Healthy Fathers Day Recipes
What do men want? If you search for guy food on google images, it’s pretty much exclusively burgers and steaks. And quite a few photos of Guy Fieri from The Food Network. So I shut off the computer and went straight to the source, asking male friends and family members for some of their favorite desserts or breakfast foods. Pancakes, brownies, and cookie bars seemed to be popular answers, and therefore this healthy Fathers Day recipes round-up will include all of those things.
But no Guy Fieri.
I think I’ve seen enough pictures of him to last a lifetime.

Are you making anything special for Fathers Day?
I focused on breakfast and desserts for this healthy Fathers Day recipes round-up for practical reasons; the non-desserts that my friends and family listed as their favorites weren’t foods you can find on my blog. Actually, I do have recipes on here for Cauliflower Bacon and Cauliflower Pizza Crust… but I’m pretty sure that would not go over well with any of the men I know! ?
The Blissful Baker says
My father and I are way to much alike! Except for the whole health food fanatic/always in the kitchen side of me!
Tricia says
Those look amazing 🙂 i have my dad’s dark, thick hair, but other than that I look mostly like my mom. My dad and i also share a love of learning new things… And almondmilk 🙂
Katie says
All the guys of the world must’ve gone to a secret meeting and decided to ask for pies, because that’s exactly the thing we’re making! All the wives are bringing a pie for their husband to our church this morning. But it gave me a chance to use my expert pastry skills (or lackthereof) and even though I’m not married I just totally nailed a Banana Cream Pie on the first try. YES!
-Love the burger whoopie pies! Katie 🙂
Jennifer @ Peanut Butter and Peppers says
Ahhh, you and your Dad are so cute and the recipes look amazing!!!
teabagginit says
you and your dad look so happy! 🙂 love the guy food! i take after my step-dad’s personality and lifestyle – never be inside when you can be out, never be still when you can be moving!
Juliana says
Great picture! And funny – I was wanting to make peanut butter bread for my dad, too!
And my dad and I are so alike – it’s clear we’re related, and our personalities are nearly identical.
Alanna says
Lol on Guy Fieri. My Dad and I are so much alike for a lot of things (science, sci-fi, movies, piano and classical music, singing, practicality, night owls, hate spicy food and love desserts), but fairly different on choices of regular foods. I try to eat healthy and am more adventurous in my selections, and he prefers the unhealthy stuff and is more of a meat and potatoes kinda guy (no ethnic food, unless you count Italian, haha). But usually if I don’t tell him something is healthy, he’ll eat it and like it. 🙂
jo @ including cake says
i take after my dad’s randomness and creative streak! he also got on board with a vegan diet after seeing how much of a difference it made to me…so we also share a lot on the food front. However i haven’t been able to make anything in the kitchen this Father’s Day even though i had loads planned as i’ve been laid up with a trapped nerve in my shoulder….soooo painful 🙂 i’ve really missed experiementing and so can’t wait to get better as i hate not being able to make food! Enjoy your day. x
Kathy C. says
Is your stir fry recipe on your blog? 🙂 That would be a great choice for dinner tonight. 🙂
My Dad and I both LOVE chocolate…sigh. He is diabetic, so I try to make him treats every now and again that are delicious and “safe”. 🙂
Thanks for all your incredible recipes!
Chocolate-Covered Katie says
It’s not… I just threw things together and didn’t really follow a recipe. I hate measuring ;).
Lisa K @ CanAnybodyHearMe says
I have my dad’s eyes 🙂
My dad and I like very similar food: mostly international foods. The only place where we really differ in food is that he loves wine, and I really don’t like alcohol at all.
Nancy says
Katie,
In this picture, you REALLY look like your dad! The nose, the shape of the eyebrows, shape of your face, even your smile! Perhaps your eyes are your mom’s? LOL, sometimes when it’s you it’s hard to see it!
jeanne says
This is
what I was going to say! I saw a pic of your Mom and thought you didn’t look anything like her…then I saw your Dad! You are the spitting image of him…in a much prettier, more feminine way 🙂
Erin says
Love the photo of you and your dad 😀
I don’t mean to be a grammar nazi… but it should be he *couldn’t* care less about desserts, not he could care less.
