How to make healthy flourless pancakes at home, with just 3 ingredients, no gluten, no dairy, and no refined sugar in the recipe.
3 Ingredient Flourless Pancakes
Although the idea for 3 ingredient flourless pancakes has been going around the internet for a few years, every recipe I’ve ever seen has always included an egg as one of the three ingredients.
In trying to think of something for the eggs, I listed all of my favorite egg substitutes.
Banana was especially intriguing to me because it not only could replace the egg as a binder but also would add potassium and give the pancakes some natural sweetness.
I didn’t know how it would turn out, but I was excited to experiment.
My favorite recipes are the ones where you look at the ingredients and think, “There is absolutely no way this could possibly work!”
Two examples on my blog of these types of recipes are the Avocado Smoothie Recipe or my chocolate Almond Butter Brownies.
You go into it expecting the recipe to be a big fat flop, then you’re completely shocked and thrilled when it actually turns out exactly the way the directions said it would!
These 3 ingredient flourless pancakes definitely fit into that category.
One banana, 1/2 cup oats, 3 1/2 tbsp milk of choice, and that’s all you need to make pancakes.
Who knew?!?!
Top the pancakes with maple syrup or fresh berries and Coconut Whipped Cream.
I’m sure someone will ask about a substitute for the banana: I haven’t tried anything and therefore really can’t tell you if something else will work here.
(Edit: sweet potato works!)
If anyone wants to experiment with applesauce or pumpkin or nondairy yogurt or anything else you can think of, I’d definitely love to hear the results of those experiments.

Flourless Pancakes – 3 Ingredients
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup rolled oats (Or make these Keto Pancakes)
- 1 medium banana (90g peeled), or mashed sweet potato
- 3 1/2 tbsp milk of choice
- pinch salt, and sweetener of choice as desired
- cinnamon and chocolate chips if desired
Instructions
- *If using a liquid sweetener, cut back on the milk by the amount of sweetener you use. And if you don't have a hand blender, either double or triple the recipe for a regular blender OR use scant 1/2 cup oat flour instead of the rolled oats and mash the banana by hand. The Recipe: Grease a skillet VERY well so the pancakes won't start to stick before they're flip-able. Combine all ingredients with a hand blender, then pour ladles of batter onto the greased skillet. As soon as the pancakes are cooked enough that you can get a pancake flipper underneath without breaking the pancakes, flip and cook an additional minute. The recipe makes 6-7 small pancakes (size of the ones in the photos). If you make a larger batch, leftovers can be refrigerated or frozen.View Nutrition Facts

