Sugar Cookie Milkshake!

sugar cookie shake

This tastes like you’re drinking a sugar cookie.

Ok, that just sounds weird… but this is really good!

sugar cookie shake

Ensure? No thanks!

If you’ve been reading my blog for a while, you probably know I don’t really like being as skinny as I am. Although I create recipes that can be very low in calories, I usually take advantage of the higher-calorie options if making them for myself. To keep weight on, I pretty much have to eat 24/7, which works out perfectly since my job entails lots of taste testing! Winking smile

In high school, I often drank vegan “weight-gain shakes” called Power Dreams. However, two things happened: the company discontinued the shakes, and I bought a Magic Bullet. So now I make my own shakes! (I wrote more about my weight-gain efforts at the very bottom of this link.)

cookie milkshake

Big thanks to reader, Kate, for inspiring this milkshake.

A few months ago, she left a comment on my Cake Batter Milkshake recipe, suggesting I experiment with adding cream of tartar to my smoothies for a fun cake-like taste. Of course, as soon as she said it, I had to try it. Thank you, Kate!!

Sugar Cookie Milkshake

(serves 1)

  • 2/3 cup milk of choice (try canned coconut milk for an ice-cream-like shake)
  • 1 frozen, over-ripe banana or 1/2 cup of your favorite ice cream (see nutrition link below, for my many substitution options!)
  • scant 1/4 tsp baking soda
  • 1/4 tsp cream of tartar
  • 1/2 tsp pure vanilla extract
  • optional: 1-2 tbsp raw cashew butter (I like to add this)
  • optional: add cinnamon for a snickerdoodle shake!
  • optional: 1 scoop protein powder, if desired

Blend everything together until very smooth. Don’t add ice; it will dilute the flavor. Feel free to crumble an actual sugar cookie into the shake as well! (My “healthy sugar cookie” recipe is linked at the end of this post.)

What is your favorite milkshake flavor?

According to an online poll, the most-loved milkshake flavor is chocolate. Surprisingly, people chose strawberry over vanilla. My favorite was fourth: mint-chocolate-chip!

Mmmm! This sounds like drinking cake batter! Something about makes me want to put it in coffee or chai.

    • Samantha says

I wouldn’t have even considered myself a milkshake person and I have greatly enjoyed the ones I have tried from this site. This one looks really good and I love the idea of adding cashew butter!

  2. Sarahishealthy says

    OH. MY. YUM.

Cream of tartar and baking soda? Well… if YOU say so, I will have to trust you and try it. Gosh look what you’re making me have to do. 😉

Those photos are gorgeous! (I know I know, why am I surprised?)

    • Samantha says

Good to know. I was just thinking cashew butter is probably really rich without a really dominant flavoring (like when I use peanut butter or coconut butter). I would never have though about nutritional yeast!

    • Anonymous says

Do you add the 1 tsp of nutritional yeast to the cashew butter or this milkshake for a cake batter taste? I guess inadvertently if you add nutritional yeast to cashew butter it would be added to this drink though.
I generally get a cheesy taste from nutritional yeast when I add it when cooking, but I LOVE anything cake batter! I must try it

  3. Juliana says

    Oh my goodness! YUM!!!

I’m simple – my favorite is vanilla.
Yet…I’m thinking that might change after I make this… 😉

  4. shannonmarie (rawdorable) says

I used to go for the crazier milkshake flavors, but now I really love vanilla, if the vanilla is pure and delicious. I especially like shakes with actual vanilla bean seeds in them. Sometimes simple is best.

  5. Amanda says

Yum! My favorite milkshake flavor has always been vanilla. Boring to some, but to me it is a never fail classic.

  6. Samantha says

I believe right now my favorite is the peanut butter cookie dough milkshake which I had chocolate chips too.

I finally got peppermint extract yesterday so an entire new world is about to open up. When I was a kid, chocolate chip mint was pretty much the only ice cream I would eat.

