Seventeen Healthy Super Bowl Recipes

Did you know that on Super Bowl Sunday, Americans consume more food than on any other day of the year except Thanksgiving? It even beats out Christmas!

Coming up tomorrow, I still have one more new recipe to post (either a brownie recipe or caramel popcorn) before the Super Bowl. In the meantime, I’ve burrowed into my archives to pull out the recipes best for a healthy Super Bowl party menu—from appetizers to dessert. Or… You don’t mind if I start with dessert, do you?

Healthy Super Bowl Desserts:

bean blondies

………………..Chocolate-Chip Blondies

Gooey, fudgey bars that are loaded with chocolate chips and are always a hit with vegetarians and carnivores alike.

fg pb

……….Peanut Butter Cookie Dough Cookies

You might already know this is one of my favorite recipes on the blog. They’re even boyfriend-approved! Not necessarily a good thing, as it means I have to share.

rice crispy treats

………………5-Minute Rice Crispy Treats

A kid-friendly recipe that’s super quick and easy to make.

chocolate macadamia cookies

…………Macadamia Chocolate Chip Cookies

My go-to recipe for chocolate chip cookies that come out perfect every time. Make them right before the game, so they’re hot from the oven and the house smells like chocolate!

Brownie Batter Dip

…………………..Brownie Batter Dip

Great served with pretzels, fruit, or graham crackers.

cookie dough dip

……………………Cookie Dough Dip

The obvious. But I couldn’t write this post and not include it, as it’s the one dessert I recommend above all others for anyone who wants to bring a dish people will still be talking about long after the party is over. If you only have time to make one dessert this Sunday, make this dip. It will not fail you.

vegan chocolate truffles

………………5 Minute Chocolate Truffles

Healthy Super Bowl Snacks:

pizza hummus

…………………..Pizza Hummus

Pizza is one of the top two foods consumed on Super Bowl Sunday. Although I don’t have my entire menu planned out yet, pizza hummus is on the list of things I’ll definitely be making next week.

healthy guacamole

………………….Low-Fat Guacamole

You’ll be shocked at the starring ingredient!

pin poppers

……………………Chickpea Poppers

Great for popping straight into your mouth.

Or throwing at the tv when the other team scores a touchdown.

pumpkin dip

……………..Pumpkin Cheesecake Dip

Serve with gingersnaps or apple slices.

meatless chili

………………Best Meatless Chili Ever

Another definite on my Super Bowl menu this year.

sweet potato chili

…………………..Sweet Potato Chili

One can never have enough chili.

cornbread

………………….Flourless Cornbread

To go with all the chili!

tater tots

…………………Healthy Tater Tots

Bite-sized healthy snacks from The Superfood Kitchen cookbook that are almost as adorable as they are delicious.

vegan sloppy joes

………………….Healthy Sloppy Joes

vegan mac and cheese

……………….Vegan Mac and Cheese

Seriously creamy comfort food. The recipe, courtesy of Dreena Burton, is perfect for Super Bowl Sunday or any day. I make this recipe a lot!

For tomorrow’s post:

Popcorn or brownies?

Maybe I should just come up with caramel popcorn brownies. Then you wouldn’t have to choose…

I’m posting a similar super bowl roundup today! For some reason planning a party like this and suprising my guest with vegan treats is so exciting to me. Perhaps I wont even tell them whats vegan or not!

  2. Courtney says

I’m definitely looking forward to a caramel popcorn recipe! Popcorn is my favorite and I just know you will make it especially great!

  3. Gigi says

POPCORN!!!!! Pretty please with caramel on top? As much as I love brownies, I haven’t had a good caramel popcorn in a long time and now have the sudden urge to make some.

  4. Sunnie says

Caramel-Popcorn Brownies! I would eat those. 🙂 A little soft, a little crunchy, a little gooey from the caramel . . . why not? 😉

But if I must vote . . . POPCORN! 😀 I haven’t made popcorn in forever, and your recipes always motivate me.

  5. Erin | The Law Student's Wife says

I had no idea people ate more on the Super Bowl than even Christmas!! Good thing we’ve got a healthy arsenal of options right here 🙂 The brownie batter dip looks especially inticing(hence, my vote is BROWNIES) and I LOVE chili while watching a football game.

  6. Sarah the official CCK drooler says

I vote caramel popcorn… self-control gets thrown out the window when I eat that stuff. ever.single.time.
And I just happen to have some popping corn (woop!)
Who are you rooting for this year? (I’m always NYG, but this year I’m going for the forty niners. Ugh, ravens. )

  7. Rebecca W. says

Popcorn!! I’m starting to get into a rut with my usual spices to add to popcorn and it would be great to mix it up!

