Funfetti Cookie Dough Balls

Howdy.

I’m a funfetti cookie dough ball.

Want to eat me?

funfetti cookie dough

Well of course you do!

sprinkle balls

As I was mixing the dough for my Single-Serving Cookie Dough Balls, I saw the sprinkles… So, obviously the sprinkles ended up in the batter. And thus the birth of Funfetti Balls! Oy, that title yields itself to many jokes, none of which are appropriate for this blog. It’s difficult, but I shall censor myself. Boo.

Funfetti Cookie Dough Balls

Based off the recipe for Single-Lady Cookies

  • 5 level teaspoons flour (white, oat, or spelt) (18g)
  • 1/16th tsp baking soda
  • 1/16th tsp salt
  • 2 tsp oil or melted butter-type spread
  • 1/4 tsp pure vanilla extract
  • 1-2 tsp sprinkles or Homemade Sprinkles
  • 12 or so chocolate chips
  • sweetener (My testers liked 1 tsp brown + 1 tsp white sugar. You can sub coconut sugar or sucanat.)
  • 1 tsp milk of choice, or as needed (Don’t use water.)

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Combine dry ingredients, then add wet and mix with a fork. Form into three little balls. (Do not smush.) Cook for 8-9 minutes. Take out when still a bit undercooked, so they don’t get hard, and wait at least 5 minutes before trying to remove from tray. Store in a plastic container for soft cookies, or a glass container for crispy cookies.

Eeeeeeeee they look so pretty! Yes I wanna eat them!

Also, Katie, thank you SO much for featuring my little baked goods yesterday. Thanks to your link, my little blog saw more traffic than it usually gets in a week! 🙂 🙂

  2. Lauren says

Looks awesome, funfetti is always a major mood booster in my opinion! I think my dream flavor would be vanilla chai or maybe toffee chip!

  3. Carrie (Moves 'N Munchies) says

im so impressed you are doing the bakesale yet can still crank out a post today!! YOU impress me GAL!.. and this is SO creative!! funfetti was a childhood fav of mine!!.. oo a dream cookie dough.. would be a mint brownie cookie dough ball! ( i guess the brownie part totally contradicts the cookie part-hmm!)

  4. Bethany says

I was wondering if anyone knows the answer to this question. Does butter extract really make it taste like cake batter or is it better to just buy cake batter extract? I was wondering because I can easily buy the butter extract from any grocery store, but I have to buy the cake batter extract online and I’m a little impatient and I don’t want to pay for shipping and handling plus tax. Please let me know if anyone knows this. Thank you so much!

    • Chocolate-Covered Katie says

LOL I didn’t even know they made such a thing as cake batter extract! But if you don’t want to buy it, just try the butter extract first. If you don’t like it, you’ve only wasted a few dollars and you can then still order the cake one.

  5. Keri - I Eat Trees says

Oh my goodness, those look fantastic!!! Yum! Look how pretty they are!
Congratulations on such a successful bake sale. It’s so awesome you use your blog for good and not evil… not that I can think of any evil blogs, but ykwim. 😛
My dream/favorite cookie dough is chocolate chip oatmeal cranberry. It’s the husband’s favorite, too. Actually, I’d probably throw in some PB too, but he’s not a fan.

  6. Heather @ kissmybroccoli says

How cute! I don’t think I’ve ever met a cookie I didn’t like, but I could really go for some old fashioned PB cookies and milk right now…at 10:30am…don’t judge! Haha

So glad to war the fundraising is going well! You are so great for putting this all together Katie! Love you!

  7. Alyssa says

    Yum!
So glad to hear the bake sale is going well!

I think my favorite flavor would be double-dark chocolate peanut butter. Or vanilla latte.

  8. jenniee says

ITS SO ANNOYING HOW YOU NEVER EAT THE DECADANT DESSERTS YOU MAKE AND ONLY EAT THE ONES THAT YOU CAN MAKE “LOW CAL” WITH ALMOND MILK AND STEVIA. And you claim you are “naturally thin” LOL. Now if you could eat actual COOKIE DOUGH BALLS with real chocolate, flour, oil, milk, ect. and not gain then you would be naturally thin. Not when you NEVER even eat any of the desserts you make besides the lowcal healthy ones. It’s very triggering, and I hope im not the only one that thinks so!

