Breakfast Cookie Dough

Breakfast-Cookie-Dough_thumb

Cookie dough for breakfast.

Finally, a reason to love Mondays.

Breakfast Cookie Dough!

When I was little, I saw commercials for a cereal called “Cookie Crisps” that claimed to taste just like cookies for breakfast. Obviously my 7-year-old self begged and begged until my mom finally relented and bought it, cautioning me the entire time it wouldn’t really taste like cookies.

She was right, of course. Cookie Crisps tasted not like cookies, but like a different c word: cardboard. (Sadly, I didn’t learn my lesson. The next year I made her buy Count Chocula, another cardboard-esque breakfast cereal.)

With today’s recipe, you can finally have a cereal that really does taste like chocolate-chip cookies and milk all blended together.

Breakfast Cookie Dough

Breakfast Cookie Dough

(serves 1)

  • 1 cup flake cereal (bran flakes, cornflakes, spelt flakes, etc.) (35g)
  • 1/3 cup Mori-Nu tofu, or yogurt of choice (80g)
  • 3/4 cup milk of choice (180g)
  • 1/4 tsp pure vanilla extract
  • 1/8 tsp salt
  • sweetener of choice (such as stevia, sugar, or even maple syrup)
  • handful of chocolate chips
  • optional:1 tbsp peanut butter, or 2 tsp coconut or veg oil (or sub another nut butter for the peanut)

Blend together all ingredients, except chips. (I use a Magic Bullet.) Stir in chips. The cereal will have a thin consistency at first, but if you leave it in the fridge (after blending) for even just 10 minutes, it starts to get really thick. Good cold or hot.

Breakfast Cookie Dough

Growing up, did you have a favorite breakfast cereal?

I took turns with Frosted Flakes, Cinnamon Toast Crunch, Kix, and Life. But my all-time favorite was Apple Cinnamon Cheerios. When I was going through a growth spurt in 7th grade, I’d routinely come home from school and polish off an entire box!

By the way, one of the Cookie Crisp slogans is, “You can’t have cookies for breakfast, but you can have Cookie Crisp.” Ummm wait a second… who says you can’t have cookies for breakfast?!

Growing up (and to this day) I had an extreme weakness for cocoa puffs! Mostly because of the chocolate milk at the end 🙂 I can’t wait to try this sometime – I’ll probably make it for a after dinner dessert soon!

  2. Olivia @ OmNom Love says

My dad used to make oatmeal everyday before he went to work and he came up with his own cookie dough oatmeal recipe. It was delicious, albeit not very healthy. I’ll definitely be trying your version, because I miss cookie dough oatmeal a ton.

My favorite breakfast cereal has always been cinnamon rice Chex. Also cinnamon toast crunch. Basically, any breakfast cereal with cinnamon was my favorite. (Not that I don’t like chocolate, but breakfast companies just can’t seem to get the chocolate flavor right.)

  3. Amanda M. says

I liked Cap’n Crunch when I was younger… Oh, and Trix. but we always had a plethora of sugary breakfast cereals. Funny, because now my preferred cereal is Kashi flakes or puffs. Although, I am pregnant right now, and had a random hankerin’ for some Cocoa Pebbles… ha ha!

  4. Eating 4 Balance says

Yum! This looks so good. And it is perfect because I can’t eat your chickpea dip because beans bother my stomach… But this is awesome! 🙂

Oh my gosh I went through so many different cereal phases. I like Lucky Charms, Frosted Flakes, Cookie Crisp, Honey Nut Cheerios, Fruit Loops, Captain Crunch, Honey Bunches of Oats, Corn Pops, Trix, Rice Krispies with tons of sugar… I loved them all! Well, except fruity pebbles and Reeses Puffs. I just couldn’t get into those, or any Count Dracula chocolate cereal. I don’t really like chocolate for breakfast 😛 *Gasp* I can’t believe I just said that! Haha.

  5. Carrie says

Thank goodness I gave breakfast a miss this morning, because when this just showed up in my blog reader, I jumped up to make it! Yum. I have made a bunch of your other breakfast concoctions and I believe this may be my favorite! I just recently allowed my kids to get fruit loops for the first time as a treat and although I never had them as a kid, I was surprised how much I liked them now. Luckily I measure out portions for the kids so I do the same for myself or I’d eat the whole box after they go to bed!

