and hear them say, “She doesn’t look old enough to work here…”. Someday we will truly appreciate our youthful complexions!

  14. Jenny$1983 says

I did think you were younger despite knowing the schooling you’ve had, but then in the UK we get out of university (for an undergraduate degree) at about 21 and you could even have an MA within two years of that! I like the other Jennys’ comments of being “youthful”: I think that counts for an awful lot as it’s in your attitude and how you comport yourself. You look happy in your pictures too, and I always think that takes a few years off 🙂

I’m twenty-eight and most people are surprised when I tell them that; a couple of years ago a bus driver wanted to give me a concessionary fare, when I had my glasses on and my hair scraped back, which I always thought aged me, haha! Once I did get “I thought you were in your thirties” which the lad who told me seemed to think was a compliment as he was trying to chat me up … wrong way to go entirely! 😀

  15. Anja says

    Hey Katie,
yes, you DO look younger than 25! 🙂 And luckily, people still do not guess my age right. Hehe. I was happy to read that you are a Michelle Pfeiffer fan. She is just gorgeous!
I love your recipes and love your Larabars!
Have a wonderful celebration and read you soon.
    Anja

    • Chocolate-Covered Katie says

Maybe because you’re a mom? I always think people who are moms are older… probably because they just seem so mature and responsible… or maybe I subconsciously don’t want to think about the fact that I’m old enough to be a mom too!

  16. Melissa says

Well, yes you look young, but that’s a good thing! And 25 sounds right to me, but probably because I’ve been reading your blog and know that you’re much more mature than a teenager! 🙂

Oh, and prettyful is totally a word.

  17. Brandie says

HAPPY BIRTHDAY (on Tuesday), maybe I’ll say it over and over for a few days lol!

People usually guess me 5-10 years younger than I am, which i am A-O-K with! My parents both have baby-faces, and I’ve gotten younger than true life guesses for my whole life. My mom’s in her early 50’s and people still guess her in her mid to late thirties! People always think we’re sisters when we go out. 🙂

What kind of sprinkles do you use? I want to make funfetti SOMETHING! They all look so cute! 🙂

    • Chocolate-Covered Katie says

Usually just the generic grocery-store brand. I figure it’s just a tablespoon, so really how much partially-hydrogenated oil is going to hurt if you have a sprinkle or two, ya know? But they do make a brand called “Let’s Do Organic” that is all-natural (more expensive though).

  18. The Teenage Taste says

Happy Almost Birthday, Katie! You definitely look younger than 25, but I would go as far to say that you look 12! I’d say you look 21-22ish.
As for me, people usually guess my age within a year or two. Bor-ing! 😕

  19. Victoria @ Pursuit of Hippieness says

I can’t believe you’re going to be 25! But I can relate… I’m almost 20 and people usually guess I’m about 16. It used to bother me but the way I see it now is that in 10 years I will be soooo happy that I look younger than I actually am! My sister’s 24 now and she LOVES getting carded! Hahaha

  20. Lilly says

Happy birthday soon!!! I knew you were in your tewenties. I am too and people think I am in high school all the time. Yeah, let’s just hope this youthful trait sticks and we will be the youngest looking grandmas ever 🙂

  21. saskia says

    oh, how i understand you!
i’m going on 19 now, and people often think i’m about 17..
the funny thing is, when i was about 11 i was always thought to be older, like, 14 or so!
so it seems as if it just turned ’round..but as you said, one day looking younger is gonna be a very good thing for a lady! 😉

    best wishes for your birthday,
    enjoy it!

    greetz,
    s.

  22. Connie says

Happy almost birthday! I notice whipped cream in a lot of your pictures, but I’ve never had good luck with soyatoo or rice whip. Have you ever tried mimicreme? I’ve heard good things about it!

    • Chocolate-Covered Katie says

I’ve not tried it! And ugh, don’t get me started on Soyatoo! It always stops up and refuses to come out. I’ve stopped buying it. I usually just make my own now; either my vegan whipped cream recipe or my coconut cool whip one. Neither is swirly like Soyatoo, but at least they don’t stop up and waste $5!

