Nutrition Information for the Homemade Larabar Recipes:

The homemade larabar nutritional info is based upon the girl-scout cookie larabars; however I think all the flavors are probably pretty similar. Each Larabar-sized bar (45 grams) will have around 175 calories, 8 grams healthy fat, 2 grams protein, 25 grams carbs, 5 grams fiber, and zero grams of added sugar.

I did it! I finally made Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Babies!! Outside of my silly mistake about the wrong dates (that’s all the store had!), they were absolutely delicious!! Thanks Katie! I blogged about them and sent everyone here for your great recipe!

    • Katelyn says

What type of dates did you use? I have not made these yet, but want to. I have chopped pitted dates. I think they are dried and am not sure if they will work. Also, I don’t have a blender or food processor…

      • Kaelyn says

If they are pitted, once you take out the seed, you get VERY hot (not quite boiling unless you just want to) and put it in a bowl and soak them for about 8-10 minutes and it works very well 😉 Not sure if they will work without a blender/processor though 🙁 sorry

Is it possible to make one of your dessert “babies” (fudge, pb, pumpkin, etc) nut-free? What would happen if the nuts were omitted? Would you just leave them out, or would you replace them with something else?

    • Melissa says

I’ve made nut free ones with coconut. I’ve also done oats rather than nuts. 🙂 They are slightly stickier (I like this, as I freeze mine and they get all chewy and caramelish) and a bit harder to roll but tasty!

I just made Kentucky Derby Pie babies! Derby pie is a pecan or walnut pie with bourbon and chocolate chips–so I made babies with 80g dates, 30g pecans, about 15g vegan semisweet chocolate chips and a splash of bourbon vanilla extract. Yum. Highly recommneded.

The chocolate chip cookie dough babies sound wonderful! I think even my husband would eat them!! I’ve been coveting a Vitamix for ages – I would start with the yummy salad dressings from my Everyday Raw book I just got for xmas, followed by lots of soups and then Green Monsters for my kids and I in the morning. No end to the fun…or the possibilities.

I would first make some vegan ice cream, just because I used to be an ice cream freak before I cut out dairy. Then I would try out the chocolate chip dough babies. I have been eyeing those for a while.

Katie, thanks so much for this giveaway! The tiramisu fudge babies sound absolutely decadent!! If I had a Vitamix, I’d make some southwestern tortilla and corn soup. (The heating function of the Vitamix sounds so helpful!)

I make chocolate fudge babies all the time. They are now a staple in my diet! I think I need to try the peanut butter cup ones, though. The first thing I would make with the Vitamix is a smoothie with a whole apple in it and kale, too because my blender cannot handle that at all. We really want a Vitamix, but it’s not in our budget right now!

The flavor that sounds best to me is the Hot Cocoa Baby flavor! I make fudge babies all the time in my old hand me down food processor and absolutely love them! I have shared them with many people, including my professors who all love them! If I had a Vita-mix I would make tons of peachy-green ice cream, smoothies and vegan soups! Thanks for the opportunity Katie aka Ms. CCK!

the peanut butter cup babies are definitely the best! The first thing that I would make would be a green monster. I make them in my current blender, but it takes so long because I constantly have to mix it around with a spoon (dangerous)! That would be for breakfast, and then I’d make almond butter to have with lunch, butternut squash soup for dinner, and lots of peanut butter babies for dessert. I’ve been wanting a vita-mix for so long, thank you so much for this opportunity, Katie!

I would make raw ice cream from frozen bananas first! It’s not much, but I’ve always wanted to try it and have never had anything remotely powerful enough to handle it.

