Happy Black Friday!
I’m not venturing anywhere near a mall today.
I did pass by a shopping center on my run this morning, and the parking lot was already swarming with cars! I’ll probably spend the rest of today inside, cleaning… and maybe starting to transfer Christmas decorations to my new house. My mom said she’ll be happy to give me some of hers; she has so many!
After Thanksgiving dinner, I stayed over at my parents’ house, and this morning I made oatmeal for everyone (mom, dad, and my sister who came in from Boston).
I made everyone a big batch of Strawberry Hugs Oatmeal.
(My sister’s oats were sweetened with brown sugar. She doesn’t appreciate the melted banana trick.)
I hope everyone had a terrific Thanksgiving (or Thursday night). Mine was wonderful, filled with great friends and family… and one very naughty Batman who helped himself to a plate of food someone left on the table. I’ll definitely get photos and recipes up as soon as I get a chance to write the posts. (The pecan pie was a success!!)
Question of the Day:
Are you going shopping today?
Side note: Sorry if you’ve been experiencing slowness or trouble accessing my site. I’m upgrading to a higher level VPS package to handle the traffic, so hopefully it’ll be much faster after that.
Sarah says
Happy Black Friday Katie! Nah, i ain’t settin’ a foot in a store today. Today is the traditional after thanksgiving R&R day. And I think you’d be proud of me. I had a Chocolate Covered Thanksgiving thanks to friends who brought in tons of chocolate. GTG- have a great day, and if you do go shopping, i really hope you survive! 🙂
Katie @ Peace Love and Oats says
I debating hitting up a couple stores today, but decided against it. I can wait, I hate dealing with the parking and waiting in line! Not my style.
Aja says
I need to go shopping but I don’t think I really want to try and go to a mall today. Besides, it’s almost 9 am now so most everything will be gone.
Glad you had a good Thanksgiving!
Anna @ The Guiltless Life says
I’d love to have you stay at my house and make me treats (I promise to make you some in return!)…looks delicious! Glad you had a great Thanksgiving, and wise decision about avoiding the malls – I have some friends who drove over the border into Washington in the middle of the night just to hit the stores on time. Hoo boy, I appreciate my sleep more than savings!
Char @ www.charskitchen.ca says
Mmmm this looks yummy! I had oatmeal for breakkie, too 🙂 I will be running errands today and MIGHT go shopping, but I’m Canadian so no biggie
Kit-Kat says
We don’t do Black Friday. It’s too rediculous, and I don’t want to get a black eye (they don’t call it Black Friday for nothing!). Most of my friends were out in the parking lots at 3 A.M. waiting for stores to open, and I was sleeping soundly in bed, dreaming happy post-Thanksgiving pre-Christmas time thoughts. More baking ideas on the horizon, with Christmas coming and all, was keeping me awake untill midnight lastnight, so I was snoozing during the big store openings. I don’t care, though, because I would much rather go shopping whenever I want to or feel like it, rather than having to deal with a sea of grumpy people fighting for the best deals.
I’m stoked fore Christmas now! So totally excited! Have any new recipe ideas on the horizon for Christmas? Have you thought of making chocolate coconut lava cakes? Or candied gingerbread squares? Just ideas! 🙂
Chocolate-Covered Katie says
Oh I have too many!! I should’ve started with the gingerbread and candy cane recipes back in June! 😉
Kit-Kat says
But then you might have gotten burnt out early, and not want to do any Christmassy baking once the holiday season hits!
Alice says
YAY!! 😀 So glad the pecan pie worked out!!! 🙂
Katie @ Raisins&Apples says
I’m not venturing to the mall either, but I think I just might be having oatmeal this morning 🙂
Cara @ EAT. PRAY. RUN. says
Glad you had a nice thanksgiving…and trust me, you are NOT alone! I stay as far away from shopping as I can today! Black Friday madness scares me and there is nothing that I need THAT bad to fight the crowds! 🙂
PS. I used your pumpkin pie recipe (with a few tweeks) and it was such a hit!
Marian says
Oh yes, Those crowds are too much stress for me. I may end up spending a whopping total of $30 more by shopping for my christmas gifts before thanksgiving:)
Amber K says
I wouldn’t go to a store today if someone was willing to pay me to do it. Dealing with the extreme amount of craziness and huge crowds is my idea of pure torture!