Gosh you’re so adorable!!!
Laura says
You are so gorgeous and I wish my hair looked half as beautiful! Better to have an overexpressive face than to never smile and try to hide your expressions because it causes lines like I’ve heard some celebrities say they do.
I’d never watched Dr. Oz before, but I tuned in for your show and you were terrific!
s says
Gorgeous sure, because its photoshop. She clearly photoshopped her body to be skinnier and hair to be thicker. You can see in the second to last photo that a piece of her right arm is completely missing! And in the first photo at the very top of the post, look at her wrist. Oops Katie? 😉
Chocolate Covered Katie says
Hi S,
These are actually screenshots I took straight from the clip. I have no interest in photoshopping myself to look skinnier.
Jill says
I can’t believe someone would pick apart your appearance and pictures. That’s mean. You’re gorgeous btw..
Donna says
Oh my gosh …….it takes a jealous person to bash you like that! I have your books and love to make your recipes!!
Carolyn Kane says
I went to reviews to get ideas and surprised what I saw…I skipped the video and just followed recipe and my son, who does not like oats, ate it (with honey, a dash of vanilla along with cinnamom and chocolate chips)!
I had doubled the recipe and it was blended quickly in my Vitamixer, on low. This is a great, quick, healthy and hearrt breakfast-ty!
Marsha Musselman says
I think that person needs glasses. I see your whole arm in all of them. It sounds like they were to busy finding fault to miss out on your recipe ideas.
JC says
You don’t have to defend yourself. Some people will never believe you, and so be it. You do a great job we have your back!
Julia says
Obviously you’re a bit blind… I can’t see a thing wrong with any photo other than the fact that she’s shaking her wrist. Katie has a post about body positivity and explaining that she does not support body shaming or eating disorders of any kind. Heck, the girl makes chocolate a designated spot in the day! Please think before you speak 🙂
Joyce T. says
I can’t believe that anyone would pick someone’s photo apart like S did.
She either has a terrible self image or is jealous. You obviously do not follow
Katie, or you would know that she doesn’t need to photoshop any of her photos.
She may have had he hair styled, and maybe a manicure. You really should keep your thoughts to yourself on people’s looks. Katie, take this tyof comment withgrain of slt!
monika says
Katie-what “s” wrote is a reflection of how she sees herself and the world and not how she truly sees you or the world.
Congratulations on this.
Syd says
After you mentioned it I went and looked and thought you were right until I looked closely at an enlargement – it’s a kitchen tool sticking up out of the bowl that is in front of part of her arm in the shot.
RBee says
At first I thought this comment was mean spirited, then I went and checked the photos, and I just laughed. I don’t think anyone with an IQ would seriously mistake the handle of a kitchen utensil for Katie having chopped part of her arm off!
Shannon Raby says
You just a jealous and miserable. Learn to love your self.
Michelle says
You jealous and bitter person, s. That isn’t photoshop. That is a handle of some utensil sticking out of a bowl. Plus, if she was really going to photoshop to make herself look better, I doubt she would have included the first picture in the last row. That is NOT a flattering expression even on someone as gorgeous as her lol!
trish says
S, you should just delete that comment. You seriously embarrassed yourself.
Great recipe! I make a batch on Monday to take to work. I throw two in a bag and have them with peanut butter at my desk. So GOOD! I like the consistency.
If I make them for a breakfast, I toss the mixture in a Vitamix until smooth and add a 1/2 teaspoon of baking powder. This gives it more of a pancake fluff consistence, which is what my husband would rather. He loves them!
Laura says
There’s a utensil in the bowl that’s blocking her arm. Stop being a bully
natali says
first of all she is skinny, so no need to photo shop, and secondly that is such a ridiculous comment. Don’t be a troll.
AggyG says
That piece of her arm ‘missing’, if you look closely is actually the handle of the whisk or spoon in the bowl. Why do people have to cast aspersions on others that they don’t know. How cynical. You need to get a life.
Marcia says
Wow. Simply narrow-minded, unnecessary and pathetic comment. People, if you can’t say anything nice, then stay off the internet.
Molly says
Her arm is not missing, there is a utensil sticking out of the bowl.
Kathy says
Wow, what does that about yo?
Ana says
Oops jealous much? XD
Thomas Lindsay says
Are you kidding me? This is a recipe website, not a modeling interview.
Katie replied that she didn’t photoshop, I could care less if she did. I’m here for the recipes, not the p#rn. You must have clicked the wrong burger link.
Recipes are great by the way, maybe included a bit of arm 🙂 for flavor.
Melysa says
WOW! “S”… are you hiding behind a letter for a name bc you are hateful and jealous to demean someone like that! I’d much rather be associated with someone who photographs their pictures… which I don’t believe for a minute that she does… than be associated with someone with a dark heart 🖤

Congratulations, you look beautiful! And I’m making these pancakes for breakfast tomorrow. My whole family is vegan because of you. We love Chocolate Covered Katie 🙂
JessD says
Would it be possible to substitute orange juice for the milk? I don’t like non-dairy or dairy milk.
Chocolate Covered Katie says
I’ve never tried, but be sure to report back if you experiment!
Marina says
As a vegan, I used to make my porridge (oats) with apple juice which gives it a beautiful, delicious, taste. On a few occasions, if I’d run out of apple juice I’d use cranberry juice – surprisingly good too. I now tend to use almond milk but if I want that beautiful, fresh taste then I revert to apple juice. This was for cooking porridge, however I would guess it could also work for these pancakes.
Stephanie Dallaire says
I just made them with Orange juice! They were really tasty! Also added chocolate chips to the batter because chocolate and orange pairings are an undisputed classic in my book 😉
Imogen Molly says
These look fab! I’ve got a recipe for egg-free pancakes on my blog too with these exact same ingredients, just slightly different measurements – will have to give this a go!
Laurel says
Your pancakes don’t look like they have chunky oats in them. When you say to blend everything with a hand blender, do you mean am immersion blender?
Chocolate Covered Katie says
They are the same thing 😉
Cherie says
Hi KATHIE,
This instruction to use a “hand blender” actually was a little confusing. They are two different sorts of tools. A hand blander has removable beaters and an immersion blender has blades. You may want to update the recipe to clear up any confusion.
Mary says
A hand “mixer” has removable beaters. A “hand blender” is an immersion blender.
Jessica says
The tool with two beaters is not a blender, it is a beater or a hand “mixer”. In order for something to be a blender, it needs to have blades. So there is actually nothing confusing or misleading by her saying to use a hand blender.
Peanut Butter & Ellie says
These pancakes look fabulous, Katie! I love that there are only three ingredients and that they may seem like a flop (or should I say flip? Hehe)… but they’re not! I can’t wait to try them!
I love the pictures from the Dr. Oz show! I’m the same way about expressing myself through my hands and face- it’s way more fun to be more expressive! Could you possibly post the Dr. Oz segment? I’d love to watch it!