If I had a vitamix I woudl make Raw Chocolate cookie dough balls, and ots of non-dairy Ice cream. I have wanted one for YEARS after my sister showed me all the cool things she can make with hers. As a gluten-free, dairy-free,
sugar-free marathon mom it would be very handy….:)

I would have gone w/ the Peanut Butter cup babies but I really must choose the Mounds Bar Babies! It is definitely the Mounds Bar Babies!
Oh! But the firs thing I would make if I won the Vitamix would probably be Butternut Squash Soup! I just bought two and did so after making a Butternut Squash casserole. I needed two more to have on hand just so I didn’t have an excuse NOT to make a Butternut squash dish again. LOL If I keep them in the house, I must eat them! We love butternut squash!

Tiramisu fudge babies! These would definitely be the first thing I’d make if I had a Vitamix. Tiramisu was my all time favourite dessert pre-veganism, but I always ate way more than was good for me. Having a healthy vegan-friendly recipe for this awesome dessert is just what I need : )

They’re the 1st thing I would make in the Vita Mix (followed by the rest of the list!!) I do have a list of things I want to try if I ever get my hands on one, with Green Smoothies and ice cream and some original “I wonder if that would work” ideas as well

    oh boy… a vita-mix would make me SUCH a happy girl 🙂
first, i’d make some deeeelish almond, cashew, and sunflower seed buttah.

then, once i have my nut butter fix taken care of, i’d get started on some snickerdoodle babies!

then, i’d probably NEVER come out of the kitchen because i’d be busy trying about every recipe i could get my hands on 🙂

pumpkin pie babies would be my fav, fo sho.. and I think I would try to make chocolate tofu pudding — since I’ve tried in my bullet-type blender and didn’t get a good mix. I eat those snak-pak puddings every day, and want to try to make a splenda-free version.

I would absolutely make the hot cocoa fudge babies! Before I went vegan that was always my favorite drink on a frozen morning, and whenever I’ve made these before they always remind me of that.
As for the first thing I would make with a vitamix, I think I would make a blended salad. I’ve been dying to try Gena’s (Choosing Raw) Creamy Zucchini Soup but I’ve never been able to because I don’t have the right equipment! 🙂
The other thing I would make is chocolate avocado pudding. I’ve always mashed the avo with a fork, but I think it would be better if it were completely smooth….

This is for the vitamix contest! The fudge baby I’d try first is likely to be tiramisu, though, I’d have to through some vin santo in there, get pine nuts in somehow, and dip it in homemade white chocolate! Next, thyme glazed macadamia nuts with sweet preserved lemons to replace an old shortbread favorite. Then gingerbread babies with apricots, black forest fudge babies with cherries…and some saffron, orange blossom, pistachio, dried strawberries are definitely begging to be made into babies, somehow.

The first thing I’d make in my vitamix would be nut milk, to be fermented into a yogurt that I’d drain, add some other ingredients including bacteria to, and age, in hopes of advancing my nut-cheese creations! A vitamix would allow me to buy nuts in bulk and cut down on the cost of packaged almond milk, what a lifesaver that would be right now!

80g dates, a bit over 1/16th tsp salt, 30g raw almonds, very scant ¼ tsp vanilla, heaping 1/8 tsp cinnamon, pinch of cream of tartar
(I’m not sure it actually needs the c.o.t. But snickerdoodle cookies have it, so I sometimes add it.)

Someone asked if you could replace the nuts with anything… I use ground flaxseeds (you can get a big bag, as well as big bags of the nuts, from Costco). It helps dry it out a bit, as well is healthy for you. If you really want to be healthy, use cacao (raw chocolate) instead. It’s a bit more bitter (like dark chocolate), but great for you.

Any opinions on chili-chocolate? I love crazy flavor combinations haha. For the longest time I was only trying out your fudge baby recipes but I recently tried your deep dish cookie pie and naughty girl fudge recipes and they are just as awesome, but no surprise there. Your blog is very inspiring.

I made some fudge-babies inspired by you the other night! Lots of dates, nuts, seeds, raisins and vanilla, blitzed into a dough.. and I got the idea to add a handful of crunchy cereal! Rolled into balls, into the freezer.. OMG. Chewy, crunchy amazingness! I had to share!
Thanks for the inspiration! ♥ xx

Have you done any experiments adding some protein to these? I understand the whole vegan thing, but I love the Rise protein bars because of their simple ingredients (almonds, whey protein and honey) And they pack 23 grams of protein per bar.
Could you add, maybe, some hemp protein powder? And if you did that, what would you include to make them not too dry?

