You say goodbye, and I say hello…
Note to readers: I am not above giving shout outs in return for chocolate. But just to let y’all know: I don’t sing Larabar’s praises because they sometimes send me surprise packages out of the blue. I’d sing their praises anyway, as I truly love the Jocalats.
This time, the reason they sent me bars was to thank me for being a huge fan and to let me know that they’re retiring the chocolate-cherry flavor. (At first I panicked, thinking they were retiring all Jocalats. But luckily that’s not the case.)
Erica and the amazingly-generous Larabar company want to surprise five of you, too. Read below for details:
EDIT: This giveaway is now over.
Annette says
I really need to get around to making some of the Fudge Babies – any recipe – they all look great! And I need to cut down on my sugar intake 🙂
I would like to try one of the Larabars because they do not have them at the regular grocery store I go to and I’ve never tried one. 🙁
Miriam says
Hmm, never tried a Jocalat! I usually buy cliff bars or luna bars, but have gotten really bored with them lately, would love to try these.
Also, I made your mushroom stroganoff the other night and it turned out sooo great… will definitely be making it again and again. It made me want to try more of your recipes!
Michele says
My favorite was by far the German Chocolate Cake, also retired. Sigh. Every time I fall in love with something, they take it away!! Ditto for Victoria’s Secret and the constantly changing sports bras they offer. I really need to learn to just buy 50 when I find one I like 🙂
Abi says
Sugar-Free Chocolate Fudge! That looks amazing!

You scared me though, I thought ALL Larabars were saying goodbye at first and I was going to be very sad. 😛
Chocolate-Covered Katie says
That’s what I thought at first too! I had to re-read their card three times!
Beth says
I once made your Mexican wedding cookies (https://chocolatecoveredkatie.com/2008/12/29/christmas-cookies-for-the-homeless-and-a-visit-from-the-ghost-of-christmas-future/) and they were *spectacular*. I also once made a chocolate chip cookie dough version of your fudge version. Incredible. Just talking about those makes me really hungry…I could use a box of Jocalat bars right about now.

I love Larabars though I will have to say that before I found your site I had never heard of Jocalat. My favorites are Key Lime Pie and Coconut Creme Pie. I’ve loved all of your recipes that I’ve tried so far: Peanut butter babies, raw cheesecake, homemade Cocoabliss (I love Artisana coconut butter) and fudge babies. I really enjoy your blog.
kayleigh says
i would love to try your vegan cheesecake recipe, i just never have all of the ingredients!! and i have never had a jocalat, but they sound amazing(:
Juliet says
I’ve never tried any of the Jocolats… but I like the cherry pie Larabars a lot. I usually bring a few with me when I’m going on vacation and don’t know what the vegetarian offerings will look like…
I’ve been meaning to try your chilly-day chili recipe. Unfortunately, it is still winter where I am…
Dianne says
Ooh free larabars! About your recipes, I was actually drooling over the ‘fudge’ yesterday. My only conundrum is which variation to make first! I’m thinking chocolate peanut butter, of course.
Sarah says
I love me some jocalat! The recipe I want to try of yours is your Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Dip. Anything that includes the words chocolate, cookie, dough, oh and dip will make me salivate on command.
Taryn says
I am dying to try your milkshakes and smoothies you have been talking about recently- and I must admit yesterday I made some vegan fudge for the first time- divine!
Ashley (The Vegetable Life) says
I LOVE LOVE LOVE Larabars but I have never tried Jocolat…. I think I am going to have to change that soon! I cant wait to make the cookie dough dip when I have friends over this weekend… I am a big fan of dessert appetizers before a meal!
Stacey (The Home-Cooked Vegan) says
This is an easy one! The recipe that has been in the back of my mind since seeing it on your blog are your Red Velvet Pancakes. Seriously, I dream of them. I wake up thinking of them. Thinking of how breakfast as a vegan SHOULD be. Can’t wait to get home and try them!
Emily says
*takes final bite of peanut butter banana pizzert*
I have already made a ton of your delicious recipes (My fridge is currently stocked with fudge babies, peanut butter frosting and leftover mushroom storganoff.), but there are still so many more I want to try! Last night I bought the ingredients for an “Almond Joy” version of your milkshake: coconut butter, cocoa powder and almond milk. I cannot wait to make it!!!
Oh, and I never had jocolat, only regular larabar, so I would LOVE to win this!
Chocolate-Covered Katie says