Made these pancakes this morning. They are yummy! I used Kefir for my milk. I wondered how they would taste because my banana was almost black in over ripeness. Did not hurt the pancakes at all, in fact the banana flavor seems to disappear!

Thank you so much for making them!

These look so simple and I can’t wait to try them!
Chocolate Covered Katie says
Hi! Have you ever tried quinoa flakes? Not sure if you consider quinoa to be a grain and thus off limits; but now that you brought it up, I’m wondering how it would work here!
Sandra says
Oats give me indigestion. Wondering if almond flour or hazelnut flour would work. I have quinoa flakes and so might try that. Have had them a couple of years and never found anything to do with them.
Terri says
Sandra, I’d also like to try them with almond flour or meal instead of the oats. I realize you wrote your comment over a year ago but did you ever try almond flour? If so, what did you think? (I just made these today as written and they were very tasty. Thanks, Katie!)
Sara says
You are gorgeous! I don’t follow many food blogs, but I have followed yours for three years. It was so great to see you on Dr. Oz. I hope you do more tv shows or youtube videos in the future. It’s nice to see the person behind the pictures.
Cassie says
I’ve seen this recipe everywhere! I’ve tried it once and it’s so so good!
Emily says
Darn it – I wish this was on during one of the days that I was working from home (with Dr. Oz on in the background). I would have loved to see it! Good for you! http://www.enchantinglyemily.com
pdw says
I don’t like to use quinoa flakes in anything like this because I can still taste that bitter, grassy, quinoa taste in it. What I always substitute for oatmeal is buckwheat flakes! I’m sure they would work here.
Sandra says
Thanks for the tip. Since I’ve never used these flakes, I didn’t know that they had a bitter and/or grassy taste. I will look for buckwheat flakes. However, I need to use the quinoa flakes as I hate to waste food. Maybe I can find a recipe or two that would overpower the undesirable taste.
Life Diet Health says
Hello Sandra
I’ve a couple of recipes on my blog using quinoa flakes and yes you can perfectly sub the oats for quinoa flakes. I would blitz them to a flour first and just use it as normal gluten free flour. https://lifediethealth.wordpress.com/2015/05/02/health-in-a-bite-with-chocolate/ and https://lifediethealth.wordpress.com/2015/09/17/autumnal-cheesey-vegan-burgers/
Sandra says
Thanks much, I’ll check out your blog.
Kathryn says
Sandra-
I have quinoa flakes, and they really aren’t that strong. Maybe it’s the brand or just my tastebuds, but you should definitely try them alone. I made them as hot cereal, and they reminded me of cream of wheat.
About this recipe, if you use a nice ripe banana, that should overpower the taste of the flakes (or oats) you use. Adding cinnamon will help even more. I made some for dinner last night using oats, and all I could really taste were banana and cinnamon with a pancakey texture. They were good! I put coconut nectar and maple syrup on them (not at the same time). Butter (or buttery spread) and powdered sugar would be good too.
Hope this helps!
Sandra says
Thanks. I’m going to make these in the morning using the quinoa flakes and some cinnamon. Not sure yet what I’ll top them with. I have a VERY ripe banana that I need to use ASAP. Later on I’ll try the flakes alone as cereal, mixing in some cinnamon and whatever else I can think of.
Mary says
I love all the easy recipes. I love reading your blog and dreaming of making all the recipes I see in cookbooks but I’m not much of a cook so I usually don’t make anything. But these were even easy enough for me and they turned out great. Thanks, and keep the easy recipes coming!