  23. alejandra says

I’m 23 and people always think I’m like 18, someone even told me I looked 16! It used to bother me a lot, but I guess its a good thing, and I’m finally getting used to it, I actually have fun looking at people’s faces when I tell someone my age ha ha. Happy birthdaaaaaay! 🙂

  24. Aja says

No one ever knows how old I am. Whenever I go to restaurants I’m always asked if I’m old enough to drink. Sometimes I’m just offered the wine and I go, “um, I’m underage.” It is totally okay to make your own birthday dessert (referring to your Tweet yesterday). I’m making mine this year. Anyway, have a happy birthday! 🙂

  25. Lauren B. says

After reading your blog for a little while, I figured you were about 21 or 22, since you recently got out of school (right?).

People always think I am 24, when I am really 31! I used to NOT appreciate it until a few years ago… now I am flattered! I know that I will probably always look younger than I am, which is a gift! Beats the alternative! 🙂

  26. Emilia says

    Happy (almost) birthday 🙂

People generally tend to think I’m younger than I actually am, possibly because I’m not that tall? Don’t really know why! It only annoys me when I’m in America and people card me to drink…oh well. I’m sure soon I’ll be happy to look younger (hopefully)

  27. Eric Jaffa says

I hope you post a picture of yourself from this Tuesday, so that we can say, “That is what she looked like on the day she turned 25.”

  28. Katie @ Peace Love and Oats says

omg funfetti was my favorite thing in the world during college. haha pre-healthy. I’ll have to give some of these recipes a try! And everyone ALWAYS thinks that I’m younger than I actually am, so like you, I hope this pays off when I’m older.

  29. Gina G says

Happy almost birthday! 🙂 To tell ya the truth I am not suprised at all, you do look younger, but hey so do I! (and a lot of people!)
I always get told I look younger than I am. I am 19 going on 20 and have been asked if I was 14 or 15 (more than once). Oh and this one time when I went to pay for my gas at the gas station the woman asked me for my license and before I gave it to her she started laughing with the other employee and said just kidding. But hey as my brother told me, we will probably be grateful for it when we are older and look like Michele Pfeiffer 😉

    Have an amazing day girl!

  30. Amber K says

    HAPPY EARLY BIRTHDAY!!

I would have guessed 22 actually. I am ALWAYS mistaken for much younger. I bought cigarettes for my mom once (she “needed” them) and I was carded. I was like 23 or 24 at the time. I have gotten carded for buying scratch-offs and I am STARED DOWN if I try and buy a bottle of liquor.

But then on the other hand, I’ve been called ma’am more times than I care to admit. If people would just make up their mind (am I young, old, what?) then I’d be ok!

  31. Robin says

You do look quite a bit younger than 25. Not an awful lot, I’d say about 20/21. People always think I’m older than I really am. I’m 16, but most people guess my age to be around 18.

Those Sprinkly foods all look so very cute. It reminds me of the soft serves I used to have as a child, I refused to eat them without sprinkles on top.

  32. Julia says

Happy early birthday (to me too, as a fellow Sept. 6th)! People usually either think I’m 19 or 24, but no where in between, but I’m about to turn 23. I figured you were in your early twenties, 25 at most.

  33. Jennifer says

Just yesterday, when I went to the doctor and gave my birthday to the receptionist, she looked at me and said that she couldn’t believe that I was 27. She thought I was her daughter’s age–19. I laughed and said that I teach college sophomores and juniors. That always throws people for a loop!

  34. Katie @ Nutrition in a peanut shell says

You definitely don’t look 25 exactly. I’d say more like 20. But not 16 or 15…and definitely not 12!
    People think I look 12 when I’m 15..it makes me mad 🙂

    Happy almost birthday! <3

  35. Emma (Sweet Tooth Runner) says

People usually think I’m older (I’m tall) until they’ve been around me for a while and realise I act like I’m eight 😛

Oh and your cake batter pizzert was my birthday lunch!!! 😀

P.S. Can’t WAIT for that recipe!! Sounds amaaaazing!!

P.P.S. HAPPY BIRTHDAY FOR TUESDAY my {almost} twin!!

  36. Jen says

When I’m not wearing makeup, a lot of people think I look younger than I am! When I’m dressed up, it’s the opposite. Although, a counterexample to that is the fact that my fiance thought I was a lot older than I was when he first met me, and it was at the gym! I was nineteen at the time, and he thought I was definitely in my twenties.