  6. LJ Briar says

My all-time favourite was (and still is) Cinnamon Toast Crunch, but because it was basically all sugar, my mother only bought it a few times a year as a special treat, not to actually be eaten for breakfast. Nowadays I crave it, but it’s expensive, so I just keep my eye out for the occasional sale and try to make it last when I do have it.

  7. Shoshana @ShoDelicious says

OMG Cookie Crisp was my favorite breakfast in high school. I’d have a huge bowl with ice cold milk, then of course drink the chocolatey leftover milk. And bring a baggie of cookie crisp with me for my after swim practice snack. Totally not healthy at all post workout nutrition but I didn’t know any better back then and the stuff was darn good. Honey Nut Cheerios was another staple back in the day. Today, if I were to have a bowl of cereal, I’d probably go with something like honey nut cheerioes, then I’d throw in granola with all sorts of nuts and dried fruits, and maybe some white chocolate and chocolate chips. The the more stuff the better! Those cereal bowl bars are a no-go for me – I might go way over board!

  8. casey says

Blend cold cereal?! Honestly doesn’t sound appealing. Especially the “wait till it thickens” part. It sounds like soggy cereal! I have not tried making it, so maybe something magic happens when you blend? So sorry, not trying to put down a recipe ESPECIALLY one I haven’t tried, but I just don’t understand. Perhaps if you use really high quality thick flakes? I’m picturing plain old Kellogg’s cornflakes blended with milk left to sit on the table for a few minutes. I can’t stand soggy cereal! Perhaps the tofu helps? The picture LOOKS delicious, BUT think I will stick with my CCK inspired oatmeal. 🙂

    • Olivia@ OmNom Love says

I think she means hot cereal flakes, not the kind of cornflakes Kellogg’s makes that you just pour milk on then eat. But I agree, blending up corn flakes with milk does sound gross. I can’t stand soggy cereal either.

    • CJ says

I just tried the recipe today, and I was a bit skeptical because I, too, HATE soggy cereal. I also usually detect the tofu taste in CCK’s recipes that blend in Moti-Nu. I figured that it didn’t hurt to try, though, since I had all the ingredients on hand. I loved it! It really does take on a whole new quality–doesn’t resemble soggy cereal at all, and the flavor is great (not sure I’d classify it as cookie dough tasting, but it sure is yummy). Seriously, try it before you call it gross. It really reminded me more of a cold porridge or oatmeal.

  9. Laura M says

Thankfully, I was never allowed to eat sugary cereal, so my favorites included Oatmeal Squares and Cheerios. Now I usually find ways to sneak chocolate into my oatmeal or cereal with Barleans (thanks to Katie’s give away, I’m hooked), protein powder or chocolate chips 🙂

  10. Erin | The Law Students Wife says

Couldn’t agree more on the cookie crisp! Who would eat that? This, on the other hand, looks like the yummiest, healthiest way to try cookie dough I could dream of. So creative! I never would have thought to put these ingredients together. Thanks Katie!

  11. Courtney says

omggggg how I wish I wasn’t in China to be near my vitamix and a Publix to make this! haha oh well~~ getting 8 chocolate bars shipped to me hehe

  12. Sunnie says

I used to LOVE a cereal by Kashi called “Chocolate Pillow,” but they discontinued it YEARS ago . . . I was about 7 or so when they stopped making it. It was puffy chocolate cereal with chocolate taffy-like stuff inside; hard to describe, but amazing. Katie, you would have loved it – it was super-rich chocolate! Also, I lived Cinna-men (I believe it was made my New Morning) and Coco-motion (again, I think New Morning made that), but they discontinued them! We bought them at health foood stores . . . they were amazing.

    • Katie says

Have you tried Krave by Kellogg? Sounds really similar and is one of my favorite. It’s pretty much a complete chocolate sugar bomb – but so delicious!

  13. Alan says

Do you or anyone else who has tried the other recipes like this think the Original Large plain Shredded Wheat Biscuits would work? Would you say use one or two? Thanks for any thoughts

    • Anonymous says

You are right! It really did. A neighbor used to always have it and we ate it right out of the box. I got some a few years ago and it was bad.

      • Annie says

I remember it being that way in the ’90s too (although probably not as much). I think it was only in the last 10 or so years that the quality really went down

  14. Alex says

Yummmmm! Quick question, though. Okay, I cannot eat any “flakey” cereal due to food allergies. So, could I use Rice Chex instead? Would it still turn out as delicious looking and tasting? Thanks!