Ari @ ThE DiVa DiSh says
Even though you havent posted it yet…I want to try that cake batter milk shake you were talking about! 🙂
Jenny says
I’ve never gotten the chance to try a Jocalat bar… They only have Larabars where I am – but I do LOVE those! I like heating up the apple-pie Larabars and eating them with your cookie dough (the ‘healthy chocolate chip cookie dough’ sans the chocolate chips tastes like vanilla ice cream, to me!). 🙂
A recipe I need to try? Well… I need to try out your “blended grains” trick so I can eat delicious things like blueberry muffin bulgur pudding and banana bread in a bowl!
Meg says
I’ve been drooling over the coconut fudge since you posted the recipe, but haven’t had the time to make it yet.
I love the chocolate cherry Larabars, but they’ve been difficult to find. Sad they’ll be gone for good.

OMG-Jocalat’s are my absolute favorite Lara bar….the chocolate coffee flavor is the best!!
Mali K (The Mali K Whey) says
There are few things I wouldn’t do for free chocolate!
The recipe of yours that I would most like to try is the fudge babies – I have even bought some dates in preparation! Just need to fix my blender, and then I’m good to go…
Others on the list are the raw fudge (every flavour!) and the raw cheesecake.
I think you put the box on your head because there is no place in this world where chocolate doesn’t belong!
Chocolate-Covered Katie says
hahaha well, maybe the garbage can? 😉
Mali K (The Mali K Whey) says
Yes, that would definitely be an exception to the rule!
lian says

Pamela Wobig says
Never tried a Jocalat…would love to do the microwave trick with it!
Sukee says
I’ve tried most of the Lara Bars (love ’em) but haven’t found any Jocalot bars yet. They sound divine!
I’m a fairly new reader and so glad I’ve found your recipes. Seriously delicious stuff here. I think my favorite has got to be the sugar-free fudge. I do a variation where I take freeze-dried fruit (Trader Joe’s has freeze-dried strawberries, blueberries and bananas, or I’ve heard Target carries some fruits, or any camping supply store) and then crush the fruity bits with a mortar and pestle (or your crushing device of choice… hammer? rolling pin?) into a powder and then add to your basic CCK sugar-free fudge recipe. I add about two tablespoons, but like you I don’t have a big sweet tooth, so some might like to up the quantity. Total yum! My favorite variation is banana-strawberry.
Thanks for the great recipe ideas. You rock!
HVL says
Damnit, I want to enter! Boo-hiss to US-only giveaways! 😛 hehe.
Oh, I really want to try a Jocalat. I’ve only tried a few Larabar flavours. The UK needs to hurry up and get on the bandwagon with the Larabar love! (And the Daiya love, and the Teese love, and the Dandies love, etc etc… you get the picture!)
Chocolate-Covered Katie says
If you know anyone in the US, you could always have it shipped to them.
Lisa says
ahhh im SO entering! I dont think I ever tried that flavor. but how could chocolate & cherries NOT be good?!!
stampylisa says
I want to try a single cupcake! I also really like the chocolate chip Larabars, they are delish. I have not tried them yet and am sad they are leaving!

Absolutely love Larabars! I’m a college swimmer and have to rely on quick and healthy snacks throughout the day, and its nice to be able to pronounce every ingredient in my bar. I love the Lemon bar and Apple Pie flavors, but can’t wait to try the Blueberry Muffin (I have yet to spot it on shelves where I shop)
I’d love to make your Hot Cocoa Fudge Babies as soon as I find the time in my schedule!

I’ve actually never tried making a pizzert and I want to give it a try this weekend. I tend to make smoothies during the week because it’s easier to take to work, but this cold weather calls for a yummy pizzerty type breakfast!!