  7. Anna Banana says

I’m in love with your mint chocolate chip milkshake and have used it to convert several of my friends to spinach consumers! I’m going to have to try this one because I happen to have a bag of cream of tartar I bought several months ago in the bulk foods section of the local co-op. I’ve been trying to figure out uses for it and I just bet cake and cookie milkshakes will be a great choice.

  8. Mandie says

I think the best milkshake flavor (healthy) is
YOUR Chai-Nana milkshake! (also your mint chip one!)

But, a chocolate fudge milkshake (or malt) ranks pretty high.

I still have to try your pb milkshake, but undoubtedly it will be good!
    😉

  9. Cole says

Shoot, just need to try this now!
I almost always got Strawberry when I ordered milkshakes as a kid! It’s my second favourite fruit, following Mangoes.
Although just last weekend my best friend introduced me to the most amazing tasting Avacado shakes… Though I learned they’re a horrifying 1,300-odd kcal the way she makes them. (They reach that staggering number mostly due to the condensed milk.) Absolutely delicious calories mind, but SO NOT an everyday treat.

    • Samantha says

This actually made me laugh…I have a few items like this. 🙂 Avocados really bulk things up which I love about them. I haven’t experimented with making vegan condensed milk but there are options out there and it might knock down some of the calories – but hard to say, there is a fair amount of sugar and vegan margarine added. I have no idea what it will do to the taste however and if the calories are a wash maybe not worth it. 🙂

      • Nathalie says

It’s not really milkshake-related, but it is avocado-related!

When I make vegan mousse, like Katie’s fudge pie, I often will replace some of the tofu with 1/2 an avocado. Honestly, the tofu+avocado combination is superb with nothing but a pinch of sweetener and salt. You don’t even need to add vanilla! But it of course works great as a base for chocolate or what-have-you.

If you make it unsweet, and add a bit of vinegar or lemon juice, it tastes like a really rich, delicious mayonnaise as well.

I haven’t tried using it for a milkshake per se (I find myself drawn to desserts I need to eat, rather than drink), but I imagine it would work splendidly to add body and creaminess.

  10. Tricia says

This looks amazing 🙂 I’m so happy that you’ve been putting milkshake recipes on here because that’s the only thing I miss since being vegan ^^

  11. Leslie @ healthybybalance says

Ummm, no, it is not weird to drink a milkshake! It is simply efficient! Not to mention delicious! I share your frustration with wanting to gain weight. All through high school I hated being skinny. All the other girls had curves and looked like actual girls. Unfortunately I didn’t have any healthy role models, so I turned to fast food and desserts to try and gain weight. I know this has played a huge part in my health as an adult. Fortunately I did realize this at some point and changed my ways. I’ve been a veg for about 4 years. And I actually like my body now! Which is also fun.

  12. Trish @ MyBigFatBundt says

I say blend in an actual sugar cookie! Those sugar cookies are FABULOUS. I raved about them on the actual blog entry a few days ago. I made a batch and took them to a house where we were trading massage and other energy/body work, and when the children had come in from school, those cookies were gone in less than FIVE minutes. The girls declared them the best cookies they’d ever had! Pretty serious accolades coming from 9 and 11 year old girls. 🙂

  13. Patrick Timpone says

Wow this looks intriguing to say the least. I think the vanilla and the cashew butter would make this taste quite good.

Do you buy the cashew butter by Artisana? That stuff is uber expensive! 🙂

  14. Pixie Vincent says

Katie, this looks so good! I wish, though, there was some wonderful way for those of us who are chubby vegans to share some of our problem with you hard-to-keep-weight-on ladies! Wouldn’t that be handy? ;D

  15. Jeannie says

For those chocolate lovers, try Hot Fudge shakes. They are much more sweet than the chocolate. I actually prefer Root Beer shakes as my favorite, though. Make a root beer float, and blend. mmmm

  16. Jessica says

Katie, I don’t believe that your calorie counts are accurate here. I just calculated this with 1 medium banana, unsweetened almond milk, and 1 tbs of cashew butter (without adding anything else) and it already comes to 255 calories. I have found the calories counts on some of your other recipes inaccurate as well. There are some very good, nutritionist-checked counters on other sites. I like http://recipes.sparkpeople.com/recipe-calculator.asp and the one on myfitnesspal.com

    Thanks!

