I just loved all the comments left on my last post. They were so much fun to read. And now that I think about it, why not try pizza oats? I bet they’d be good—melt a little vegan cheese into the oats, pour on some sauce, and voila! A delicious savory-oatmeal combination. But I’m not feeling brave enough for that right now.
Anyone want to be my guinea pig? It doesn’t have to be with oats; I bet rice or barley would be yummy too!
But enough talk. You didn’t come to hear my motor mouth; you want to see about this chocolate-cookie oatmeal, right? Well then, let’s continue with yesterday’s story. Where were we? Ah yes, in the Secret Oatmeal Lair…
Sure, it would have been easy to just crumble up chocolate-chip cookies into oatmeal and call it a day. But:
- I was up for more of a challenge.
- I wanted the oatmeal to be a little more nutritious than that.
- I didn’t have any chocolate-chip cookies on hand (sad, I know).
And so, after toiling many hours in the oatmeal chamber, I concocted this gorgeous creation:

Presenting Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Oatmeal!
CCV’s Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Oatmeal
(Serves 1 lucky person)

Ingredients:
- 1 serving dry oats (40 grams) or another hot cereal (such as kamut or spelt flakes)
- ½ cup non-dairy milk, plus more if you want to cook your oats in it.
- Dash of salt
- Vanilla extract
- Chocolate chips (I used Rapunzel dark chocolate chips)
- Sugar to taste—If I were making the recipe for myself, I probably would’ve either eaten it sans sugar or used the Melted Banana Trick. But my friend doesn’t like bananas (Seriously, why am I friends with this girl?!), so I used brown sugar for her.
- Walnuts
- More dry oats (You’ll see why)
Method:
- Cook up 1 serving of oatmeal with a little salt (I used about 1/8tsp), and water or non-dairy milk, or a combination of both.
- You can cook the oats ahead of time and fridge them until you’re ready to proceed with the recipe.
- Throw some chocolate chips into the oats and microwave until the chips are melty.
- Put the oats into a blender (I used the Magic Bullet short cup) with ½ cup of non-dairy milk, the sugar, and a few drops of vanilla extract.
- If you want your oatmeal to be a bit chewy, blend for a very short time. Blend longer for a more pudding-like consistency.
- Transfer the oatmeal to a bowl and mix in more chocolate chips, raw oats, and—if you’re so inclined—chopped walnuts.
So what did Oatmeal-Hater Friend think of the above invention? Well,I’ll take it as a good sign that she only stopped devouring her oatmeal long enough to give me the thumbs-up. It would’ve been two thumbs up… but her right hand was otherwise engaged
.
Ok, I did my good deed for the day. Now I’m quite worn out. Off to Dreamland.
Other chocolatey entries in the Decadent Oatmeal series:
Stop by tomorrow, as I’ll be continuing with the Oatmeal Theme.
Whatever shall I whip up next? Creme Brulee Oats? Jelly Doughnut? Pecan Pie? Sauteed Spinach Oats?
Oops, I took it too far.

