The Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Latte

Cookie Dough Coffee Latte https://chocolatecoveredkatie.com/2013/01/21/the-chocolate-chip-cookie-dough-latte/

Liquid Cookie Dough.

Imagine this: It’s a cold winter’s morning, and you hurry into the local coffee shop for a steaming-hot latte to counter the chill. The barista behind the counter asks, “Would you like a plain latte? Or would you prefer a rich and creamy ‘dessert’ latte that tastes like a warm chocolate-chip cookie, straight out of the oven?”

Which would you choose?

coffee drink  For those times when regular coffee just won't cut it, treat yourself to the creamy deliciousness of a homemade chocolate chip cookie dough latte: https://chocolatecoveredkatie.com/2013/01/21/the-chocolate-chip-cookie-dough-latte/

Is that even a question?

Who wouldn’t choose the liquid cookie dough?

What are some good latte flavor ideas?

What about a Coconut Cream Pie Latte? Or a French Toast Latte? For my dream latte, I think I’ll have to be boring and say: Chocolate Brownie Latte. You just can’t ever go wrong with chocolate.

Cookie Dough Latte

(Serves 1-2)

  • 3/4 cup creamer (such as Silk) or canned coconut milk (180g)
  • 3/4 cup milk of choice, or 3/4 cup more creamer or coconut milk (180g)
  • 1 tbsp brown sugar or coconut brown sugar (8g)
  • stevia (or more brown sugar) to taste. Amount will depend on the sweetness of the milk you use.
  • 1/8 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp pure vanilla extract
  • Optional: 1/2 tsp instant coffee granules. It’s not technically a “latte” without coffee… but really, who cares?
  • Optional: mini chips, whipped topping, eggless cookie dough

Combine first six ingredients in a small pot or microwave-safe dish, stir, and heat until desired temperature is reached. Either use a coffee frother to make foam, or whisk the milk while it’s on the stove, then hold the foam back with a spoon as you pour the latte into a mug and add the foam at the very end. Garnish if desired, and enjoy!

lately i’ve been making warm milk at night because it’s FREEZING where i live. i just warm up some homemade almond milk and thrown in a little vanilla creme flavored stevia and cinnamon. so good! gonna have to try this one out tonight (minus the coffee that late at night…) 🙂

    • Katharina says

I was just about to write the same! That latte just means milk and the full name actually is latte macchiato 😉

  2. Kelley says

I don’t think the banana idea sounds weird! What about a Nutella latte? They have hazelnut lattes, and Nutella is just hazelnuts and chocolate.

  3. Ellie Rainey says

Your question of the day made me so enthusiastic about latte flavors that I came up with the list below 😀

    Vanilla lavender latte!
    peppermint latte!
    orange creamsicle latte!
snickerdoodle latte (the cookie dough latte but with cinnamon in it!)
    sticky toffee pudding latte!
    pomegranate green tea latte!
    pistachio latte!
lemon mousse latte (maybe put tofu in it?!)
    Chinese gunpowder tea latte!
    birthday cake latte!

okay, I’m going crazy here. You can tell that I’m a true coffee fanatic…

  4. Lisa says

Yum! I have a small obsession with lattes, so this will need to be made right away! I’ve been loving coconut milk. I love how creamy and delicious it makes everything!

  5. Rebecca says

    Hey Katie!

I just wanted to say how much I love and appreciate your blog! Everything (I mean EVERYTHING) I’ve made from here is always totally incredible and very well received! I recently met my older brother’s live-in girlfriend and she was very shy until we realized we both loved making your recipes! She opened up immediately, it was lovely. You bring families together!! Haha.

    Thanks again.

  6. Shay says

I’m not really into lattes, but this on looks too good to pass up!
Ooooh! How bout mint chocolate chip lattes? or maybe peanut butter? No, that one would probably be disgusting.
I love that mug you used!:)

  7. jodye @ chocolate and chou fleur says

Anybody who doesn’t choose liquid cookie dough is completely insane. It’s like those people who don’t like chocolate. How?! You are a genius, Katie. Your photos are beautiful, as well, and that mug is so pretty!