Chocolate-Covered Katie says
LOL yeah you’re right! Shame on me; I’m usually good about that ;).
Caralyn @ glutenfreehappytummy says
sounds like you’ll be having a wonderful afternoon! yay:) all your recipes look delicious! thanks for sharing!
Ruth says
I don’t know if you noticed but the photo of your Almond Joy Biscuits has a heart in it. I don’t know if it’s intentional or not but it’s cute!
Samantha says
Thanks for pointing that out! That is cute!

Hello! When posting a recipe round-up for a special occasion, I think it makes more sense to post a few days in advance of the day so that readers are able to plan and prep in advance, as opposed to posting on the day of…when everyone will be out celebrating! Great photos! K
Chocolate-Covered Katie says
I’m really sorry about that :(. The day snuck up on me! I was actually scrambling to write this post yesterday.
Aja says
I want to eat all that food! I hope you have a nice father’s day with your dad.
Elizabeth says
I think you look exactly like your dad! Before I read your post, I thought, “wow, she really looks like her dad.” My dad and I are kindred spirits — linguistics, eytmology, no athletics, and same temperament in general. He can, however, be more rational than I am sometimes. 🙂
Kaila @healthyhelperblog! says
My dad is a peanut butter fiend!! He would totally go nuts for a whole loaf of bread flavored with it!!
Barbara says
It’s easy to see where you get your good looks! You have your handsome Daddy’s smile and beautiful teeth, and you even have his eyebrows! Yours are just well-tamed, and his are manly, but they are the same shape. I’ll bet he dotes on you, as he should!
Chocolate-Covered Katie says
Aw thanks, Barbara!
Samantha says
You guys are so cute together. Your peanut butter bread was one of the stars at my latest bake sale.
I hope your recipe turns out tonight! 🙂 Have a great day.
Katie @ Peace Love & Oats says
I think you and your dad totally look alike! My dad and I have similar personalities, generally stubborn, we like to take charge and organize things, and both quiet but funny. Ahhh I miss him! I hope you had a great time with your dad today!
Amanda S. says
Two things about this photo: 1. You and your dad look so much alike! 2. It looks like you are wearing less makeup than your usual photos and I think you look great without it! Prefer the look actually!
Miss b says
Katie you and your dad look soo alike.
Lol you are so funny.
Kathy says
I am more like my dad than my mom….actually I am totally my dad’s MOM…aka my grandma. It’s weird how genes come out like that.
😉
Jolene @ Yummy Inspirations says
What Yummy dishes! I have my Dad’s eyesight (I can’t see past my nose without my glasses/contacts!) though with the annoying eyesight genes I also have been blessed with “good” hair – am 30 with not a single grey hair and he’s almost 60 and only a bit of grey here and there!! Oh and we both LOVE our food!!
Andrea says
I’m not close with my dad at all, in fact we haven’t spoken in about a year but it’s for the best! (He only speaks by yelling).
That’s great that you get along with yours!! My dad liked playing soccer but he never came to my games and I wish he did! If I did speak to him I’d definitely cook for him!!
Sophie says
Wow, all those recipes look delicious. And I bet that dessert you spoke of will be amazing too, and then you can post it and make me happy (desserts always make me happy).
I take after my dad a bit. I have his same long tongue, at least! We’re pretty similar in terms of interests too as we both love to write. He however, hates to cook and I love it. I made him waffles for breakfast today because he wouldn’t have made anything special himself (and, you know, it was fathers day)
On a different note, I have a random question. Since you’re vegan, does it ever bother you when you see someone eating meat? I’m not vegan, so I can’t really answer that, but I know that sometimes it can make me a bit sick when I see someone eating something that I really dislike. Is it the same with you?
Chocolate-Covered Katie says
Sometimes the smell bothers me (especially bacon and fish… but those smells actually bothered me even before I was a vegan).