You’re such a beautiful young lady, Katie, inside & out! I LOVE your dress! Where did you get it? It’s gorgeous! Congrats on your Dr. Oz segment. You did a great job. My kids and I are very expressive too. It can be a blessing and a curse, lol! But I’d rather be expressive than never smile. Just continue being you! <3
Chocolate Covered Katie says
Thank you!! 🙂
Dress is Ralph Lauren, from Macys.
Anna says
This is such a cool idea. 🙂 I’m wondering though, what sort of texture do these pancakes have??
Dana says
Very soft and fluffy. They are hard to describe but I really liked them!
Kathryn says
Mine were kinda spongey. I think it’s because I waited too long to cook them after blending up the batter, so the oats had time to absorb everything instead of be more like flour. They were still good!
Jill says
Can’t wait to try these tomorrow. They look so smooth. Do you grind the oats into a flour first or leave them whole? Thank you!
Chocolate Covered Katie says
You can leave them whole until blending with the other ingredients. Or you could grind them first if you prefer. 🙂
Life Diet Health says
Katie how wonderful that you have discovered these! 🙂 I make something similar at least twice a week! Check them out on my blog! https://lifediethealth.wordpress.com/2015/09/26/bursting-blueberry-pancakes-vegan-and-gluten-free/
Me says
I checked out your recipe, but I don’t use grams and ml’s so don’t know what the amounts would be. They sound good, though, I like the idea of putting blueberries on them.
Jackie says
Yay yay yay! You’re famous (although you probably already were ;-). Congrats!!!
Kristin says
This looks GREAT! Thank you so, so much Katie – and I love the link to your visit at dr.Oz, in Norway we don’t dr.Oz-show, so – thank you! Please keep up the 3-4-5 ingredience-recipes – just love them 🙂
Jennifer says
Hi Radka, I’m not Katie, but I greased my pan with coconut oil and the pancakes didn’t stick. I usually put some coconut oil in the pan to melt, and then I spread it around using some paper towel or a spatula. That way it covers the pan evenly. I hope that helps! Also, this pancake batter can be made in a food processor if you don’t have an immersion blender/hand mixer. They are delicious so I hope you enjoy them 🙂
Kelly says
Katie! This recipe might actually be my favorite recipe that you have ever posted! And that is stiff competition because I have followed your blog daily for years- I make just about everything you post (black bean brownies today as a matter of fact) and I have baked my way through your cookbook. I have already made these pancakes three times and I cannot wait to have a guest so I can make these for their breakfast. So thrilled to see you on Dr. Oz. You were gorgeous – smile, hair, nails, dress – and let’s not forget your sparkling personality! 2016 looks good on you.
Syd says
Totally agree with both sentiments!
Kinzie says
I taped that especially to watch you – you were so cute! and look completely healthy and of a normal size. I smiled through the whole segment. 🙂 Congratulations.
nataloon says
hahaha, these people about the photoshopping… they are hysterical. The rest of us that follow you know better. I’m sorry these people are cluttering your blog.
ANYway- as for the pancakes, I love them… most importantly the kids and husband love them too! 🙂
Naomi says
These are amazing, and taste like you’re eating banana bread for breakfast! I’m going to try adding flax seeds next time, for a little crunch and a calorie boost.
Amber Latner says
I made these pancakes over the weekend for my step-son and he LOVED them. They are naturally sweet from the banana so we didn’t even need maple syrup. So easy in the food processor too. Awesome recipe, thanks!
Kevin says
Your link above to banana free Swedish pancakes take me to a recipe with bananas. Otherwise I love your website!
Judi says
I love, love, love these! This is now my ‘go to pancake recipe’. I’ve made them quite a few times (without the salt or sweetener, not needed but my personal preference).
Ana says
Just tried this! Soo good! I’m going to try making it with apple sauce instead of banana next time.
Jennifer says
Just made these and they were pretty good! I used almond milk and added blueberries to my batter and served them with pure maple syrup. The texture reminded me of baked, soft, spongy oatmeal cookie/bar. For a healthier option, I would definitely make these again and recommend these to friends and family that are looking for a healthy alternative. I will be adding this to my recipe collection for healthy living. Thank you for sharing!
Makayla says
Thank you for this recipe! Perfect measurements and serving size! Ive tried multiple 3-ingredient banana pancakes before and they never turned out as good as these. My baby even enjoyed them plain!
Soomin says
I didn’t have bananas on hand when I was craving these flourless pancakes so I substituted applesauce instead – I eyeballed it and just kept putting in more spoonfuls until it got to the consistency I wanted. Cooking it was difficult, and sometimes it’d turn into mush in the fry pan (don’t worry – just reform it into a circle shape!) but in the end it was still pretty good compared to the original recipe! Now I can make these whenever!
Low carb yogurt says
Mmmmm! I could eat these every day! I never eat pancakes because of the calories and carbs, but these are a great alternative, without the guilt!
LMWilliams says
Excellent mix. We added an egg, some vanilla, and sweetened with a bit of honey and they turned out great. Topped with pure maple syrup and strawberries. Approved by a 10 and 3 year old as well. Thanks for the inspiration.
Jason Peckman says
I used your recipe as a base and included strawberries and blackberries in my batter. This would be fantastic in the summer, maybe served chilled with yogurt. And far lighter than traditional pancakes.
Megan J says
Hi Katie! These look delicious! I am in college and do not have a blender in my dorm, do you think using oat flour and just mixing that really well with the banana and milk would work? Thanks so much!
Elizabeth says
These are soooo good! They taste like banana bread! I made about 4 regular sized pancakes and topped them with 1T pure maple syrup, 1T part skim ricotta, and about 5 diced strawberries. …it was perfection. Definitely making these again..I still can’t believe it was so healthy but tasted so NOT! 😉

