Fill in the blank:
Bronze, silver, and __________
Green.
Green? Yes, green. If you hope to win Olympic gold, you’d better start by eating green. And red and orange and yellow. In other words, just eat one of these popsicles.
Each little pop supplies over 50% of the RDA for Vitamin C and gives you a healthy dose of many other vitamins as well.
All while tasting like a smoothie…
In popsicle form!
Strawberry Smoothie Pops
(soy and gluten-free!)
- 1/2 cup sliced pineapple or mango (or banana) (60g)
- 1/2 cup sliced strawberries (80g)
- 1/3 cup raw kale or spinach (omit if desired) (15g)
- 1/4 cup milk or yogurt of choice (60g)
- 1/4 tsp cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp pure vanilla extract
- sweetener of choice, to taste (amount will depend on your tastebuds and also on what type of milk you use. Remember that the frozen product will be much less sweet. Try 1-2 stevia packets or 1-2 tbsp of a sweetener like pure maple syrup.)
Combine everything in a blender, food processor, or Magic Bullet until super-smooth. Pour into popsicle molds or paper cups, and insert spoons or popsicle sticks. Enjoy!
Are you watching the Olympics?
I’ve mostly been watching the swimming, diving, and gymnastics, since that’s all they seem to show during prime time tv. The gymnastics floor routine has been one of my favorite Summer Olympic events ever since I watched Dominique Moceanu back in 1996. I don’t like the balance beam, though, as I’m always afraid they’re going to fall off. I can’t even walk on that thing, and these girls are doing flips! Link of the Day:
Apparently it’s National “Brownies at Brunch” Day. Not sure why you’re only supposed to eat them at brunch… Who makes up these days, anyway?
Nikki says
Wow! These look amazing, Katie.
Do you think honey would freeze well in here? I have a hard time getting stevia and I don’t like using refined sugar.
Much love from Germany! 🙂
Liz says
I used honey in CCK’s cookie dough pops, so I think it’d work here too. I’m going to try them today. I have half a thing of strawberries that needs to be used up.
Tanya @ Playful and hungry says
They have Stevia at most rewe stores and even Edeka has it quite often. Maybe you can find it?
For Ice cream, I think honey is not so great because it turns into quite big sugar crystals once it’s frozen…
Janin says
Um, you know that Katie is vegan and that honey is not? Maybe it’s just me, but I find it pretty rude to ask a vegan about the use of a product which contains animal cruelty :/
Besides that, I’m a german too and getting stevia nowadays is damn easy! Rhe next 3 grocery stores around me are Real, Rewe and Netto and all of them do carry it!
Michaela says
actually, I come from Germany, too, but live in London and guess what, my local supermarkets did NOT carry stevia and that was in January this year.
Nikki, you might want to look up this http://www.steviakaufen.com/.
Nikki says
Technically I realize that honey is not vegan, however I (as well as many other vegans) consume honey. Besides, I am asking Katie as well as the other commenters.
There is no need to scrutinize a simple question. I did not mean to be rude. 🙂
Chocolate-Covered Katie says
Oh no no, no worries! I know not everyone is a vegan who reads my site, and I even know that some vegans eat honey. (Well, technically I guess they’re called “beegans” but I think the more important thing is to cause as little harm as possible to others, not to worry about what we call ourselves! ;))
Katia says
Lolz! Do they really call themselves “beegans”? That’s adorable! -imagining people in little bee suits-
Ashley Dodge says
I love gymnastics, archery and swimming!
I’ve been seeing popsicle recipes everywhere and really want to try! I just need to find popsicle sticks. I know it sounds like a silly question, but where in the grocery store do you find them? I’m suspecting the craft aisle.
So pretty! I want to make this recipe! They look so good!
Chocolate-Covered Katie says
I actually got mine at Michaels (craft store). But now that you mention it, I bet they would have popsicle sticks in the craft section of a grocery store.
Alex @ Brain, Body, Because says
Maybe you could try freezing them in ice cube trays with toothpicks?
Ali @ Peaches and Football says
I’ve been limited to what’s on primetime for the Olympics as well – but I’m really getting into it this summer. In fact, much more than I can remember for Summer Olympics because I usually roll for Winter and figure skating. It’s been a lot of fun though!
I love how these popsicles have spinach in them but they aren’t green!!! I always have wanted to incorporate greens but I can’t stomach the thought of one of those green smoothies I see on lots of blogs. My food must look good too ya know. 😉
Tricia says
Yep! I’m gonna watch the women’s marathon Sunday morning at six! It’s so inspiring!