    • S. says

      Her counts are accurate.
The cashew butter says it’s optional, so I don’t know why you’d include it in your calculations.

      From,
      An avid calorie counter

      • Vanessa says

She probably included the cashew butter in her calculations because Katie herself wrote “if I’m making them for myself, I usually take advantage of the higher-calorie options” and “optional: 1-2 tbsp raw cashew butter (I like to add this).”

    • Lisa C. says

I don’t think I’ve ever seen a nutritional analysis that takes optional ingredients into account. It’s just standard practice not to, and especially in the case of Katie’s recipes she offers so many options and variations that she’d have to include 20 different nutritional analyses if she was going to include optional ingredients!

Also, I always double check blogger’s calorie counts (because I’m ocd like that), and I’ve never found a problem with CCK’s, so I don’t think it’s fair to say her recipe calculations are inaccurate.

      • Jessica says

Ok, I just checked this. I calculated with ONLY plain almond milk (unsweetened) and 2/3 of a cup (If I remember, that’s about 5.333 ounces) and 1 medium mashed banana, that is still 138.5 calories. So, regardless of with or without the cashew nut butter, it’s still inaccurate. Secondly, Lisa. I check her calorie counts every time. It’s not a matter of fairness- it’s just true. Her calories counts are often inaccurate, especially because I go out of my way to ALWAYS do the lowest possible calorie option of all of her recipes. So, Gosh, I’m sorry you guys felt the need to get all defensive here, but the reality is, they are sometimes inaccurate. I don’t think it’s responsible to present inaccurate calorie counts on a blog that is so nutrition focused. Sorry to be so blunt, but that is the truth. Instead of all freaking out, perhaps you should just try to make sure you are accurately counting calories.

        • anon says

          *rolls eyes at Jessica*
Honey, you really need to get a life! And if this blog bothers you so much, just stop reading.
Also, for the record, I just plugged this into spark recipes with Silk almondmilk and got 122 calories. So score one for CCK ;).

          • Abby says

            Oh dear 🙁
Crazy debates like this are probably one of the reasons poor Katie was against adding calorie counts to her recipes in the first place!
Guys, do you realize you are getting upset over the possibility of whether it’s 120 calories or 130? Can’t you see how silly this arguement is?
Can’t we all just get along? ;).

          • Alanna says

I think people get defensive because this type of question about the accuracy of calorie counts comes up all the time, and it’s not necessarily helpful (even if well-intentioned). As others have pointed out, with so many choices of milk, optional ingredients, substitutions, etc, the nutritional info Katie provides should be treated only as a rough estimate of the healthiest possible version. I’ve seen different estimates just for how many calories are in a medium banana between different calculators, so it really is best to figure out the counts for your specific recipe variation if that is important to you and not worry about whether the info here matches exactly.

          • Sarah the official CCK drooler says

Ummm…. gee whiz… I kinda count calories, but I really don’t check CCK’s calorie count for anything. Mainly cuz its in my mouth and then I check it. Maybe once or twice I found it a little inaccurate. Like by one calorie lol. But I see it as a rough estimate. My sister adds a TON of sweetener to hers, so hers will be sky high in the calorie department.
But I guess you can say what you want to Jessica, free speech right people? 🙂
Also I am not in a CCK army or anything like that. that’s kinda freaky if you ask me.
            Respectfully,
Sarah who is in favor of respectful free speech (that’s a mouthful)

  17. Kristen N. says

I’m half-Costa Rican, and my mom makes a milkshake known as “horchata.” It’s milk, cinnamon, oatmeal, and some brown sugar all blended into pure yumminess! You should try it!!!