Thanks for the recipe! I don’t want to double the recipe but I don’t have a hand blender only a vitamix. Could I use my food processor?
Molly christensen says
Avocado chocolate mousse is excellent. I made the chocolate chip version. Love your recipes!
Meechey says
Some of you people SUCK! So judge mental and rude. If you don’t like the damn recipe ingredients, then move on to another recipe. Oats are not flour and, is fine just like she said it. Do any of you have a published recipe book, or been on tv; No, I don’t think so. Also, who cares what she looks like in her pictures? You actually take the time to enlarge her photos to see if anything is wrong? Look at your own self, and worry about the fat you need to lose.
Katrina says
These pancakes are so good – I could eat them for breakfast, brunch, and brinner! With the sweetness of the banana I didn’t have any need for syrup on them, either. I don’t have an immersion blender so I doubled the ingredients and blended them using a Vitamix. I was really impressed – the recipe gave me that nostalgic pancake flavor without eggs, dairy, or flour!
Emily says
These were delicious! Totally nostalgic for me, as I can’t remember the last time I had pancakes and they tasted, surprisingly, just like the ones I ate growing up. I don’t have an immersion blender, so I doubled up the recipe and blended everything in my vitamix – I was totally impressed.

Made these this morning. I only had instant rolled oats, and I added a little Cocoa powder and coconut agave. They totally fell apart (probably because I used instant), but I don’t care. They are so tasty, and my pregnancy belly hates everything lately, so anything that I like, I’m sticking with!
Thanks!

I am so addicted to these! I use almond milk, and I add vanilla extract, almond extract, and cinnamon. I also put the batter in my waffle iron. When they’re done, I add berries! I love them so much! Thank you so much for this recipe!