      • Annie says

I made this recipe out of granola and came out really sticky (but that could be from the dried fruit in it) w/ a slightly crusty shell that formed on the surface after fridge-ing. It was ok, but texture was off-putting and only tasted good bc I blended in cinnamon.

The first time I made this recipe was actuallly the day b4 the granola version, out of high-fiber twigs-and-flakes cereal, and vanilla yoghurt. The only difference was that I let it soak first and then blended, and it came out too thin. Could reversed order actually have that much impact on this recipe?

    • Hannah says

I know this is a little late, but I just used corn chex because I have a gluten allergy and it came out perfect! Thickened and everything ☺️

  15. Mary says

I just made this breakfast cookie dough and really liked it!
i ate a couple spoons of it and then thought i would stick it in the microwave for about 1 min 30 sec so the chocolate chips could melt, and it came out even more divine!

  16. Demelza says

When I was younger, my favorite thing was picking all the marshmallows out of the Lucky Charms cereal. I also like Cocoa Krispies and Oreo O’s cereal, even though it tasted nothing like Oreos. xD

  17. Allison says

Is there no end to your awesomeness? I now can not wait for breakfast tomorrow! I am obsessed with your site! Thank you for delicious healthy desserts and please don’t ever stop!!!!!! 🙂 🙂 🙂

  18. Mandy says

Awesome! I was wondering how I could use up more of the Bran flakes that I bought for the “Better”fingers recipe. Thanks Katie!

I’m surprised that no one mentioned Reese’s Peanut Butter Puffs cereal yet. I ate that everyday for about a year. Every now and then I still get cravings for the chocolatey/peanut buttery powdered coating.

  19. Dani says

I absolutely LOVE cereal. I wake up in the morning exciting to eat my bowl of cereal with soy milk and strawberries (or other seasonal fruit). It never gets old! Surprisingly enough, I like the really healthy-high-fiber-low-sugar-cardboardy-delicious cereals like Fiber One (or the trader Joe’s version). Despite my love for the ‘cardboard’, I like other flavors too, and this cookie dough breakfast looks delicious.

    • Annie says

Haha me too! I love high fiber cereal w/very little sugar in it . . . plus I never get tired of it for breakfast. I used to think I could live off just cereal and milk – my discovery of the Cereal Diet!

  20. Megan says

I also was not frequently allowed sugary cereal as a kid, but I have always loved to do cereal combinations. My favorite was probably Wheat Chex, Rice Chex, and Cheerios. I learned this from my dad. Now when I allow myself to buy sugary cereal, I LOVE Honey Nut Chex and Multigrain Cheerios. Don’t stray too far, do I??

  21. Am says

I would say that Life was my favorite cereal when I used to eat a lot of cereal. And then, later on, when Mom was buying us healthier stuff, I liked EnviroKidz cereal the best: Koala Crisp, the lemur cereal was my favorite (but they discontinued it) and Panda Puffs!

  22. Quin says

Yumm! Sounds absolutely delish! Just a suggestion about some of the recent updates: A lot of my favorite food blogs provide step-by-step photos, and I think it would be especially helpful for your recipes! Since you are such an amazing photographer I think it would be great if you provided these photos, so we know where we should be at each step.

  23. Lauren says

Mmm, looks delicious! Will definitely be trying, I just love you and your recipes 🙂 Maybe you could make some vegan carmel apples for the fall? I would love that!

  24. Allison says

Funny, you picked out my two favorite cereals as the yucky ones 😉
Don’t eat those any more though. I think I’ll be way more satisfied with a breakfast like this!

  25. Lauren says

My mom was really healthy, so I never got to indulge in the cold cereals I would have liked. My (healthy) favorites were Cheerios, Just Right (I used to pick out the dates and eat them), and Rice Krispies with raisins!!

  26. Life's a Bowl says

I’ve never thought of “blended” cereal- sounds good! I bet oats would be a good sub for a cooler fall morning 🙂 One of my childhood favorites was Kix!

  27. Lily Fluffbottom says

Looks pretty tasty, though I’ve never really been a fan of soggy cereal, so I’m not sure. I was all about cocoa puffs. With Chocolate milk.