  18. Andrea says

Katie, I just made this (with the banana, unsweetened original soymilk, and without the cashew butter), and it really does taste like a sugar cookie!! Crazy! Never would have thought to add baking soda and cream of tartar… I really liked it! It did have a slightly “tart” aftertaste, however… is that how yours tasted or did I maybe go a little heavy-handed on my 1/2 tsp of tartar?

    • Chocolate-Covered Katie says

Did you really put in 1/2 tsp cream of tartar, or did you mean to say 1/4 tsp? If you really put in 1/2 tsp, that’s definitely the problem! The recipe only calls for 1/4 tsp ;). But if you put in just 1/4 tsp and it was still strange… hmmm well then I will have to think more about what might’ve been the problem :-?.

      • Andrea says

Hahaha, you caught me!! I can’t believe I did that!! Shame on me for goofing up your recipe! Ok, now I know it will be perfect when I actually make it the right way, because it was still pretty dang delicious even with my recipe-reading-mishap…

      • Andrea says

Bahaha, yes, you definitely caught me! Can’t believe I did that! User error, right? Lol can’t wait to try it the real way now! I know it will be great because it was still pretty dang delicious even with me reading messup. Sorry!

  19. Jules says

yummy! I love the suggestion of a crumbled cookie on top. I love cookies!!!
    My favorite milkshake is a date-yogurt-shake 🙂 but i’ll try this one…

  20. Julie says

Oh my gosh, peanut butter milkshakes all the way. There was a diner at Penn State that made them (they also had poodle skirted waitresses and jukeboxes in every booth). So good!

  21. Chelsea says

I worked in an ice cream parlor for several years, so I had plenty of time to experiment with making different shakes and malts (and everything else). My favorite, which I made again and again, is a cookies and cream shake, with a little extra chocolate syrup… I miss my shake… Fresh banana shakes are a close second.

  22. Rachel Harding says

True, chocolate-mint ANYTHING is awesome and almost always the best, BUT the one flavor that may trump that for me is chocolate-peanut butter-malt thickshake.
There is an 50’s style diner here in Eugene (Buddy’s) that makes them and I swear I practically lived on them when I was pregnant with my first son – before lactose intolerance set in and now they are off limits 🙁

    • Alanna says

Try CCK’s peanut butter cookie dough shake with cocoa powder and malt! I haven’t tried adding malt for myself, but the chocolate PB version is my favorite shake recipe on here. It’s so incredibly thick even with almond milk, and probably even thicker if you use coconut milk!

  23. L says

This looks awesome! Question: When you make it for yourself, would you put canned coconut milk? It is fun to hear from the blogger themselves about their preferences too 🙂 I usually go from vanilla bean, but you got me wanting a mint chip one now.

  24. Sarah says

Any of the following are acceptable in my book: Pumpkin, Coffee, Strawberry, Peanut Butter. Pumpkin ANYTHING is always welcome!

  25. Mandie Lauren says

Sounds really yummy! I’ll definitely give this a try one day!

I read about your weight gain efforts before, and I thought it was really interesting, just because I’m very different from you, haha. I’m eighteen, female, almost six feet tall, have very thick bones, and have always been heavy (my parents were young and didn’t know how to properly nourish a child, and I’m still working hard to get the excess weight and negative health effects from way back then under control.) I’m just… big!
It’s really interesting to me to see that while I’ve always wished to be slimmer, there are people out there who would like to be less slim. When you’ve spent your whole life thinking one thing, different points of view can be very intriguing. Regardless, rest assured you look lovely at any weight!

I love that even though your personal goals are not low-calorie eating, you create so many light recipes for readers like me (gluten/sugar/dairy free, watching calories) and it really increases our qualities of life! Everything in moderation, but I no longer feel like if I want a dessert I have to withstand awful stomach pain or weight gain, because your blog as provided me with so many lovely alternatives to traditional stuff. I feel like I can make a dessert and not pay a price. That’s so much stress off my mind!