  8. Sam says

Just made this. It was so amazing. Please please put instant coffee in it! Makes a huge difference and reminds me of Starbucks

  9. April says

I can’t have coffee so I’m so glad it’s optional! I have a half can of coconut milk I need to use (that never happens to you, does it??) so this is perfect! Thanks once again Katie! 🙂

  10. Cassidy says

    Katie… :O
My jaw dropped, such was my pleasant surprise. THANK YOU. SO MUCH. <3 I'm having this tomorrow morning, and I'm so excited to try it that I'm gonna make my cup tonight to heat in the morning…and maybe sneak a sip or two before popping it in the fridge. ;D

  11. CC says

I just stumbled upon your website somehow, one vegan blog leads 2 another, leads 2 another & well here I am! I am amazed I didn’t find it before. Now I know where 2 get my food porn….wow, VEGAN, LOW FAT & delicious looking! I can’t wait 2 try some of your recipes, this one namely & I can’t wait 2 make the Coconut Butter. Oh, lest we forget the fudge one, that will b my first attempt!

Thanks 4 the service u’re providing… letting people figure out being vegan is not only healthy but JUST AS if not MORE tasty than not!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Blessings!
    CC

  12. Jessica says

This recipe looks amazing, but forget that. I want to steal that mug, it’s so cute and I need it in my life. Where did you get it?

  13. Andrea says

Katie, you are a girl after my own heart! I think I will be making this tonight, provided I have time. I am currently making eggplant parm for dinner. After, I’m going for a run and then it will be time for this lovely creation! I kind of want to drink my computer screen, not gonna lie. 🙂

    • Andrea says

You can use whatever kind of milk you want. Honestly, even the creamer isn’t necessary if you want to make it totally non-fat. It’s just to add richness.

  14. Paul says

The snow fell on Alabama last Thursday. I drank hot chocolate. I’ll have to try a Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Latte when the next wintry storm passes through!

  15. Amanda says

I just made this and I was kind of disappointed.. I made it exactly according to the recipe, used full-fat coconut milk and Silk vanilla soymilk. It didn’t really taste like cookie dough, just tasted like sweet milk… 🙁

    • Erika says

How about adding a little vegan butter to it (or regular butter/butter flavoring if you’re not vegan)? Also adding some chocolate chips in there couldn’t hurt. 🙂 Sounds weird, I know, but it’s pretty much the only thing missing from the recipe.

    • Nicole says

It’s a latte with the flavor of cookie dough, not the texture. Looking at the ingredients, you should have been able to see that. It’s a latte, not cookie dough. If you wanted cookie dough, why not just make cookie dough? Or go ahead and add in some cookie dough pieces like the recipe suggests?

      • Annie says

Why so accusing, Nicole? She merely follwed the recipe and wasn’t satified with the flavour. Erikas ideas sound fantastic, I guess it woudn’t hurt if you just experimented a bit and tried out a bunch of varieties 😉 hehe.

    • CC says

Annie, well said. Amanda, thank u 4 lending your thoughts & u r very right… the title is Chocolate chip Cookie dough latte…. As a reader deciding on what 2 make next…it helps me 2 know u didn’t find it tasted like cookie dough. So one has every right 2 expect that the taste would b like that of cookie dough. Please do keep posting your opinions, it helps!

  16. Erika says

Firstly, Katie, I absolutely LOVE your website! You’re so inventive. And when I found it, I never had ANY plans to become a vegan. Now, however, I’m in the process of “cleaning house,” to get rid of my non-vegan foods so I can start fresh with all the healthy stuff.

Anyway, the biggest reason I know I can go vegan without worries (also with my husband and 2 year old daughter) is partly (largely) due to you. My whole omni family loves your chocolate chip cookie pie and your chocolate fudge pie — they’re INCREDIBLE. As long as you and your talented network of blogger friends continue to post this stuff, I won’t miss meat, cheese or decadent desserts at all. THANK YOU. 🙂

  17. Nicole says

I made one this morning, and it was one of the best lattes I’ve ever had :). That’s probably because of my love for cookie dough, which rivals yours, Katie! I own an actual latte machine which I don’t use nearly enough, so I pulled that out for the occasion. It made the latte extra foamy and wonderful.

  18. Olivia @ OmNom Love says

I shall be trying this today! It’s hard for me to resist cookie dough in any form! 😉

My dream latte flavor is red velvet. With a dairy-free cream cheese- like whipped cream. Yum, that sounds so good. 😉

  19. laura says

I love black Tea Lattes. I used to add vanilla sugar, but I ran out and started using vanilla extract, WOW so yummy. just a drop or 2, does the trick. Chocolate chips??? Wow great idea.
    laura

  20. Melissa says

Not sure how this is supposed to taste like cookie dough…it seems like a regular latte to me. Should there be other flavourings added, like cocoa maybe? But then that would be a hot chocolate!!! *sigh*
    P.s. i love that mug!