Lindsay says
I am dying to try a pizzert– I need to try the chocolate cherry Jocalat, too! I love the combination of chocolate and fruit, that way you don’t need to decide between a chocolate-y treat or a fruity treat! Why are they retiring the chocolate cherry flavor? 🙁
Sue P says
Yum! My kids and I love all the larabars. Our current favorite is the lemon but we can never turn down chocolate here either. I keep meaning to make up a batch of your coconut melties as a good for your treat around here too. All your recipes look wonderful but I also want to get around to your oatmeal ideas, especially the raspberry chocolate truffle. Oh, and your recent post on pizzert looks intriguing too!

Tori says
I’ve booked marked so many of your recipes you don’t even know!! I want to try the pizzert real bad though! I’ve never tried the Jocolat bars, so if I win and end up liking them, they’ll definetly have a rise in sales because I tend to obsess over bars sometimes! 🙂
Laura says

Meghan says

I make all sorts of fudge baby variations for myself all the time, and I’ve created a few “fruit baby” variations of my own. Thanks so much for turning me on to this idea–and I love the soy-free vegan recipes! I’m not a vegan (but my stomach is happier with a heavily vegan diet) but I’m also fairly soy-sensitive. Your stuff is great! 🙂

Hey girly! I haven’t commented (or even blogged…) in a while, because school has been absorbing my life! So, I just thought I’d let you know that I’m still a devoted reader and fan of all of your posts and amazing recipes! I think that the reason you put those bars on your head was because you were so super excited to get them, you just wanted to lift them up and thanking God for them! 😉 Hahahahha. I don’t know! It’s definitely a new form of flattery, but you also might want to make a fashion statement by wearing them as a hat! 😉 It could work!
Much love, chica!!! 😀

I’ve been meaning to comment and tell you this anyway, so why not try to win some yum-yums in the process?
I sneakily woke up early the other morning to make red velvet pancakes (minus the red) for my man. Unfortunately, it was an utter failure! I’m blaming the pan — I couldn’t get anything resembling a pancake to come out of it, and there was terrible smoke all through the house (so my man woke up to smoke instead of pancakes…sigh). After the first couple didn’t work, I decided to put them in a muffin pan and we had red velvet (minus the red) muffins for breakfast instead. Still super yummy! A little dense and they didn’t rise much, but it made me not feel bad about bombing with the pancakes.
Abbey says
Banana ice cream! And I love larabars!
Jen says
I love Larabar’s Jocalat bars because they’re perfect as healthy desserts or fun mid-day snacks. And it’s a cute photo — I probably would’ve put the box on my head, too. 🙂

Mmm, I’ve always wanted to try Jocalats! Because A. Chocolate is the bomb-diggity, and B. because the name is just so darn cute. 🙂 Your breakfast pizzerts have captured my heart and make frequent appearances on my breakfast (okay, lunch and dinner and dessert too 😉 ) table.
Heather R says
I really want to try any of your raw desserts or some of your banana nut butter. Hello, bananas, nut butter, must be love! P.S. I’m pretty there are some serious grammatical grievances in the following paragraph.
Heather @ kissmybroccoli says
Gosh girl! What recipe don’t I want to try?! You cease to amaze me with your fabulous creations! I can’t wait to try your stroganoff!
I just picked up a couple of Jocalats the other day…my fave, chocolate cherry, and a new-to-me one, the chocolate coffee! I love coffee, I love chocolate! Seemed like a winner to me! I can’t wait to try it!