You’re a fantastic blogger and seem like an utterly lovely person. I’m so happy for you, that you’ve found a job that is so in line with your goals and makes you happy! I’m also happy about it for selfish reasons 🙂 Lots of love from Canada!
    <3

  26. radioactivegan says

Chicago Diner has some delicious vegan milkshakes – and I’m sure they would help in any weight gain efforts! The last time I was there (nearly three years ago 🙁 ) I had a peanut butter-cookie dough shake that was fantastic. yum…

  27. Lauren says

    Hi Katie,
I absolutely love malts and am wondering if you have a recipe that might simulate that taste? Or maybe you’re working on one? :o)

  28. Juliana says

I’m just curious, what effect does the baking soda have? I’ve never seen it before! (I’m not trying to hate on your blog – I really love it!) I love to look at recipes to get ideas for my own creations, and I was instantly intrigued. 🙂

  29. Nichole says

Hello Katie! I wanted to let you know, I myself am a young vegan too. You have helped me remember why I was a vegan in the first place. God bless you!

  30. Mary says

That looks like a great milkshake.
Speaking of the healthy sugar cookies, I have a question about that recipe. Although the cookies were absolutely very soft and very delicious (I highly recommend them!), I couldn’t help but taste an overpowering baking soda taste. I’m guessing that since they’re vegan cookies, you’re using the baking soda as an egg substitute. How much of the 1/4 tsp + 1/8 tsp baking soda is used as an “egg replacement” and how much of it is used a rising agent??? I would like to experiment by reducing some of the baking soda and adding flax egg & I would so very very much appreciate you responding to this comment!

    • Chocolate-Covered Katie says

Nope, it’s mostly just for flavor. I love cookies with a baking soda kick! But I think you’d be fine to reduce it even to just 1/8 tsp without adding anything.
Obviously I can’t say for sure, but I *think* that’d be ok!

  31. Moni Meals says

    Easy enough. This sounds great!

That is interesting to know about the cream of tartar. I love milkshakes, Peanut butter or chocolate are hands down my fav. Not mint….ick! 😉

  32. Faith says

I love adding a bit of vanilla extract when I make shakes like this. It cancels out the last bit of banana flavor and really sends the flavor over the top 🙂

    • Jules says

and the best milkshake of all time i had was something called a Cake Shake where they blended a FULL cupcake (icing and all) in my milkshake and u get a realllllyyy thick straw so that you can get cake pieces in every sip….SO YUMMYYYY !!!

    • Alanna says

I’ve done this for the PB cookie dough shake (1 T Hershey’s Special Dark powder), and it’s amazing… I keep meaning to try it with the mint shake, though!

  33. Sarah the official CCK drooler says

someone PLEASE make a Nutella milkshake!
p.s.- that someone would be you Katie.
I suggest you get to it 🙂

  34. LizAshlee says

I am always a fan of chocolate milkshakes..maybe mint chocolate chip…oh, but then there’s cookie dough!! 🙂

  35. Jessica @ Feastie says

My favorite – chocolate malts all the way! Barley malt syrup, cocoa, vanilla, sugar, coconut milk – major yum. This sugar cookie shake looks delish – I’ll have to give it a try this week, since I have most of the ingredients. I’ve been using coconut milk (the thin kind in the box) instead of almond milk lately, and I’m addicted. I love shakes made with non-dairy milk – so creamy.

  36. Val says

Katie I just blended some of your Cinnamon Roll Pie into the basic milkshake recipe for a quick breakfast – heavenly!!! …maybe like a doughnut shake!?

  37. Cassie Johnson says

I made this and it is delicious! I make the voluminous ice cream out of almond milk in my ice cream machine and use 2/3 cup of the ice cream instead of liquid milk. It came out THICK, like hard to suck through a straw… which is just how I like it 🙂 Thanks Katie!

  38. Liesel says

    Katie,
I recently purchased Truvia baking blend and am confused on the calories/carbohydrates in the product. On the container it says 5 calories per 1/2 tsp. and 10 calories per 1-1/2 tsp. All of the calories come from carbohydrates. My question is how many calories/carbohydrates are there in 1/2 or 1 cup? I even called the company, which was not very helpful as they only restated that 1/2 tsp has 5 calories. Very confused!!