Yum. Sounds too good to be breakfast! Well….almost
Obviously, that would be awesome. Even without the banana, because sometimes, a girl just doesn’t want to deal with the banana flavour (or is that just me?).
And perhaps if I get the urge, I’ll test out some pizza oats. But what pizza toppings to choose?!
mmmm, what’s not to love about cookie dough? for breakfast!!
Yay! Glad your friend is now an oat lover! Those look decadent my friend!
Mmm that is sounding great! You come up with the best ideas!
Mmmm, what a great recipe. I’ll be sure to try it soon! By the way, the pizza oats still sound slightly strange to me but I guess toaster-oven pizza on oatmeal bread would be good. And I know that pizza rice is good because I loooove rice and tomato sauce. I’m sure if anyone can make it good you can!-Lisa D.
wow. if i was your friend and lived close to you, i would totally lie and say i didn’t like some type of food (like any grain haha) so that you would make an amazing concoction like this for me.
bwahaha evil plan, huh? it would be worth it!
I used to eat a lot of savory oatmeal…its yummy! I keep meaning to have it again, I haven’t had it since I was vegetarian and put cheese in it!
Im loving your oatmeal creations!
Good luck with your hectic week!
That sounds awesome!! Definitely gonna try it soon!
Good job on converting another! These oats are spectacular sounding. Definitely must try! The addition of the raw oats sounds tasty and cookie dough like!
I have a friend who I was trying to explain the deliciousness of oats too and found she doesn’t like cooked bananas or pumpkin! I was appalled.
Oh my goodness that looks amazing! You’re brilliant! Hmm pecan pie oats or tollhouse pie oats! Or carrot cake or chocolate eclair. Alright, so I’m a little hungry right now, haha.
Awesome! Yay for converting people to oats!
pecan pie sounds good! I definitely want to see someone make pizza oats
I think you could easily do a pizza oat cake!
This is absolutely awesome and going in my delicious cookbook so I can try to win over the boyfriend with it!
NAOmni
I’m so glad she liked it!! Woo! I bet you could convert anyone with your recipes though. They are seriously the best =)
Yes!!! Thanks for being so quick to post your much-awaited creation! It sounds wonderful… And I never buy choc chips anymore, but on a whim today I got a handful of carob chips from the bulk section. I’m so glad I did because now I can try your oatmeal! And I’m going to do it tomorrow!
You are too much! Shall we call you the Blended Cereal Queen? Or maybe Chocolate Covered Blended Cereal?? I had blended rice (no sugar though, on this diet–sniff, boo hoo) in your honor this morning!
I think you can make just about anything with oats… savory, sweet, etc. – they’re just so versatile! We should have a challenge – who can make something out of oatmeal that no one would ever have thought could have been made out of oatmeal.
Haha, a little wordy, hope you can understand!
OH MY YUM! Katie, you’ve outdone yourself (and that’s pretty hard to do!). I think I’m definitely going to have to give this one a try (with an oat substitution
but still….
)
Love the recipe!
How can anyone not love a bowl like that.
Yumyumyum tasty goodness. Love this idea and LOVE your experiments with oatmeal! So much opportunity for fun and creativity
Katie, you are a genius! I’d definitely go your route and use the mashed banana trick, too. I recently came across a recipe for banana filled chocolate chip cookies, and this looks like a great, easy, alternative!
Sounds pretty awesome, my dear!
BTW, I’ve been meaning to ask–what difference does blending your grains make? I’ve been interested in trying it for a while, but I was just curious as to what texture I am supposed to be aiming for.
Yum! It looks very tasty! Always fun to see what you’ve cooked up Katie!:)
I knew you could convert that oatmeal-hater! lol
breakfast tomorrow morning! if i can drag my lazy bum out of bed before noon, that is – reading period pre-finals, it kills me! : )
xoxo
I LOVE chocolate chip cookie dough. LOVE IT. I may have to make this for brekkie in the morning.
I’ve contemplated a savory blended grain dish. Cheese grits are big down South, so maybe something along those lines. I’m thinking, I’m thinking…
good work on creating that bowl for a oatmeal hater!
i bet it was hard to resist even for her!
Sounds to good to be true! YUM!
Yum!
Nice work converting her! Every time someone says that she isn’t an oatmeal fan, I just think, you are NOT eating the right kind of oats!
hey katie,
those oats look great. confession time: i’m not an oatmeal hater per se–i just don’t eat it unless i’m really sick. i think of it as food i eat when i’m not feeling well. since i’m relatively healthy most of the time, i hardly eat it. what a shame.
anyway, pizza oats sound kind of gross BUT you could make a pizza millett dish. that would work. cook millett in a rice steamer and top with sauce, veggies, and vegan cheez if you please.
lastly, i’m sorry to hear of your nanna’s passing. i’ve been playing catch-up reading posts and apologize for the late condolences.
Awsome oats, maybe it could be even more decadent with some non dairy butter (thik EB) and choc. chip granola! Worth a shot…
katie.. not only are you the queen of cupcakes, you are now the duchess of oatmeal… wow…im drooling on my key board now.. danm
Cookie dough for breakfast sounds like a winner to me. What a good friend you are!!
Katie, I love you! You’re the best oatmeal maker eva! And I’m glad your friend appreciated your effort.
Sounds good!
It’s not pizza oatmeal, but I had sloppy joe quinoa for lunch today!
I had left over sloppy joe stuff but no bread and left over quinoa (I like quinoa for breakfast). I mixed sloppy joe stuff and quinoa and warmed it up and sprinkled vegan parmesan on it. It was really good. I think I liked it better than sloppy joes on bread, although I still like the quinoa (blended with banana) better as an oatmeal alternative.
PS–my sloppy joe stuff is vegan. It’s made with TVP.
OMG! Best idea ever! I love me some chocolate chips and that looks amazing!
I’m thinking that pretty much anything is better with chocolate added, but that might just be me!
Might have to have this for breakfast mañana!
You are a PRO. That oatmeal sounds faaaaabulous. I adore chocolate chip cookie dough. Probably more than I adore the actual cookies. Therefore I just might have to make this decadent bowl soon. But there’s no way I would miss out on adding banana in there!
I need to get with the times and start blending away!
Exorcise me!! I would LOVE to like oatmeal! Mr. Wing-it eats it for breakfast every morning and it always smells so good, but my taste buds reject it every time I try it. Grrr!!
Congrats to your oatmeal-hating friend for crossing over to the oat side!
Ooooh, I always feel naughty when I put chocolate chips in my oatmeal. I’m gonna blend up one of your oat recipes soon, I promise!
your oatmeal creations make me hungry!!!
damn…’nuff said.
Haha, just got caught up on the “pizza oats” and all that gloriousness. That would definitely be a savory experience, to say the last! I think I may prefer chocolate chip cookie dough oatmeal
It looks great, CCV!
This is great! I totally don’t understand how anyone can say they don’t like oatmeal because oatmeal just presents so many possibilities that there’s at least one for everyone!

Miss Katie,
I made this oatmeal last night to have for breakfast this morning.. the only addition is that I added some cookies and cream spirutein protein powder. The end result: I basically had to practice self control to not eat it last night and save it for the morning.. ANd I was so excited for breakfast that I couldnt wait to go to bed to wake up and eat breakfast.. ahhah nerd, i know!
Great ideas CCK!
You are the oatmeal queen! I’ll say it: I don’t like oatmeal. But I do like oat bran, so I hope I can still be in the club. Blending oatmeal is an interesting prospect though, I bet I would like that! Especially with all that chocolate in it.