  28. Laura says

I actually already came up with this after seeing your banana/ pumpkin bread in a bowl! Except I ate it as a late night snack. Sometimes you’re out of bananas and opening a can of pumpkins just seems like too much effort! 😀

  29. Kimberly says

Katie, this is wonderful. Thank you! I have been making your cookie dough dip for the past couple of weeks, but sadly none of it has made it to the dip bowl as I have been devouring the whole thing straight from my food processor! I can’t wait to try this one. Your recipes are wonderful for me, because I need to avoid sugar, because it aggrevates my PCOS. Keep the cookie dough coming!

  30. Lauren @ Oatmeal after Spinning says

This sounds SO good!! I don’t have any cereal in my pantry (except hot cereal) but am really tempted to swing over to the grocery store after the gym tomorrow morning so that I can make this! The chocolate chips are making my mouth WATER. Literally.

  31. Amanda says

I looove sugar smacks! I don’t get cereal a lot, my son is 19months and was recently introduced to Krave cereal at my moms so we always have a box as a snack time fave.
I can’t wait to try this, I’m bad at breakfast though, I always skip it! This probably wouldn’t keep overnight though, would it?

  32. Andrea says

Hmmm, I think I just found my breakfast for tomorrow morning! I love recipes that I can make the night before, as I’m a roll out of bed and brush my hair and teeth quick before running out the door for work kind of girl. Usually, that leaves me with smoothies or protein shakes for breakfast so recipes like this one are always welcome in my kitchen!

I also went through phases with my favorite cereals growing up. However, I tended to favor Trix, Kix, and all varieties of Cheerios (except recently. I’m not so crazy about the banana nut [which sounded more delicious than it is] or the chocolate ones.). I did go through a cocoa puffs period, though!

  33. Christi says

I ate a lot of breakfast cereal as a kid..its hard to say which one was my favorite..I used to love it when my mom would buy me those variety packs with all the different cereals in small sizes! I also really liked Kix and Lucky Charms but I would only eat the marshmallows. Does anyone remember Ice Cream Cones cereal? I have vague memories of it, lol, I don’t think it lasted long on the market.

  34. Jet says

My mom once bought a case of Cheerios. We ate it for breakfast, snacks, made marshmallow treats and trail mixes with it. We crushed it up and made bread and pancakes with it just to use it up. We got sick of Cheerios. It took 20 years before I could eat them again! But I don’t think I’d ever get tired of eating Golden Grahams or Life cereal. Or cookie dough- for sure.

  35. Dalyce says

this looks amazing! I just made some, but Over Night Oats style with unsweetened almond milk & maple syrup, plus additions of 1/2 TBSP of Dark Chocolate Peanut Butter & Chia Seeds. Hopefully they turn out alright in the am.

As for cereal, honestly, my sister was always obsessed with Cookie Crisp, and some of my friends from Las Vegas still are, but I personally could not get enough Crispix or Life cereal, always with Soy milk. Now, I’d opt for the same, plus Puffins are a new obsession!

  36. Rena says

One Word- AMAZING!!! I was about to go and have myself a plain old bowl of cereal when i remembered that i wanted to try this. I didnt have any tofu or yogurt in the house so i made it with just the 3/4 cup milk. It was a bit liquidy so i put in a sprinkle of chia seeds to thicken it. Let it sit in fridge a few minutes and now i am enjoying it. Wow tastes like a cookie for breakfast!!!!
Oh and i did add in about 1 TB of cashew butter.
SO SO good! Thanks so much Katie!

    • Rena says

And this is really really filling. Usually i would still be hungry after one bowl of cereal, but as i’m eating this i really feel like its filling me up.

  37. Lia says

Can I just applaud you for your creativity here. Why not blend up cereal? I mean why not right? I love how your mind works to create flavors and great recipes. This sounds just perfect as winter comfort breakfast. I was a Fruit Loops kid when I was really young and then became a Honey Nut Cheerios lover as I got older. Now I’m more prone to buy some sort of wholesome flake cereal and mix in pecans and raisins or something.

  38. VanessaG says

I loved(still due, just don’t buy them =pure sugar) Fruity Pebbles cereal. I’d eat a box in two days. My favorite kind besides that is Honey Nut Cheerios. It is soooo good. 🙂

  39. Michele says

The calorie count for this sounds really low. I am figuring about 100 or so calories for the cereal. About 75 for the milk and 30 for the yogurt. I’m just wondering how you came up with the calories. You didn’t count the chips, correct?