  39. Allison says

Oh my gosh, I used to drink milkshakes ALL the time! I love them and anything ice creamy.. however, when I gave up milk, it made it a little harder to get them. Until I found out that a juice bar at my uni did a soy peanut butter shake… I went every other day for breakfast from then on! And I think that peanut butter shakes are still my favorite.

  40. Anna @ The Guiltless Life says

Cream of tartar? So cool I have to try that – I definitely got into butter extract after I saw it in a few of your recipes, and found that that made EVERYTHING taste like cake batter! Is cream of tartar kinda similar in giving it that flavour?

  41. Jen Pilchak says

This recipe looks good! I think my fave milkshake is the mocha one you can get at Arby’s. But who am I kidding, I love all things and flavors that involve ice cream.
On a side note- when does the contest for the vitamix end? (I didn’t want to ask that on that post since I know you’re picking by the comments). Thanks!

  42. casey says

What exactly IS cream of tartar? Guess I need to research that. And butter extract like another reader posted, what’s that?! So much to learn! 🙂 love this blog!

  43. Alanna says

Mint chip was always my favorite milkshake flavor, but your chocolate PB shake has converted me into a serious PB shake fan! I need to try this recipe, but I’ll have to wait until tomorrow since I just ate your banana bread in a bowl and I’m so full, lol.

    • Alanna says

Update: having ths for breakfast right now, and it is divine! It really does taste like a cookie, and even though I used almond milk and no cashew butter (don’t have any), it’s nice and thick. Will definitely be making this one again!!

  44. Hanh says

My favorite is sinh to bo! (Vietnamese avocado shake) Not a traditional milkshake per say, but I blend milk, avocado, ice, and condensed milk. Agave can be substituted for the condensed milk, although I like the creaminess the condensed milk gives. Also, I’ve been reading that the agave sold more widespread in America isn’t as good as most people perceive it to be. It has a higher fructose concentrate than HFCS that it needs to be processed through your liver.

I just tried this one with almond milk minus the cashew butter. It’s weird, but I feel like the baking soda adds some fizz to it. Not sure why as I don’t recall having any acid that could’ve possibly mixed with it or anything. Personally, I don’t like carbonated beverages because of that feeling (although it wasn’t as extreme as drinking soda), so I think I’ll try it again with cashew butter and try a pinch of baking soda. But I love all your shakes Katie! Your Chai-Nana version is my favorite. I like to make it “dirty” by adding an espresso shot or coffee in addition to the chai when I need caffeine for those late nights studying! I love how much versatility you note to change up most of your recipes.

    • Chocolate-Covered Katie says

Hmmm… I don’t really like carbonated drinks either (or even fizzy water). I didn’t taste anything fizzy, but now I’ll try and make it again today and REALLY pay attention to see if I can taste the weird fizz you talked about.

I love your idea to turn the chai shake into a coffee one! 🙂

  45. Ami@dashofcurry.com says

I think cake batter or maybe red velvet just may be the best flavors for milkshakes ever, though I have never actually tried either of them! I pistachio milkshake sounds great too!

  46. Annette says

Oh my absolute goodness shiver me to my toes! That was an amazing milkshake. I had to go bug my 12 yr. old daughter, who was already in bed, make her get up and try it. 🙂 I generally don’t allow myself any treats like this for breakfast – I’m the whole mean mom that means breakfast must be full on power-packed – but am giving into the begs of “Please mom, can we have this for breakfast tomorrow?” You betcha! 🙂 After all, if I throw in 2 T. of cashews and there’s no added sugar, it classifies for a power-packed breakfast, hmm? 🙂 Thanks for an ingenious recipe, Katie. You’ve done it again!