I’m not surprised that you’re 25, just because I know you’ve already been through a lot of schooling. But even if I didn’t know that, I’m horrible at guessing ages, so I probably still wouldn’t have been shocked. You’re a very youthful 25, but that can only be a good thing later on! 🙂

  37. Sylvia (My Attempt at Balanced Living) says

I get mistaken for younger all the time EVEN THOUGH I have WHITE hairs now!!! I’m only 26, why in the world do I have white hairs now??? I think you look way younger than 25 but honestly 25 is still pretty young. I think I won’t really feel old until my 60s. I’m a freak and actually looking foward to 30 😀 I’m SERIOUSLY looking forward to that double chocolate mouse recipe recipe too.

  38. Lorin says

Happy Birthday!!!! I would think you were about 23, at least in the twenties haha. I’m going to have to make that chocolate cake batter smoothie now that I have a packet of coconut butter, chocolate coconut butter! Yum!

  39. Kinsey says

mmm can’t wait for the birthday treat 🙂 and no worries i once got the comment “you look your age (20) but you have a 12 year olds body.” I still am not sure how i was supposed to have taken that!!!

  40. Kerry says

Happy Birthday!!! I just found your blog, and I’m so excited to try your recipes! Everything looks so delicious! Eating healthy is very important to me, but I still love desserts. Also, I don’t have much of a sweet tooth, so I’m glad to see some recipes that aren’t overly sweet. Now I just have to decide what to try first!

  41. Rachel (tea and chocolate) says

Happy almost birthday! I get mistaken for being younger all the time too. It used to bother me, but not anymore. Though I did get mad when I was on college tours and everyone addressed my younger sister instead of me. She wasn’t even in high school yet!

I’m not surprised you’re 25, though I’ve been reading your blog for a while now so I know about how old you are. (That sounds creepy, but you know what I mean!) I always hear from people that 25 is the best age to be!

  42. Lenna says

Wow, enjoy your birthday and your deliciously certainly delicious cake 🙂 You look younger, but I am not surprised, because I´ve read it yesterday on Emma´s blog that you were 25. Yay, that internet 🙂 Some people think I am 15 when actually I am 25 too 🙂 I think it´s better than if they thought I was 40 :))

  43. Michaela says

I actually thought you were 24, so I was right (until tuesday ;)).
Hopefully you will have a fabulous birthday!
I am always mistake me for looking younger, which usually doesn´t bother me, except it means I have to carry my ID all the time (I forgot my wallet once and they didn´t let me into the club. Sucked big time!). My friend´s brother, who is 28, looks like he is turning 40 soon. THAT is bad!

  44. JennyBakes says

Happy birthday! Have your ears been burning? Some of my friends and I have been trying out your recipes lately, and I’m going to try to see if my idea for Nutella babies will work. Thanks for continuing to give us such creative stuff to play with!

  45. bitt of raw says

I did think you were younger but only because you said you were in college recently. but maybe it was grad school. i am a terrible judge of age though. people used to think i was younger until my wrinkles came on. want some of mine? 😉

    happy birthday! enjoy it!

  46. Lisa says

It’s my birthday on Tuesday as well! I hope you have a great day.

People always think I look younger than I really am as well – maybe it’s something about the 6th 😉

I can’t wait to try this recipe!

  47. Ashley @ My Food 'N' Fitness Diaries says

First of all, Happy Happy Birthday (on Tuesday, of course)!! I’ll probably tell you again, but if you’re like me, week long birthdays are much more fun.

Second of all, all of those funfetti treats are seriously awesome. Those dough balls look amazing (along with everything else). Sprinkles always make everything look so happy! 🙂

  48. Alexandra (Veggin' Out in the Kitchen) says

Awwww HAPPY [almost] BIRTHDAY my sweet friend!! 😀 You have the most amazing birthday ever, you hear? 😉 But really, you do deserve the BEST birthday EVER!! 😀 You’re so super sweet and such an amazing person!