Sarah @ blueeyedbarbie.blogspot.com says
We definitely took advantage of black friday! Tons of fun!
Joanna says
That looks yummy!
I’ll be shopping today but I’m going to be super late for all the sales. I think it beats risking getting trampled by crazed shoppers.
Averie @ Love Veggies and Yoga says
Good luck with the server upgrade. Your site is never slow for me..it’s one of the faster sites I visit which is a bonus!
I wanted to do some online shopping for Black Friday but some sites were sold out of the goodies I wanted at the rock bottom prices. And I would NOT set foot in the stores…so sat this one out.
Anna @ Food Fitness Frolicking says
I’m so glad you had a great Thanksgiving! I can’t wait for your pecan pie recipe!
Those oats look delicious..that was so kind of you to make breakfast for everyone!
Have a great rest of your week! 🙂
Lauren @ What Lauren Likes says
No malls for me! To crazy! Haha 🙂
Erin says
I am definitely not an early morning shopper. I think that the stores advertise sales to get people in even if things aren’t on sale. For example, I went to my favorite store Target this evening (my mom and I tried to miss the rush) and they were advertising my favorite v-necks as on sale when they were the same exact price as normal! So I stay away from Black Friday. 🙂 I can’t wait to see all your Thanksgiving pictures and recipes.
Kelly @ Foodie Fiasco says
I thought about going shopping, but then I realized that I didn’t want a) a piano to fall on me b) to be assaulted with pepper spray c) get shot at over a baby carriage or d) get run over. Yes, these have all happened on Black Friday.
I bet you’re going to love your Bluehost upgrade, and I hope it goes smoothly! 😉
Chocolate-Covered Katie says
I actually moved from Bluehost to Servnt when I had to change to a dedicated server. I really, really like them. They are so helpful and patient with me!!
Kathy says
I went Black Friday shopping with my cousin and her friend 🙂
We left at 11:30pm and stayed there until 2:30am! It wasn’t as crowded as I always thought a Black Friday night was. The place looked like it would look in the morning. Only difference was that it was at night! The lines were longer, of course, for Jamba Juice, Forever 21, and the like. I enjoyed it though :] we got back and slept at 4am (they wanted to watch Tangled and I dozed off) then ate breakfast at 1:30pm.
Nicole says
I’m one of those crazy people who did go to the malls yesterday… And now I’m exhausted. Ha, ha.
Rebecka says
Hi Katie!
This is my first time commenting even though I’ve been reading your blog for months now – reading it just makes me really happy (and hungry!!).
Today I’ve been stuck in bed with massive xxx just reading food-blogs and browsing pinterest for random things. So when i finally decided to make myself some dinner all I wanted was your pancakes with brownie batter dip. I made the apple pancakes (sans apples since i didn’t have any), and litterally drenched them in creamy batter dip. They were SOOO good. Just perfect! Although I tweaked the batter recipe a bit (I added dates AND agave AND a handful of rasins. sweet tooth? Moi?) I think you’re pure genious for coming up with that idea, and I will keep reading and trying your recipes. Keep up the great work!

Rebecka says
Oops! The “xxx” is supposed to be “menstrual cramps”, needed to check the dictionary for that one and forgot to put it back in there. (would much rather have been stuck all day in bed because of some xxx activities though, haha ;), would have been way better than cramps)
Chocolate-Covered Katie says
LOL! Oh if only we could will away pms issues by writing something different, right? 😉
Maria says
I’ve stumbled upon this blog and it’s an understatement to say that I am thrilled! Can’t wait for the new recipes! Greetings from a co-chocoholic! 🙂
Chocolate-Covered Katie says
Aww always awesome to meet another chocoholic!! 😉

That looks divine! And those sales are ridiculously amazing – I was just way too lazy to head to out that early this year. Next year, perhaps?
Kathleen says
We did a little bit of Black Friday shopping — we got up at 7:30 and went to two stores: Target and Payless; and we only got a few things total.
Your recipes are amazing, Katie. Thank you for everything you do. 🙂
Nancy says
How come the post says Black ƒriday Chocolate Oatmeal and when you look below, it says Strawberry Hugs…it conƒused me.
Jenn @ Lotus and Pie says
Oh wow that looks so tasty. I think if I even attempted to recreate your magic, it would not look anything close to how you manage to present things 😉 You are amazing Katie !!!
