An equal sized (130g) serving of Haagen Dazs vanilla ice cream has 330 calories, 22 grams fat (14 grams of which are saturated), 26 grams carbs, and 26 grams of sugar.
Even if you use sugar as opposed to xylitol in the homemade recipe, it only contains 7 grams sugar per serving, which is less than a third of the amount in the Haagen Dazs.
While this recipe might seem to be high in fat, do remember it’s almost completely heart healthy fats from the cashews, with very little saturated fat and zero trans fats. I usually divide the recipe into 2-3 servings but went with 4 here so it’s less confusing, as a half cup is the standard serving size for ice cream.
If you use xylitol (a natural, non chemical alternative to sugar), the only sugar in this recipe will be natural sugars found in the cashew nuts.