I don’t think you look 25, but I wouldn’t say you look 12 either! Maybe 19? No matter your age, you’re truly gorgeous, and I’m sure that will hold true for you at any age! 🙂

People always think I’m way older that I am! When I was about 11, someone thought I was in college, and when I was 13, I was at my friend’s house and we were playing with their wii fit and it guessed I was 24!! I mean really??? I don’t think I look THAT old! I just hope I’m not always mistaken for being older 😉

All your funfetti foods look super duper incredible! I need to make another cake batter pizzert asap! And I really want to try all your other spinklefull recipes too – anything with sprinkles catches my eye immediately 🙂

Oh and this morning, I made your blueberry pie pancakes with coconut banana butter – SO SUPER GOOD!!! And they really were the fattest pancakes ever! 😛 And then for lunch, I made your snickerdoodle dip! Wow o wow, it was outstanding!! It’s definitely not going to last long – I highly considered grabbing a spoon and just eating the whole bowl of it for lunch… maybe that could be dinner 😉

Also, sorry for not commenting on your last few posts! I read them all, just forgot to comment! But I really loved all the recipes (I want to make the pb cookie dough smoothie so badly!!), and I love your new recipe page! It helped me to find the recipes that I made today in a very timely matter 🙂

Wow, this got long – I guess I had a lot to say… you did say you like long comments, right? Right? 😉

    <3 <3

    • Chocolate-Covered Katie says

Oh my goodness! Never ever ever feel like you have to be sorry for not commenting! As you know, I am the worst about commenting on other blogs :(. I am so grateful to hear from you whenever you have a chance, just because your sweet words light up my computer screen!

  49. Erin says

I’m 22, and recently I’ve been telling people how I “just graduated” and more than a few have responded by asking where I’m attending college in the fall…. which is my awkward cue correct them that I’m actually a college grad… whoops! I thought I looked old enough that being a college grad was a given – guess not! I’ll take that though, because in my own mind I routinely forget that I’m not a teenager anymore

  50. Erica @ For the Sake of Cake says

I’m 25 too! People usually think I look younger than I am, which is fine by me! I feel like I nit-pick & think “Omg I have wrinkles already!” So if someone mistakes me for one of the high schoolers I teach, I’m actually pretty thankful that’s it’s only ME noticing the wrinkles! 🙂

  51. Alison says

Woohoo! Reppin’ the September birthdays! I’ll be 26 on the 26th haha…cannot believe it, I still feel like I was just 22. And I honestly thought you were around 20-22 (I can be bad at guessing age…but it’s because I don’t look my age AT ALL haha)…people still think I’m 22ish…I also love chocolate…see what I’m getting at? Chocolate=youthful appearance? Haha;) But in all seriousness…I’ll say happy 25th to you now because I can get caught up once the work week starts! But I’ll make sure to have something in your honor…I got around to trying out my coconut oil in some of your chocolate coconut banana butter/fudge frosting…BLOWN AWAY.

Who’d have thought something so simple could actually come out like buttercream frosting without the butter or tons of powdered sugar added into it? So I just had to confirm that A: coconut oil will work (I cut it down to 3 tbsp and had used a whole medium banana) and B: you haven’t let me down with recipes yet (like you could concoct a terrible recipe…let’s be real here, won’t happen)! Have a great birthday!!

    • Chocolate-Covered Katie says

Hahahaha oh you should ask my mom… she has spit out things I’ve made before. And she’s not nice about it, either! No sparing my feelings! The other day, she spit out a cookie and said it tasted like cardboard. LOL it’s nice to have people who will tell you the truth… even if the truth hurts ;). Then again, she didn’t like the blondies… so sometimes I don’t listen to her tastebuds!

  52. Nichole says

Happy almost Birthday!! When I first started reading your blog, I totally thought you were 14 (sorry!), but after hearing you talk about graduating college, I realized you were older. Some people, especially tiny people like you, just look a lot younger. its a good thing though. People always think I look younger too (same with my mom, that’s where I get it from), but I appreciate it. Because I would much rather be 16 than 21 anyway 😡 so maybe I’ll just pretend I’m younger from now on. This summer, a man asked me what grade I was going into. I started laughing in his face 😡 and told him I’m a senior in college.

  53. ~Jessica~ says

To me you look about 20, but that’s a compliment!

People always mistake me for being younger than I am due to my blonde hair, chubby cheeks and hobbit-like stature. I have had the ‘so, where are your parents?’ remarks and have been mistaken routinely for 12 or 13, despite being 25. So you’re not alone!

Happy Chocolate-Covered Birthday!!! Your dessert makes me hungry just thinking about it 😉

You’re going to be 25?! You look like you could still be in high school! I wish people thought I looked younger than I really am; I’m only 14 but some people think I’m 18 or older.