    • Alyssa says

If this is triggering for you, then please, PLEASE don’t read it! I’m not being snarky: I have been where you are, and understand how you feel. For your own mental health, please, avoid this site.
(And I think she doesn’t eat milk, chocolate, etc. because she is vegan. A lot of chocolates have milk solids.)

  9. Jess says

I recently made rocky-road cookies and they were even better than I could have hoped they’d be. And I’m with you on the coconut oatmeal flavor!

  10. Holly @ The Runny Egg says

I love how those dough balls look. The sprinkles are adorable.

I would love a cookies and cream dough ball!

  11. Kat @ Cupcake Kat says

Mmm this looks so good I want to have those dough balls and milkshake ASAP!
My dream flavors would be chocolate and cherry, coconut with chocolate and macadamia nuts or almonds, or how about peanut butter? I love peanut butter!

  12. Emma (Sweet Tooth Runner) says

Holy YUM Katie!! Whole new level of yumminess!! And they’re SOOO pretty too!! 😀 I think a chocolate fudge brownie cookie dough ball sounds good to me! 😉 And if I haven’t said it enough already, I think you are doing an AMAZING job with the bake sale. Your generosity and caring-ness is inspirational- love you girl!! 🙂

  13. Moni'sMeals says

wow! I am lovin this idea. I will be making this week for sure.

Great job on the bake sale too. 🙂

  14. Lyza says

Heck yes!! These are the funnest looking cookies ever.

I am SO about to win the motherload of chocolate chip cookies in that auction and am SO stoked. This is exciting!!! You need to do another one of these auctions again. They’re fabulous!!!!

  15. bitt of raw says

I am so excited that the auction is doing so well! I’ll be even more excited when I get to make the stuff for the lucky top bidders. Thanks for organizing this, it can’t have been easy.

  16. Les says

I made a cake batter milkshake yesterday with coconut milk and added xanthan gum. It was delicious! I’d love mint chocolate-chip or coffee cookie dough.

  17. Alyson says

Yum, yum YUM! 🙂 Soooo good! They remind me of like all the little goodies I ate when I was a kid. I think it’s sprinkles that always sell me on goodies like this. They are just THAT much more special! 😉

    Much love,
    Aly

  18. Averie (LoveVeggiesAndYoga) says

I love the funfetti balls! And I love cake batter or any/all kinds….funfetti or otherwise. So these are perfect!

And the auction…holy awesomeness! Thank you for hosting such a successful event, Katie!!!! 🙂

  19. Emily says

Oh my gosh… I’ve given up sweets for Lent, but as soon as Easter rolls around, I’m going to have to pop a batch of these in the oven. As for cookie dough – I honestly don’t care what kind it is, as long as I get to eat it!
On a totally unrelated note, I tried your tofu peanut butter frosting today, and it was… well, for lack of a better word, weird. There was a really strong, unpleasant tofu-y aftertaste. Do you think it could be the brand of tofu I’m using? I opted for the cheaper brand instead of mori-nu, but maybe the flavor is different? I was so excited about it, too… 🙁

    • Chocolate-Covered Katie says

Hmmm… I really don’t know :(. Because I didn’t taste yours, I don’t know what the weird taste was. Maybe it was the tofu… I’ve served this to omnivores, and they all love it. Sorry I can’t be more helpful.

  20. Disturbed says

Hey, so I have been working on things to eat for lunch to work in my meal plan (dietitians sucks lol), but anyways, I was wondering if you had (or could make) a healthy vegan “egg” salad recipe? I was thinking putting that on a english muffin would be easy (and healthy).

  21. Tara says

I love funfetti! Sprinkles make everything better. I think my dream cookie dough flavor would be a sugar cookie base with chocolate, butterscotch, and coconut, rolled in graham cracker crumbs.

  22. claudia says

ZOMG they look so yummy! but i have a few more weeks to wait since i gave up sweets for Lent but when it is, these at the top of my list 🙂
p.s. Katie, you and all of your recipes are pure G-E-N-I-U-S.

  23. BroccoliHut says

So festive! I think my ideal cookie dough flavor would have to involve coconut, cranberries, and chocolate:)

  24. Jamie says

Mine would totally be Chocolate Peanut butter, banana and raspberry jam flavoured cookie dough. I haven’t tried making them that way yet, but all my favourite things in one cookie would be amazing.