My favorite cereal growing up was Captain Crunch Peanut Butter! And I loved the charms in Lucky Charms!

  40. Nicole D says

Does the type of flake-cereal matter? I know you haven’t tried it with special K vanilla almond, but do is that the same type of flake as a bran flake? I am so excited to try!

  41. Allison says

Wow, just had my first bowl–so filling, and easy to boot! I mixed everything except the bran flakes and chips last night, and then blended in the flakes and stirred in the chips. YUM!
As for childhood cereal, I loved Fruity Marshmallow Krispies, which didn’t last long, and Golden Grahams (I had a love/hate relationship with the Golden Grahams–their sogginess was at the same time satisfying and annoying!)

  42. Maise says

I didn’t have any bran flakes so I just used rice crispies.. unfortunately it wasn’t a good sub 🙁 It might have worked if I used 1 1/4- 1/2 C crispies & lowered milk to 1/2 ? Even though today was a fail.. atleast I still have the REAL recipe to try when I get me some flakes! LOL 🙂

  43. Beckers says

Oh boy this looks good! I can’t wait to try tomorrow.

I was a weird child, I hated all of the sugary cereals. I only liked Cheerios. My Mom would buy us Honey Nut Cheerios for a treat but I did not like them at all. I just wanted plain old Cheerios, no sugar added.

  44. Nasim says

I think I love you just for coming up with this!!!! best recipe EVER!!!!
it will be my dinner after I get the ingredients tomorrow 🙂
    THANK YOU!!!

  45. Grace says

I love your recipes!!! I was really excited to try this one and made it last night and let it set in the fridge for breakfast this morning. It didn’t taste like cookie dough but had good flavor. The texture was a weird though so I couldn’t finish it… I might like the pumpkin one though.

P.S. Your pumpkin bars are my FAVORITE. Made em three times. They’re awesome.

  46. Lizzie says

Best. Breakfast. Ever. It tastes divine! (I used oat milk)

My favorite cereal was/is “nougat bites” from Spar (cereal shell filled with nougat). Too much sugar, too much fat, but it’s basically Nutella for breakfast 😀

  47. Shannon French says

I think I actually smelled this through my computer. I am not joking. It was great.

On another note, I’ve asked around a bit in the blog world, but I know you’re big on Q and As and I know that you’re now safely in the categories of vegans who’s friends and family are well aware and you don’t need to explain things anymore. SO.. advice?

Recently made the transition from vegetarian to vegan and it’s harder on everyone else than on me. How can I go to dinner parties that I’ve always gone to but now explain that I can’t eat anything because it all has dairy in it? What do you do when your friends forget and get you gifts that you aren’t going to touch? I hate offending everyone and making them feel guilty, but if I want to keep this up I have GOT to find an less stressful way to dealing with meeting friends for dinner. thoughts???

  48. jen says

will this wk with water instead of milk and quick oats instead of cereal? if not, what cereal would have same value as oats?

  49. Autumn says

Ahhh and again you are my savior! I used to eat oatmeal every day for breakfast, but unfortunately my body suddenly decided it wasn’t cool with that anymore… I have been eating cereal and milk for breakfast for awhile but this is sooo much better!

I made it with multigrain cheerios for the cereal, banana instead of tofu, and peanut butter!! SOOO good! No sweetener needed with the banana’s sweetness 🙂 Thanks CCK!!

  50. Ruth says

I’ve tried the cookie crisps and they were a disappointment! The cereal looks incredible, I think I’ll have that for dinner today, yumm!

  51. April says

The hardest part about this recipe….holding back the sinister laugh as the kids ooh! and ahh! And say things like “this is really good!”… Nothing short of brilliant is this simple cereal twist! I have a milk allergy son, so I made this without yogurt, and used almond milk. Tossed in some toasted almonds because, why not? Would my kids ever touch whole wheat berry and flax seed cereal, no way of course not! Will they happily eat ‘cookie dough’ breakfast- you betcha!

  52. Silver says

This looks amazing! If anyone tries with oats, please tell us the results!
Also would this be good with weetabix? I love them and they seem a similar consistency.

    Thanks Katie 😀

  53. Sophie Rae says

Do you think that plain greek yogurt would work in this? Or would the flavor be too overwhelming/ the texture be too thick?