Hi! I love these recipes! I got addicted to the fudge babies…. Now I’m into experimenting with different flavors. I just made cashew cookie with a few drops of lemon extract and it was AWESOME! Like a lemon cookie. I might try orange zest next.

Katie! I have to tell you about this AWESOME date product I found. It’s by a company called Ziyad. They are “Baking Dates” pitted and pressed. That’s all! No sugars or anything added. I used them in your pumpkin dip. Planning to make into Lara Bars. Already soft texture, no need to soak. I’m just thrilled. My local grocery store had them for 1.99 for a 13oz package, but just this week dropped the price to 1.19! I bought 10! I don’t know if it is always in stock or if just temporary. Was on special island shelfing unit with other products by this company like falafel mix and hummus and tahini. Didn’t know if you had heard of it, but i’m LOVING it! Just wanted to share my findings! Saw they have it on amazon, but shipping is twice the cost! That’s ridiculous!

I’m trying to make the chocolate fudge bars but I can’t get them to stick together! What is the trick? I’ve tried to put some in a baggie and squeeze it into a bar shape but it soon falls apart again. I tried to put it in a pan and flatten it and slice it up but it just keeps crumbling. We like the way the crumbs taste but it’s going to be a huge mess in my kids lunch! Help please!

I stumbled on your blog and this recipe recently and I am in love!!! With both the recipe and your blog 🙂 I am always on the lookout for healthier dessert and your blog is perfect! The fudge babies are actually our dessert for the week in our meal plan with a little winter twist, I added a 1/4c Andes peppermint chips to your hot cocoa recipe and it is amazing!! I couldn’t stop sneaking tastes while making them and now I can’t keep my 3 year old son from going into the refrigerator and eating them haha! Thanks for the great recipe.

My mom and I are addicted to these. Seriously, they are fricking addicting, all without high fructose corn syrup. They are so chewy and rich, they taste like a healthy fruit snack. When I made these I had success using my Ninja. I actually made my own sweet potato pie larabars:

Substitute 1/3 cup of the dates with dehydrated sweet potatoes. Sprinkle in cinnamon and nutmeg to your liking. Blend as usual. Optional: Substitute X cups of dates for X cups of oats.

Using this method, you could actually make any pie flavor, here are some ideas.

    Blueberry pie
    Apple Pie
    Lemon Meringue
    Key Lime
    Cherry Pie
    Raspberry Pie
    Banana Cream
    Coconut Cream

Wow!! This thread seems to go on forever… ! I am not sure how I got here; just kept following one delicious recipe after another… The thing is, my favorite Larabar is the nice, tart Cherry Pie (which is a good thing because cherries are supposed to relieve arthritis). Not being a master of changing things up, I am looking for suggestions on how to make this particular flavor of Larabar. Ideas?

I’m in love with chocolate chip cookie dough Larabars, and will probably still buy them for easy snacks at the gym post-workout, but I am thrilled to be able to make some at home (and save some dolla dolla bills y’all)! This is perfect for when I want a sweet treat without the guilt of a brownie. Thanks for this awesome recipe!

    Hi!
I actually made my own version of the Gingerbread one they offered this fall! I am not a huge chocolate fan (uh oh is that a sin on this page?!) but it is partially because of a food sensitivity so I try to make things without it. Check out my Gingerbread version:

Chocolate differences aside, I still love your recipes! Also, I can only dream that my blog becomes half – no a fourth- as successful as yours so any points or tips would be appreciated!

Hi, we haven’t really ever had them around long enough for them to go bad (we’ve only ever had them around a week or two unrefrigerated). I’d think it’d be probably similar to a store-bought larabar.