These pancakes were amazing!!! We added some chocolate protein powder but followed the recipe exactly!! We love pancakes but stopped having then because we’re trying to go “healthier”.
Thank you for this! I shared it with my whole fan!!! Ahhh
Gina says
I would like to try these with applesauce in place of the banana. What would the measurment for applesauce be? 1/4 cup or 1/2 cup maybe? Thank you!!
Nikolai says
Made these with a vanilla almond milk, I like them sweeter- but that’s a me thing. Retrying to be vegetarian (ran into some serious roadblocks a few years ago, like becoming malnourished since I was just a teenager that didn’t have the time or skill to cook three meals for myself a day) and since I have low blood sugar, replacing flour with oats is great for me. I’ll probably be making a huge batch of these and freezing them for fast meals before school when I don’t have time for soup. Awesome recipe!
lindsay says
Just enjoyed these for breakfast! I’ve recently switched to vegan and used to make “protein” pancakes with eggs all the time. I as looking for the same nutritional benefit… so I slightly altered the recipe to include 1/2 scoop of Vega Nutritional Protein Powder and 2tsp of Chia/Flax. I added 1 and 1/2 banana, 3/4 cup oats and 4tbsp soy milk. Made 4 Medium sized thick pancakes. They turned out amazing! Very hearty as well. This will be my new go-to. Thank you Katie!!
Nikky says
Hi Katie,
I want to start making these as part of meal prep for breakfast, say around every 3 days or so. Do they reheat ok? Thanks!
Jason Sanford says
You can probably freeze. Most pancakes freeze well.
Clare says
I’m eating these right now, yum ?
KelseyM says
hmmmm, I’m going to have to try this. I usually make them with a banana and an egg. All I have is vanilla flavored almond milk, hoping that works too! As to the other foolishness…ignore it, this is a blog with deliciousness and that is all we should focus on. Katie responded to the offender with class and we should all leave it there and stop shining a light on it.
Rach says
Hi! In the nutritional facts, is the number of calories for the whole bunch of pancakes or just one pancake? Maybe I’ve missed something, but I couldn’t seen to find out 🙂
Thank you in advance!!
Jen says
Would there be any way to make this without oats, or flour? My partner is following a strict elimination diet and can eat no starches, grains, legumes and so on… basically just fruit and veg and coconut milk!!
Terri says
Jen, perhaps almond flour/meal? I haven’t tried it yet but will next time.
Tayyeba Khokhar says
Hi , what can I use instead of milk?
Jason Sanford says
Well it depends on why you are wanting to substitute the milk… If it’s because of a dairy allergy or you don’t want to use dairy milk, Katie’s site is actually vegan and “milk of choice” means whatever nondairy milk you wish to use, such as almond or soy or even coconutmilk.
Marilea Johnson says
I had to edit the recipe because I messed up the original. Yes I know three ingredients how could you possibly mess that up? Very easily, if you’re me! But to my surprise my modifications made them good. Someone suggested to blend the oats, so I blended 1/2 cup, other half left raw, addded 2 tbsp of PB, added 2/3 cup gf pancake mix, and some vegan protein powder and pecans. My first batch my husband said they were to wet in the middle. The second modified pancakes were perfect texture. They were very hearty! I love your recipes! Your recipes make up a lot of what’s in my recipe app.
Cici says
Wow! This was amazing! I’ll definitely be making these again! So filling and tastes like a pancake. My son even loved it and was asking for more. Thank you for a delicious, healthy alternative pancake!
Adri says
This recipe is nice but faults information on the servings it yealds. I just made this today, followed recipe to the letter & I would like for you to be honest in saying what size each of the 6-7 pancakes you squeeze out of this recipe? Your recipe only produced 3 pancakes smaller thn coasters. One has to dbl up on your recipe to get the 6-7 you state.
Stacy says
I rarely eat pancakes because it seems too much like eating dessert for breakfast. I wasn’t expecting much when I tried these but they were delightful! They only took a couple minutes to make and cook and had lovely crispy edges like I like my pancakes to have. Will make these again for sure!
Suzi says
Can you sub for oat flour?
Jason Sanford says
You mean use oat flour instead of oats?
Isha says
I didn’t blend these, and just mixed almondmilk, banana, and oats, but these were amazing! Great recipe:)!
dawn says
hi katie,
usually when i make a recipe like this i grind the oats first, but your recipe says to put all ingredients in and blend. so i shouldn’t grind the oats first?
dawn
Jason Sanford says
Either way works!
dannie says
yummy panckes…….
Paulette Cross says
Any chance this would work mixing the ingredients with a spoon instead of a blender? I realize the oats are supposed to be pureed with the other ingredients, but I don’t have electricity and would still love to try these delicious-looking pancakes! Probably if I purchased oat flour, it would work fine, right? Probably about 3/4 cup instead of 1/2.
Jason Sanford says
I’m sure it would be fine with oat flour. Just play around with the amount 🙂
Shannen says
I just tried your 3 ingredient flourless pancakes and they were amazing! Thank you so much for the recipe. I shared them with my grandmother who is unable to eat gluten and is diabetic so they made the perfect dessert (using gluten free oats of course). They were so simple and quick to make, I’m now obsessed. I can’t wait to try more of your recipes. 🙂
Sarah-Beth says
Just had these and they are divine! It made 3 fluffy golden pancakes (around the size of tea costas). I cooked them in a tiny amount of vegan butter, then smothered in crunchy peanut butter and topped with hemp hearts and cacoa nibs. I’ve been craving pancakes and this healthy recipe really satisfied my craving.
Equation: banana + cacoa nibs + peanuts + hemp = heaven.
I would upload a photo (they look beautiful) however I ate them all before I got a chance?.
Katerina says
Amazing! Just made them and I served them with some peanut butter and homemade cherry marmelade. Really nice and easy to make!
Denise says
Delicious! I doubled the batch and enjoyed the leftovers cold. I also used a ceramic nonstick griddle so I didn’t need to grease it heavily. I did fold in some chocolate chips and for the sweetener I used a small amount of date paste per batch.