  47. CarrieH says

Great inspiration! My shakes are always a post workout treat and this is a great way to change it up! Enjoying a twist on this, and while I always have vanilla protein powder as my basis, I jumped on the “batter” taste idea w/ cream of tartar and baking soda! …and for me…a peanut butter cookie! Some powdered peanut butter and a little peanut butter extract to pop the flavor…. Yum! Drinking a peanut butter cookie as a reward for an intense back day at the gym? Heaven!

  48. Andrea says

My second try, with correct cream of tartar measurements and an addition of almond butter, was delicious AND husband-approved! Thanks Katie!

  49. Kate Awesome says

If you want it to be super cold, just freeze the banana first; that way you don’t dilute the smoothie with ice. Can’t wait to try it, it sounds amazing!!

    • Alanna says

It says to use a frozen banana in the ingredients. 🙂 But if your blender is anything like mine, let the banana soften just slightly and cut into smaller chunks (I tend to freeze in halves) so it doesn’t have to struggle too much. I’m still amazed that baking soda and cream of tartar make such a difference in the flavor!

  50. Monica says

I would have NEVER thought to put a little baking powder and cream of tartar in a smoothie…but I just did a frozen banana/cocoa powder/almond milk smoothie with a little of each and it is SO good! Those two little additions brought out a completely new flavor profile. Incredible!

  51. Emily J says

I love vanilla malt milk shakes. I can’t remember when I last had one, though. Not only is it tasty, it also makes me nostalgic reminding me of my Dad.

  52. Christina says

gahhh I WISH I had your weight gaining problem!! hahah It’s such a challenge for me to keep it off! lucky girl! haah

  53. Isabel Barganier says

Hey Katie! Oh my goodness let me first say that i am absolutely OBSESSED with your blog! Im paleo and all your amazing recipes let me still have DELICIOUS food!! i tried this recipe and it turned out sooooooooooooo good!!!!!! It seriously tasted like i was eating a sugar cookie! thanks SO much for all you do! Love, Isabel 🙂

  54. Shannon says

Where does everyone get these awesome glass straws I keep seeing? How classy! Got to love my morning milkshake: frozen banana and berries, coconut flour (for fiber!), flax (for more fiber!), maybe greens, and whatever non-dairy milk was on sale that week. Great recipe, Katie! I didn’t have any nut butters, so I mixed in one scoop of vanilla protein powder and it was fantastic. Thanks for this!

Hey guys. This looks really great and I can’t wait to try it, but I’m hoping that maybe someone on here, or kate – could try an EGGNOG MILKSHAKE! That would be amazing! Has anyone else tried making one? I tried simply mixing some vanilla ice cream and eggnog, but i couldn’t get a decent portioning of the eggnog to the ice cream and the whole mix came out really… pretty much like watered down milk in look, but the taste was decent enough. But i was definitely hoping for a thicker and creamier milkshake… like the ones at Steak N Shake! Can anyone help me out?

Thanks Kate for a great website. Since I was diagnosed with Cancer and am seeing a Naturopathic Doctor, I have been advised to stay away from Dairy Products. Seeing how I love Chocolate and Sweets, your site has helped me to create a much needed treat without having to use simple sugars. Seeing how glucose feeds cancer, using alternatives has helped a great deal. Already modified your 4 Step Ice Cream for a Chocolate Ice Cream Treat. Can’t wait till I put it in my Ice Cream Machine. Thanks!

I mixed it up a bit and added an extra banana for thickness. Instead of cashew butter I added peanut butter and a scoop of marshmallow fluff. Fluffernutter cookie shake YUM!

Thank you for this, Katie!! I too have issues keeping weight on but I always feel self-conscious eating all the time. Thank you for giving me the courage to keep snacking!!!

I love this milkshake recipe! I’ve made this for dessert for the past 3 nights and slowly enjoyed every last drop. I used a frozen banana (as opposed to the ice cream) and the milkshake is shockingly thick, and I also added cinnamon. However, on the second evening I halved both the baking soda and cream of tartar for a more mild taste. I am SO glad I found this recipe!
