Who wouldn’t demand to see more pictures of this face?

batman and me

No, not my face.

This face:

black dog

And this face:

sleeping dog

Batman’s face.

And ears. Remember those ears?

Yes, he is officially Batman now. While I was debating what to call him, he got used to Batman! (My sister says that when she comes to visit, she is going to call him Javier! LOL)

He looks quite calm, yes? Wrong! This puppy is crazy. One of his favorite things to do is dart around the house as fast as his feet can go, not even stopping when he collides with the furniture. Henry (my other dog) looks at me like, “What is with that dog??”

Methinks he needs a cape.

I added a stevia option for the Cookie Dough Dip.

And a sweet reader just left a comment with recipe suggestions on how to make a lower-sugar deep-dish cookie pie as well (currently, it’s the very last comment on the ddcp page, if you’re interested).

Tomorrow’s post really will be chocolate-covered…

  5. Ohmygod! He totally should have a cape. After all, he IS Batman! 😀 He looks sooo sweet. I love him!!!!

  6. Awwwww, he’s adorable!!! I love that he’s so rambunctious!
And he definitely needs a cape, at least for halloween!

  7. Patricia says:

He’s a real beauty. Thanks for the update. I’ve been wondering how he’s doing. Next we’ll be needing some Batman and Henry pics! I adore your blog, I like dessert, and I particularly LOVE animals. This is a real win, win, win for me!

  8. Anonymous says:

Super puppy to the rescue! (he just rescued me from feeling low whilst doing a science assignment)

    & super super cute!

    1. Jennyb says:

hmm seems i forgot who i was!

      1. LOL too much science? 😉

It’s ruining your memory! See, I always knew science class was bad for us!

  9. I like Batman – I think it suits him perfectly.

Looks like he’s settling in very well. Congrats on the new addition Katie! :-)

  10. Aww so cute! He’s got sad eyes!

I’m hosting a stevia giveaway today – perfect for cookie dough dip :)

  11. Megan says:

He is such a sweet puppy! He reminds me of a dog my therapist adopted who is also part Chihuahua…but her dog was rescued from a puppy mill and is extremely timid. I love the name Batman! How old is he? I just love dogs!!!!

    1. They said he was around 1 when I got him. (But it’s just an estimate)

      1. Rachel Lauren says:

He is so cute! Batman is a great name. My kitten, Mochi, is totally insane too. Endless energy. Especially at 7am. He’s a nut she will run all over th house jumping up in the window sills and then back off to run down the hall. She’s funny. Glad things are going well with batman!

  12. Moni'sMeals says:

BATMAN, we love you!! SO adorable Katie, I mean just look at his face. :)

  13. Crystal says:

I loved that first picture until I noticed your shirt–booooo, I’m a Cardinals fan!! Just when I thought you were my favorite blogger…just kidding :) Batman is sooo cute!

    1. Haha that photo is from the day after the Rangers clinched the title.

Good luck to your team in the Series! (Although, let’s be honest… neither one of us really wishes the other team good luck, right? ;))

  14. I just posted on my new rescued pup too! :) AW!

  15. Gen says:

What an adorable puppy!!! I recently got a kitten and she is so energetic that my other cat gets tired just looking at her! hahahaha

  16. Great pictures of you both! I like that I can see your face so clearly, Katie, and of course you’re beautiful. Batman is just adorable!!! Puppies have so much energy, it’s ridiculous. We wouldn’t have made it through puppyhood with ours without the help of a doggie daycare to help her get all that energy off. It saved our sanity. :)

    1. Ooh doggie daycare… that’s a really good idea! I feel so sorry for Batman that Henry doesn’t want to play!

      1. It helps so much, but there are some bad daycares out there where they don’t treat the dogs kindly so be careful for any signs that Batman isn’t enjoying himself. And be sure to stay there during the first visit to help ease him into the new environment. We had a WONDERFUL experience with the one we went to until it changed management. We don’t know what that guy did to our girl, but she is no longer friendly with people and doesn’t trust them unless they talk to her in the baby voice I use. She used to be so excited to go, but after the management changed, she would try to leave as soon as we were through the door, her tail between her legs. :( But if you find a good one, it can be a Godsend! Jessie was chewing the walls and digging up plants and getting into all sorts of mischief, but a couple hours a day at daycare calmed her down a LOT.

  17. Val says:

Aww he is so cute!!! Are you really going to call him Batman? I think its an adorable name!
Also I have a request for you, or a favour really. Since you are so good at making delish guilt free healthy desserts I thought I’d ask you, rather than try 100 things that don’t work out haha. I’m in a study group and every week someone else brings some snacks. I would really like to bring something yummy, but healthy but one person in the group can’t eat gluten and another person in vegan, so I’m kind of stumped. The other challenge is that it should be easily portable and easy to eat while studying (so forks and plates are kind of out the question). Up for the challenge haha?