  54. Silver says

    Hi everyone!

I modified this recipe a bit becasue it just looked so delish, I HAD to try it even though I didn’t have the same ingridients!

I didn’t have any bran flakes, so I used 2 weetabix (they looked similar texture) and a couple tablespoons of raw oats. I also didn’t have any vanilla essence, so I subbed with deluxe vanilla yogurt instead. Also, (yes mor changes!) I added cinnamon because I love it so much, added a dollop of almond butter, and instead of choc chips I used 3 small choc-covered caramels.
And can I say, one word, AMAZING.

My favorite breakfast recipe ever! It’s great also becasue you an change the flavour to suit your style and it think it would be great with berries etc to.

Also, I couldn’t finish the whole portion so I put the other half in the freezer for a few hours and it was so amazing! Like creamy nutty but smooth yet textured icecream!

    Thank you so much Katie!

I highly recommended this recipe to everyone! <33

  55. KM Duff says

I didn’t like it cold, but when I put it in the microwave for a few seconds, the texture changed completely and the chocolate melted and it was pretty good. 🙂

  56. Kerry says

    Looks yummy!

I was obsessed with Oreo Os as a child, but when I was living in Korea last year my dormitory served a chocolate cereal and a flake cereal every day and I went through a phase where I got it every morning! 2/3 flake to 1/3 chocolate and it would leave the most amazingg chocolate milk at the end. I’m glad that phase passed quickly though because Korean-style breakfast is delicious and way too time-consuming to do just for myself 🙂 On an oddly related note, Oreo Os have been discontinued everywhere EXCEPT Korea… I should have bought a box while I was there for old time’s sake!

  57. Jennifer says

This cereal is delicious! At first I wasn’t sure about the texture, but it grew on me and I really liked it. Two enthusiastic thumbs up! 🙂

  58. s says

this was awesome!! i even made extra and ate it several days later…it got a little mushier, but it was still just as yummy! my only issue is that i can’t decide if i like this better warm or cold! seeing as Sandy has given us a couple early SNOW this year, i will probably be eating it warm!! thank you for the recipe! i also made your sweet potato chili this week… my whole meat-eating family loved it. as i am writing this, i am eating/drinking a healthy vanilla frosty (with blended blueberries and strawberries added)….and i bought all the ingredients to make sloppy lentils later in the week 🙂 thanks for all the great and healthy ideas! you’re the best!

  59. Kerry says

Wow… I made this for breakfast today and it was amazing! Just made another batch for tomorrow so I don’t bother my roommate with the blender… but that’s actually just an excuse to grab a spoonful of it while I made it… Added a few chocolate chips and microwaved to get it melted in, then added a few solid ones broken up into smaller pieces for different textures 🙂 Love the use of tofu! I only had Korean soft tofu on hand but it worked fine.

  60. Caroline says

If you add some cocoa powder and bake it in the oven, it is like getting an enormous brownie all to yourself for breakfast. amazing.

  61. kate blue says

Came by for a different recipe, but since i was here, i thought i’d try this for the kids. I do recall my parents buying lots of cereal and i too loved Honey Smackd and Honeycomb the best. I actually also loved just plain Corn Flakes so i could add my own raisins since real Raisin Bran got sooo soggy. I am one of those strange people who have never ever really cared for chocolate so i never ate chocolatey cereals.

  62. Giulia says

Hey Katie can’t wait to try this!
Mornings are super hectic for me though (cause I like to sleep as much as I can haha), so do you reckon I could make this the night before? what kind of consistency would it be in the morning?
Last thing, could I use instant oats instead? don’t have any flake cereal in my house right now.
Love the blog! Keep up the good work 🙂

  63. Julia Smith says

Ummm I made this with Greek yogurt and I DO NOT reccomend with Greek yogurt! 😛 It made me want to throw up haha! I was really upset, but dont worry Katie, I don’t blame you! 🙂 Your recipes are awesome and I love this website! Next week I’m trying Baked Pumpkin Oatmeal! Yum! 🙂

  64. Elle says

Katie, eating this was almost uncomfortable because it felt SO MUCH like I was literally sitting there with a bowl of cookie dough. And then scraping my food processor clean…(and by scraping I mean eating)…oh, man.

I used mini chocolate chips — do NOT skip those; they absolutely turn this into an indulgent delight.