  25. Sarah (appifanie) says

As someone who is incapable of portion control, THANK YOU. I like to be able to eat a whole recipe and not have that be a bad thing.

I’m gluten intolerant so I just subbed the bob’s all purpose mix for the flour and it worked great! I don’t have sprinkles though 🙁

  26. Melanie says

Mmmm I made these today. I used coconut oil, ww pastry flour, and dark chocolate chips. They were amazing! The cookies flattened out though. It might have been the type of oil I used..not sure. My uncle had one too and liked it! =)

  27. Jenn says

I just made these and they are lovely! I substituted chocolate bits for two marshmallows 🙂 Very nice and gooey on the inside! Thanks for another great recipe 🙂

  28. Tiffany says

They came out tasting like baking soda, that’s no bueno. Perhaps I made a mistake. And if I were to use date paste as a sweetener is it still a tsp and a half?

  29. Rande @ The Vegetable Centric Kitchen says

I added almonds and dark chocolate chips to these and they are baking in the oven smelling wonderful!

  30. Anonymous says

Hi, I just found your site and I am excited to try your recipies.

Question. Can you use regular milk instead of non dairy milk or does it need to be non dairy?

  31. J.Wellins says

CCK, I love/adore/obsess over your recipes, but I’m not quite sure how or why this one failed me?? I tried doubling the recipe to allow for an offered share with the bf, and the cookie “balls” came out flat and dough-ey. Maybe I’m not understanding the ball concept? Can you elaborate on this?
    LOVE LOVE LOVE you!

  32. dc says

Just made these, yum!! Love the single-serving-ness, keeps me from overindulging 🙂 I used whole wheat flour, 1/4 tsp of each sugar, and 2 tsp of almondmilk. I also added a tsp of cocoa powder and they were the perfect chocolate fix 🙂 thanks Katie!

  33. Kelly says

Recently stumbled upon your blog and so glad I did! I love the single serving option. So far I made your single chocolate cake and these cookie dough balls. Both are delicious!

  34. Bella says

these are tinier than i thought! but that’s good because then i wont feel bad for eating it all! just came out of the oven and i can’t wait to try them!

  35. Kelsey says

I made these yesterday, and they were so good! I found some paraffin wax (or whatever the edible wax is called) and some small skewers in my kitchen, so with the leftover chocolate chips, I made funfetti cookie pops!

  36. Alexa says

WOOO so I just made these! I tweaked them a little bit…
essentially I quadrupled them because I DID want a substantial batch. I got it so the flour was exactly 1/2 cup, which means I multiplied everything else by 4.6. To save you the calculations, I’ll post here what I used!

    1/2 cups flour
1/4 tsp (plus a little bit) baking soda
    1/4 tsp salt
    3.2 Tbsp coconut oil
    1.2 tsp vanilla
    3 Tbsp sprinkles
    1/4 cup choc chips
    3 Tbsp sugar
    1 Tbsp agave
1-2 Tbsp non-dairy milk (as needed)

I baked for 7 minutes and they were brown on the bottom and still very light in the middle; a little gooey, so perfect!

So obviously you’re not going to measure 1.2 tsp of vanilla, so I just rounded everything. My advice: round DOWN for the oil. I used coconut, and I just did a generous (aka sloppy) 3 Tbsp and it was way too much. I didn’t really calculate the soy milk and just added as needed (I think it was around 1 Tbsp). I also didn’t measure the sprinkles or chocolate, but just put in what looked evenly distributed.
I will say that they completely flattened out, but I didn’t mind since they were delicious and they LOOK gorgeous!

Thanks so much for this recipe!! And I hope this post helps someone out! 🙂

    • Alanna says

Oops, I wish I’d seen your post about 20 min ago, lol… I just quadrupled the recipe as well and you’re right, it was too much oil. I’m guessing it’s maybe just a tiny bit under 2 tsp for the original batch (enough that rounding up doesn’t matter), but when you scale up it becomes an issue. These still taste great, though… Just a little less round than the pictures. 🙂

  37. Anglaise says

I made this recipe with applesauce instead of margarine/oil and it came to around 50 calories! So good!