  8. Andie says

POPCORN!!! Tough choice…Normally I would say brownies, but you already have multiple (delicious) brownie recipes already and it would be neat to see popcorn! Hopefully my chocolate addiction can wait until then…

  9. Emilia says

Maybe it’s just because I’m really hungry, but each recipe looks amazing! I wish I was having a superbowl party so I could serve them. The pizza hummus would probably be at the top of my list, but I’d definitely also be serving the healthy tater tots and no-bake peanut butter cookies. Thanks for posting the round up, I always forget about so many amazing recipes that you have!

  10. Sherlock says

I’m actually going to make your chocolate pie thingy with garbanzo beans. I have made it many times when guests were over and they loved it. But I didn’t know you had a chili recipe I just might make that for myself. Looks so good!
I’m just so glad you’re a food blogger whose food is very good and you use real ingredients most of the time. Unlike many other bloggers who can’t seem to make a dessert without using some sort of fake, processed ingredient. You’re a needle in a hay stack Katie and I found ya! *score*

  11. Leslie Sweet says

I feel sort of like I’m cheating on brownies by saying this, so please don’t tell them…but I’d really love the popcorn recipe. And now I feel dirty…sorry brownies.

  12. sara @ fitcupcaker says

yum, I want to make those chickpea poppers 🙂 All of these look delicious! Too bad I am not cooking for superbowl, or I would make all of these!!

  13. Maya says

    Yum!

I have 2 totally random, unrelated questions for you 🙂

    1) Have you ever tried chocolate coconut water? It is amazing. If not, you should given your love of both!
    2) Do you have a recipe for your Italian grandma’s vegan pasta? I’ve only ever made it with flour and eggs, so I’m not sure what would replace the eggs in a vegan version. (I’m assuming she makes homemade noodles?)

  14. Lisa says

These are all great ideas! Especially since I’ll be attending quite a few parties:) I think brownies! Since I have a bit of a corn sensitivity so popcorn is a no go for me;)

  15. Katia says

Despite my love of chocolate, I’ll vote Carmel corn. I already have your delicious pumpkin brownie recipe. I look forward to watching the Puppy Bowl with kitten half time show. Something about hedgehogs this year too,

  16. trajayjay says

I’ve yet to hear from popcorn on this blog, but I know that there are several recipes for brownies: black bean, gooey and fudgey, blondies. Popcorn plz

  17. kris says

Caramel popcorn brownies!!!!!!!! Katie, you have to make these…I bet they would be super delicious and something totally unique! Even better, what about a single serving size as well…I love your single serving recipes!

  18. kimmythevegan says

These are great ideas! I make the exact same chili recipe every time I make chili. It’s super tasty, but it’s good to switch it up. I look forward to trying some new eats this weekend. The desserts look fun too.
And popcorn and brownies are both my favourite. So I would not be able to pick just one ;p

    Caramel Popcorn Brownies…..

You did not just say that.

YUUUUMM!!!!! That is super-AWESOME!! I love the sound of that idea – a new twist on sweet-and-salty combos
How about caramel-brownie popcorn? (my brother’s suggestion)

  20. catriona says

Thank you for the vegan mac n cheese recipe, I am going through a dairy elimination diet right now, as I seem to have developed a severe lactose intolerance, and I am mourning my loss of cheese.

  21. Bek @ Crave says

    Brownies!

These recipes look good. I really need to make your cookie dough dip sometime- but when!? I need a special occasion haha.

  22. Sabrina Shaw says

I would really like the caramel popcorn. My friend was just mentioning it would be nice to have something salty and sweet!

  23. Cristina says

I must say, I’ve tried several of your recipes in the past couple of weeks and all of them have been easy to follow and turn out amazing! I’ve made the bean brownies and blondies three times now , and the sweet potato chili twice. My family can’t get enough.

  24. Melanie Solmon says

Katie, you are awesome!! I love your recipes!! I vote to not bother watching the Super Bowl and just make a feast and enjoy!!
You are my food queen hero! I am allergic to gluten dairy and eggs but thanks to your great recipes I can always come up with something delicious to whip up ! Really appreciate all the substitutions! Wish you could have seen my mother’s reaction when she found out the brownies I made had black beans in them! She loved the brownies but can’t stand beans !!

  25. Amanda says

The first photo is of an amazingly yummy looking brownie thing but the link is for blondies. :/ Can you fix it so that the link goes to the food item in the picture?

  26. jen says

What a great source of inspiration for me. As for my family the Super Bowl night is always associated with healthy food. This year we’re gonna try some delicious organic dishes prepared in one of the restaurants in our neighborhood called the Magic Oven. We fell in love with the food they serve, it’s quickly delivered, healthy and so quite naturally it was our first choice but, of course, my favorite avocado dessert that I traditionally prepare every year will remain an inseparable part of our Super Bowl night this year as well. 🙂

  27. Julia says

    Hey!
I am in love with sweet potato pie, but i haven’t seen a healthy recipe of it yet. I was wondering if you could try making one? It would be amazing if you could. I love sweet potato pie so much, but the ones I get from the store are packed with sugar and calories. Think you could help?

    Thank you!
