Genghis Grill

I consider myself fortunate to live in Dallas, with a bounty of fabulous eateries mere minutes from my apartment. So on a busy day, when there’s no time to cook a gourmet meal, I can still eat well by dining in one of these vegan-friendly establishments.

Among the aforementioned restaurants is Genghis Grill, an omnivorous place that also offers a vegan feast. Eating at the Genghis Grill is quite an interactive process: You go up to the food bar with your bowl, which you then fill, selecting from myriad raw veggies (they have tofu, as well). Then you pour on your sauce and seasonings of choice—teriyaki, bbq, coconut curry, marinara, whatever your mood dictates! Now it’s time to relinquish the bowl to the cook and tell him/her that you want it “vegetarian”. You can watch, first-hand, as he or she thoroughly cleans and sections off a space on the grill (and fetches clean cooking utensils, to boot!).

Here’s my finished product, with a side of brown rice :o).

My internet’s finally up-and-running… I will catch up on all your blogs in the next few days!

It’s really cool that you can see for yourself that the food you’re getting is vegetarian. I’m always afraid when I’m at a restaurant that there’ll be some hidden ingredient that I forgot to ask about.

    Wow that’s awesome!
And it looks delish! I’m sitting here eating a dry whole-grain carrot bread roll and I would love to trade very very much, yup! =p

Glad to see your internet up and running, now when will your kitchen be up and running? 😛
We have a place like Genghis Grill too, called Stir Crazy – but you have to ask for the grill to be cleaned off, ick.

Sometimes quick meals are where it’s at… but this one looks delicious as well. That’s awesome that they fetched new utensils.
Glad you are getting settled into your place. Have you heard anything about when spiral diner is opening in dallas? I’d love to plan a visit up there and pair it with dinner there (and meeting you!)

apparently the whole “mongolian grill” thing is because mongols used to place their shields over fire and cook their food like that. Probably true, I don’t know for sure. At any rate, the food is great!

  6. Bonnie says

That looks so good! it’s good to have some vegan-friendly restaurants nearby, and this particular one sounds particularly friendly!

There’s a Genghis Grill near my parents’ house… Maybe I can convince them to take me there before I have to fly back to school. Cleaning off the grill for vegetarian meals is something I don’t think about a lot at restaurants. Oh dear goodness, I hope Pei Wei cleans their woks for our veggies & tofu!

Sounds like your apartment is located in a vegan-friendly paradise! Oh, and what Vegan Noodle said – have you been to the Spiral Diner and if so, what do you think of it?

How wonderful is it that you can eat at a restaurant that serves meat and they are so kind to accommodate your dietary needs, that is awesome. This is why I am generally leery about ordering grilled food at restaurants that also serve meat, as I’m never sure if they bother to clean the grill. I mean, I’m not too fond of the idea of my veggies cooking right by a big ‘ol steak, thank you very much!

    The food looks delish!

OMG! I’ve never been to Genghis Grill but I know my parents like it – good to know I can go with them next time I’m home!

VN, I heard about Spiral Diner coming to Dallas! YAY!

  10. Sophie says

    wow looks nice!!
I wish more places were vegan friendly in the UK… for France pfew lost cause, when you say the word vegetarian they already think you are a freak…!!!

Blending is such a great way to pass time and have TONS of fun! I always end up adding more and more and more and more =p It only gets better with every ingredient. Well except for the dried cranberries I added last time which I ended up picking out one by one (and I threw a lot of them in there) =p

Oh my, bourbon pecan chocolate pie that sounds like perfection! You’ve made a lot that sounds fantastic and I can’t wait!!! Actually the book should arrive either today, tomorrow or on Monday and I’m crossing my fingers that it’ll arrive today. A whole weekend to try out recipes, what more can one wish for? =p Ha ha!

A 100% vegan apartment, now that rocks!! =)
I’d love to see pictures some day (I don’t know why, but I love seeing what people do to their apartments) =)
Are you taking your dogs with you?

I haven’t talked to you in so long, since our little meet-up in Richardson. I always read your blog though. 😉 That’s so cool that you moved in the city. We’re practically neighbors now, so we need to get together! I cannot wait for the new Spiral Diner to open. Anyhoo….wanted to tell you that Eric and I went to Genghis Grill on Friday after we read your blog. I loved it!! It was so delicious, healthy, and filling. I’m so excited to have another restaurant to go to. Thanks so much for the write-up on it!

  13. Ashasarala says

That’s awesome that they clean off the grill for ya. I was just about to say I don’t trust places like that because they use the same grill as the meat, but I guess I was wrong to assume so!

  14. tofufreak says

thats so amazing that he would take such a quick liking to tofu! all of my friends, with the exception of one person, has said “eewwwww” at the mentioning of tofu.