I also used Nature’s Path Gluten free Sunshine cereal which already has a honey/maple flavor, and I used greek yogurt instead of Mori-Nu tofu (not a vegan).

  65. Highly Caffeinated Chef says

I’ve had this for breakfast everyday for the past week- so incredibly good. For some reason every time I cook it it has a different consistency. I prefer it thicker, but sometimes when I make it- it has a liquidy consistency no matter how long I keep it in the fridge. Any idea on how to get it to that thicker consistency? Could it be that I blend it too long? I am new to eating Vegan. I have a humungous sweet tooth- and your recipes have all been amazing. Thank you!!!!

  66. Bobbi says

Just made this right now, I had just ran out of chocolate chips (shame on me!) BUT I happened to have a bar of lindtt 85% cocoa! I did the initial blending and added a couple squares then blended again! Such a good decision 🙂

  67. Laura says

I made this with pre-cooked oatmeal (using Katie’s volume oatmeal technique) and added almond extract and 1 broken up Ghiradellhi chocolate square. Delicious! I didn’t need to any extra milk though, I had just cooked the oatmeal so it hadn’t absorbed all the liquid yet. I just blended the oatmeal with the extracts and tofu, if anyone wants to try it with oatmeal.

  68. Charlotte says

Mine didn’t thicken at all and I honestly found it quite disgusting. I followed the recipe using plain yoghurt and a tablespoon crunchy peanut butter. I left it in the fridge for 12 minutes and it had only thickened a tiny bit. It was basically just soggy cereal. I tried heating it up but it didn’t help at all. What did I do wrong?

  69. Rosa says

    Hello Katie!
I love the fact that you have made healthy alternatives for chocolate-chip-cookie-lovers! Two kinds even! I just thought I would throw something out there. I have been eyeballing your chocolate chip dip version for a long time, and even though I know beans are very healthy, it is still a bit high in calorie for me to indulge the way I would like! Perhaps you should mention this as a lower calorie alternative for chocolate-chip-cookie-lovers on your choco-chip-dough-dip page for your fans to consider too! Thanks so much for sharing!

I just need to add that I finished a bowl and immediately made myself a second one. It is chilling as I type this. O_o

      You have created a monster.

I was weird and loved that corn bran cereal. Drizzled honey all atop. Yum! Wouldn’t touch that cereal now, with all that GMO corn. Blech!

Btw, I used my hard-earned babysitting money to buy the Cookie Crisp cereal. I was sorely disappointed.

This has become my absolute FAVORITE breakfast! The first time I made it, I accidentally added too much milk so added 1/2 tbsp chia seeds and 1/2 tbsp psyllium husk to thicken it up…. it was absolutely delicious! Since then, I have discovered that making it the night before and then heating it for about 1.5 mins about 30 mins before eating it is the way to go!! I add a little cool whip, ground flax, and sugar free chocolate syrup to the top for a “cookie dough sundae” breakfast bowl! Absoutely delicious!! Thank you so much!!

This looks delicious! I gave up chocolate for lent but I will have to try this with peanut butter or yogurt chips!

What could you substitute for the tofu or yoghurt? i’ve just seen this and HAVE to make it!! But unfortunately the shops are closed!!

I made this recipe for the first time this morning and subbed the bran cereal for 1/2 C. Old fashioned oats and 1 1/2 Tbsp. Ground flax and added 1/2 Tbsp. Earth Balance Coconut Peanut Butter and let me tell you oh my god! It tasted like a peanut butter cup cookie dough blizzard in cereal form. When I was growing up my favorite cereal was Trix mmmm Trix Cereal would be good. Im going to work on that tomorrow. 🙂

I love this recipe! I make it almost every morning! This morning I put my own spin on this recipe and made it into a vanilla almond chai breakfast cereal and it was amazing! All I did was boil the unsweetened vanilla almond milk I use and let a chai tea bag steep in it for around three minutes. I also added chai spices (cinnamon, clove, nutmeg, allspice, and ginger) to the nonfat vanilla greek yogurt I used instead of tofu. I followed the rest of the recipe as instructed and what resulted was an almost mousse like texture with a lovely chai flavor that was not too overpowering. Soooo good.