  21. Lisa says

I like to use my VitaMix to make hot chocolate and non-coffee lattes ( Pero and Teeccino are amazing non-caffinated options.) I just warm up the milk or water seperately, and mix all the other ingredients in the VitaMix and then blend. The drink ends up being really well blended, and it creates a lot of foam. So you don’t have to have a specialty appliance to get the Starbuck’s effect! All my kids’ friends think I make THE BEST hot cocoa, so it must be working 😉

  22. Charlie says

I was an avid reader, and made a couple of your recipes with some success, so I hope you’ll just take this comment as general feedback. I would read more and become more interested if you branched out a bit and tried something other than the familiar combinations. Perhaps some more creative recipes? Different cultural influences? For example – healthy mole sauce, the trendy chocolate chili combination, chocolate covered speculoos cookies? Etc. Maybe you have done some of these, but the overall point is that for me your blog is lacking in some spice, cultural experience, adventure, passion etc. that I seek to gain some inspiration for my kitchen. Thanks for the recipes to date!

    • Chocolate-Covered Katie says

Thanks for the feedback. I have some multicultural recipes going in the cookbook as well as many on my to-try list. I try to keep some of the recipes basic to appeal to a broader audience, and then THEY can change the recipes up (such as changing a basic chocolate cupcake into a Mexican chocolate one, etc.).

  23. Julie says

We tried this this afternoon – just what we needed to warm up! It tastes awesome! We were all sort of craving a milkshake, but it’s far too cold, and this was perfect! I added a bit of cinnamon instead of the coffee for the kids. Thanks for the recipe!

  24. Amy McCann says

In an attempt to keep my weight down I have cut most latte’s out. SO SAD! But if I splurge it’s coconut, gingerbread, cinnamon and pumpkin. My question is:
Can we determine peoples personalities by their coffee/latte preference? My hubs is a coffee with my coffee kinda guy, but he does like pumpkin and mocha. I’m always interested in the “why” of people. Just wondering if anyone has taken the time to determine that!

  25. Hannah Harper says

Oh, my goodness! This sounds perfect on those days where you need something to convince you to get out of bed! Or when you need something on your desk while you write! Or when you want something to drink and eat while you read and AWESOME book, but you don’t have time to make cookies! Or really anytime, I presume.
I think that a S’More latte would be heaven, or a treacle latte… but that would be more a gingerbread latte… How about a green tea latte? Or a fruit latte?

  26. Kacey says

I have to admit, I was totally skeptical that this would taste like cookie dough…but it totally does! I just made myself a cup, and oh my god, so delicious. I was all out of soy creamer and coconut milk, so I just used all soy milk and it was still really good. I can’t wait to try it again after I go grocery shopping though!

  27. Whitney Haddow says

I made this today (non-coffee version), but I wanted it to be sugar free so I just used stevia and added 1/4 tsp molasses (1/8 tsp per serving) to get the caramely flavor you get from brown sugar. Let me tell you – this recipe did NOT disappoint. 🙂

    • Vienna says

Thank you for the variation, Whitney, for using all stevia. Tried it this morning and was VERY happy with it!

  28. Jackie says

My Flavor ideas: Oreo cookie or Cookies and Cream Lattee, I love the S’mores idea and maybe Toffee, Praline or Buttered Pecan?

  29. Bridgit says

THANK YOU! I just finished drinking this. I was looking for a night time snack. Something sweet and this was perfect! Totally warmed me up (live in PA suburbs where it is currently in the – wind chill). I loved ever sip! And plan on making it this with hot coco (instead of coffee) for my little girls! You are amazing thank you!

  30. Alice says

I’m confused. Why would you call something a latte if it only has a smidgen of coffee granules in it? Am I missing something? Does adding more coffee throw off the flavor profile? Help!

  31. Jessy says

    Hey Katie!

First of all i Love you entire range of receiptes !! Im from germay and sometimes its not so easy to find all required ingredients but at last it works and i just love it ! I will try to eat one week only your receiptes ! Will it work? 😀 Im interested how i will feel, get my skin better? my hair shinier? by the way im vegetarian, but vegan is even better !

Hope to hear from you soon!

P.S. I registered with my mail address but i never get updates if you put something new on your website 🙁 – why?