These look excellent by the way, I love any sort of frozen strawberries!
Alex @ Brain, Body, Because says
I love seeing leafy greens pop up in your recipes! Thank you 🙂
Tanya @ Playful and hungry says
I prefer to do sport instead of watching it 😉
Smoothie Popsicles with mango are so great!
lauren kelly says
These look so yummy! The whole family would LOVE them!
Lisa says
Looks great – can’t wait to try!
I ADORE the Olympics – and I am with you..one of the most memorable and favorite Olympic gymnastics floor routines to me was Dominique Moceanu’s routine to “The Devil Went Down to Georgia” in 1996. She was just fabulous.
Hooray for Team USA 2012 winning Team Gold yesterday! =)
Jennifer @ Peanut Butter and Peppers says
Oh yummy! These sound so delish and refreshing!!
Erica { EricaDHouse.com } says
Yay for Popsicles! Living on the beach with this heat and humidity basically requires I eat at least one a day 🙂
Lexi @ You, Me, & A World to See says
Ooh I never realized that freezing makes thing last sweet. Any clue why that is ?
Eric Jaffa says
Originally, gymnasts just walked across the balance beam.
Lauren says
I love watching the Olympics! My favorites are gymnastics and swimming. I don’t get much into anything else, like fencing for example…kinda random. My husband used to wrestle, so that’s one that I wish they’d televise!
Kim@hungryhealthygirl says
I love the gymnastics and swimming too! The gymnastics does make me so nervous, though. Can’t be good for the blood pressure! 😉 I may add a little protein powder to my smoothie pop and make it a great after workout snack.
Cheri @ The Watering Mouth says
GREENS in a POPSICLE! Genius. That’s why they pay you the big bucks, Katie. 😉
Awesome healthy recipe, thank you. Will be perfect for these terribly hot summer days!!
xoxo

Sandra says
Last night’s prime time Olympics was great between Phelps’ low and high and the women’s gymnastics. I love the Olympics. I have a question regarding measuring the spinach. Do you mush it down to get 1/3 cup, like brown sugar, or leave it fluffy like flour? It could make a big difference in quantity.
Rebecca @ CoconuttySisters says
Only thing I care about is the Gymnastics! My favorite is the uneven bars. It is crazy how they flip around like that. I remember trying to even jump up onto the lower bar when I was little and I couldnt even do that! lol. So dissapointing that Jordan couldnt compete in the All Around competition. That is crap.
Anyway, these popsicles look yummy and I bet my kids would even eat them 🙂 I will have to make these today!
Caralyn @ glutenfreehappytummy says
i love a good popsicle! and 50% – awesome!
Ashley @ Wishes and Dishes says
I love the girls gymnastics! I am the same way though. I have to shut my eyes through most of the balance beam routines. I get so nervous for them!!
Katie @ Peace Love & Oats says
I used to LOVE making smoothie popsicles! And I haven’t been watching, I don’t have a TV and when I try to watch online streaming it keeps cutting out. So frustrating!
Lauren @ The Tornadic Kitchen says
These look so refreshing! I’ll have to give them a try soon. I love watching the olympics. So far my favorite events have been beach volleyball, swimming and synchro diving. Go team USA!
Kammie @ Sensual Appeal says
Love this Katie. You never disappoint 🙂
Sarah the official CCK drooler says
SO… I’m getting really good at this whole CCK diet thang.
For example I have a new fave for breakfast. Enter: Vanilla chai breakfast shake topped with two scoops (yes, TWO) of oatmeal cookie ice cream.
And this is being typed with one finger because the other is in the food processor bowl which just happens to be full of Brownie Batter Dip.
Gotta go Katie- I need to clean this bowl up so I can start making the Cake batter dip next.
As in right now. See ya sista:)
Kit-Kat says
Funny, that’s all they’re showing where I live, too (swimming, gymnastics, diving, and volleyball). I do love those sports, though! I just wish that I could see the Equestrian sports. I love horses! I saw on the replays that Germany won show jumping, but I’m hoping that I’ll be able to see dressage or cross-country jumping at least :-/
The popsicles look soooo yummy! Do you think blueberries could work in place of the strawberries?
Chocolate-Covered Katie says
Sure, why not? I really don’t see why it wouldn’t still taste good :).
Emily @ www.main-eats.com says
Those look super refreshing! Especially with all of this crazy heat!!!
