Product Review Week: Lucy in the Sky with… Chocolate

I know my title ruins the LSD reference, but who needs drugs (or diamonds, for that matter) when you can have chocolate???

Let’s start with the bad first, so that we can end this chocolatey post on a positive note. I bought the So Delicious Kidz pops as soon as I saw them at Whole Foods, a few months ago, because they reminded me of those Good Humor Fudgesicles I loved so much as a kid. And some of the proceeds go to Farm Sanctuary, so I was happy to shell out the money for the pops. But, sadly, these were a real let-down. They weren’t fudgey at all, but rather icy. I felt like I was eating watered-down, frozen chocolate sugar on a stick. Doesn’t sound too appealing, does it?

But So Delicious redeemed itself with its Creamy Fudge Bars, which are every bit as creamy as their title suggests!

“So rich and creamy, so delicious,” says the box. I couldn’t agree more.

More accolades for this bar: it doesn’t melt super-fast and make a mess, so there’s no need to scarf it down in ten seconds before your shirt ends up eating the rest. In fact, here’s a picture of a So Delicious fudge pop, around ten minutes into eating it:

Not a drip to be seen!

Just one more question remains to be answered: Who in their right mind would crave a chocolate ice cream bar in this cold winter weather we’ve been experiencing?

Hmmm… well, no one ever said I was in my right mind. 😉

I totally agree on those little fudge pop wannabes! They kind of morph into weird shapes and stretch as you eat them… Or was that just me..?! haha! Im loving these theme weeks girl! 🙂

  2. Veg-a-Nut says

Those fudge bars are fantastic. It has been awhile since I had them and now I want one, but I am going to stick to my sugar free living. (well for awhile longer). Hope you try the biscuits they are so good!

  3. T says

I’m not exactly craving ice cream right now, either, but as soon as I am I will give those a shot! Weird that the fudge-pops are so bad. Product review week was great!

  4. Lisa -- Cravin' Veggies says

Yum! I will have to look for them the next time I am at the grocery store! I just had a So Delicious ice cream sandwich last night… and it was about 25 degrees out! Sometimes the temp just doesn’t matter!!

  5. shelby says

I really don’t think the temp matters! I crave cold foods all the time and crunch on ice cubes all day. I’m sure that doesn’t help my cause but it’s a habit.

Those creamy chocolate bars look amazing!!!

  6. carolinebee says

thanks for the review!! This is totally the type of product where I wouldn’t know which one to choose…and with my luck would end up buying the gross kiddy one 😀

  7. Animal-Friendly says

I love the So Delicious Creamy Fudge Bars! They also make an excellent dreamsicle bar and with my sore throat, I could really go for one of those bars despite the FREEZING weather 🙂

  8. Kiersten says

I eat ice cream all the time in the winter! People who don’t are the ones out of their minds.

I definitely need to find those fudge bars, I have never seen them around here.

  9. Sanja says

I have been saying this since I was a little girl: it is never too cold for ice cream! (Okay, there are a few situations…)

  10. Emma says

mmm- those choccie ice cream bars look yum!

you can get similar ones here in the UK made by Swedish Glace but I haven’t fancied trying them as it rarely gets hot enough here to fancy ice cream.. though chocolate anything is always tempting….

  11. snugglebunny says

CCV, thank you for your kind words over on my blog. I have greatly enjoyed reading yours as well.

And I think I know why you didn’t like those fudge pops for kids from Soy Delicious. I noticed that package said that they are allergen free, that would mean they most likely similar to a chocolate sorbet. If you are not used to producets that do not contain soy milk, then they would not taste right to your tastebuds. Just a thought.

  12. Ruby Red Vegan says

I love those creamy fudge bars too! I haven't tried the pops, and I'm not going to now.

Also, in your honor I had a Clif nectar dark chocolate & raspberry bar yesterday. They are really yummy! I remember you did a review on those a while back. You are such a useful reviewer; I can always count on you and your expert tastebuds. 🙂

  13. mad about udon says

Longevity is the most important actor when it comes to frozen goods! 🙂 Who wants a tasty treat that melts in 2 minutes? Not me.

  14. eatingbender says

I love your theme weeks! Can’t wait to see what’s in store with the Vita-Mix ;o)

Fudge bars are the best! I’ve never tried the Kidz pops but now I know to stay clear and stick to the Delicious Creamy Fudge Bars – yum!

  15. VeganView says

I think I would take 1-2 bars and heat em up some how since I dont have a micro, sprinkle with salt and whoo hoo! Since there is so much snow here now though, eating ice cream sounds a tad insane for me at least.
    Love the reviews!
And of course you are welcome to Thanksgiving next year, were gonna have to make EXTRA EXTRA pumpkin rolls 😉
And thank you for all the nice comments you always leave on my blog! 🙂

  16. ariel says

Thanks for the review! I’ll be sure to try these sometime soon. I also recommend the little ice cream sandwiches that they make. I like ice cream in any weather, too. 🙂

  17. *Andrea* says

glad to see a chocolaty post. you sure know how to live up to your name 😀 i totally have random cravings too! in the summer my fam makes fun of me for eating soup hehe. to each his own 😉

  18. Lisa says

“watered-down, frozen chocolate sugar on a stick” — you mean that’s not the definition of a fudge bar?

Oh! You DO mean that! Guess I need to get me some of those second ones!

  19. Amanda says

yum! I LOVE Soy Delicious! My Whole Foods carries Sweet Nothings brand too (by Turtle Mountain I think). I kinda like them but expensive unfortunately.

  20. aTxVegn says

Yum that looks great! It reminds me of something I used to eat – Skinny Cow maybe? It’s been a long time since I had a good fudge bar. Thanks for the review.

  21. Alisa says

I am actually right there with you on the “ice cream” in winter, my question was, how in the world did you keep that fudge bar around for 15 minutes without devouring it!

  22. joanna says

those creamy fudge bars remind me of skinny cows! i use to eat skinny co fudgesices before i became a vegan. i was addicted to those suckers.

i’ve tried to make raw fudgesicles using avocado, but they were BEYOND gross. haha

  23. Jen says

thanks for the review ccv! i’m not a fan of frozen dessert on a stick, i’m more of an soy ice cream in scoopable or sammich form person. as for my little boy he hates anything frozen or too hot. he likes all his food luke warm, including his liquids! weird, huh?

  24. ChocolateCoveredVegan says

Ariel– I’ve only tried the vanilla sandwiches… but I hear they’re coming out with coconut-milk based ones!

Andrea—Ooh I’m with you; hot soup is way too yummy to abstain from eating it throughout the entire summer!

  25. Catherine says

Oh those sound so incredible delish! I am a huuge fan of fudgesicles. I actually crave ice cream and ice cream bars more in the winter than the summer because I don’t like heavy, creamy foods in the summer – I’m more of a sorbet girl. Is that weird?

  26. River says

Ooh yes! They are so fudgey and chocolaty! I haven’t tried the Kidz fudge pops, and probably won’t after reading your review.
I must not be in my right mind either, because now I want those Creamy Fudge Bars!!

  27. Vivacious Vegan says

Those creamy fudge bars look fantastic. I used to eat fudge bars all the time pre-vegan but I never tried the vegan versions because I figured they’d probably taste like Kidz Fudge Pops. I’m gonna be on the lookout for them now.