This recipe looks great, can’t wait to try them for breakfast or pudding!
Is it possible to bake these in the oven, if so what temperature/time please?
I’ve seen other pancake recipes where you can bake one big one but it’d be great to make lots of little ones to freeze.
Cooking in a frying pan isn’t always an option with my very busy toddler, so will be brilliant if I can just bung them in the oven!
Thanks!

I made these with pumpkin and they turned out great!! I quadrupled the recipe, threw in one banana and about 2 cups of pumpkin. The held together well and tasted good. I did find I had to use considerably more milk than the recipe called for, especially as the batter sat. For the quadrupled recipe, I think I ended up using closer to 3-4 cups of milk; I’m not exactly sure how much since I just kept adding milk to keep the consistency right. Thanks for the delicious recipe!

I followed a link from today’s email and found these pancakes. I made a double-batch and they are fabulous! I have tried another recipe for flourless banana pancakes and you’re right, it’s a lot of egg. I liked this one better and it was so easy, too. Thanks for sharing your healthy recipes! I wonder if I can sub my whey (leftover from making homemade yogurt), since it’s so nutritious and I’m always looking for good ways to use it up. I may try that next time. 🙂

Will this work with buckwheat flour? Thank you!

We have been using this recipe for around two years now and it is a continual go to. Thank you for it. I rank it five of five.

Katie, I have been following you for uears, but never commented until now. I have recently discovered even more food sensitivities than I already had and finding things to eat is becoming a struggle. I just tried your 3 ingredient pancakes…and while I don’t like banannas and seem to be having a slight reaction, they were very good!! I am wanting to sub non-dairy yogart for the bananna, but not sure how much to use? Your reply would be very VERY much appreciated! Thanks in advance, Jeanne (another Dallas girl?)
PS…my recipe photo below ?

I just finished making these pancakes. YUMMY!! I added some hemp hearts and a little vanilla and no sweetener. Very good indeed. Thanks for the recipe, this will be one I use weekly.
Jason Sanford says
I love your idea to add hemp!
Garrett says
Do you think you could put this in a waffle iron?
Jason Sanford says
Hmmm, we honestly haven’t tried it so can’t say for sure what might happen. It sounds like a fun experiment. Be sure to report back if you try!

Simply amazing. Quick, effortless, healthy, and satisfied all my cravings. Thank you for the recipe.
Quick tip: I used a coffee grinder to mx all ingredients together and ground oats.
Tim says
Im sure someone has already asked but What would you grease the grill pan with for the pancakes
Jason Sanford says
Oil or oil spray 🙂

Just made these this morning and they were amazing! Didn’t use any sweetener and had them with a mix of peanut butter and maple syrup combined and heated in microwave, and then later with frozen strawberries warmed up with some coconut sugar. MMMMM!!!!
Beccy says
What consistency should the batter be? Using the recipe measurements mine came out as a thick porridge!
Jason Sanford says
Pancake batter consistency – if too thick, just add more milk of choice!

Oats are not gluten free
Jason Sanford says
Actually, they are. For Celiacs, you can buy certified-gf oats, which mean they aren’t even processed on the same machinery as any wheat products. But oats, themselves, do not contain gluten.

made these this morning and they do work! the pancakes didn’t come out perfect but it’s nothing i can’t fix in the next few trials. i put a little more milk because the mixture was a little too viscous. i’m thinking to pre-pulverize the oats into a fine powder before mixing it with the rest of the ingredients next time.
my blob won’t flatten on its own so i had to flatten it out manually with my spatula. i’m not sure if it’s just me but my mixtures tended to break in half as i try to flip them. i’ll try smaller blobs next time. this would taste amazing with cocoa powder i can tell.
found this recipe simply because i ran out of flour. perhaps i’ll give eggs a go for better binding properties next time as well.
thank you so much!