  55. emma says

Hehee! I often get new patients coming into the surgery saying, “YOU’RE my dentist??” “Are you old enough to be pulling my teeth out?” 🙂 I love it! I’d say you look around 21 so yeah, younger than your real age 🙂

  56. Albizia says

Honestly, I thought you were a little younger than me but obviously we are the same age and you are a month older than me 🙂 . I should know your age because I have been a follower for quite a long time but the problem is that in my head people stop aging after we meet for the first time (in person or not).

When I was a teenager it was easy to convince people that I was older because of my height. It was harder to make them believe the opposite – that I am actually 15 and I am not supposed to make out with 30-year-old men. Awkward! Now most people think I am younger than I am and I am fine with it.

  57. Liz @ iheartvegetables says

Happy early birthday!! Everyone thinks I’m younger too! I guess we just have young looking faces! But that will be a good thing when were older!! Haha I love all your cake batter recipes I’m going to make the milkshake tonight!

  58. Averie @ Love Veggies and Yoga says

Happy Bday!!! A few days early and I hope you take this week and turn it into a Bday WEEK! 🙂

The cake batter recipes all have me really happy. Something about seeing all those sprinkles and funfetti just do it for me.

When I was growing up, people always thought I was much older than I really was b/c I have always been tall. So they think, oh she’s as tall as a 5th grader (but I was in 1st grade!) and expected me to have that maturity level and be around that age.

The same thing is already happening w/ Skylar b/c she’s at the 99th percentile for height for age already, too!

  59. Chelsea says

Happy early birthday, Katie! Mine is also on Tuesday, and I’ll be (a whopping) 22 years old! Problem is, my family has always made the same 1-2-3-4 cake for EVERY birthday (and everyONE’s birthday) for 30+ years.

I started adding permanent changes to create a healthy lifestyle at the beginning of this summer, and was wondering if you have a dessert recipe you recommend to make for my birthday – to celebrate both my birth and my journey to a healthier life.

    Any suggestions? Thanks! 🙂

My husband and I were at a Sandals resort when I was 25 and the piano bar lady said, “Child, are you even old enough to be at Sandals?” She was rather creepy so I wasn’t flattered. I’m 30 now and people usually think I’m your age. Must be the vegan diet! 🙂

I would have guessed you’re 21 or so, since you talked about being done with school. You don’t look 25!

  61. Errign says

I’m 23 and once when I was 19, a flight attendant asked me to move out of the exit row because you had to be 15 to sit there…people still think I’m super young now!

  62. Jess says

congrats katie; i had a birthday about a week ago (i turned 20) i wasn’t so excited though. i assumed you were in your early-mid twenties b/c you mentioned college, and possibly taking a break. otherwise, i could believe you being mistaken for 18 or 19. i get roughly 14-16 myself, at my worst 11 (yeah…idk). fat baby face here, which explains part of it. excited for new recipes :).

  63. chelsey @ clean eating chelsey says

    Happy birthday beautiful girl!

I think you look a wee bit younger than 25, but guess what! That just means that you are going to look smashing when you’re middle aged and we’re all wrinkly and cursing you because you look younger. I hope you get lots and lots of chocolate! 🙂

People have always thought I looked older, but now I think I look about my age. I act much more mature though so that might be aging me.

  64. radioactivegan says

Happy (nearly) birthday! 25 is not too much different from 24; I think you’ll like it 😉

I’m 28 and someone recently asked me if I was in high school. I guess I wouldn’t be so frustrated with that if it didn’t come with a significant dose of not being taken seriously! But when I’m 45 and finally look 28, I think I’ll be able to deal with it 🙂

  65. ashley says

HAPPY EARLY BIRTHDAY!!!! You dont look 25 but thats a good thing. You look so youthful and pretty, im super jealous of your glowing skin!! People always say I look 2-3 years younger than I am too and Im always offended. I love all these recipes, Funfetti is one of my favorite foods 🙂

  66. Rebecca says

You do look young. Must be all those healthy desserts 😉 I’m the same way-I’m 24 and always get mistaken for being younger than I am. I was actually at the bank the other day with my mom and the teller gave me a sucker thinking I was 12. Nope, I’ve been coming here for almost ten years!

  67. Victoria says

I thought you were some where between 21-23. I can’t believe your going to be 25! Everyone always thinks I’m a lot younger than I am. Recently someone guessed 13 when I am in fact 18. It could have something to do with my love of wearing rompers.

