Katie the Caterer?

I got another decorating “job” over the weekend. One of our neighbors just turned 16, and her mom asked if she could hire me to make cupcakes. Of course I said yes!

It was a really easy job, too– the mom told me exactly how she wanted the cupcakes done (purple icing with pink hearts). So, for the sixteenth birthday party, I made sixteen of the following:

The cupcake recipe is from Vegan Cupcakes Take Over the World (as usual), and the hearts are made out of fondant. People have been emailing/leaving comments asking if I can write a post on how to use fondant. So be on the lookout for such a post in the near future!

As always, I know I’m way behind on commenting… I’ll try and catch up after my next post. For now, though, it’s so hot that I’m going to immerse myself in my friend’s pool until my fingers turn into raisins. Sounds like an idea and a half, no?

Those are very sweet 16, very cute. I’m interested in learning about fondant! I don’t think I’m too intimidated, it’s just not something I’ve ever used. A few tips might get me to try.

I just love purple (the key color for my wedding May 2007)! My husband is tasked at making me a birthday cake for this Friday (my b-day is tomorrow but some of my girlfriends are coming over to celebrate on Friday) and I only wish he had your talent, although I will love whatever he comes up with although I don’t think icing will be involved.

Pretty cupcakes!! Your icing always looks much prettier than mine. Like slicker? more wet? Mine is thick and dry it seems….

Am looking forward to the post on fondant!

I am taking a class on baking at altitude next week, as that is giving me some trouble up here in the mountains. 😀

  25. Animal-Friendly says

Thanks for the advice on where to get fondant! I would have never thought of finding it in a craft store, but I will definitely check there.

  26. shellyfish says

Evil blogger keeps eating my comments! They must be tasty! I'm behind on my blogs, and I only just got here to see 51 comments you crazy popular cutie! Just shows how much we dig you & your fondant! I can't wait for you to talk about it a little!

  27. Sarah says

Your cupcake is so cute! Those glittery fondant hearts are just too much. Id probably just stare at it in awe and never eat it, lol.

And you said you used Pillsbury frosting for the last batch you made. Are all of their icings vegan? I just am never sure cause it does say m. and di-glyercides on the packages I saw at the store, so I just have stayed away. So they are plant glycerides?

  28. MizFit says

Id hire you in a millisecond if you lived close enough!

And I wouldnt even lie and say I decorated em myself 😉

  29. Vegan_Noodle says

I love those cupcakes Katie!! Maybe I’ll hire you to make cupcakes for the big 3-0 (ok, it’s another year + away…. but still)