So I’m not sure I’m interpreting the directions correctly. If I’m NOT using a blender or hand blender, I use oat flour and mash the banana and mix the batter together by hand…correct? But if I AM USING A BLENDER, I use WHOLE regular oats and mix everything together using the machine? Does the recipe still turn out okay if I opt to do everything by hand? Thanks.
Jason Sanford says
Yes and yes!
Andrea says
I had to add a LOT more milk. Delicious, though.
CS says
Wow! I made them wrong and still delish. I guess I was to hungry to read correctly so I doubled the oats and milk. I did toss 1/2 cup blueberries on them and I don’t think I will ever go back to store box pancakes.
Jessica says
I used 1/3 cup oat flour and mixed these up in my ninja blender. So easy to make and tasty!

I actually got around to making these this morning. Better late than never, right? lol! I’m having to follow a low sodium diet due to blood pressure issues, so I’ve been missing pancakes. It was awesome that I didn’t need to use any salt. I wasn’t sure what I’d think of these, but I really enjoyed them. They’re a different texture than standard pancakes, but still super delicious. My batch made about 4 1/2 smallish pancakes. I used about 1/4 cup of soymilk and added in some cinnamon and 1/2 t sugar, (which I probably didn’t even need). I used my Nutri-Bullet to blend the oats into flour first and then just added everything else and poured the pancakes straight from the container. I made a simple blueberry jam to top it. I microwaved about 1/2-3/4 cup of frozen blueberries, 1/2 t sugar, and 1 t chia seeds until bubbly. I topped everything off with a tablespoon of Cocowhip. I’m also looking forward to trying them with some pure maple syrup. Thanks for the awesome recipe. 🙂

Hi I have a question about the oat flour. The recipe calls for 1/2 cup rolled oats (or Katie says you can use the same amount of oat flour), 1 medium banana, and 3 1/2 tbsp milk of choice.
I have Bob’s Red Mill certified gluten-free corn flour (the corn flour is whole grain and stone ground, it’s definitely not masa and definitely not corn starch) that I need to use up.
I’ve been gluten-free for nearly a year but all the gf flours are still a mystery to me as, for starters, I know they absorb liquids different and have different protein contents.
Do you think I could substitute corn flour for the oat flour?
Thank you for any advice you can offer.
Chris says
I’d say give it a shot but add like a couple tbsps more liquid to the batter. In my experience using corn flour and corn meal, it can come out dry really easily.
Diane says
I made them and they were easy to make and tasted delicious. I did add a touch of vanilla and cinnamon and next time I’ll add more because I love cinnamon. Overall, this is a great recipe. I was eating them as soon as they were cooked and making up the next one. Thanks for this easy and healthy recipe.
Dee says
I placed my rolled oats in a food processor to make oat flour, used unsweetened vanilla almond milk and added pumpkin pie spice! I also used a very ripe banana. They were delicious! Can’t wait to make and eat them again!

Your version sounds fantastic!

Made these this morning and they were great! I doubled the recipe and used a blender, and it made about 3 full-size pancakes. I added a couple extra tablespoons of oat milk because the batter was a little thick. I’m surprised at how well they cooked and kept their shape. Will definitely be making these in the future, especially when I’m craving pancakes but and want to feel guilty afterwards 🙂

Perfect recipe for my toddler!

Great recipe. I followed it exactly, but made a few small changes. I used almond milk to make it vegan, and I halved the amount of oats, and replaced them with an equal amount of gram flour and wholemeal bread flour. I also substituted an egg for the banana. Turned out great, although I don’t like pancakes and didn’t try them myself.

These came out so yummy!!! I have tried to make this before and it was a fail, but not this time! The blender I think is what really helped.
Kelly says
They are delicious!! 😋
Mella says
these turned out amazing! way better than i expected. i blended the oats, banana, 3 tablespoons of almond milk, and about half a tablespoon of maple syrup to a liquid consistency, i didn’t have to double the recipe to blend it well but it did take a little more effort. i melted vegan butter in a pan and poured enough batter to make small pancakes. i ended up with 5 of them and they were so delicious! perfectly sweet and the butter gave them a little savory flavor which made them even better. they taste like they aren’t supposed to be healthy lol! i ate all 5 small pancakes and it completely filled me up. will definitely make again and i highly recommend to anyone looking for a quick and easy vegan healthy pancake recipe!

Hi, I look forward making the pancakes. Yet since you said to substitute a banana for sweet pototoe, could you had puree squash instead?