  68. Lindsay @ biking before bed says

Happy birthday! Your birthday cake sounds delicious. I look forward to the recipe. You make funfetti boxed cake look bland and boring with all your sprinkle filled goodies. Pilsbury watch out! I always get mistaken for younger. I got asked by the flight attendant if I was old enough to sit in the exit row when I was 22. Apparently the age requirement is 16:)

  69. BroccoliHut says

People always mistake me for younger than I am. When I was about 20, I remember hopping out of my car to go to the grocery store, and this lady in the parking lot said, “There’s no way you could be old enough to drive!” Thanks. I have been for FOUR years.

  70. Kristin @ STUFT Mama says

You are too funny (and I REALLY have ot try these milkshakes). 🙂 I taught middle school PE for 10 years and everyone thought I was one of the students. Ha! Now, I feel like I look old. Motherhood will do that to you I guess or maybe it’s because I never sleep. 🙂 You’ll look ten times better than Michelle Pfeifer because you eat this amamzing food!

  71. Julia says

    Happy almost birthday!

My birthday is in exactly a week. I’ll be twenty-one… I’m surprised you’re older than me, you look so young (and gorgeous)!

  72. Marianne says

I’ll admit, I’m surprised you are turning 25. I would have thought a couple years younger, but I’m horrible with ages.

And yes, many people think I’m younger than I am. And I’m okay with that – when you get up there in age like I am, you definitely like those kind of mistakes 😀

  73. kaila @ healthy helper! says

When I talk people think I am older than I am but if they’re just looking at me they think I’m younger! I guess I speak more maturely lol!

  74. Ulya says

Oh, I thought you were 21 or something, just because you said you finished college. Otherwise, you look like 18. I’ll be 22, but for some people I look like I’m going to high school, though some others think I’m 24-25.
Overall, looking younger is always a good thing. My mom looks younger too, everybody thinks she is my older sister:)

  75. Kaitlyn@TheTieDyeFIles says

Happy (almost) birthday! A few months ago I thought I was getting old (23), until I realized everyone else in my grad program was much older, some married with kids! I don’t feel so old. I’m short and skinny so I always get mistaken for younger. People think my 21 year old brother is older!

  76. Holly @ The Runny Egg says

I love these desserts — what a nice way to celebrate your almost birthday 🙂

I did think you were younger than 25 but not by much, maybe 22-23. People usually think I am younger than I am — I am 27 — although it has been a long time since I’ve been carded, so I guess I at least look older than 21 🙂

  77. Elise says

Well happy for birthday for Tuesday (I’m not sure when Tuesday begins where you are!). I kinda knew we were around the same age (I’m 23) but I wasn’t sure exactly how old you were! Everyone thinks I’m younger then I am, which is fine, it only annoys me when I buy a whole weeks worth of shopping and a single bottle of wine and I have to dig out my ID. What 17 year old spends £40 on food shopping just for a measly bottle of wine???

  78. Lissy says

happy birthday! My guess would have been 24, so I guess that’s pretty accurate. I mean, I know you’ve been out of school for a while and you seem about the same age as me, but I knew for some reason that you’re a little younger than me… maybe I actually knew how old you were from a previous post or something. I think I’m cheating.

People usually think I’m about 10 years younger than I am. My parents’ neighbor asked me if I went to the local HS. I was wearing my wedding ring too.

  79. Melody says

Since I got my braces and blonder hair, I’ve been mistaken as 12 a few times, haha! When I didn’t have braces and had red hair, it was usually 18! I miss that. 😛

  80. Aisatsana says

Heh…we were born in the same month (of the same year). 🙂 People always assume I’m younger than I am. I had someone tell me last weekend that I looked like I was in 7th grade….grrr. 🙂 I love it when you post a collection of pictures…they are lovely!!!!

  81. Tina says

I had no idea I was the absolutely oldest person reading your blog! Guess I’m the granny at 35! 🙂 Hope your birthday is wonderful!!

  82. L. says

D’aw, you are way older than me than I thought!!! (I thought you were 21. LMAO, I can’t believe I had the audacity to just assume you were my age. I’m such a dork.) I have that problem too. Most people think I look a lot younger than my age–actually they are starting to think that my younger sister is older than me (she’s also taller than me so it doesn’t help).