    1. Good news! ALL of my recipes are vegan, and most can be gluten-free:

I’m giving you the link so you can browse. Off the top of my head, some good portable ones include: fudge babies, blondies, and the flourless chocolate-chip cookies :).
(If you go with something that has oats, make sure to buy certified-gf oats and chocolate chips.)

      1. Val says:

        Thanks so much!! You’re awesome!!

  18. Yay! You picked Batman. Good for you! Bravo!

PS Tell your sister if she doesn’t honor Batman, you’ll rename her first born 😉

    1. LOL!!!
Hmmm… now to think of some really unfortunate baby names…

  19. Melanie says:

My 6mo old puppy does the running at full speed thing into furniture too. Only problem is she’s a german shepherd and can send the couch sliding across the tile pretty far.

  20. Sarah says:

Yay for Batman! He is obviously a popular kid. Maybe you should give him his own Facebook page… who knows, he may surpass Lady Gaga’s number of followers :) Just sayin’

By the way Katie, i suscribe to the Wall Street Journal and yesterday they had a front page, yes, FRONT PAGE article on vegan bakers/bakeries and vegan pastries in general. I thought you’d like to read it so i (finally!) found the online version.

Enjoy!- oh and tell me what you think, please :)

    1. Wow, that’s seriously exciting!!! It’s so awesome how far veganism has come. Now, when people say I’m a weirdo, I can tell them that at least I am in good company. With people like Ellen DeGeneres and Bill Clinton going vegan, it’s slowly becoming much more mainstream :).

  21. Meredith says:

I’m soooo glad I’ve found your blog….so so glad. ;0)

  22. Alyssa says:

CUTE! Batman’s looking for bad guys to chase, apparently.

  23. Lilly says:

You both are SO adorable!! Great pictures :) I know this is random, but what type of dog food do you feed your pups? I know how pro-animals you are so I thought you would be a great person to ask.

    1. I’m embarrassed to admit I really haven’t done much research yet into vegetarian diets for dogs. I always said when I got out on my own, I would feed them vegetarian diets. Right now they’re both getting Newman’s Own food. I really do need to get around to researching it more… and hopefully finding some good vegan-friendly options that are also not super-expensive, for the future.

  24. Elle says:

Hi Katie! I need your help! With a large supply of harvested apples, I was wondering if you would be so kind to craft up a single-serving, low sugar, vegan/gluten free apple crisp? :)

    1. I’ll put it on my to-do list… but honestly, that list is SO long I don’t know if I will get around to it :(. I do have some apple crumble bars I want to post soon, though!

  25. Cuties!! Yummm can’t wait for tommorow :)

  26. Katie – I know you probably get this a lot but you are so mesmerizingly pretty!
And batman is adorable – you should totally get him a cape for Halloween :)

    1. Thank you SO much!! Really, I am actually pretty shy, and I don’t like posting photos of myself! So it’s always so wonderful to hear something nice.

  27. Kit-Kat says:

Yay for you on choosing “Batman” as your puppy’s name! I think it fits perfectly! I wish I had a puppy, since my two collies have recently passed away :`~(
And I hope Henry gets along with Batman pretty well?
You should put up at least one week’s worth of posts full of doggy desserts…..that would be awesome! It would be even more awesome if you made dog desserts to accompany people desserts; you know, look-alikes so both doggy-master can have a similar “share the moment” dessert!

    Katie …..

Thanks for updates with little Batman + sharing new pics! Everyone is thrilled to see your latest charge once again! Lots of other folks did not realize you had rescued Batman.

Yes …. for sure, I know about poochies running all over the house …. non-stop, until they are breathless. Our Gidget does that everyday! So did our sweet Jamie-boy (rest in peace …. we miss you) go nutso. They have all this energy ….. then, they love to plop into your arms! Love it.

Batman looks great …. healthy and he has a nice shine to his coat. I think he loves you Katie!

I had previously suggested the name INKY. Also, for a tiny pup …. BEAN is cool. We will all learn to love Batman! Haha!!

    ENJOY ….. !

P.S. We are looking to adopt/rescue again. Older poochies are good to find. They need second chances in life.

    1. Awww you are so wonderful for looking to adopt an older dog. I am too selfish for it… I don’t want to go through the pain of falling in love with a dog and then having to say goodbye so soon. Even with puppies, I wish they lived much longer. It’s always too soon.

  29. LOVE the name Batman! That just makes him the coolest pooch on the block! yay!

  30. How cute!!! My brand new kitten is so rambunctious too. Even at 3am when all I want to do is sleep!

  31. CUTE!!!! I love Batman’s little sleepy face.

  32. Batman! What a perfect name for him. He’s so adorable!

  33. Natasha says:

Nanna nanna nanna nanna BATMAN! – that was the theme song to the original show FYI. The name fits perfectly.
He also has monkey eyes…you know…the kind that look at everything with intrigue, and soulfulness (sp?)…I have been begging Rob for another doggie – from the shelter of course…but – I’m due to have surgery soon, so, until my recovery – I will have to live through you!