Erica says
The fact that there is kale in it makes me happier than I could describe.
I only watched a bit of the Olympics last night, however I have been cutting back my TV so I have not watched very much. The part I watched was the Balance Beam (US and Russia) and I feared the same thing but the girls did such a wonderful job.
carolyn says
Another comment from me about what you could sub for strawberries in this… (yes, I do ask this a lot. Life would be much easier if I could just eat the darn things…)
Danica @ It's Progression says
the girls gymnastics team did amazing last night!! I even got chills again this morning when I saw highlights of it on espn : )
Jenn says
Katie – Totally off topic, but I’ve had a vita-mix on my Christmas list for a while. Then I got my Consumer Reports in the mail today and it was reviewing blenders. Woot! I thought I’d share that although Vita-mix was the top scorer, the Ninja Master Prep Prof QB1004 was only 3 points lower (looked like it had a very good instead of excellent for puree/grate – otherwise the same or better than vita-mix – better on noise…) and Ninja was rated a best buy b/c it was just $60 to the vita-mix $450. Hmmm. Thought it was interesting and just wanted to pass that along in case you were curious! As always, loving the recipes. Whenever I make something the kids say: oh, is that from chocolate covered katie? 🙂
Sarah the official CCK drooler says
LOL- so do my siblings!!!
Kathryn says
I love this…but I wanted to warn you about the new WW pointsplus system. When you destroy the fiber content of a fruit (like blending it), it is No Longer 0 points plus. In this case, you would need to place all ingredients into the recipe builder to determine the proper points on this. I would figure it out for you, but I don’t have the amount of pops it makes.
Jessica says
Hey there. I just wanted let you know that blending does not destroy the fiber; it just chops it up. As long as you are eating or drinking something made with the whole fruit, you are getting the fiber. WW gives Points Plus values to fruit when used in recipes because you are more likely to over-eat when you are not chomping into a piece of fruit. Since overeating anything (even the good stuff) isn’t good for you, WW makes them count.
Now, if you use or drink fruit juice, you are missing the fiber that would help you to feel full. That’s why WW gives PPV to juice.
Emily @ Glitz Glam Granola says
Omg these smoothie pops are so cute and they look so delicious! I love that you can just make them in paper cups too- that makes them so easy! I’m going to blend some of these up to have on hand as they would be perfect to grab on the go- what a great idea!
Kathryn says
When I used the WW online Recipe Builder and put in the ingredients listed with a serving size of 4 (as in you make 4 pops from this recipe)…it gave me a value of 1pts+ per pop. It is what it is. I don’t agree with it all the time, but it is still better than the old system and it encourages to eat more healthy and make healthier choices. I don’t always agree, and like Donelle, I use my best judgement. I happen to love WW for the simple fact that I do choose the banana over the cookie now (where at one point, I wouldn’t).
jenica says
we used to make pops like these when i was a little kid. sooo tasty, i can’t wait to make them again.
Alex says
Those look pretty good especially with the heat we’ve been having around here.
sarah l says
I’m finally going to buy popsicle molds on Saturday 😀 can’t wait to try these!
Ww seems so complicated, but I’ve never looked into them, so I guess I should’t be judging. 🙂
Nina says
Hello, these look fabulous. Would you please tell me how many of these small popsicles you made with the recipe in these quantities?
Thanks so much for all your wonderful posts. I made and thoroughly enjoyed many of your recipes/concoctions. 🙂 xx
Alex @ Healthy Life Happy Wife says
I love swimming & gymnastics but I can wait for track events!!
Bek @ Crave says
Haha, someone is loving the olympics? I’m watching them atm 😉
Diane Lassen, RN, HHC says
I just made these in a double batch with fresh Jersey peaches instead of strawberries and chard from my garden. A bit green in color, but awesome to boot!! I used agave but will use maple syrup next batch when I try blueberries or home-grown blackberries…..yum!!
Lisa Ann @ Best-Food-Processor.com says
looks very yummy!
Sarah says
Since summer is coming up I was wondering if you could post a bunch of recipes for fruit Popsicles. Even in the same blog I just really want some good recipes and can’t seem to find a ton of combinations and you’re my favorite blogger!
Tony @ Blend Your Smoothies says
Yummm do those look delicious. They will be perfect for a hot day by the pool 🙂
Thanks for sharing with us!,

I realy like it i will try it

One day, I might try one of these.

What is the sugar content of these pops?