I loveee Michelle Pfeiffer. So happy you mentioned her. I honestly think with her that it’s genetics. 🙂 Though it could be diet…maybe she loves vegetables and greens….those definitely can stop time! I try to get in as many as I can and I know they help–I can see the results.

I could cry I am so jealous of your birthday dessert. 😛 🙂

    • Chocolate-Covered Katie says

I think I always imagine people being my age too. There’s some psychology term for that, I think… darn it, I can’t think of the term! AP sychology was too long ago (jr yr of hs!). Maybe I’ll think of it at 3am… 😕

          • L. says

Lol and it’s not concrete enough for me to find anything about it on google…Hahahaha oh well.

Confirmation bias–just wikipedia’d that. That sounds close enough to the situation to me!! I’ll google “birthday confirmation bias.”…
…Okay yeah, that got me nowhere…lol. Anyway, I love this term . Very helpful to know because I feel a lot of people do it.

Haha do it!! I’d still be curious!

  83. Maya (Dessert is in a Different Pocket) says

I always get mistaken for being younger. On a flight the other day, the flight attendant said “sweetie you are sitting in the exit row.” When I said that I realized that, she asked if I was older than 15. I’ll be 28 next month…I used to teach 2nd grade and got mistaken for a 6th grader a lot too! Probably because I don’t really wear make up ever?

I would have guessed you were right around 25, but I can see people thinking you are younger too. I think I just knew that you went to college a few years ago and estimated from that 🙂

  84. Stina says

Happy *belated* birthday! I’m new to your blog, and I can’t wait to start trying some of your tasty looking treats!

People always mistake me for being younger than I am. It doesn’t bother me for the most part, but I do start to get irritated when people grossly under estimate my age. The other day, for example, I was signing up for a gym membership, and the guy who was signing me up told me I looked 16! I was a little offended. I may not look 27, and I may not look old enough to buy booze. But I’m fairly certain I at least look old enough to vote or drive a car!

A funnier story about me being taken for younger than I am is when the front desk guy at a resport in Mexico gave my 22 and 17 year old brothers a “you can drink” wristbands and then asked me how old I was. Once he realized I was way older than he though, he asked both my brothers how old they were. The younger one was bummed when they switch his wrist band for one that meant no booze for him!

  85. Maple says

Perhaps it’s kinda really late to be saying this…but Happy Birthday!!

    Answer;
With a flaaaat nose and round eyes, I probably look younger than my age;. I’m 18 but a friend of mine and my sister told me that I look like I’ve just graduated grade school, and I was like, oh, uh, thanks. Actually, I don’t know if that’s a good thing but I suppose they didn’t mean ill. And what matters? I’m still young and looking younger had never done me any harm… though I did wonder at some point if that’s why I don’t have a boyfriend… it has its merits too, like…uh, I think people treat me nicer because I look like a kiddy(and having no sense of fashion, I kinda dress like one too) and they’ll never know exactly how old I am unless I tell them..they treat me like a kiddy.Yuppy.

  86. Nancy says

This just showed how popular you really are! I was quite curious about your age (you’re right, I did guess you were a bit younger, although I get the same thing from everyone!!), so I googled, and when I had only typed “how old is choc….” and google brought up Chocolate Covered Katie! Nice to be so well known!

  87. Ayanah Hunt says

Ayanah (7yo) I like the cupcakes. I wish i could make them.
Amira (5yo) I wish that i could make rainbow cupcakes.
Jess (25yo) We are looking through your recipes and trying to decide which one to cook today. Both of the girls wanted to let you know how much they like the look of your foods.

  88. Jen says

Haha this is an almost 3-year late comment, but I know what you mean about the looking younger thing…. I’m 16 and look like 13 or so. Last year, when I was a Freshman in high school, I went with my friend to her teacher conferences (she’s a year younger, so she was at the junior high). One of her teachers asked if I was her little sister, and another asked if I was “in sixth grade now”. Very awkward! When I was around 1 or 2 or whatever, I looked like a newborn, and my parents said that everyone was shocked when I was walking around the store or sidewalk haha! And when I was in fifth grade, this older girl kept insisting that I was in third grade (her little sister’s age). She kept asking a bunch of my friends and still insisted that we were all lying! Haha! But oh we’ll, what can ya do? :-p