  34. naomi says:

    Gotta love crazy dogs!
I have started using Coconut crystals and coconut nectar (syrup) as a sweetener. It is low glycemic, gmo free and gluten free. It has a nice flavor, very much like brown sugar. The company is Coconut Secret.

  35. Krysta says:

Batman is the perfect name! I was hoping you’d stick to it. I’m a new follower as of about 4 days ago. I am on a candida cleanse but stevia is allowed sometimes. I made your voluminous ice cream with it and loved it. Thanks!

    1. Aww, I’m so glad you found my site! :)

  36. Runnergirl says:

He is darling………..but your shirt is not!!!!! I live in Ranger territory but am from STL so GO CARDS!!!!!!! But sure we can wish each other luck but then hope our own team wins :) So here goes……..GOOD LUCK and GO CARDS !!!!!!

  37. Two beautiful faces!!!! 😀

We just adopted a Chiweenie last month and I see a lot of Chihuahua in him. So cute.

    1. If chiweenies aren’t the cutest things EVER, their name certainly is!

  38. Ashley says:

aww what a cutie!! Im so glad you posted more pics of your puppy :)

  39. He’s SO cute! His name is very appropriate!

  40. Kit-Kat says:

Thought I would re-post by saying I tried the recipe for the lace cookies on my friend….. We both enjoyed them so much! I added some dark chocolate chunks to my cookies, and it intensified the chocolate flavor. Yay for dark chocolate, the food of lovers!
Say, I could not help but notice, but are you a Texas Rangers fan? I love baseball!
And another thing: For applesauce in a recipe, is it alright to sub it with mashed banana? I’m not one for applesauce, although I love apples to bits. Just wondering!
    Thanks for your recipes!

    1. Aww yay! Another girl who loves baseball!! I wish you lived closer to me… we could watch games together (and eat chocolate cookies!!). All my other girl friends think baseball is boring. (Luckily, they do like cookies, though :).)

I think it depends on the recipe, but yeah usually it’s an even sub :).

      1. Kit-Kat says:

And I do wish we lived closer…. but I’m in Washington State, lol! Bet you can’t guess what baseball team we root for…… yeah, the Seattle Mariners. Although I’m a die-hard Yankee nut. I am going for the Rangers this World Series, though. I’ll be baking a batch of your brownies and making volumous ice cream so I can eat those during the ball games; there are plusses to being a biker, and that is you can eat more! :~) And your food rocks!
        Goooooooo Rangers!

  41. Okay- he is too darn cute (and so are you). :) I have to tell you that my brother-in-law has a full-on Batman costume and dresses up for parties and such. I’ll have to send you a picture. He even has his own bat mobile. ha ha! Hugs to your new little man!

  42. Yes, I have demanded to see more photos of BOTH those beautiful faces!! Batman is GORGEOUS, as is his Mommy! :) And I plan on making your cookie dough dip tomorrow…or your pumpkin cookies…aaaah decisions!!

  43. Anita says:

    Congratulations ! He’s adorable.

  44. Jeanie says:

You have a cute doggie! In fact, you both are cute!
I love reading your posts everyday!

  45. Aja says:

    Such a cute puppy!

  46. carly says:

oh my goodness! how old is batman?? i think my chihuahua puppy is going to look like that when she grows up! she’s only 2 months old right now. if you go to my blog you’ll see a bunch of pictures of here because i’m more or less obsessed.

    1. They think he’s around 1. It’s hard to tell with a rescue dog. But he’s full-size… and still so tiny!

  47. Erin says:

That is a beautiful picture of you! And of course, Batman is the cutest thing in the world. :)

    1. Aww Erin, thank you so much!

  48. You look lovely and so happy Katie! Love the name Batman as well. I do love funny names for funny little puppies. I have a friend who has 2 dogs. One is Swayze (after Patrick) and the other is Bacon (after Kevin).. the kings of dance (apparently). They are so funny and they make me smile every time I think of them :)

  49. you look so glowing! love the picture of u and your dog of course :) i love puppies!

  50. nannanananananaanana batmannnn

  51. Brooke says:

  52. Sarah says:

    He is absolutely presh!

  53. Maya says:

What a cutie!!! I love the name too.

  54. Kathy says:

Oh my gosh – batman is totally adorable. Yes, you are right. We want to see more of his spunky mug!! So precious. If he is anything like my little dog, he is a psycho.

  55. AWWHHH!!!! Katie, you two complement each other so beautifully! You guys were made for each other.

  56. Beverly Milley says:

  57. Kenzie says:

My dog looks EXACTLY like him!!! It’s crazy! Only difference is that mine is a girl!