Katie, I recently started following your blog, and I love checking it everyday! Oatmeal, peanut butter, and chocolate are some of my favs, and I love how often they’re featured on your site! I pretty much want to try all of your oatmeal recipes… many I have done before, but not all of them. I need to try coconut butter! I feel like it’s going to start an expensive addiction.
I’ve never had the chocolate cherry larabars, and now I really want to try them!
Shea says
Oops… I forgot to leave my information!
Lyza M. says
Oh my goodness…this giveaway is a dream!!! I love jocolat bars…I can’t believe they are getting rid of that flavor!! 🙁
LOL, my question is, why NOT put a box on your head?! I think if the world questioned things that were, “different,” from ordinary all the time, we would live in SUCH a boring world. It’s fun and exciting to try new things!! 🙂 And because you are Chocolate Covered Katie, it makes perfect sense that it would be on your head 😀 You’re always trying new things, AND NOW–you are covered in chocolate!! 🙂
Chocolate-Covered Katie says
hehe exactly. Covered in chocolate is the way to be! 😉
Lyza M. says
I couldn’t agree more! 🙂
alex says
Hi I am planning on making your Healthy Chocolate Cake this weekend!
Rebecca says
I’ve always wanted to try some of your single-lady goods! 🙂 but I am too lazy.. hahah. I’ll try to make them soon! Larabars are amazing and nutritiously packed! Hope I finally get to try a jocolat bar!
Felicia says
I’ve never had a jocalat bar or a larabar before! :O Also, I’m going to try your three ingredient peanut balls this weekend since i have all three ingredients on hand!
elaine says
omigosh I do NOT know how I missed your microwave brownie trick. I just read the post and now I have “buy Jocalat bar” written on my hand as a reminder to do it first thing tomorrow morning. can not wait to try it! my absolute favorite Jocalat bar is the chocolate mint. SO DELISH! i am not ashamed to admit i have eaten 3 in a row. they are that good!
kathryn says
I really want to make your vegan yogurt – in fact I just bought a package of silken tofu… Now I just need to get some fruit, since all of my strawberries mysteriously went missing 😐
I’ve tried a larabar only once, and very recently. It was a coconut chocolate one and was so intensely fabulous that I’m dreaming of it just sitting here…
Aja says
I have never tried one of those. I just to have Luna Bars all the time, but got very bored of them. Those look delicious.
I would love to try any one of your fudge baby recipes. I have been meaning to make a treat for my boyfriend, and I think I’ve found just the thing.
Also, I like putting things on my head for pictures. It just looks more interesting on top of your head than in your hands in front of you. It makes people go, “why is that on her head? Oh, what is that? That looks interesting.”
Breaking Free says
My favorite Jocalat is the Chocolate Mint version. I remember when I first bit into it my mouth was like, whaaaatttt??? what is this deliciousness?? This is so good and it tastes like a brownie and it can’t be good for me I should stop eating it!!”
But the ooey gooey chocolatey goodness overtook my tastebuds and I kept eating, savoring every bite. It is my favorite! I still can’t believe that it is good for me and has no artificial ingredients!
Maxene says
mmm chocolate everything. As a college student I can’t afford them much, but I love the plan jocalat and hazelnut.
Kelsey says
I would LOVE to try your fudge babies. You are too cute! 🙂
And I’ve never tried a jocalat larabar; they look delish! Great giveaway.
BroccoliHut says
Your mint shake idea is so on my list of things to make next week (spring break). Speaking of which, I kind of love the mint chocolate Jocolat flavor:)
Cecilia says
You know I love your recipes Katie! I need to make myself some of those all those fudge babies, cookie dough balls, banana butter, etc but I’m just so darn busy. Gosh, I never tried Jocalat Chocolate Cherry so I would love to try those, what other Jocalat flavors do you recommend?
Cecilia says
btw, I just saw that this is open to only US resident 🙁 Next time then! 😀
Chocolate-Covered Katie says
Actually, the only one I really like is the plain chocolate. If you can find those, they’re the BEST! Also, just in case: if you have any family in the US, Larabar could always ship to them.
Veronica says
I have never tried these and would love to give them a go!
Ryan @ Aloha Appetite says
I probably should stop oogling your vegan fudge and make some of my own. 😉

shannonmarie says
Why are they retiring those bars? They’re so good. One of my faves 🙂
I know why the box is on your head. It is because you are a lady. It’s like when ladies would balance books on their heads in charm school to improve their postures. Or, maybe it’s just a yummy fashion statement. You’re a la mode, so bring on the vegan ice cream on top of that brownie 🙂
Chocolate-Covered Katie says
A la mode! Haha I love your creativity!
If I were in charm school, the poor box would probably fall from my head though… I never could keep a book on my head and balance! lol
shannonmarie says
I can’t keep a book on my head either. It’s nice to know I’m in good company 🙂
Lauren says