  32. Amber @ Slim Pickin's Kitchen says

Yum! This looks so delicious! I didn’t even notice the mug though b/c I was too busy drooling over the latte! I had to go back and check it out b/c of all the comments 🙂

  33. Amy says

At first I was a little leary of trying this because of calorie content, but I used 3/4 C skim milk and 3/4 C lite canned coconut milk. Oh my, it was delicious and the perfect thing to have on an ice-y morning! I also included 1 tsp of instant coffee (because I’m a caffeine addict)

  34. Sarah says

Not to be rude, but that would be more correctly called a “Chocolate Cookie Dough Flavored Milk” Rather then a Latte. Latte has not coffee, but espresso in it. 🙂 I wouldn’t say it was tasted like chocolate cookie dough given that i tried it. While tasty, it tastes more like sweetened chocolaty milk. If your looking for a chocolate cookie dough feel, TORANI offers a great syrup for it while i am not sure if it is vegan or not. Hope this doesn’t come off rude, you are a great cook for sure. 🙂

  35. Casey says

Wow sounds so amazing! For my dream latte I would probably have to say eggnog! Just a quick question what milk frother do you use? I am thinking of purchasing one but I just do not really know which one to choose!

  36. Anonymous says

Not to be super technical, but latte means with milk so it is technically a latte regardless of coffee or not because there’s steamed milk. As a barista, I just thought I’d throw some learning your way

  37. Shelby says

Just made this latte, and added Dunkin’ Donuts French Vanilla coffee, and it’s so amazing!! I actually mixed hazelnut creamer, french vanilla creamer, and heavy cream to my mixture (it’s all I had) and it turned out so yummy! Thank you for making such a simple, easy latte recipe and making my home brewed coffee way more enjoyable!

  38. Elizabeth Monette-Rojas says

Good Morning, and thank you for yet, another delicious looking page full of recipes today. Scrumptious, I am sure. Where on earth did you find that adorable white mug?
I just love mugs and whenever I see one that is different, I try to find out where to purchase them. Cannot wait to taste your latte recipe this am…As always, thanks for such an awesome, positive, and informative site/blog. Keep up the great work!

  39. Vienna says

This was an extremely rich beverage! I can’t say it tasted like cookie dough…or maybe I just don’t ‘get’ the flavour profile? It was good. I added 1/4 tsp of blackstrap molasses to see if it add more of a brown sugar flavour. It tasted great and not like molasses. I like another commenter’s suggestion of using molasses and stevia and no other sugars. And for me, the coffee part is not optional. 🙂

  40. Sonya says

Ohhhh yummy. We ran out of mugs so I used a cookie dough tub that we had in the cupboard. My son laughed and it got us searching for coffee flavours… We must try this recipe 🙂

  41. Michelle says

So I woke up this morning, and it was -6*F outside. BRRRR! It totally made me want a yummy hot coffee drink to warm up with. I immediately thought of you and your site, as it is my go-to site for sweet things, as well as other foods. I found this recipe! I just made this using Almond Breeze Coconut Almond blend milk, with creamer, and I used chocolate syrup to drizzle on the top, and it is SO delicious! Perfect way to warm up on such a cold day! Love your site… I have been making your recipes at home for years now!

  42. Melissa C. says

Thank you for your blog! I’ve made so many great tasting things from your site 🙂 Also, I love that your recipes are healthy, have great pictures, cute quips that aren’t too lengthy, and I don’t have to read or scroll through and entire diary of your day just to get to the goods. Your blog is very effective and I can’t wait to buy your cookbook! <3 Best of luck to you!

  43. Ksenija says

Oh…my…goodness… This tastes absolutely ridiculous in the best possible way! I made mine with 3/4 cup coconut milk and 3/4 cup almond milk and it was so rich, I almost couldn’t drink it (almost!). The salt sounds weird but I actually think it’s what makes this taste like cake as opposed to just a latte. Oh and I added a full teaspoon of coffee since I needed the caffeine! Thank you for a great recipe once again, Katie 🙂

  44. Leslie Diffin says

Definitely making this for my daughter-in-law.. Will do for me too, but with dairy. Only coconut ‘milk’ I can tolerate comes from the can.. Although after tasting the almond, soy, coconut extracted beverages..I’m okay with this, lol. I have a #celiac depleted thyroid so not allowed any almond or soy anything, anyway.. I can absolutely smell this latte through the monitor! Thanks so much for the yumminess..

  45. Lizzy says

This latte looks delicious, and I really want to make it, but I have no creamer or coconut milk. Is there anything else I could use that wouldn’t taste disgusting?

  46. Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Latte - Get Healthy U says