  38. Basil says

I got around to making these the other night… 😀
That’s pretty much all I have to say… although, I was SO sad that I couldn’t find sprinkles without partially hydrogenated oil… but they still tasted good. I think it’s funny how I can mix cookies together in a tea mug, because the batch is so small!

    • Rachael says

I make my own sprinkles for that reason. It’s easy: when I make royal icing and am done frosting my cookies I pipe parallel lines of leftover icing onto wax paper, let it dry completely (till it’s brittle) and cut little sprinkle size pieces using a large knife held perpendicular to the lines of frosting. Then I make a funnel of the wax paper and pour them into a mason jar with a tight lid. Now I have gluten-free, HFCS-free, hydrogenated oil-free sprinkles to add to what ever, when ever. Long shelf life too. (I usually use vanilla and/or almond extract in my royal icing so it goes with most things – left over Christmas icing may have peppermint in it and I store it separately).

Hi Katie, I saw one of your other recipes on pinterest and so was eager to have a look at your site. Seeing this recipe I couldn’t wait to try it, and since I was home, and it was just about teatime, I decided to give it a go. I have to say, they tasted delicious! Only sad thing was they went completely flat in the oven (even though I rolled the dough into balls before baking). As I said, they were fantastic and so quick to make, I’ll definitely be making them again sometime soon (not to mention trying out a whole lot of your other recipes)! Thanks

  40. faith carlson says

I LOVE oatmeal coconut chocolate chip cookies! I made some from a recipe I changed a but and they were “So good I almost cried” as quoted from my sister! I love you’re siteeeee! all the recipes I wanted and healthy!

  41. Amy says

I made these the other night, and with my fantastic short attention span, I missed the last two ingredients (sugar and milk). however, to my surprise, when I took them out of the oven they looked and tasted exactly like shortbread cookies! they were absolutely delicious and I will be making them again soon!

  42. Trish @ MyBigFatBundt says

These are AWESOME. I have NO chocolate chips, sprinkles…anything in my cupboard right now. Everything is packed up as my husband and I are moving in a week and a half to a downtown loft. SOOOOOOO…I took out the small bag of cinnamon/brown sugar I was going to toss out and rolled these cookie dough balls around in the mixture. Kind of like a snickerdoodle! They are mmmmm, good.

  43. Christy says

i just made these, so good and it only took 15 minutes to be out of the oven and done! i bet this would taste amazing with cocoa powder cuz ya know EVERYTHING taste better with chocolate 😉

  44. Christina says

I just made these and one batch came out great but then i tried to double the recipe and it didn’t turn out right. I also was not able to keep these cookies as balls. Does anybody have suggestions for this?

  45. Kim says

I tried this yesterday, and I absolutely fell in love with them!! They are perfect for a quick sweet craving snack and they taste amazinggg!
Thank you soo much for the recipe I can’t wait to try other ones:)

  46. Haley says

These are sooooo good! I didn’t have any chocolate chips so I rolled the balls in cinnamon and sugar 🙂 like little snicker doodles!

  47. Beth P. says

I made the funfetti cookie dough balls for myself and my son tried one and loved them and wants me to make a big batch. Do you have the recipe for a large batch? Thanks!

  48. Sara Derksen says

Hey! FANTASTIC recipe. These are my new favourite cookie! I pressed them down before putting them in the oven (but only so that it was slightly indented, but still rather round) and baked them for about ten or eleven minutes. I put too many sprinkles in but that’s easily remedied by making another batch ehehe. I made it with the cake batter milkshake and it was delicious! I’m not too experienced with a blender though, so it was a tad oily at the top, but I just skimmed it with a toothpick. I used coconut oil and if I wasn’t a hopeless wreck with a blender it would have been fine. Good job on this recipe!

  49. Gregoria says

I made these today! I was hoping for a ball of dough, but mine flattened out and I had buttery sweet pancakes. Not bad. They were definitely cookie doughey! I used brown rice flour and whole wheat flour as well as real butter. Brown rice flour tends to flatten my cookies, but I’m definitely not complaining! Another batch is in the oven. Mmm… thanks for the recipe and take care 🙂

  50. Jess says

    Hey Katie!
Have you ever made these for a group of people? If so, do you have the slightly larger scaled recipe? Also, how did it turn out when it was more than single serving??