But in terms of noticing what someone else is eating, I just try not to think about it, and I focus on something else. To be honest, I’m not sure I really pay attention to what other people are eating. I’m usually paying attention to my own food or the conversation.
Sarah says
I freaked a little when I saw “father’s day”, how could I totally miss it? But here in Finland it’s in october. Poor pops’. :S
I take after my dad when it comes to my build, thin and light, but with a little visible muscle tone, and I’ve got his temper and hair and eye colour. But I resemble his mom more, or so I’ve heard.
Zestful Lou says
It’s SO TRUE! Guys LOVE pie. I’ve never dated a guy who didn’t love a big slice of pie. My fiance always asks me to make pie. Apple is his favorite. 🙂
Lisa M says
My dad prefers pies too! I think it may have something to do with the filling (vs. a fluffy cake)…
We’re alike because we think the same way. When it comes to family disagreements, we’re usually on the same side, and can explain each other’s point of view.
Jenny$1983 says
It’s so great that you have a good relationship with your dad! I’m nothing like my dad thankfully, because he’s a narcissistic ****. Unfortunately I live with my parents because I won’t have enough money to support myself for the foreseeable future, so it makes me kind of sad and wistful when I see heart-warming stuff about father-daughter relationships and knowing I’ll never experience that 😛
I hope the dessert turned out well enough for you to post, and I hope you and your dad had a great day! ^.^
Erica { EricaDHouse.com } says
My Dad and I don’t eat the same since he has Celiacs but we both love the outdoors and learning everything about everything 🙂
Lisa @ The Raw Serenity says
Hope you had a great time with your dad!
Everyone thinks my personality is very much like my dads. I argue that I am nothing like him, which confirms to everyone I am actually like him (argumentative) .. cant win!
Loving the food porn! All your desserts look amazing Katie!
Damjana says
In my country they sell cocoa shower gel, I bought it once a couple of years ago. After shower your skin and the bathroom smell like chocolate.
Stacy says
I look just like my mom, but I am my dad through and through! We both love being outside, reading, quiet contemplation and lifelong learning. Oh, and spicy food:)
Jess from Midwest Vegan says
Guys definitely like pie! Lol. I’ve made pies for all the men in my life. They love them. 🙂
Kathleen @ KatsHealthCorner says
Num num num num num. I know my dad will love this weekend with some of these goodies. 🙂
Kashi @ Cape Island Runners says
I have been on a cauliflower kick lately so might have to try this!! Loving it mashed and want to try as a pizza crust soon!
My dad and I have a ton in common. We like to say that we are cut from the same cloth 🙂
Patricia @ thecastironvegan says
I’ve tried baking with cannellini beans and avocado (both delicious!) and I’ve cooked cauliflower all sorts of ways, but I don’t think I’ve ever baked with it! What a neat idea. I will have to try this.
Lexi @ You, Me, & A World to See says
I’m definitely a cake over pie kinda person, but some of your pies sound awesome! Do you have a favorite?
Julia Smith says
LOL I was cracking up about Guy Fieri! So funny!!! 🙂 You make my day Katie! 😛
Carissa Nelson | Spoonful of Easy says
What a great round up! I’m so with you on not the grill stuff — like my dad is an excellent griller, so why would I celebrate him by making him sub-par grilling food, lol?! Baked goods are where it’s at!
Brittany Audra @ Audra's Appetite says
Such a delicious round-up! Reminder that I should bake my dad something special for Father’s day 🙂
Emma says
The Oreo Brownie Bars look so good! But they’re not in my edition of the Hello Breakfast cookbook. Quite a few recipes I’ve seen on the blog that are supposed to be in the book aren’t in mine. Was there a second edition that I’m not aware of?
Jason Sanford says
Hi, emailing you the extra recipes ASAP! Let me know if you don’t see them within the hour

OMG, the sweet potato brownies, Oreo bars, Ryan Reynolds blondies, and vegan peanut butter cookies look absolutely tasty! I want to make something special for my dad–not sure what it will be, but I know that he is a HUGE fan of carrot cake! Will have to look for a good carrot cake recipe then!