I absolutely love larabars! In fact they got me interested in creating my own raw food delights! Which drew me also to your website, because I really wanted to make raw gingerbread and looked online for a recipe and found your site!
My favorite thing about them is reading the package and being able to understand every ingredient! I don’t know if I can pick a favorite bar, because they are all so yummy!!!!
Lauren says

i need to invest in a food processor!
i love jocalate,

Chocolate-Covered Katie says

nicole says
I haven’t had time to try the Single Lady Banana Bread, but I plan on doing so soon! I did try making the coconut butter but I don’t think I used the right coconut or something, because what I made CAN’T be the same thing all the bloggers rave about! LOL
Hannah says
Oh, we LOVE larabars! They’re a bit pricey, though, so I usually just stick to making fudge babies! 🙂
Emma says
As a fan of all things chocolate, it is such a shame you can’t buy Jocalats here in UK so I have never tried one : (
I am planning to make your high protein chocolate cake very soon, a supermarket over here has just started selling tinned pumpkin (before could buy from hardly anywhere in UK) so I am now sorted as I always have some soy chocolate protein powder in anyway! Can’t wait to try it!
x
Jae says

Aly says
Hi Katie!
I would like to try some of your Peanut Butter/Chocolate Babies next. You know how I feel about peanut-butter dipped flip flops, so naturally peanut butter and chocolate would make beautiful babies!
Also, in another post somewhere out there, you had asked about recipes we might like to see healthified (did I make that word up?). I have this fabulous Peanut Butter (obviously) Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookie recipe that I would love to transform into something vegan and healthy. I used to make them all the time, but not in the past year since my change to a vegan diet. I’m not a fan of super processed anything (flours, sugars etc.) and I’m usually happy with banana-sweetend baked goods and unsweetend chocolate. I don’t have much experience in veganizing a baked recipe though – Help?!
Crossing my fingers for those Jocalats and still hoping to see Blueberry Muffin Larabars somewhere in New York soon!! Come on Lara, it’s New York! lol, have a great day 🙂
Chocolate-Covered Katie says
Hey Aly! Wow, your cookie sounds perfect! I mean, chocolate? Check. Pb? Check. Oatmeal? Check! What else could you ask for? 😉 I guess, when transforming it, I’d first try to veganize it. I’m a fan of ener-g egg replacer, so I’d try that in place of the eggs. For flour, I am in love with spelt flour. It seems to have a lighter taste than whole wheat, but you could also use ww pastry. And I wouldn’t try making it fat free, because some fat is good, and also because fat free cookies just taste like muffin tops! (That can be yummy, but it’s not a cookie!) So I’d probably look into Earth Balance or something. And hey, if your first attempts don’t come out ok, you can always eat your not-perfect experiments! 😉
Keep me updated on how it goes!
Aly says
Actually, I’m a big fan of spelt flour too. I have a great recipe for Date Bars (sugar-free)where I swapped in spelt flour and they came out better than the original I think. I’ve played with Ener-G before, but not too much. And I’m definitely an Earth Balance fan. And of course, a PB enthusiast – no skimping there!
Once I get it right, I’ll send the recipe your way. Thanks!
Aly says
Any suggestions for the 2 giant cups of sugar in this recipe?! It calls for one cup of white sugar and one cup of brown sugar. I’m sure I could cut it way down and still be more than happy with the flavor, but I’d still like to stay away from anything refined like white sugar. In the recipe’s defense, it does yield A LOT of cookies lol!
Jen says
I LOVE Larabars…but have never tried the Jocolate ones.
I just wrote down your Peanut Butter Babies recipe and I WILL be making them this weekend.

Well, I really want to try those Raw Thin Mint Brownies because I think they look and sound great 🙂 I always loved chocolate and mint together and this looks perfect. Aw, this is sad news; Larabar keeps breakin’ hearts with all the retired flavors (Pistachio, Cocoa Mole)… but I’m still looking out for the new Blueberry! Though, I do wish their regular line — not just Jocolat — was organic. 🙂 Anyway, I’d love to try your new chocolate cake (banana or raspberry) recipes. They look fantastic. I made a Mexican mole based off the recipe in veganomicon and put it over some beans inside an acorn squash. It was so delicious I’ve been on the hunt for new ways to sneak chocolate out of my dessert and into my dinner (ok…not out of my dessert…but definitely into my dinner as well)