I can’t believe there’s like a billion replies to this post lol well ok, “cookie dough for breakfast…” maybe I can. For weeks and weeks when I was working bakery hours i.e 6am/7am shifts I used to get a lift with my dad into the next city which was about an hour drive. The night before I would make my breakfast: branflakes+any other cereal hanging around+soymilk+raisins+nuts+mini chocolate chips, I let it sit in the fridge overnight so the cereal would absorb all the milky goodness, in the morning I would add sliced banana, and eat it in the truck on th way to work – *yums*!

I found this blog a couple weeks ago and was thrilled!!! I tried to make the breakfast cookie dough oatmeal but it turned out like sweet cereal in milk. I used Special K original cereal and it turned out really thin and soggy. Did i use the wrong kind of cereal or what? I don’t want to say anything bad about this blog, but I would like to know why it turned out like that!

I made this recipe with cornflakes this morning. I let it set in the fridge for 10 minutes and microwaved it for over a minute and got the result that look reminiscent to yours. it tasted a bit like cookie dough with almond. the choc chips definitely helped!! I also added some cocoa. interesting and tasty recipe. *** 1/2 stars from me

My parents never bought me and my sister the really sugary cereal. We ate OrganicKids or the Trader Joe’s brand. But I’ve ALWAYS loved Cinnamon Toast Crunch. I don’t like chocolate flavored stuff.

This is yummy and a very filling breakfast! I usually have to tear myself away from the cereal box, but I didn’t actually even finish this bowl because I was satisfied with a full tummy. Very creative recipe, Katie!

Just made this for breakfast today, and I have to say the texture is very much like cookie dough! I let mine sit overnight. used unsweetened vanilla almond milk, Siggi’s Icelandic skyr strawberry flavor, and PB company’s dark chocolate dreams peanut butter. It was very good with chocolate chips in it, but the bites without chocolate chips did just kinda taste like soggy cereal. If I make this again I’ll use regular peanut butter and double the amount, and definitely add more chocolate chips! Curious about trying other kinds of cereal too. Wonder if Quaker oatmeal squares would blend as well as corn flakes? 😀

This was sooooo amazing! i blended the chips and added whole, left overnight, microwaved briefly then sprinkled a few more chips on top! OMG heaven in a bowl!!! Thanks katie

I doubled the recipe. I used kashi 7 grain flakes , and cartoned flaxmilk that is already lightly sweetened and vanilla flavored. So I left out the vanilla. I used 1T steva powder and omitted the salt and added about 1T chia seeds. Used vitamix and piured into 2 bowls and sprinkled with raisins and choc chips. Sit in fridge for about 5 minutes. This was so good! And so filling! Only change I will make next time is perhaps add a bit of cinnamon. Thanks!!

  84. Caroline says

Looks delicious!!!!! Would it be possible to make it the night before, and let it be in the fridge over night? 🙂

Oh my goshhh I REALLLY tried my best making this, and it is in the fridge right now thickening, but I’m a 17 year old teenager living with her parents wanting to make this at 10:38 PM while they were asleep (AKA, no blender or nutribullet could be used. Didnt want to wake them.) instead I crushed the flakes really fine and then mixed the ingredients. I hope it worked!!

This is delicious! I usually eat oatmeal for breakfast every day, and this is a great way to change things up a bit. I can’t believe how filling it is — maybe even more filling than oatmeal! I made mine with a hand blender and the stuff I had on hand, including All-Bran cereal, 2% milk, plain Greek yogurt, and a touch of raw sugar. I’m with those who couldn’t picture a bowl of blended cold cereal being very tasty, but it really is. BTW, it also worked for me to let everything soak together before blending, rather than after — turned out exactly the same. I do recommend eating this on a day you can be generous with the chocolate chips. 🙂 Katie, thank you so much for all your inventive, delicious, healthy recipes!

  87. Diana says

I liked this, but it did not taste like cookie dough in my opinion. It did thicken up nicely in the fridge after 10 minutes, though! I used unsweetened original almond milk, tofu, under 1/8 tsp salt, 1 T almond butter, and a few sugar-free chocolate chips. I used corn flakes that were naturally sweetened with fruit juice and ended up adding 1 Truvia packet to the mixture to up the sweetness. I think the corn flakes and almond butter masked the flavor of the chocolate chips, so if I make this again, I might melt the chocolate chips and swirl them in. I would also probably reduce the almond butter, but not eliminate it. Adding butter extract might also be fun.
